When I worked in Afghanistan I had to on many occasions drive from Kabul to Bagram at breakneck speeds, over huge potholes, on and off the dirt on both sides of the road. In other words Fast and hard. Occasionally I had the pleasure of driving the Lexus GX. It was the ultimate vehicle for that kind of crazy driving because it felt the most confident, it handled, it didnt throw passengers around as much, smooth quiet, awesome real world tough as nails 4x4.
Just picked up the GX 460 less than two weeks ago. I retired and don’t drive as much as I used to. That’s probably why I’m still on my dealer tank of gas. I have to say it all it rides and drives like a dream. I got it in atomic silver.
A drunk driver recently hit and totaled my 2018 F150 platinum with 30k miles and the check the insurance cut me was what I paid brand new + taxes... crazy times
We just got a ‘23 and LOVE it. Yes, the mileage is poor, but when you understand the mechanics of that engine’s injection system, combined with the weight and the transfer box, you understand. I had an Expedition with 3rd row seats that were used ONCE in 12 years. You just don’t need them very often. The GX’s “3rd row” is better described as a well-designed cargo area with an emergency 3rd row.
Agree. Washed and detailed mine for the first time yesterday. Outstanding build quality. Yes gas mileage stinks but gas up at Costco/BJ. This car is A bargain For what you get and on the highway the MPG isn’t that bad.
Totally agree! This GX 460 drives like a 1960s limousine- smooth & solid! Every time IO get into my GX I feel like I am getting into a very luxury vehicle. The new GX 550 should never have been made!
@@beyondhometown Wife and I are now divorced, but I believe her GX is approaching 240K now. It needs wheel bearings, valve cover gaskets, front suspension work, and a few other things. Nothing mechanical is wrong with it, but it needs several thousand to bring it back to normal currently.
I've been waiting for this review! I just bought a 2022 and I can't believe how much I'm enjoying driving it. I wasn't convinced I was making the right decision for me but as it turns out it was the best decision I could have made. Just an all around amazing truck.
Do you have a tow hitch on it? Was it factory installed or after market. If after market please share what you put on there. Lexus customer service just called me and told me that was NOT an option for the 2022, but I think he is wrong. Someone set me straight . My dealer can’t find a tow hitch for the 2022, ludicrous!
Well said, I've owned one for almost a year, im still watching videos on them. I love how people talk about them, I like pushing mine, such a tough utility vehicle.
We purchased a ‘23 GX Starfire Pearl with Roya Red interior in the premium plus package. We love it. I hear so many complaints about how it's outdated inside and out. It had enough tech for my wife and me, and we are in our 40s, but we do not have small kids; they are grown now. It turns heads and commands respect.
Agreed! How much tea h do you really need anyway! I want a simple, solid, reliable vehicle the the GC 460 fits this criteria. It does everything that I need it to have, it can carry cargo and people inn a very comfortable ride.
Spot on review! Just 2 weeks ago I traded my 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 4Matic for a brand new 2023 Lexus GX460, the LAST ONE my dealer had and I absolutely love the GX… one of the best decisions I’ve ever made buying a vehicle. Thank you for this review, it makes me feel even better about my decision!
I own a 2011 GX in tungsten pearl color. I bought it being familiar overseas with the Prado. Not much has changed with the 2022 besides aesthetics. Love your videos and thank you!
Your review guided me after selling my 19’ 4Runner TRD OR to a 16’ GX460 Luxury w/ Crawl Control. I am happier and more comfortable but still allowing me to go where i want safely. Thank you
Our family bought a 2012 gx 460 about a year ago with only 75k on the odometer. This truck is amazingly solid and reliable. It LOVES to be driven and feels fantastic at 80+ mph. The manual downshift option is SO helpful in serious mountain driving. It may be one of the most reliable cars ever made. The mileage is terrible but we have a prius too so it all balances out.
I just bought a 2023. Only have 5k miles on it so far, probably not even fully broken in, but on a recent highway trip at 70-75mph I got 21.5 mpg. Around town, probably avg around 16. Happy camper here!
we just got a GX. i thought your final verdict was in line with our buying experience and thought process 16:25 exactly - for what youre getting, the price of the GX is very very good. ESPECIALLY since cheaper makes/models are forcing you to pay markups now, and a lot of lexus dealerships are still not doing that (ours did not, but i know some are) 16:53 when you sit in it you do actually smile. i test drove an RX 350 before the GX, but only in the GX did i smile 18:04 we did look at the 4runner - shared those two EXACT thoughts compared to the GX - 4Runner felt UNDER POWERED with CHEAPER looking/feeling interior!
