I traded in my 2020 GX for the 2022 to get apple car play and the upgraded infotainment. Also, Mark Levinson sound was only available on the Luxury trim, but now an option on the premium trim. This vehicle is just perfect. Yes, mileage could be better, but that’s the trade off. I get 19.8 mpg overall with mostly highway miles. The barn door is cool. Not an issue. Third row is for kids in every car. Touch pad is fine too. It’s not over sensitive, imo. This thing is designed to run for decades without major repairs. That’s a BIG deal. The base off-road package is great for most uses.
I know it's not cool to say nice things about about still having a CD player but if I'm going to spend the money on a Mark Levinson system, I want one. Lexus knows I want a CD player because I'm their target market. I appreciate that. Good review.
Love my 2023 GX! Just made a year with it and have no regrets. It’s not a commuter vehicle for me, so who cares about gas mileage, yeah it’s not great but not horrible either. Great road trip vehicle as well. Smooth luxury at its finest! Thanks for a great video.

I live in that area.. rural (7 acres) but 30 mins from DC and bmore. Mine is a 2021, but damn this is usually the most beautiful car on the road, and usually always the most capable car on the road... stock. You can upgrade if you want serious off-road stuff. But seriously that just means removing running boards and aftermarket front bumper then it can go almost anywhere.. stock. But as is, even premium it is a dream that pushes through 4 ft of snow but floats like a cadillac on the road. Only bad thing is gas mileage, but honestly if you can afford it, who cares... shits sweet
@@jaypikachu6660 Better off with the older 4.6 ported injected MPI V8 everyday and twice on Sundays. I prefer the older design with the smaller grill. Since these are very reliable with the bullet proof 4.6 MPI V8 I would rather spend money on the last year of the older design. That is a 2013. Something with lower miles. As these are good for well over 200K miles. The new MSRP's are too high. I've seen some lower mileage 2012/2013's Around 70K miles for under 30K. I'd go that direction then paying full MSRP price of a new one. Generally by new vehicles but getting an older GX with low mileage is a safe bet. The Japan made truck has legendary reliability.
Just bought my 2023 GX Luxury model and I LOVE it! I am coming off of a Toyota old school SUV and this is a huge step up in luxury and handling! The V8 is super smooth and this promises to be the last year of the old reliable V8. Gas mileage is the same as my old V6 Toyota. I could have waited for the 2024 GX, but this will have a different engine and transmission- so will it be as smooth? No one knows for sure. The new GX will probably be more expensive, have some levels of tweets to be fixed in succeeding years, and it will be back-ordered for USA delivery for about 6 months. I took the plunge to buy the 2023 GX Luxury and I have zero regrets and I will not envy the new 2024 GX either. I have reached a stage in life where I do not care about paying for premium gas and I want to ride in comfort in my 'forever' Lexus GX!
@@JohnJohnCrusher It does look better, but it is WAY bigger, and the fact that you can't get a 3rd row with the off-road features, and you can't option the off-road features (EKDSS, crawl control, etc.) to the non-offroad models that have a 3rd row means the new gen is not an option for us.
Love my 2023 GX and the only major issue is the Mark Levinson audio system, all of friends in which are ten of them have encounter the same issue, if your playing your music on a volume pass 51 on the radio for like after 20min the Audio will shut off. The only way to bring it back is to turn the vehicle completely off and turn it back on, resetting the radio won’t have a fix. I, have taken the GX to 3 different dealership and same issue as well of my friends. Twice I, received a premium loaner and guess what no issue on the loaner!!!!!!
Last I checked, the off road package is only available with the premium model. I think that's 7-8k more plus the 1.5k off road package. I own a pearl white 2023 GX black line edition, installed full RCI skids (engine, transmission, transfer, fuel and diff), Full Amsoil MP undercoat, Ironman foam cell pro 2.5inch lift with Cooper Rugged Trek all terrain tires. I average 14mpg city and can get up to 20 mpg hwy, not bad. Off road and on road, this thing is incredible. Most importantly, this truck has so much character, and I plan to keep it a long long time.
