Thank you! I had a reoccurrence of cancer in 2016. It was in 5 spots in my bones. I went WFPB in July 2016. In January 2018 I received a clear pet scan. I have more energy and feel better at 50 than when I was in college! Plant strong is amazing, healing, motivating, and I will live on! As a teacher I would love to do in a school what Rip did in the firehouse. Great job guys!!
Stories like yours and these guys are reinforcement, for why we are doing this. I've had 2 bouts of melanoma. Both times because I was stressed and eating junk. Now I feel so confident, I have a " bring it on," attitude.
I love Rip’s comment to his young children that “in this house we eat strong foods”. I’m a 64 year old woman who is now ALL IN on this lifestyle. I can talk you guys enough for sharing this invaluable information.
You guys talked about people trying WFPB for a while, then quitting and going back to old habits. I’ve done that about 3 times. It’s crazy I know. I’ve found that hearing stories of people who made it, watching the Plant Based documentaries- more than once- all helps. We need to have the health benefits reenforced in our minds to hear the facts more than once. The whole world has told us how to eat poorly our entire lives! We need to push back by hearing the GOOD STUFF over and over. I’m not a ‘success story’ yet, but I’m learning what helps me. Listening to this interview more than once also helps. Thanks to both of you guys!
So. I'm into this way of eating for 2 weeks now. I was experiencing some angina symptoms prior to this and doc wanted me on statins. I asked for a diet option as first line of defense, and he said we'd re-assess at my next appointment in June and see if this has helped. So, for the last 3 days I've already noticed that the angina "pings" have disappeared. I wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't going through it myself. Oh - and I'm down almost 7 pounds already. Eating like a fiend, never getting "ravenously hungry" or "hangry". Previously a dedicated carnivore and thought I'd give this a shot since Atkins/LCHF plans drove my bloodwork into disaster territory (even though I DID lose weight easily on that way of eating). But, based on what I'm experiencing, I may need to re-assess doing this long term!
Love this! Especially the keto talk. So many of my clients as a personal trainer ask me about paleo and keto and .I say you need carbs, you need fiber, you don't need oil or meat....and they are just SO afraid of fruit it is so sad, it is hard educating them when so many trainers before me have engrained in their heads how bad those foods are even though plants are so health promoting. I just have to live by example, show them my oatmeal for breakfast every morning and my piece of fruit, and show them how good I feel and look.
WAY OF KAY - oh yeah this was great! What keto people don’t understand is, even though humans are not herbivores, or have GI systems like gorillas or ruminants, we can regurgitate our green and re-chew them to get the most out of the precious nutrients. We CAN make up for our shorter GI systems. We CAN overcome nature! Never eat another animal based product ever again!!!! Yay!!
Hey Rich! I just watched this podcast and was NOT disappointed! I've heard of you a bit in vegan circles, but I hadn't taken the time to check you out. I have to say that I'm so impressed! You seem so humble and down-to-earth. Rip seems the same way. Y'all are such a breath of fresh air. I'm trying to get into a plant based lifestyle, but it's incredibly hard when you have a husband that has watched and read all the same literature as you, and refuses to go plant based because he loves meat so much. I have 2 girls though that I'm working on to eat healthier and eat more plant based. I have my work cut out for me, but listening to this gave me the motivation I need to keep pushing forward.
hear you keep going with YOUR diet....and trying to help your girls....bc your husband would be watching..watching and you know, even if he went WFPB like you, he STILL mightnt be doing it exactly like you want 🙄...so may as well keep doing what youre doing for you and your girls...and see what happens you could also buy a packet of those fantastic vegan beef burgers out now....give him one...without telling him 😉 (if you think he'd be ok with that) and prepare it like any other burger he likes.....that may be a better approach with him....heaven knows theyre not healthy....full of fats etc...but its not animal foods and that might help him to see the move could be easier than he thinks
Humm... 🤔I hear you too! 👊 I typically cook 2 different meals in my house. One is a Pescatarian based meal for my man and my meal is a vegan version of his meal. Sometimes, I end up making 3 different meals when his mom who is a hardcore meat eater comes to visit. 🤩😅
I'm also plant based and my husband won't give up his meat either so I just cook delicious food and he eats a lot healthier and he adds his own meat to what I make. He is definitely eating less meat too now. Hang in there!

I was born on a 'Health Farm' in the UK in the 1960's. My father started working there in the 1950's. The Health Farm started in the 1930's and was all about growing organic vegetables and treating cancer and ailments with vegetables and fasting. We did colonics and osteopathy, exercise and yoga. My father was head of the Organic gardening. He died this year aged 93 from a sudden twisted gut. My mum is 85 and still going strong. Neither took medicine, only vegetables. So these beliefs have been going on for a century at least!!! This movement is not new!!

