Captain Wanta (Delroy Lindo) gives his guests a warm welcome to Africa.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Good gorillas meet bad gorillas while human beings search for treasure in this jungle advnture saga. R.B. Travis (Joe Don Baker) is the ruthless head of Travi-Com, a telecommunications firm on the cusp of a major breakthrough in laser communications technology. However, Travis needs diamonds to finish the project, so he sends a group of men to Zaire, where he's told that a large supply of the gems can be easily found. When the men go missing, Travis sends his trusted assistant Karen Ross (Laura Linney), a one-time CIA associate, into the jungle to find both his staff and the jewels. Hoping to keep her mission a secret, Karen travels to Zaire in the company of Peter (Dylan Walsh), a researcher on primate development who is hoping to return Amy, a gorilla who has been taught sign language and can "speak" English with the help of a glove-controlled computer device. Also travelling with them is Herkermer (Tim Curry), a Romanian with a secret agenda: he's convinced that Amy can guide him to the Lost City of Zinj, where he believes that King Solomon's Mines are located. Upon arrival, the group is met by Monroe Kelly (Ernie Hudson), a self-described "great white hunter who happens to be black," and they discover that the jungle holds a menace that they weren't counting on: a tribe of bloodthirsty gray gorillas. Congo was based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Michael Crichton.

I was the camera operator on Congo and filming this scene was one of the highlights of the production. It was shot in the Castle Green building in Pasadena, CA. Delroy Lindo, the actor cast as the corrupt military man is a magnificent actor, and Tim Curry's comedic work here had me in stitches the day we filmed (and still does). This was one of Laura Linney's first movies. She was joy to work with. Same with Ernie, a real gentleman. This scene is a great example of what was the best part of my job as an operator: Seeing a performance like this one unfold in real time. What a gift.
Wow.. cool story... this scene is probably one of my favourite scenes from any movie in my life...

Every time I see Delroy Lindo, the first thing that runs through my mind is "STOP EATING MY SESAME CAKE!" It's the greatest line he's every uttered in a movie, in my opinion.

I saw the One in Theater with Jet Li. People saw him as the multiuniversal cop and started saying it aloud. I was cracking up but also uncomfortable because people who did not get it were getting super annoyed.
This scene is iconic. Saw this movie over a decade ago and I still quote parts of it from "Have some!" to "Stop e a t i n g my sesame cake!"

Tim Curry's reaction after that dude grabs him is a masterclass in acting. Take note!
Tim loved this character as it was a change from the roles he had played before and one was of course Pennywise, which Tim really got a kick out of playing.
The complete scene that ends with Delroy Lindo stapling the money in a paper bag before allowing them to leave is one of the funniest movie scenes ever filmed. Ernie Hudson is fantastic in this movie, Munro is a great character, Ernie Hudson plays the character perfectly.

Originally written for Sean Connery. Ernie Hudson is on record saying this was his favorite role.

This captain is so unhinged and ready to snap, but I LOVE the reaction he gets from everyone in this scene! Everything seems so civil and modern at first and then we have extortion, bribery, government corruption, conspiracy, sesame kay-k...and one loony-toon military guy orchestrating it all. Classic.
Well, you have to look at it from his angle. Here he is, an underpaid civil servant trying to make it through a civil war and four changes of government with his head intact, and along come these shady foreigners, one of them former CIA and the other a con artist. He’s smart enough to know these people, with their backgrounds, are not here on a camping trip. If past is prologue, he figures they’re here to exploit the natural resources of the Congo like every pack of foreign freebooters before them (which, lets face it, is exactly what’s happening here). He thinks to himself “find, they’re gonna rob us? I’ll rob them first for the privilege.” And trust me, that bag of money is chicken feed compared to the wealth these people are after.

This was my favorite scene in Congo, and one my favorite scenes in any movie. Days ago I had rice krispie treats with sprinkles around Halloween. I asked my niece if she wanted some sesame cake, she said no, not knowing what sesame cake was. Then I reenacted this scene from Congo. She liked it after she realized it was really rice krispie treats. Afterwards I showed her this scene, we both got a laugh out of it and she wanted more rice krispie treats.
They say to this day he is still eating his sesame cake.