Just bought a Lexus CPO 2020 GX 460 for my wife. You are spot on. Looked at both 4Runner Limited and a RX 350. My wife preferred the GX and it was affordable compared to new. Looking forward to many years driving it.
08 GX470 owner here what ever he said is correct. 225K miles on odometer and still runs like brand new. everything works. Personally i prefer 470 over 460 based on exterior looks, but damn 460 is real nice inside.
Thanks for reviewing the GX. I love my 2017. It’s such a great, quality vehicle. Just make sure you treat the undercarriage with fluid film or something similar to avoid rust. I live in the Chicago area and that’s the one weakness with all the salt.
Solid review. I wanted a Grand Cherokee Summit and got a better deal on my 2020 GX. I relocated from the city and now live on a Ranch. You can’t really appreciate this vehicle if you only hit Starbucks drive thru. It is a beast that can tackle mud, hills, and whatever you throw at it. You can then rinse it off and show up at that 5 star restaurant ( which are atleast 3 hours away from me). Bottom line this is arguably the most versatile, affordable luxury off roader with a V8 on the market. Gas is terrible but it rides like a dream.
I am in the market for 2023 and I can say that this guy went on explaining much better the concerns I had (mechanically of course) than the sales person at Lexus dealer. I know sales people are not well trained in the mechanic aspect of the vehicles but common sense questions they should be. Thank you for the detailed information and honest review especially on the mpg.
Overwhelming majority of sales folks know less than we the enthusiasts do when it comes to vehicles like these. AMD is not only a Toyota enthusiast, he is also a mechanical genius. We learn from the best.
I have the previous model, the GX470. 200k miles in, major maintenance was 2 timing belts and water pumps. I did the work myself. Otherwise just fluid changes and tires.
Love that you loved it enough to get it for your wife❤️. Got our 2022 based on this review. Had Audis for years, and although we loved them, maintenance costs were a drag.
Thanks for the good honest review that this truck deserves. I picked my 2022 GX 3 weeks ago. I enjoy driving it. I drove from OC to Palm springs CA and got about 21.5 MPG cruising at 70-75 miles per hour. Currently most dealers are charging over MSRP, but I waited for mine about 2 months and got it at MSRP from LongoLexus here in CA.
I bought a black line in nori green and absolutely love it. I still get tons of recommendations in UA-cam about the GX since I watched hours of content while waiting to take delivery. You are right about the negatives btw. MPG is NOT good, but very nice to drive.
Love your videos AMD I purchased a 2011 gx460 premium with 205,000 miles 2 years ago, one owner serviced at Lexus all the time until now, drives like new, I do the oil change and brakes, very good truck, best decision so far, wife drives it everyday to go work. I’m not complaining about gas mileage, I knew that before buying it. Reason we bought it was because after searching for best reliable, comfort, safety and off-roading Toyota/Lexus is King God Bless You AMD I also live here in Chicago, I may need go visit your shop one of this days
Had a 08 now a 23 nori green! You are 100% right they do have a soul and become a part of the family. Very few cars out there that can give you that! Awesome review
I have had this car since 2017. It had no problems for five years but I recently had to replace one side of the KDSS at a pretty significant cost out of warranty. I still think it is one of the most amazing cars on the road though.
I’m watching this video for the umpteenth time as I clean my 23’ GX. Couldn’t agree more. I’ll take my V8 ICE which will run hundreds of thousands of miles with basic maintenance vs a Tesla that will soon need battery replacement which in turn will harm the environment more when it’s disposed of. If I really need an electric car, I’ll go for a Toyota product. I feel like Tesla is more of just showing off; even has a bland interior. And not to mention big unequal body gaps which can be seen with the naked eye. Little to no quality inspection.
Thank you, great video and subscriber! We had the 2022 Mercedes GLE 350 - took it back and got 2022 GX460 Lux w off-road package. Love it and best decision made! Also have 1997 LX450 triple locked and love it! Still looks and runs like new w 145k miles on it.
I just traded my 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 for a brand new 2023 GX460 and I could not be happier! I love this Lexus GX and plan to drive it for a very long time.
