Toys aside, I think think the movie was vastly under rated. It's essentially a modern adaptation of Allen Quartermain and the search for King Solomon's Mines with a twist. I enjoyed it as a kid and now. Sadly as many of Jurassic Parks toys I owned then I hadn't even a clue they had even made a toy line for it.
Congo is my favorite movie and i'm obsessed with collecting the merch. I remember seeing it in theaters when I was like 10 and i think my obsession with it stems from an honest bewilderment about how they really thought this was going to be huge with kids.
Yet another intellectual property that Neca needs to do figures of, hopefully more faithfully
These were such peg warmers in the 90’s, that if you go to where a TRU used to be you can still find them there
All I remember about this movie was its aggressive marketing and that one scene where a gorilla gets its arm chopped off with a laser beam.
Have the Karen Ross and Blast Face figures. Got them at Kaybee Toys in the late 90s. They were in a discount barrel with a bunch of other failed action figure lines.
I saw this in the theater, and I barely remember it.
Ebert actually gave this movie a thumbs up.
Some of those actually look pretty good. Especially the Danny Glover guy. I can't see how they thought it looked like Ernie Hudson.
Good stuff Junkman!
These are awesome. Glad you covered the vehicles, too.
Kenner has all your basses covered Superman has the power of flight, Luke Skywalker has the Power of the Force, Karen has the power to speak to your manager.
i LOVE this figure line. lol. so much fun as a kid.
I liked the Congo and still watch it occasionally.
Always look forward to these episodes, movie was great but the toys looked a little cheap. Fave line was, "Every monkey for 200 miles thinks hes Elvis Presley!" in a full moon!
At 1 point I had all of the regular carded figures. (I bought a bunch from a toy store when it closed.) Fun fact: Blastface had a different name which made it on to the original card backs (for sale): Skinhead. Then they updated the cards & changed the name. Sometimes you can still find the original name, but most likely it will be covered up by a sticker on both front & back.
Yeah, I can see why they changed that name.
Fun fact: skinheads are the ones who came up with "All Cops Are Bastards" (ACAB), which is now used by Antifa.
I remember having a killer gorilla figure from Congo back then. The movie is like a kids version of Jurassic Park, made for kids.
I loved this as a kid had them all
Hahahahahah the TRUE KISS OF DEATH: "Produced by Kathleen Kennedy!!!!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍 The Karen Ross figure looks like a repaint of the Ripley figure from the Kenner Aliens line.
1000% Facts all true 👍😂👏
Yes just like back to the future, ET, The sixth sense, The color purple, and so many other huge hits. I bet most producers wish they had that kind of kiss of death.
@@ThatJunkman hahahah true, but I truly wonder how much of those films success was from her input or the imput of more talented people? I think we can all agree MAC AND ME IS WAAAAY BETTER THAN E.T.!!!
@@robertdanker6193 She also worked on The Last Airbender. Based on what she did with Star Wars, it doesn't seem like the success of the movies she was associated with really had anything to do with her input.
@@KasumiKenshirou hahaha wow I didn't know that! Yeah I would have to 100% agree with you !!👍
I remember when these first hit stores and thinking it was the worst looking action figure line I'd ever seen, especially the gorillas! The line flopped and was quickly closed out. I remember buying a full set, minus the 2 deluxe figures, on close out at Target for around $1.00 each, I was big into collecting action figures at the time and would complete just about any action figure line if the price was right!
Can’t believe I’ve never seen this film 🤦🏼♂️ also I love it how you say ve hi cle 😂
I actually liked Congo, it even had a SNES game that was canned before release. It's been leaked since and is rough as hell.
I bought the entire line, figures and vehicles, except the deluxe and mail away figures for about $20 on clearance at Target. I didnt know there was a mail away until recently as it wa a Pepsi promo that wasn't mentioned on the figure cards. And, Taco Bell had a lava burrito to coincide with the film.
Great video junkman. I dimly remember the movie and roys. Kinda makes me wanna go back and watch it
The Pepsi commercial for this movie....it...is just amazing and yet it still feels wrong.
I spit out out my coffee when it said kathleen kennedy 😂
Thanks a whole bunch Junkman! 👍🏼
wow i saw congo at the show and never kew they made figures goes to show i was out of toys by that time
Interesting, and forgotten toyline..
I do loves gorilla movies. Another 5⭐, outta 5 star reviews Junkman.
remeber I saw these all over toys r us back in the day.Never watch
hed the movie, but remember a ton of hype. But seems the figures did not have much play in them
The net real and trial hacker are indeed Jurassic Park vehicle toys. They're repaints of the series 2 net trapper and jungle runner. Ironically the Congo versions are easier and cheaper to get than the Jurassic Park versions.