Great video as always. I am a GX 460 owner and I don't think the mpg is that bad at all. My brother has a Ford Explorer that gets pretty much the same mpg and it is trash compared to my GX. Also, I did a DIY third row seat removal and used a kit from GOOSE that replaced the floor where the seats were. I insulated it as well and it works great. I am so glad I did it because it is just the wife and I now that the kiddos have moved out, and the GX 460 is the perfect road trip vehicle.
Well and my 23 Tacoma only gets between 14 and 16 miles per gallon it's just awful with the V6. It will do better but you have to drive 60 mph down hill lol
@@justinstiff5641 Is your Taco lifted and have larger tires? I had the OG Tacoma in 1995 and it was a single cab 2.4L I4 5-speed manual and it was my daily commuter back in the 90s and early 2000s. I loved that but it was absolutely gutless LOL.
No not till the end of June. I've already bought 33 /12.50s on 20 inch rims. Doing a 3-inch spacer lift on the cheep for now so yeah the mileage is about to be even worse lol. I'm pretty sure my gear ratio is a 3.92 for the TRD off-road package which is fairly low geared for the highway
Believe it or not I've owned 6 Toyota celicas from 82 to 85 models both GT and GTS models with that exact same engine and 5-speed that was in your truck
I've had my 2013 for about a year, and absolutely love it. The earlier iterations do have slightly better approach and departure angles. At 160k miles, mine drives like a dream. I do currently have it torn apart for some repairs and maintenance (leaking radiator (very common), and chose to replace the water pump, belt tensioner, and idler pully while I'm in it). If looking at an earlier 460, be sure to check for the intake valley coolant leak, cam tower oil leak, and timing cover oil leak. Mine looks to have recently developed the timing leak, but I can likely monitor it for years before it becomes an issue. When the time comes, it's going to be a costly repair (maybe a bit more than I'm comfortable DIY'ing). My only real complaint is the lack of a transmission dipstick. Some dealers will try to claim the ATF is lifetime, even though the manual gives a service interval for it. Changing it (properly) is a huge pain, and could have been simplified with a damned dipstick.
I just traded in a Rogue for a 2016 with 100k miles. What a machine. Just to be safe, I had a shop put it on a lift and look at everything. They said there was literally nothing wrong with it
Just got our ‘23 this week and LOVE it. I had an Eddie Bauer Expedition for 12 years and used the (pretty good) third row ONCE. Think of the GX as having great storage with an emergency third row. If you really MUST HAVE that many passengers get a van.
@@ajf5745 The comment above said get a minivan if you need a 3rd row. They mentioned minivans, so I said people use full sized SUVs over minivans, these days. So what the heck are you going on about? Read the actual conversation before you comment like a dumb ass lol
@@ajf5745Yes, they WILL, if they are made by Toyota! The GX is nothing special (in the TOYOTA/LEXUS lineup). Yes, while the GX is “old-tech” and has bulletproof reliability (in general), it does have some other problems (like FRAME RUSTING AND ROT - do research on this!), that other Toyota/Lexus don’t have! (for example Lexus RX and Toyota Highlander). There are tons of TOYOTA HIGHLANDERS that have well over 200K miles. I personally know of 1 Toyota Sequoia with close to 500K miles. I also know of 2 people with Toyota Highlanders that have over 300K miles!
A Toyota that has been in production for many years is hard to beat from a longevity standpoint. That's why the 4Runner sells so well. They go forever.
I bought a my gx when we were living on Manhattan, i exclusively street parked and i had no problem with the rear swing door opening. To me it makes more sense its on the side of the driver.
This thing is a beauty. MPG is low, but I like to think we even out as a family with the Model Y my wife drives. 3rd row is electric on mine and it works well for kids. It's a really good feeling when you know that you can go cross country on your car at a moment's notice and not worry if it will make it there (as long as you have enough money for gas). To each it's own, I really like my GX.