My wife and I were looking at a new 4Runner limited which were running about $52k, a 2022 GX base model which has everything the 4Runner has plus more was running $59-62k here locally. I think we’re going to go for this, especially with the new infotainment system and added Apple Car Play
I think the GX460 is way better than a 4 runner you could say it's a Land cruiser Prado with a Lexus badge it's gonna last you pretty long and will also be a Great offroader in all terrains.
Great video AMD! The GX/LX/Prado/Land Cruiser is a testament to Toyota/Lexus quality. My mother’s 16 year old Prado in the Middle East has literally never had an issue - has been to the dealership only for regular servicing/oil changes. It’s my dream to buy one of these one day!
Seeing your later video first, where you present one 2023 model to Mrs. Car Care Nut, I think the answer in this video is an overwhelming yes:)) Thanks AMD. I got three Land Cruisers and always overlooked GXs. Now I know better.
The One to buy. The ride is excellent and luxurious. I have lots of friends who bought one of these after experiencing the nightmare of owning unreliable German SUV's - BMW X series, Mercedes ML/GL or Audi Q. What a difference- not a single problem and some of them are touching 180k miles now. It might be behind on the gizmos and gadgets side but you have a vehicle that will serve you trouble free for 20 years at least. Build in Japan with superb quality. It tows really well and impressively off -road capable. Bulletproof !!!
My GX has the optional 2nd row captains seats that are heated. A very nice place to be. The captain's seats allow for more legroom for those needing to sit in the third row. Only downside is with the third row up then no luggage space. Don't expect to fill every seat while taking luggage.
Look like you had your eyes on GX 460 for w while. Congratulations with the purchase of your 2023 beautiful GX 460. Enjoy your new toy, and drive safely. HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Hey even the 2000s or mid 2000s GX look great they age really well! I been doing the "run through your 4 High, 4 Low, and back to 2WD" and my old tundras switch gear hasn't fail!
@@rockwjz yes.. but that wasn't my point. My point is that the OP says its one of the few NA v8 out there when the reality is there's MANY v8s out there and nearly all of them are NA.
Great review! Love my 2017 GX, that blackout package does look great though. Don't know why I watch reviews about a car I already own and love, maybe I just love it that much? Thanks!
@@danielweintraub4540 Build quality is 10/10, great 4x4 architecture, luxury interior and just solid, reliable and dependable. Apart from the MPG it has literally everything I want out of a car/truck
@@danielweintraub4540 don’t let the gas mileage drive you away from this SUV. If you’re going from a Prius to this GX I understand the drastic change. I live upstate NY and it’s nothing flat about up here. I average 20ish mpg 22-23 strictly highways. Last chance to get a spanking brand new one. Good luck
Beautiful Beautiful truck. Flew out of state to get a great deal on mine. Drove it home. Got over 21 mpg. Just love this thing. Best looking....driving thing around.
@@mikegarbett4800 HI Mike. I bought used. With very low miles and still covered by factory warranty. I took my time and scoured the internet until I found the exact model..options...color I wanted. Can't beat it. Nothing out there made like it.
I got my 2023 gx460 luxury, white pearl with red interior. Lucky to to wait just 2 weeks and buy at MSRP with minimal dealer fee. I love it so far. Fear of v8 discontinuation partly drive my decision but this. 2023 model probably the end of v8.
Yep- the same thing was true for me! I was thinking of waiting for the new GX 460 to be produced until the Lexus Sales woman informed me that the V8 was going to be discontinued, the backorder wait time for the new GX 500 was going to be 6-12 months, and that the new GX 550 was going to cost $4,000 - $$8,000 more than the GX 460! Those facts confirmed my decision for the GX 460! I then test drove the GX 460 and it was like floating on a cloud- smooth ride, quiet, and more than enough normal driving power for me!
The GX is definitely my dream truck. I lean towards the 470, but they are getting harder and harder to find, so the 460 is the next step. Edit: I am now the proud owner of a 2014 GX460. I love everything about it, no regrets!!!
