    Cool idea. I've been itching to read Congo for a while now. Having a hard time finding a copy is used book stores or new book stores.

    I absolutely love both, that being said I see them as totally different stories.
    I think you kind of have to 🤣

    Hoping that coffee sip becomes the signature intro for this series! Loved the video, 100% agree the movie was better - I read the book right after Jurassic Park back in the day, but the movie wins on so many levels - and yes, Tim Curry.

    I've never seen the movie or read the book. However, I did have the book at one time. I don't know where it ran off to. Looks like I didn't miss much.

    Great idea. You are definitely becoming an essential watch. Keep it up. Also could you compare the shawshank redemption book to film?

      Eventually. I have over a dozen films I want to do, and this took me a month to put together, reading and recording, so be patient. Thanks for the kind words.

    Hey there was a Movie 🎥 Version in 1995 with the same name but why not do a reboot for the Netflix Tv Series called Congo with the Producer name Christopher Nolan who made The Dark Knight Trilogy but do you ever read Michael Crichton’s novel like Jurassic Park?

    Great video. I have this weird ability to enjoy both movie and book, and that holds true for most of the book-to-movie adaptations. I don't know why, my brain just automatically categorizes them as separate entities. But I can understand why people prefer one over the other. I actually enjoyed congo. Both book and movie. Sure, the book is a chore, but I like those technical details and jargon, and I liked the movie because I enjoyed the concept and actors in it, the set pieces where cool, sure some scenarios were outlandish, and the effects terrible, but I can just turn that critical part of my brain off and go on the adventure. Killer apes with a jungle adventure action sci-fi theme....I'm down.

    I never read Congo based off others reviews. I didn’t want to invest the time. The movie was okay but nothing exciting for me so I don’t own it in my collection. I’m a fan of Crichton’s work. Just not this one. Also great idea for a new series. Can’t wait to see future episodes. I’m already wondering how much King adaptations you’ll cover. That could be a series all of its own.

    What both Congo and Jurassic Park movie adaptations missed was the race against time element. In JP, it was the ship heading to the mainland with juvenile raptors aboard. In Congo, it was the consortium's expedition to get to the mythical city and the diamonds first. I also prefer the paddle-wielding guardian apes and their history rather than the big-fisted apes in the movie. I've always disliked extra characters in adaptations there were more than a couple, most prominently Tim Curry's character and Amy's assistant handler. For me the highpoint was Bruce Campbell's small role and trademark yell. I appreciate your analysis and your video.

    What did you think about how the apes looked in the movie vs the book? The apes seemed more intelligent in the books from the little that I've read about. I'd love to see the makers of the new Plant of the Apes movies remake CONGO. It could be awesome.

      I personally found the book better as they gave more info on why they look different, being that they are both gorilla and human, they were the result of cross species conception and twisted train boosting, warping the ape features and changing their color.

    Just started reading the Shining. (my first King book) I’m loving it so far. Do you have any suggestions for my next king horror book? Other then IT, which I will be reading soon.

    I haven’t watched Congo in years and I never read the book. I’ll have to give it a watch and see how it holds up.
    The first thing that comes to mind, when I think about book vs movie, is American psycho. I HATE the book! Utter garbage...sorry, I had to get that out of my system.

    • @EdwardLorn
      @EdwardLorn  5 років тому +1

      The book is difficult to get through. The movie is much easier to consume.

      Edward Lorn yeah, I couldn’t finish it and I hardly ever give up on a book.

    I saw the movie a few years back but I haven't read the book. Not sure I will read the book because I didn't really like the movie.

    • @EdwardLorn

      The movie has a lot more action and the female lead is more entertaining.

  • @BrownPotato2000

    To me, the book was much better. The movie felt rushed and was basically a different story entirely.

    I haven't read the book or seen the movie version of Congo. In fact, I just started reading my first Crichton novel, Sphere. I'm finding it so dull that I'm probably going to DNF the sucker. It has flat characters, slow pacing, and the tech is out of date, but not so out of date to make it interesting for nostalgia sake.

    • @EdwardLorn
      @EdwardLorn  5 років тому

      I don't blame ya. I almost quit CONGO for all the same reasons.

    I hated the main character in the movie. He was such a wimpy douche. Monroe was great though.

  • @sarahjanefrost
    @sarahjanefrost 5 років тому

    Never seen the book or the movie, but have read a couple of Crichton's other books (Prey, Micro, and Andromeda Strain) and seen Jurassic Park, Andromeda Strain and Sphere (didn't realise that was a Crichton book).
    Why all the cuts in your video? You kept cutting yourself off.
    I have more of a problem with Helen Hunt and Laura Dern.
    There are so many book vs movie suggestions I could make and Hollywood churns out more every year. I just watched The Secret Scripture which is by Sebastian Barry and stars Rooney Mara and Eric Bana and started the Sharp Objects series.
    Having lost your Jaws will you find/borrow another copy or will you do something else instead? In that instance the movie was definitely better.

    • @EdwardLorn
      @EdwardLorn  5 років тому +1

      I've since found the paperback of JAWS. Should've said that in the video. As far as the cuts are concerned, I'm trying something new 😊