It’s so strange how many people - unbelievers, haters, shamers, come out of the woodwork when truth rears its head. Always have ~ always will. I’m not a Strict vegan but mostly all plant based and I know we as humans were made to eat plants! Meat in extreme cold temps is also a need but in very strict moderation. Love this talk! Great interview.

This is such a smart conversation. I finally have something to share with friends and family who continue to believe that veganism is extreme and unnatural.
It is EXTREME in countries where you have winter, wind, cold, snow etc. I love that guy, however, it is important to remember, that vegan diet is good for hot countries, not for cold one.
@@friday8091 I live in New England, USA. We have winter, wind cold and snow for part of the year and a vegan diet suits me just fine. Maybe you mean that there are no stores and that the only food source is to hunt. That's a situation that could happen. It doesn't mean you couldn't survive on a vegan diet if one were available to you. Could be possible to load up on dried grains and legumes and frozen vegetables. Potato and apple etc can last a month. So you could possibly go a month or more without a trip to the store if you plan accordingly. Not to mention freeze dried and canned foods.

An old Army friend of mine sent me a message 8 weeks ago telling me he was seeing his Doctor weekly, he was taking blood pressure pills causing him to cough and his eyes sting. He asked me about my "plant diet" so I told him about my WFPB life. I told him to tell his Doctor he's going to change his life and try WFPB. He sent me a message today saying he feels amazing, he's lost over a stone in weight and 4 inches from his waist and his blood pressure is normal. I asked what his Doc said and he said in the end he didn't tell him he'd stopped taking the pills, he just changed his diet. The Doctor said, "the medication seems to be working now!"
Great for your friend but how utterly stupid not to tell his doctor that the change in diet did all of this. Thats a wasted opportunity right there to give somebody who could in his work possibly change the live of hundreds of people a new perception on his approach as a doctor.

Well the plant based community finally got through to me with this guy. I'm home with a neck injury ( C1 and C2 T1 type fracture),and not able to exercise. I didn't realize Rip was a vegan when I saw his interview with LA, but I liked what I heard. His athletic prowes is undeniable. I'm tired fighting my scale. I've teased vegans for years, and now I'm reluctantly becoming one. As far as cost my grocery cost is less than half. While "whole foods" is a block from my house I rarely go there, because of the cost. Meat is our families biggest expense. I could afford a new mtb with my savings on groceries. Thanks for the great interview.
WF does not have to be expensive. Buy the house brand 365. They have a fat free marinara for 2.49. The bulk section will save you tons. Now that you are not spending big bucks on meat, splurge a little on good produce.

Love both you guys. I've been plant based for five months and from the start consumed anything I could that both Rich and Rip have done. Books, podcasts, audios, blog posts, whatever. You both such an inspiration for those of us that are babies in the lifestyle. You have made a difference and continue to do so every day! !!!
I became vegan at 12 after reading Peter Singer's book. My grandfather had been raised 7th Day Adventist, and although no longer followed the religion, nor a completely vegetarian diet, absolutely loved his fresh foods. He was incredible for me. I'd go over and he'd ask if I wanted soup, and then trot out to his garden and collect all the ingredients! It was a joke in the family that whenever something bad happened, he'd walk straight into the kitchen and start preparing a vegetable soup. Knowing what I now know about stress and the gut microbiome, I realise that he instinctually knew what he was doing - and the reason he was able to have that intuition was the diet he'd had growing up.
Really appreciate the video podcasts. While I listen to podcasts in the car/in the gym/etc., it's hard to bring myself to just sit and focus on one while I'm at home, but with the video, it's so much more engaging. Love the podcast, Rich. Hope you keep the videos coming.
Both of you are so good ambassadørs for this life style of eating whole food plant Based diet with no added Oil and only small amount of added salt - and its just so inspiring to listen to you - and thank you both of you so much forspreading the information and to show how it can be done in practice . We got to hear a talk from Rip and then meet him last year, and he is so inspiring! My husband's numbers were off the chart, and he was pending a heart attack at any moment.... one year later and his numbers are all in the normal or lower normal range and he is off of all his medications (plus we are down 40 pounds each). LOVE Rip and love you!! :)
I am listening to this in 2020 as an old white woman in Canada and all I can think of is "Boys, check your privileged at the door." When Rip started talking about the " Low cost" of groceries being $11.00 a day all I can think of is the number of videos I have watched regarding the $3 per day groceries challenges that are the reality for so many impoverished, low income, fixed income, elderly people. Many of us already eat beans, rice and oatmeal. Eating as a broke person is simple, bland and uninspiring whether one is plant based or not. It is a sad reflection on society that milk costs more than cola, fruit costs more than chips and a veggie burger costs more than a... what is that stuff they put in a fast food burger? That being said, this was an excellent talk.
A pilot coworker who’s also a body builder saw me eating my veggies while reading a plant-based nutrition book declared to me he’s an expert on nutrition and, “FRUIT IS THE ENEMY!” I asked what he eats... steamed chicken and microwaved broccoli, every day, except that he allows himself half an apple once a week. (What happens to the other half?) He scoffed at me and my dinner again and told me I wasn’t getting enough protein (uh huh) and repeated that fruit is the enemy. After assuring him I’m not dying from a lack of protein, I asked him how he felt. That’s when he confessed to “not great” and his toilet habits were pretty bad. As a flight attendant and health coach, I talked with him about my success and amazing health, but he wasn’t buying it and clams up every time he sees me now. I hope I planted a seed though, and next time I see him, I want to forward him this excellent video from two dude athletes who are totally rocking it. Keep setting the right examples!
you do realize there is not one perfect diet for all. different people operate best with different diets. dont be so dogmatic and think you are 100% right and try to enforce it on others. just live your life and do your best to be healthy for your body. it's very irresponsible for rip to say keto is a complete load of crap. there are definitely people who greatly benefit from keto. everyone has a different constitution. btw i am a vegan incase you think im a paleo/keto/carnivore advocate. im just saying stop being stupid.