The 470 is the same engine as the first gen Tundra and Sequoia. I have changed the timing belt twice on my 2000 Tundra as I have owned it since November 1999. I prefer the timing chain rather than a timing belt that can break and then the engine is toast. I had a used 2007 Sequoia from 2012 to 2019. Changed the timing belt on that one time. My 2006 Sienna, I had to change the timing belt on that one as well. I am very happy Toyota and Lexus have ditched the timing belts. I just bought the GX460 2021 Premium model used with 12K miles. It is our Sequoia replacement and we are very happy. My other vehicle is a used 2014 ML350 which now seems a step down from this GX460.
Great video. Just purchased a 2022 GX Luxury. Awesome vehicle. What I find absent in most of the videos and articles from the “big name” car publications is the reliability. Why buy something I have to put a ton of money in after the warranty expires.
I have a 07 gx 460 with 240k miles still original engine . Has not been open the only major maintenance i have done is timing belt service. I can take this rig anywhere at any time. I have taken it to Texas about 6 times no problem. I leave the engine running for the whole trip 1500 miles one way.
AMD you are right, everytime I drive this thing, it brings smile to my face. I have a 15 w/ around 177k miles and this thing is absolutely the beast. I am planning to keep this thing forever.
Car care nut good video! I am happy with my 2019 RAV4 hybrid white with black roof! Got the first one the dealer had just did my 30,000 mile Toyota maintenance by the book! I appreciate all your advice you have given me! Big big thumbs up I support your channel!
Bought a 2023 premium plus… exchanged a ‘22 X5 for it … I won’t look back … I’m 66 and want something to last, normally aspirated V8 truck toughness… yet luxurious… love the ride / feel , …. Great review. Other vehicles: ‘93 Chevy 1 ton crew cab 454…. 90000 mi…. So gas mileage doesn’t matter lol… seriously GX is just right…. Thanks for your expertise!!!
I agree with everything you said. As a former owner of 3 4 Runners the last one I sold to my neighbor after 220k miles and now I own a 2016 GX that I use to tow my boat with. Power to tow and looking good while doing it.
Ur a funny guy, u obviously are in love with the gx460. I have a 2016 gx460 and love it, also i don't care it doesn't have the best MPG . I feel i can tackle the zombie apocalypse in style!
The current Prado in EU is called LC150 (Land Cruiser 150). What is interesting is that now in 2022 the top level model is called Black Edition and you can only barely tell the difference from the other levels from the outside look (it has very nice looking specific wheels) and probably some small badge but that one i just guess. The inside however - it comes with a top quality interior, really lexus level. Its awsome.
Sold our 2010 with 176k miles last year .. still have a 2016 and 2021 we kinda like em .. Honestly it's unreal how well the 2010 held up, since all 3 have exactly the same interior you almost had to think about which one you were driving..pinkies up!!
Hey thanks for an honest review, I'm looking for the right one. I wanna join this cult, mileage is not an issue, it's the quality And superior japanese engineering, truly a vehicle to pass on to the kids
Good video, own one 2011,196000 miles, still runs great, absolutely wonderful truck, will probably drive to 1/2 a million with God’s blessing. Thanks to wonderful intelligent guys at Toyota to make such a beauty, enjoy your’s.
I wish it had the rear door setup of the LC200 as that would be my ideal configuration. I'm not in love with the barn door over the hatch that I had on the 4Runner. I never used the roll down window on the 4Runner so not having that doesn't bother me.
Great review AMD, I completely agree with you about the premium fuel. That is the only downside of this gem. Lexus should never change anything on this GX for next 10 years.
I'm loving my 2022 Starfire Pearl GX 460 Black Line Edition so far after 1300 miles. I've been average 20mpg when driving on the highway and 15mpg in town. I don't miss my 4Runner...at all.
I love my 2017 GX. My goal is to own the 2022/2023 vehicle and I will be satisfied. This truck covers all bases... it doesn't age and delivers all a driver needs.
I just bought a '23 because I want to wait a few years to see the reliability and if I like the new gen. I know this generation is proven and can go to the ends of the earth and back! It just feels so solid that I have to get used to slamming my doors as opposed to my 4Runner :)
@@gregjoubert5118 I love my 4R and have it because I off-road in it. I did lift it, added high clearance bumpers, and bigger tires. It's a daily, but nothing like the GX. The GX is what the whole family gets in and we use it for trips that don't include off-roading. It's just a whole other level in refinement and comfort. The seats are awesome for us and the V8 is great for passing power on the highway. If you don't off-road, then I would get the GX. Depending the trim, 4R are going for the same price or more than GX's. New GX was 61k.