I have a 2017. Gas mileage is 15 city 20 highway at around 75. Premium required. Which going in you know this. 6 years of ownership and 75k miles, changed brakes and rotors around 40k miles and OEM Bridgestone to Michelin. Otherwise bulletproof. Few things I’d like changed would be a bigger tank. Range is around 300 miles. 3 blinks on turn signal when you tap it. Otherwise been very satisfied.
It's easy to use the trackpad with your thumb while driving. You can also use the Menu button to quickly get to the main screen without having to touch the display. As far as the third row, you want to access it from the other side instead of the driver's side. The seat slides further, allowing you to climb to the back with more room. If you opt for the Premium Plus or Luxury package, the power folding third row makes it easier to use the seats when needed. We have the right seat in the third row up and the left one down so we can have more storage and an extra seat available for our child.
We’ve had 2 now(traded in the first one just to get 80K less Miles) and we love her! Just an awesome Vehicle. Solid. Capable. Comfortable. Bulletproof. Love. Her.
I purchased a lightly used 2017 GX back in January. It had a perfect Lexus service history, every 5,000 miles! I love everything about this Lexus, EVERYTHING!!! As far as fuel consumption, its on par with, or slightly better than my 2022 Tundra non-turbo. The infotainment system is great, does everything I need. The huge screen in my Tundra is pretty, but not of much use, I have it almost always turned off.
On our third 460 and we love it! It will go down as one of if not the best in it's class and I can see the demand for these late model 460's (2020+) going up in the years to come for those looking to build overland vehicles. I am excited for the next Gen GX and we will likely get one in the years to come but we just might keep the 460 around for our town car because it will literally run forever.
My wife has a 2015, and I loathe that you have to go into the infotainment to do anything, even turning down the A/C fan speed. Nice that they changed that in the newer ones.
Trim the Chin - Cut the Rear - remove the Side Steps and install sliders - put on 4Runner TRD Pro 17inch wheels - 255/75/17 All-Terrains = Good to go 👍
Absolutely love my GX!!! My husband found a custom base model that was used for the PGA in New Orleans and we got an amazing deal 2023 with 300 miles base model with premium features including black on black, 2nd row captains chairs, upgraded rims, sunroof and mark levison for the price of a base model!!!Will drive this forever!!!
I bought a mint condition 2015 model luxury gx with every feature available - offroad crawl, driver safety, some extra under carriage protection. Last summer there were only 2 used ones on Autotrader within a 500 miles of me. I paid a little over 30k with 100k miles. It drives, behaves, and looks nicer today than any vehicle i've owned in my 40 years of driving. Including many teutonic money pits! And gx's are so hush quiet inside. I feel spoiled 😄
I think we need a better definition for what defines a truck besides the frame because by that definition a crown victoria and several other things would be called "trucks."
Love your videos but particularly this one!! It’s a damn bargain and that’s why I’m buying this vehicle in about 2 more months!! I’m so freaking hyped to get one! Thank you so much for a perfect video! I’ve had nothing but problems with my 2015 Silverado so I sold it. I need DEPENDABILITY. This is the ONLY vehicle after a crapload of research that I narrowed down. I decided that this particular vehicle is a perfect choice between pulling my 3900 pound trailer and giving my wife her dream vehicle. The PERFECT comprise! ❤️
Im excited to pick mine up today. Its been a long week. Everyone dislikes the touch pad. Maybe im super lazy, but i still use the touch pad. Im to lazy to reach forward to touch the screen 😂
The single biggest issue with buying a GX for off road is you just bought this nice lexus and now you need to take a Sawzall to the low hanging body work. It's for me, but emotionally, not for everybody.
Correct- a valid point. There are kits for the GX which remove the excesses of the low front-hanging grill and the side boards. But let's face it, 95% of new GX users will NEVER take their luxury GX's off-road, for most this will be a comfortable luxury vehicle and it exceeds in this role.