OMG!!! I can tell you stories of women I know on Keto!!! High everything. I had to go vegan or I would be dead - if I was on keto I would be definately be DEAD!!! My friend told me the other day to write a book on how I reversed my CHF, and stay cancer and heart disease free! I am considering it. I had a tee-shirt made that says in big red letters: GO VEGAN, and under it Daniel 1:10-13 Thank you for your info. I am sharing. I got off sugar with Keto. Didn't stay keto diet because cholesterol went up in just a few weeks on that diet. Now I'm vegan. I'm just putting out the idea of loosening the grip of sugar addiction by switching to other taste satisfying foods temporarily. Now i don't crave sugar nor fat. My palate has changed since transitioning vegan mid-December 2018. Does not take long. Only need motivation. For me it was getting a diagnosis of pre-diabetes.
Great talk... loved the "peasant food" response to 'high cost'. Although I've been a vegetarian for 40+ years and have a healthy BMI of 23.7, I've just downloaded Rip's e-book for a better understanding on 'plant-based' so I can explain with more authority when necessary to doubters in my circles.

@ 25 - the Keto discussion - thee's possibly an attribution error (or several) within the Keto community and the plant based community. If you listen to the researchers who use a low carb (usually calorie restricted) to address cancer they are trying to drive down insulin to very low levels as insulin is a driver of growth when cancer gets a toehold. They also recognize that elevated amino acids is a driver of cancer through the IGF-1 pathway. So cancer diets for therapeutic reasons is generally

Hi guys, loving the WFPB blogs. We are just embarking on a WFPB diet/lifestyle and are impressed by the claims of the prevention and reversal of certain diseases. My wife has a Thyroid problem and she wondered if there is any information that a plant based diet can positively affect her problems brought about by a thyroid diagnosis.
Do you believe this K2-m7 helps to illuminate plaque in arteries. Do you believe if calcification has gone to main aorta can be helped without surgery.

Well said! It really is sad how vilified "carbs" are in the fitness community. Leading by example is the best we can do.

It doesn't mean you couldn't survive on a vegan diet if one were available to you. Could be possible to load up on dried grains and legumes and frozen vegetables. Potato and apple etc can last a month. So you could possibly go a month or more without a trip to the store if you plan accordingly. Not to mention freeze dried and canned foods.

An old Army friend of mine sent me a message 8 weeks ago telling me he was seeing his Doctor weekly, he was taking blood pressure pills causing him to cough and his eyes sting. He asked me about my "plant diet" so I told him about my WFPB life. I told him to tell his Doctor he's going to change his life and try WFPB. He sent me a message today saying he feels amazing, he's lost over a stone in weight and 4 inches from his waist and his blood pressure is normal. I asked what his Doc said and he said in the end he didn't tell him he'd stopped taking the pills, he just changed his diet. The Doctor said, "the medication seems to be working now!"

Great for your friend but how utterly stupid not to tell his doctor that the change in diet did all of this. Thats a wasted opportunity right there to give somebody who could in his work possibly change the live of hundreds of people a new perception on his approach as a doctor.
He must have been taking lisinopril...that causes cough... that’s just a side effect you can actually see. Most med have side effects you can’t see.

Well the plant based community finally got through to me with this guy. I'm home with a neck injury ( C1 and C2 T1 type fracture),and not able to exercise. I didn't realize Rip was a vegan when I saw his interview with LA, but I liked what I heard. His athletic prowes is undeniable. I'm tired fighting my scale. I've teased vegans for years, and now I'm reluctantly becoming one.
As far as cost my grocery cost is less than half. While "whole foods" is a block from my house I rarely go there, because of the cost. Meat is our families biggest expense. I could afford a new mtb with my savings on groceries. Thanks for the great interview.