@@eliastamez8413 I got the GX and don't plan to offroad with it but if the opportunity presents itself with a hilly terrain, I will. But, why are we buying this super duper offroader and not taking it off-road? I think people laugh at us Mall Crawlers. lol
I have the 4R for that!😊 Too bad I can’t upload pics here, but it’s highly modified. I would put the GX in hilly terrain, but I go rock crawling and I wouldn’t want to scratch the nee GX😅
We have never had a luxury car, are going to look at this one. Cannot wait to check it out. I want the old school hydraulic steering, V8, body on frame. It is the only way to go. This might be a relic but it will last forever which is most important to me.
Regarding the mileage, the 4.6 liter engine really isn’t that “big”. That’s only 281 cubic inches. But because of that, not too heavy. It needs premium because of the 10.2:1 compression ratio, which is there for the needed power, and more than 1 HP per cubic inch is pretty good for a NA V8. At the end of the day, the high resale value gets you a lot, if not all, if that extra money spent on gas over some other vehicle with better mileage. BTW, I got 21.5 on a recent road trip.
Flash forward to 2023 I still think it’s a good buy. But you have to be prepared to put premium only and get terrible gas mileage and trade you get amazing reliability an amazing seasonal offloading ability. We bought one because we moved to Montana and it’s amazing in the snow.
2 years ago, i bought a 2011 gx460 used @130k. i had every common leak except the water pump. valley plate leaking coolant (this was the biggest leak). 3 out of 8 spark plug wells leaking oil. driver side valve cover gasket leaking oil. front-passenger strut leaking oil. radiator leaking coolant. seal between transfer case and transmission leaking TC fluid. both driver side (F+R) brake calipers leaking brake fluid. i have spent over 50 hours and $500+ fixing these leaks over the past 2 years. this would have cost $5k in labor if i paid someone else to do it. dont buy an old GX460 with high mileage unless you're prepared to address these leaks. i'm not alone; these leaks are well documented in the GX460 community.
also my timing chain cover is leaking oil. but i'm ignoring it because the fluid loss is so tiny, i cant even see the fluid level change on the dipstick between oil changes.
The GX is so good. I think it's the most reliable and capable SUV (like the Land Cruiser). The grille looks great on the GX. It just looks hideous on the Avalon or Corolla.
Love all your videos!!! I was debating between 4runner/GX. I decided to buy the GX because of V8 engine. I want to wait to the end of this year and buy one. Maybe the price might go down a bit. But I could not wait any more. So I just got my 2023 GX White/Sepia with Sport Design Package with Premium Plus and Captain's Chairs. (a gift for my Birthday) The dealer offered a great deal that I could not resist. And If I wait longer, I might not get the color/interior color that I want. Love my new GX
22 mpg that's pretty good for the size of that vehicle. What about around town, stop and go driving economy? Do you always run premium, 91 octane?? I am curious as my other half is looking at several 2021 models we are about to decide and I have deep concerns because of the premium requirement and the potential for gas prices to spike again in the near future. I was guessing 15-16 mpg around town, maybe 19-20 highway. The dealer told us 19-22 mpg combined which I felt was a stretch.
Love the GXs. Been driving ONLY the GXs for over 16 years. Still love them. most unique vehicle on the road. There is No comparison from any competitor,
I currently own a 2004 GX470, I’m the original owner and it’s 20 years old with 150k it still runs great. Don’t plan on selling/trading it. I recently bought this December 2024 a new 2023 GX 460 atomic silver. It had only 7000 miles on it. Can you imagine a 2004 and still owning a new 2023 you know I can compare the tremendous difference in the new model and it’s unbelievable!! They literally last forever, especially if you properly service them.
Have been looking for one for a bit and I found one at the dealer and I bought it, in part thanks to this video. It is the luxury version with the active suspension. This vehicle is a dream to drive and it is already with just a couple of hundred miles making about 17.6 MPG, hopefully it gets better after braking period. I am sure they are planing to get rid of this V8 as well, get one while you can.
Thanks for the great review! I really like the style and passion that I sensed during the video. Very informative. Greatly supports my decision to have bought a GX460 2023. I really love it.
I moved from a Jeep Rubicon. Great truck but since I am not a rock climber it turned to be too much of a “truck”: too bouncy, too noisy and space wise constrained. Now with GX like heaven came to Earth. Much better than I expected road quality wise except going to the fuel station. But the reward is superb: super smooth engine. Congratulations!