Have a 2018 GX and my biggest decision will be whether to buy a 2023 GX or the soon to be released 2024 GX.. Leaning towards a 2023 as my last car before I die.. :)
I was in the same decision point, BUT this is the last year of the aspirated V8 and 6 speed transmission. The new GX will have more features and a V6 turbo and 8 or 10 speed trans along with a bunch of electronic stuff. However, one test ride made me a convert to the old reliable GX and every UA-cam video praises the old GX V8 reliability, while the new GX model will be unproved, have a few bugs and will be fully ready in 2 or 3 years of feedback and refinements. Plus, the wait for the new 2024 GX will be 6 months down the road. Buy now, no regrets.
I purchased a brand new 2022 model with the premium plus package with the sport design package back in December of 2021 and me and my entire family love it! The Starfire Pearl is so plush and elegant!
I bought a low mileage 2013 and added Carplay, Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control. It's just about perfect, especially for skinnier back road driving. Pro Tip: Trade out your larger wheels for 17" wheels, the tires are cheaper and it rides better.
The GX460 is an off-tank. It's the Landcruser Prado in the world market. 4runners are GX460s with with features removed. Cut the plastic junk and take it anywhere! ❤
Correct conclusion! THis is not a daily, long-ride vehicle for most people, it is a out & about, luxury ride that is enjoyed by those of a certain age who want to enjoy a comfortable ride and who can afford the premium gas to fill it up.
Australia sells this as a Toyota Landcruiser Prado (baby brother) same body different grill and a 3l desiel engine, and ready for offroading angles ground clearance etc
I’m getting about 18MPG combined with my 23 GX. The actual fuel economy is better than advertised which is rare these days. Also don’t think you can get off-road package on Blackline edition. You have go up to Luxury trim to get that package which is another 10K more. Honestly with GX one doesn’t need the off-road package. With ATrac/Center Diff/4L it can take you anywhere. The ground clearance and approach/departure angles are the only limitation
I don't think I would feel comfortable taking any luxury SUV off road unless I had to. The most I would do is a rut filled muddy parking lot before a hiking or bike trail and parking next to Hondas, Toyotas, or GM sedans/CUVs.
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD My sis-in-law just traded in her Toyota Highlander for a GX460. The Lexus will only see hwy duties and Costco runs for the next +10 years.
Snagged a 2022 GX 460 last year for the wife to drive just because I heard the GX was eventually going to lose the V8. It's been amazing. We love it. She had a CRV which was great, but the Lexus is just so much more comfy and powerful.
Have 2022 Pearl white with the Mark Levinson since April 2022 with 26,000+ and it is the family vehicle now but, primarily the wife's 2001 4 Runner 246,000 4WD replacement. That 4 Runner is now with our 17 year old son. I was not crazy about the GX during the test drive. I hated the "ECO mapped" A/T that short shifts until you get into the throttle. But, have grown to truly enjoy the vehicle and as with the 4 Runner, simply feel at ease with full fait that it will "just work" for many years to come. Personally, I have a 2001 Boxster, 2006 Ram Cummins that I use. I love both and both are reliable. But, both require parts replacements at times due to age/wear of non-"wear" items or items that should last a long time. Porsche's water pump is supposed to be replaced every 30,000 miles because of a plastic impeller for example. The GX is really and yes a second really good at everything it does. It is now the best at anything to my way of thinking except being "bullet proof". It tows well, it off roads well, it has good space, it has good power, and the list goes on. In every segment, I would have preferred a used Range Rover (Full size, not a silly Range Rover offspring) but, the Land Rover will never be "bullet proof".
Not really! The Toyota LANDCRUISER (V8 models sold in the US) are somewhat “collectibles” because of how *FEW* of them were sold in the US. The GX, OTOH, sold in *HUGE* numbers (one of the most popular Lexus models), so there is not going to be any dearth of them in the used car market 🙄 …at least not for the next 10 years or so! Also, the new 2024 GX is still BODY-ON-FRAME. Of course, it does not have the old-school V8.