WF does not have to be expensive. Buy the house brand 365. They have a fat free marinara for 2.49. The bulk section will save you tons. Now that you are not spending big bucks on meat, splurge a little on good produce.
For success don't just give up animal foods, make sure you add healthy delicious foods so you don't feel deprived. Good Luck.

I was raised vegetarian 7th day Adventist. I have always known too much. And I thank my parents. I'm healthy at age 52 . ❤
I became vegan at 12 after reading Peter Singer's book. My grandfather had been raised 7th Day Adventist, and although no longer followed the religion, nor a completely vegetarian diet, absolutely loved his fresh foods. He was incredible for me. I'd go over and he'd ask if I wanted soup, and then trot out to his garden and collect all the ingredients!
It was a joke in the family that whenever something bad happened, he'd walk straight into the kitchen and start preparing a vegetable soup. Knowing what I now know about stress and the gut microbiome, I realise that he instinctually knew what he was doing - and the reason he was able to have that intuition was the diet he'd had growing up.
Really appreciate the video podcasts. While I listen to podcasts in the car/in the gym/etc., it's hard to bring myself to just sit and focus on one while I'm at home, but with the video, it's so much more engaging. Love the podcast, Rich. Hope you keep the videos coming.

We got to hear a talk from Rip and then meet him last year, and he is so inspiring! My husband's numbers were off the chart, and he was pending a heart attack at any moment.... one year later and his numbers are all in the normal or lower normal range and he is off of all his medications (plus we are down 40 pounds each). LOVE Rip and love you!! :)
I am listening to this in 2020 as an old white woman in Canada and all I can think of is "Boys, check your privileged at the door." When Rip started talking about the " Low cost" of groceries being $11.00 a day all I can think of is the number of videos I have watched regarding the $3 per day groceries challenges that are the reality for so many impoverished, low income, fixed income, elderly people. Many of us already eat beans, rice and oatmeal. Eating as a broke person is simple, bland and uninspiring whether one is plant based or not. It is a sad reflection on society that milk costs more than cola, fruit costs more than chips and a veggie burger costs more than a... what is that stuff they put in a fast food burger?
That being said, this was an excellent talk.

A pilot coworker who’s also a body builder saw me eating my veggies while reading a plant-based nutrition book declared to me he’s an expert on nutrition and, “FRUIT IS THE ENEMY!” I asked what he eats... steamed chicken and microwaved broccoli, every day, except that he allows himself half an apple once a week. (What happens to the other half?) He scoffed at me and my dinner again and told me I wasn’t getting enough protein (uh huh) and repeated that fruit is the enemy. After assuring him I’m not dying from a lack of protein, I asked him how he felt. That’s when he confessed to “not great” and his toilet habits were pretty bad. As a flight attendant and health coach, I talked with him about my success and amazing health, but he wasn’t buying it and clams up every time he sees me now. I hope I planted a seed though, and next time I see him, I want to forward him this excellent video from two dude athletes who are totally rocking it.

you do realize there is not one perfect diet for all. different people operate best with different diets. dont be so dogmatic and think you are 100% right and try to enforce it on others. just live your life and do your best to be healthy for your body. it's very irresponsible for rip to say keto is a complete load of crap. there are definitely people who greatly benefit from keto. everyone has a different constitution. btw i am a vegan incase you think im a paleo/keto/carnivore advocate. im just saying stop being stupid.

OMG!!! I can tell you stories of women I know on Keto!!! High everything. I had to go vegan or I would be dead - if I was on keto I would be definately be DEAD!!! My friend told me the other day to write a book on how I reversed my CHF, and stay cancer and heart disease free! I am considering it. I had a tee-shirt made that says in big red letters:

I got off sugar with Keto. Didn't stay keto diet because cholesterol went up in just a few weeks on that diet. Now I'm vegan. I'm just putting out the idea of loosening the grip of sugar addiction by switching to other taste satisfying foods temporarily. Now i don't crave sugar nor fat. My palate has changed since transitioning vegan mid-December 2018. Does not take long. Only need motivation. For me it was getting a diagnosis of pre-diabetes.

Great talk... loved the "peasant food" response to 'high cost'. Although I've been a vegetarian for 40+ years and have a healthy BMI of 23.7, I've just downloaded Rip's e-book for a better understanding on 'plant-based' so I can explain with more authority when necessary to doubters in my circles.

If you listen to the researchers who use a low carb (usually calorie restricted) to address cancer they are trying to drive down insulin to very low levels as insulin is a driver of growth when cancer gets a toehold.