AMD, new subscriber and must say I appreciate your style and the effort you put into these videos. As for the GX, as a career firefighter/paramedic, we once responded to a highway-speed crash involving a Lexus GX. We agreed (after finally getting the occupants out) that if we were going to be in a wreck, we'd want to be in a...Lexus GX. God bless!
Always the most thoughtful and experienced review I turn to for candid in-depth information! I truly appreciate your video reviews and look forward to many more! Thank you.
Type of car that grows your wealth, reduces your stress and doesn't make your mechanic rich. Investment grade from the start, another Toyota/Lexus legend.
An amazing review by The Car Care Nut. Got my 2022 GX 2 weeks ago. I owned several brands before: Nissan, Mercedes, BMW, Peugeot, and Honda. Each had its vibe but none of my previous cars gave me the unique ride feel that the GX did. To start with, the car is extremely comfortable. I joke with my wife and tell her that driving it feels like I am wearing a crocs shoes the whole time, very comfortable yet stable and powerful. The car looks and feels luxurious but does lack few of the nice options that are useful: head up display, lane keep assist (GX only has lane departure warning), speed limiter (very useful inside cities that have speed limits), rear window wiper, and a good sound system. On the other hand, it's an SUV that lets you take control of your drive unlike the new MB's and BMW's that are full of technology that takes control of the car and steals your drive enjoyment. If you're a classic driver you will love the small things that the GX still offers: its gear stick (the good classic one, no buttons, no i drive), the rear door and window and how they open, the sound of the V8 engine as it revs, its non-digital dashboard, and no engine on/off option when you stop in traffic (always hated that feature), and the large mirrors on both sides. The GX is big enough and high enough but not Yukon or Patrol annoying big. Just the right size for an SUV that you plan to use inside the city. And finally, when you want to join the SUV club, you have to turn a blind eye on mileage (though the GX is not really bad on mileage especially if you utilize the comfort function with eco mode on). Oh, and that third row, consider it an emergency option ;)
My wife loves her GX. I’ve been impressed with it too and love the smooth V8. Wished my 2019 4R had the V8 but oh well, make do. If I want my V8 fix, just take the GX out for a drive.
I was seriously considering the GX, but ended up getting a 2022 4Runner Limited trim. The $18K higher upfront cost of the GX and premium gas does add up overtime.
@@LiquidTurbo yes definitely, but when you look at it let’s say in a month’s times between regular and premium, how much will it be an extra 50.00 dollars ? You got a nice Lexus that will last for a long time with out issues
Thank you for such a great GX video . I was ready to get a 2023 RX, but after your review on that, I started thinking twice about it. I test drove a GX after your review, and well , I’m getting one ! Waiting for it to arrive in a few weeks! Can’t wait ! I’m looking forward to an iconic drive 😊
We had an RX that was comingg off lease looked at ‘22 but dealer wanted mid 50s’ for a decently equipped one. For a few grand more got into a premium plus GX and aside from the mpg it is superior to the RX. Didn’t care for the FWD bias on the RX. This is an old school truck that will last…

My wife's '09 GX is about to hit 215,000 miles and still drives extremely solid and smooth. It's our favorite car we've ever had.
Mine has 210,000 love it .
195k here.
How much maintenance cost per year ? And what is mpg in city and highway? Since I am also thinking I buy
@@beyondhometownI’m getting 16-17mpg all city and 23mpg on Highway road trip
I've been waiting for this review! I just bought a 2022 and I can't believe how much I'm enjoying driving it. I wasn't convinced I was making the right decision for me but as it turns out it was the best decision I could have made. Just an all around amazing truck.
Do you have a tow hitch on it? Was it factory installed or after market. If after market please share what you put on there. Lexus customer service just called me and told me that was NOT an option for the 2022, but I think he is wrong. Someone set me straight . My dealer can’t find a tow hitch for the 2022, ludicrous!
I agree I brought a 22 GX I came from a Lexus RX and will say this was one of the best decisions!
Hi! The tow hitch is part of the frame on these. I’ll need to look into it if it’s possible to add one
@@Cocora22 I sold my factory hitch. Lexus is not making them anymore for some reason.
👑 the Gx or Lx would be the only vehicle I own to I die. I would love to be buried in either. My chariot to fight the demons after death.