It's a bit silly to complain about a 21 degree departure angle and a side opening trunk for parallel parking situations; it's kind of talking out of both sides of your mouth. The implementation prioritizes BOTH on-road and off-road benefits while it's critiqued for not being fully committed in both directions. A 21 degree departure angle is more than sufficient for non-extreme offroading while the lower front valance that reduces that angle helps with aero/MPG on the highway. The side opening trunk is an off-road feature that gives access to the roof while standing on the rear bumper; you don't get that with a top opening hatch and otherwise need to install a ladder for the same access. Also as already indicated, the rear glass opens so the side opening trunk isn't that big of an issue for parallel parking anyway.
The side folding rear door on this and what is sold as Land Cruiser here in Europe, is something i don't understand that they keep: The reason for side folding backdoors were the mounted spare wheels on the door. And Toyota/Lexus has moved the spare wheel under the rear end of the truck and there's no factory way of mounting it to the backdoor. So why not make it swing up then? And as i encountered such a siefolding door has another disadvantage: imagine two people carrying something large and trying to put it into the storage area of the car/truck. With normal up swinging doors you can be on each side while lifting it in. With a sidefolding door that doesn't open more than 90° you can't. (On the positive: a fork lift can drive closer than with an up folding dor.)
Completely agreed with U!, With all honesty no real midsize suv can ever compete with gx460 or 4Runner!!, These 2 suvs can really do it all for 10 years with no sneeze!
The only reason why I'd buy this over any other SUV is because of the 4*4 system and RELIABILITY thats it. Other SUVs are better in every way, we talking about safety, performance dynamics, efficiency, power, speed, technology,Multiple engines, flat cornering ability etc....Buut they will all stay behind in terms of reliability as they age. Also if you're on budget these are easy to get plus they still run like champs with close to 200k miles. Also the kind of people that have lots of money and switch cars a lot, this is less likely to be on the menu. Wonderful car alongside the LX570. These things will always be there for you, Just regular maintenance thats it. I know its toyota/lexus but buying a used one, always get it checked because people abuse cars.
You are funny but sometimes lazy. Access to the 3rd row in the GX is from the passenger side rear door, not driver side rear door. Try that sometimes. or read the owners manual.
Mpg is just the same with the 2024 gx,... even the tundra turbo gets 16mpg..... the only thing here is no worries about turbos cause its natural engine.... 300hp is good enough.....
You are just another guy who does NOT get this vehicle! You don't even know how the 3rd row seats are accessed! Stop conveying WRONG INFORMATION. YOU STOOD ON THE WRONG SIDE AND TRIED TO GRAB THE SEAT! The 3rd row is accessed from the rear door AND the right rear door on Passenger side NOT on driver side. So many of you out there not knowing the GX. What you are showing is a blackline edition. You mentioned Mark Levinson. ML is NOT included or an option on the blackline. The numbers you read are wrong too! Try finding this "PRIMITIVE TRUCK" for the price you quoted. Its a shame you all review a unique vehicle like the GX and don't know it well. That said I do agree on the reliability piece. And yes it's a tank! I request that you do good research on behicles and then speak about them. Thank you!
The only reason I don't own a 460 is simply I have a motorcycle so I chose 2023 Tacoma TRD off road. I haul my z900rs around the country travelling for work otherwise coming from a Yukon Denali XL I really wanted a GX 460. Great video thanks
Just traded my 2021 4Runner Limited Nightshade another last of a legend. Love my GX so happy I finally pulled the trigger. Anyone on the fence - do it. You will not regret it.
You made the right decision and do not regret buying the 2023 vice the new to be announced 2024. The V8 will be gone for sure! My GX rides like a limo, love it every time I get into it!
Nice review. Thanks for posting. Love my 19. Beautiful...Solid...Smooth...Quiet....Best in class reliability...Made in Japan...and an Excellent V8. What's not to Love about this thing. And will last Three times longer then Anything else on the road.
some long term issue the GX460 will have are like radiator leak around 80k miles. Coolant valley plate leak around 120k mile. Timing cover leak around 70k miles. Other than those it's a great truck
The GX 460 with a V8 engine will be a gem and most sought after years from now. The smoothness, refinement and reliability can’t be compared to newer generation of Lexus engine.