And yeah I do wanna look for them now to start a collection of classic JP toys these guys would be perfect as extra dino trackers in the lost world 😀
I remember my dollar tree carrying the figures for like 30 years. I never got around to seeing the movie but did read the book and got the Taco Bell watch lol.
Wish I had me a Taco Bell watch😔
The novel is completely different than the film.
Remember the figure line power lords from the 80's? Yalk about a really cool but not much love toy line
i actually enjoyed congo.
it's kinda like some of the cheesy 80s movies I love. always liked Tim Curry too
What a Failure.....No Junkman not this video, it was Great! I mean the 1995 Congo Toy Line. All I had on my mind in 95 was New POTF!
The Karen Ross figure on the card back looks like a repainted Ripley from the Aliens toy line
I actually really liked the movie as a kid, I still do. I think just because Bruce Campbell was in it
DON'T TOUCH MY SESAME SEED CAKE!!!
I had all of them.
You should do the Stargate movie toys
I didn't have any of these, they came out when I was a junior in high school, you know that weird time where you want to have sex with girls and collect toys. The sex won out of course. Now as an adult I can do both!
“That weird time where you want to have sex with girls and collect toys”
I’m 44 year old and I still feel that way! 🤣😂🤣😂
Ahhhh mid 90s toys....
I wasn’t exactly compelled to buy those figures either.
This was the first movie as an adult I went to and was thoroughly disappointed in.
I know I had the "Congo" single action figures, which I left sealed. I may have had the deluxe action figures. I know I did not have the mail away figure and the two vehicles. I eventually sold them, thinking they would never be worth a plug nickel. In hindsight, I should have kept them. 😥
I enjoy your videos on these not so popular toy lines man. I enjoyed seeing the movie at a small, now closed mall in Austin. Bruce Campbell should of had a larger role than what he had!! And the one and only tim curry (best pennywise) was good in it too. Better movie then jurassic park 2!!
Never saaaen this movviie
I’ve never been able to get through this movie. I get bored almost instantly. The toys were on pegs forever out here.
I went into Target the other day, and those "Congo" figures WERE STILL ON THE PEGS!!!!!!!
It took me three attempts to finally watch the entire film.
Gambit771 you’re a better man than I.
I watched it high as hell and I enjoyed it
Lol I still have my blast ape.
Loved kongo, I didn't really care for the figures.
That was a good movie🤘
5:31 The only difference is that this time, T. rex would’ve killed the gorilla!
I can't believe Tim Curry is in an electric wheelchair nowadays...😔...😥...💔
Age is a bitch
Tim curry suffered a stroke
He was great in CLUE and the best pennywise.
I didn't have any of the toys, but I liked the movie. Stop eating my sesame cake!
"Every word of it was absooooooooooLUTELY TRUE!"
What a bad movie that exploited authors name to sell it
It was cool to see Bruce Campbell have a cameo
The toys were fun though
When you going to do a live stream again
Not sure. Not a fan of it honestly
I still haven't seen Congo. Should I?
yes, it's great, gets a bad rap but it is a fun time all around
It's worth a watch. Entertaining for all the wrong reasons. The Jerry Goldsmith is great, one of the only unironically good things about the film.
I enjoyed the book it was based on, but was pretty disappointed in the movie.
Didn't see it. Didn't buy the action figures. I was 19 in 1995 and wasn't spending money on toys other than Star Trek and Monster in My Pocket by this point. I'd even stopped buying X-Men figures.
Didn't no there was figures thay must of came and went pritty fast UK toy's r us probably had em that was allways a good shop to find figures that were hard to find played the SNES game that didn't come out whot I played was ok there was no sound in the version I played
So excited for this after reading it.....so bad ...so very very very bad
CONGO was just a rip-off of a far superior animated movie;
m.ua-cam.com/video/wYj5o4kQsXs/v-deo.html
i do not recall these toys, like everyone else i didn't care.
i never saw the movie either and seeing as how Kunt Kennedy produced it i never will.
So you will not watch back to the future?
Ernie Hudson was the only good thing about this film.
What a waste of Ernie and Bruce Campbell.
I try not to be negative in the comments but "Congo" sucked. It wasn't as disappointing as "Ice Pirates" but it was disappointing. I didn't care about the toys because I didn't care about the movie. Nuff said.
The movie is straight ass. The book is nothing like this movie