You got very lucky on your GX 460 purchase. The GX 550 is not the same vehicle as the GX 460 unfortunately.
this is the best technical review on UA-cam for Lexus GX for sure 👍
How many mpg does your gx460??? City and highway
I just bought a 2023. Only have 5k miles on it so far, probably not even fully broken in, but on a recent highway trip at 70-75mph I got 21.5 mpg. Around town, probably avg around 16. Happy camper here!
we just got a GX.
i thought your final verdict was in line with our buying experience and thought process
16:25 exactly - for what youre getting, the price of the GX is very very good. ESPECIALLY since cheaper makes/models are forcing you to pay markups now, and a lot of lexus dealerships are still not doing that (ours did not, but i know some are)
16:53 when you sit in it you do actually smile. i test drove an RX 350 before the GX, but only in the GX did i smile
18:04 we did look at the 4runner - shared those two EXACT thoughts compared to the GX - 4Runner felt UNDER POWERED with CHEAPER looking/feeling interior!
I have a 2019. Real world mpg. Is 17-20 depending on driving
I own a 2014 GX460... Had to buy 1 as it was 1 of my Dream vehicles... Thank You for doing this Video... Makes me feel better about my purchase.
2013 GX owner here. Besides the fuel economy, the main drawback to the newer models is the front bumper and the overhang it has.
Did you get bench seats or captains?
@@HKX_ORANGECHICKEN at the time they only had bench seat available so I got bench seat with premium package.
@Mctrician2 It is with 91 octane
I bought a black line in nori green and absolutely love it. I still get tons of recommendations in UA-cam about the GX since I watched hours of content while waiting to take delivery. You are right about the negatives btw. MPG is NOT good, but very nice to drive.
What MPG’s are you getting? I’m interested in getting one
Love your videos AMD
I purchased a 2011 gx460 premium with 205,000 miles
2 years ago, one owner serviced at Lexus all the time until now, drives like new, I do the oil change and brakes, very good truck, best decision so far, wife drives it everyday to go work.
I’m not complaining about gas mileage, I knew that before buying it.

What was the cost?
@@dannycruz2022 About 2200 Canadian dollars.
How much is the part? Im sure you can diy it for alot cheaper
I bought a 23 GX 460 based on your videos. We love our tank. Thank you!
I think we’re going to go for this, especially with the new infotainment system and added Apple Car Play
its worth the upgrade from a 4runner. it's much more powerful, and much more comfortable.
I think the GX460 is way better than a 4 runner you could say it's a Land cruiser Prado with a Lexus badge it's gonna last you pretty long and will also be a Great offroader in all terrains.
Can you put regular gas in it without damaging the engine?
@@Whatsth3ruckus Ahh, you are ok with buying a $63,000 luxury truck, but need to save $300 a year in gas???
Also a nice bonus is you get KDSS on the GX, but can't get it on the Limited 4runner. Hope you're enjoying whichever you got!

Great review, sir!
My wife and I have a 2015 premium GX460 and love it. Yes it gets horrible gas mileage but as you've said this thing is bullet proof.
And the 4Runner
Kindly share which trim and year, thank you.
GX holds its value extremely well. It's also one of the few NA v8 out there
The overwhelming majority of v8's are NA; very few are supercharged and even fewer are turbo- just sayin!
@@sly9263 Which is what you want, it means the engine has no parts that involve high amounts of energy going through small parts.
@@rockwjz yes.. but that wasn't my point. My point is that the OP says its one of the few NA v8 out there when the reality is there's MANY v8s out there and nearly all of them are NA.

@Richard Moreno less clearance than the first gen but better than the latest refresh for sure.
Owned a gx470 and now a gx460 love them both... my dad bought a gx and my brother did as well.
@Richard Moreno, that's not an issue for me as I want a metal front (true) high clearance bumper. But if you want it bone stock, yes, get the 2010.
Got lucky, bought used 2020 GX460 luxury trim with 23500km for 68000$ cad.
Added 50000 km 2 years later. That thing rides so smooth!
That is a am amazing deal
Welcome to the GX 460 fraternity.
AMD you are right, everytime I drive this thing, it brings smile to my face. I have a 15 w/ around 177k miles and this thing is absolutely the beast. I am planning to keep this thing forever.