So I’m in the market. And now I’m thinking a certified pre owned 460 with 12k miles. vs a new 550 or new Land Cruiser. Seems like it’s the last opportunity to get the bullet proof reliability… thoughts?
In most parts of the world, this car is known as the Land Cruiser Prado, and they are everywhere. They are everywhere bc they can go anywhere and bulletproof. If you go to Africa, Asia, Australia, India, South America....this car is legendary and a best seller for many many years. You dont see any Land Rovers, Jeeps, Fords. You see TOYOTA LAND CRUISERS everywhere bc they are absolutely bulletproof!
I'm a big fan of Nori Green. I saw it on a Camry which was a special color on it at one time. I always thought that Toyota should dip into the Lexus pallet with their "special" editions. Lexus has some really good colors in their catalog. Nori green is among their best IMO.
Great review. And I thought the same thing about the tailgate even before you mentioned that. I understand why a Toyota product might have it that way, but I've also noticed that the Jeep Wrangler opens from the left as well. I would find that particularly annoying for the same reason you mentioned.
Good video I always appreciate your take on things. Now on a personal note, please leave the sugar alone you’re going to be dead by your 50s get this book “Fat Heals Sugar Kills” and read it. We wan’t you around doing videos. This book helped me.
I owned a 2008 model for a little four years but traded it in yesterday for an RX 350. I only have good things to say about GX, but if I went back in time, I would probably haven’t bought it. Buy it if you take it offroad or love heavy vehicles with a heft to them. This vehicle is a tank on wheel but drives like butter. It is something you want to have if Armageddon comes, but it wasn’t the right vehicle for me. I just didn’t care for how heavy it was, poor gas consumption, or all the extra features I paid for that I never used.
"Entry level" options for a GX isn't relevant like it is for most vehicles. What most other vehicles require top end trims for, the GX comes with as standard or as a cheap, minor option that they automatically put on 95% of all vehicles anyway. Heated/ventilated seats, LEDs and multi zone climate control is like 1 grand over base price. What you get in the "luxury" top trim of the GX is basically irrelevant- automatic folding 3rd row seats (which will be down for 95% of owners anyway), rear air suspension, and semi aniline leather. There is no noticeable ride quality difference across the board. The GX is one of a few vehicles where the top trim really offers nothing of value for even those who typically go for all the bells and whistles.
I have a 2018 GX 460 that i bought brand new. The new infotainment screen/climate controls is what I wanted on my 2018 model. I think it's sad that Lexus lags behind in adding features to this model line. I get the fact it was selling well for them and so they don't feel the need to update it. I don't think I will buy another because I really wanted a pickup truck, but my timing was bad for options back in 2018. Also, I don't enjoy going to the gas station to fill up because you need to use 93 octane gas. I wish Toyota/Lexus would make a pickup for the Lexus line based on their Hilux line. I would be more incline to buy it than a GX 460 the next time I'm in the market for a new vehicle. Hopefully that won't be until at least 2028 model year or later.
I do wish they would have gone more down the design path of the LC Prado Kakadu to get better off-roading angles from the factory, but let's be honest: no new Lexus buyer is going off road in these - that's for the second or third owner to do. I also much prefer the removable third row seats of the GX 470 as while they are equally useless, you can remove them completely and get a lower loading floor in return.
This and the 4 runner are the last real Toyota's. And they are both going away. Seriously thinking of picking up a GX 460 but in my heart I really want the overseas Prado version with the D4D diesel. Either way, I just can't get myself to take that much money out of my retirement. If I could get the diesel without that ugly grill I"d probably spend stupid money for it. But even the Prado's front end took a dump for the worst. Seriously considering just buying a 1997 JDM Prado import. Japan has many low mileage examples in great shape. Because the bottom line is that Toyota's best land cruisers are NOT made here.
I bit the bullet and laid out the cash since I cannot take any of my money into the grave with me and this is the last year of theOld V8 GX! Get one while you can!

Only bad thing is gas mileage, but honestly if you can afford it, who cares... shits sweet
I live in a city and the roads are so bad and there are so many speed bumps that I determined an offroad vehicle made the most sense.
Yup... they're reviewing the Lexus GX again. That means the new one is right around the corner.
Yes and certainly with the twin turbo V6
Yes, GX550 will come the end of this year but $80k-90k Lol
Lexus teased the new GX last week. So it’s absolutely coming for 2024.
@mohamedalihebboul2214 u don't think they'll take the 4 cyl turbo hybrid from the upcoming taco?
2024 looks waay better
@@JohnJohnCrusher It does look better, but it is WAY bigger, and the fact that you can't get a 3rd row with the off-road features, and you can't option the off-road features (EKDSS, crawl control, etc.) to the non-offroad models that have a 3rd row means the new gen is not an option for us.
Your 4.6 will be much happier with premium fuel. Better mileage and power and quieter.
U r in right place I have almost 200 k miles still ride like day one with lot of modifications to it, surprisingly amazing suv
Agreed, if I'm in the market for a $60-$70k vehicle, mpg would be my least concern, let alone a body on frame family SUV.
You must be ancient. Nobody drives vans anymore 😂. In 2023 we do full-size SUVs for usable 3rd row
@@lunamaria1048 and those won't last over 200k miles like this will. It probably will still be working after 30 years
@@ajf5745 The comment above said get a minivan if you need a 3rd row. They mentioned minivans, so I said people use full sized SUVs over minivans, these days. So what the heck are you going on about? Read the actual conversation before you comment like a dumb ass lol
Yep! Great old tech vehicle, rides like an old time limousine too!
We’ve had 2 now(traded in the first one just to get 80K less
Miles) and we love her! Just an awesome Vehicle. Solid. Capable. Comfortable. Bulletproof. Love. Her.
The sensitivity of the touch pad is adjustable. I like the pad. My arm and hand fall there more comfortably then holding it up to the touch screen.
I did the same 2017 sport package with captains chairs. Love it.
How did you get a 2022 Tundra that doesn't have a turbo?
@@DWRECKED91 lol was thinking the same thing 😂
@@SimplyCarReviews if this person got hybrid and turbo mixed up, I'll be pretty concerned
@@DWRECKED91 Was June, no hybrids yet, All along I meant hybrid....
I also bought a 2013 for about the same price. Have been driving it for the last 35 years still runs like new
@@automatedcomment the last 35 years?! Maybe 3.5 years? If mine last 35 it will outlive me 😄
I think we need a better definition for what defines a truck besides the frame because by that definition a crown victoria and several other things would be called "trucks."
I have 2800 miles on my new GX I fill up every week and I don’t feel the gas mileage is as bad as some people say.
I want one of these in a few years when used ones pop up in the used market
Have a 2018 GX and my biggest decision will be whether to buy a 2023 GX or the soon to be released 2024 GX.. Leaning towards a 2023 as my last car before I die.. :)
The ‘23 will certainly last longer
Preach on, bro
Yes- you can do that if you want to do serious off-roading.
Toyota could have maintained the spindle styling but improved the approach angle. Kind of a shame.
A number of videos are out there showing the GX on some damn rough terrain, so I’m not worried at all about some moderate off-roaring.
Love our GX460..... Did not buy it for the third row or gas mileage. 💪
Don't forget the KDSS.
I’d rather have ATRAC than Crawl Control or Terrain Select, it works awesome
Same thing here on gas mileage 18-20 or plus 3mpgs vs my LX 570 with 33" ATs. Absolutely love the GX after owning multiple 4Runners and LCs.
Just bought a 23 premium. Itll hold its value well especially when the next gen comes out with a hybrid 4 cyl.
V6
@@TheWinwin4all you could be right, but I think it's gonna take the 4 cyl out of the taco, not the v6 out of the lx600.