I'm just as happy with my 2010 Sequoa it a legend as well

Bought a 2023 premium plus… exchanged a ‘22 X5 for it … I won’t look back … I’m 66 and want something to last, normally aspirated V8 truck toughness… yet luxurious… love the ride / feel , …. Great review. Other vehicles: ‘93 Chevy 1 ton crew cab 454…. 90000 mi…. So gas mileage doesn’t matter lol… seriously GX is just right…. Thanks for your expertise!!!
Why did you exchange the X5 for the GX? I'm considering either the X5 or the GX for my next vehicle.
You made the smart decision on your 'forever GX 460'.
I agree with everything you said. As a former owner of 3 4 Runners the last one I sold to my neighbor after 220k miles and now I own a 2016 GX that I use to tow my boat with. Power to tow and looking good while doing it.
Without being smug , exactly . Makes the trip fun
Ur a funny guy, u obviously are in love with the gx460. I have a 2016 gx460 and love it, also i don't care it doesn't have the best MPG . I feel i can tackle the zombie apocalypse in style!
I love this truck. I recently got a 22 4Runner Limited because the GX was out of my budget but I that will be my next vehicle.
We’re on our 2nd GX. There is no substitute.
Hey thanks for an honest review, I'm looking for the right one. I wanna join this cult, mileage is not an issue, it's the quality And superior japanese engineering, truly a vehicle to pass on to the kids

I freakin love these. That rear door is probably one of the coolest features I’ve seen.
It’s a gas guzzler and with premium fuel this will hit your pocket even harder.

Would love to know how you like it compared to the 4R. I'm thinking of making the switch myself.
Love my 2014 GX Premium. I don’t off-road but it’s a great smooth reliable ride
This is such an underrated 4x4
Shhhhhh.....
Amd, Just took delivery of a Nori Green 2023 GX 460. Thank you Sir.
We bought a 22 GX460. Great smooth V8 engine.
I bought a new 2006 GX470, and loved for it 250K miles. We traded it in for a LX570. I will always like the GX's. They are perfect.
I GOT MY NEW 2023 NAURI GREEN LEXUS GX 460 I LOVE THIS COLOR AND LOVE THIS AMAZING TRUCK WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DRIVE AND COMFORT. THANKS, LEXUS
The GX is so good. I think it's the most reliable and capable SUV (like the Land Cruiser). The grille looks great on the GX. It just looks hideous on the Avalon or Corolla.
I think this grille looks better on Lexus crossovers and sedans, but this one looks alright. the rest of this looks awesome though!!
Love my 2018 GX. Rugged, reliable, comfortable.
Bought our 2021 GX460 for road trips to Scottsdale from CDA in North Idaho. Typically get around 22mpg at 80mph. It’s so smooth and quiet…❤❤❤❤
If anyone deserves to own a new Lexus GX460, it is The Car Care Nut!
I love the enthusiasm coming through in this video. Considering buying a 2023 blackline edition. Thanks!
I bought a 2023 GX in late December of 23. So smooth and comfortable. I love this thing! No turbos and no direct injection.
God bless!
Welcome to the CCN community and thanks for sharing your experience. Blessings
Thank you for your service!
That's awesome Chris. Exactly what I would think actually. Not only does it feel like a tank, you confirm that it is!
The car should have a rear wiper :)
Yep, it does, it’s just hidden under the rear spoiler
Any advice as I am considering one soon, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
My wife loves her GX. I’ve been impressed with it too and love the smooth V8. Wished my 2019 4R had the V8 but oh well, make do. If I want my V8 fix, just take the GX out for a drive.
Thank you for this review I just canceled my order for an MDX and now the search is on for the color combination on the 2022GX
I was seriously considering the GX, but ended up getting a 2022 4Runner Limited trim. The $18K higher upfront cost of the GX and premium gas does add up overtime.
Point well made!
What was the The best quote you got for the 2022 GX 460??
It needs premium?
@@LiquidTurbo yes definitely, but when you look at it let’s say in a month’s times between regular and premium, how much will it be an extra 50.00 dollars ? You got a nice Lexus that will last for a long time with out issues
@@rutgershouses premiums gas over a lifetime of this vehicle will be nuts. Do the math for 300,000miles at 18mpg.
Just sold my tundra and out of no where this caught my attention. I can’t wait to own one, off-road style.
Thank you for such a great GX
video .