@MrTeslaX you're right and the hybrid is going to be released next year with the same engine as the LC
Did you forget you can open the back glass and pass things through when the door is between you and the sidewalk?😂
I don't think I would feel comfortable taking any luxury SUV off road unless I had to. The most I would do is a rut filled muddy parking lot before a hiking or bike trail and parking next to Hondas, Toyotas, or GM sedans/CUVs.
oh really? 😅 we bought ours brand new and drove it straight offroad and haven't stopped yet
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD My sis-in-law just traded in her Toyota Highlander for a GX460. The Lexus will only see hwy duties and Costco runs for the next +10 years.
These are only getting more popular as the used samples are getting cheaper. You will these rigs on the road for the next 10-15 years
Still see GX470s out and about. Crazy build quality.
What a great deal. Especially these days when everything is crazy expensive
I have the captain chairs for the mid-row. Only kids ride in the back. We love it!
I'm keeping my 2021 forever!
Get them while you can since this is a future collectible because of the box frame and V8 engine.
The side folding rear door on this and what is sold as Land Cruiser here in Europe, is something i don't understand that they keep:
The reason for side folding backdoors were the mounted spare wheels on the door.
The price of 62K is actually reasonable for what you get. Especially considering it could last for 20 years easily.
You are funny but sometimes lazy. Access to the 3rd row in the GX is from the passenger side rear door, not driver side rear door. Try that sometimes. or read the owners manual.
Bwahaha
Mpg is just the same with the 2024 gx,... even the tundra turbo gets 16mpg..... the only thing here is no worries about turbos cause its natural engine.... 300hp is good enough.....
I liked the old GX470 better. Easier to modify for offroading...
GX 470 also had a _QUIETER, MORE REFINED, SMOOTHER V8_ engine, than the 4.6 V8 in the 460!
Good, fair review. I disagree about the touchpad, but otherwise you're right on.
Thank you!
Nice to see you in front of the camera again Nathan🤟

some long term issue the GX460 will have are like radiator leak around 80k miles. Coolant valley plate leak around 120k mile. Timing cover leak around 70k miles. Other than those it's a great truck
I was hoping you would of gotten more into all it’s bells and whistles. Great review none the less.
The GX 460 with a V8 engine will be a gem and most sought after years from now. The smoothness, refinement and reliability can’t be compared to newer generation of Lexus engine.
Glad it has a GRILL!!
@Ronn58 me too. Loving it! Just hit a year this month on the 13th with only 7500 miles.
So I’m in the market. And now I’m thinking a certified pre owned 460 with 12k miles. vs a new 550 or new Land Cruiser. Seems like it’s the last opportunity to get the bullet proof reliability… thoughts?

I see Nathan has been using keeps!
My GX 3rd row is powered. No trouble at all to use. I know. I put it down with the button when I bought it and it's still down.

I don't care about the mpg's I want one 😁
Yes it's a Tank, very reliable SUV
I’m a V8 lover on new suv. I grew up with dozens of V8 and full-size cars I was a kid. Older V-8 or not fuel efficient. Newer V8 are fuel efficient
They should have made the third row seats an option
I do wish they would have gone more down the design path of the LC Prado Kakadu to get better off-roading angles from the factory, but let's be honest: no new Lexus buyer is going off road in these - that's for the second or third owner to do. I also much prefer the removable third row seats of the GX 470 as while they are equally useless, you can remove them completely and get a lower loading floor in return.
Anyone know if you can still get an off-road package for a 2013 - 15 from the dealer? I’m looking to get one but finding on with crawl is pretty hard.
Looks like our Aussie prado.
Awesome!
My Tacoma with a V-6 only got 18mpg without nearly the power. So I guess the 4.6 does ok.
Get the power third row seat.
I'm waiting for the GX550. Hopefully the dealers don't jackup (Markup) the price.
Love my 2018, I'm fine without the extra googahs and flashy grill. These aren't enough nicer to pay the premium for an upgrade.
Is this the same as the Prado or Landcruiser?
Yes - it is basically a luxury version of the prado.
