After watching about two dozen videos, your video is the first that 1.) doesn't spend a lot of time talking about stuff that isn't relevant to the video and 2.) explains why you're overlapping, nailing, etc the way that you are. This is the closest I've gotten to having a dad or uncle come over and teach me how to fix my roof, and I want to thank you for that. I actually think I can make a roof repair after watching all of your videos.
Thank you so much for your videos! We are doing our roof ourselves because the last company that did it, installed new shingles over old shingles (with tar paper underlayment). So to quote an old saying "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself." And your videos and knowledge are CRUCIAL for this job, THANK YOU! We are in Rocky Mount, NC.
As a home inspector I enjoy your videos and pride in workmanship. I will certainly be recommending you to any of my clients needing roof repairs or replacement
Great video! Is Ice and Watershield required in addition to underlayment? I live in Florida. So leaning towards not buying ice and Watershield in addition to the synthetic underlayment?
Hi. I'm about to roof a shed, and your videos have been amazing. What are these fasteners you're using for the underlayment? Another video I watched just used a staple gun. Thanks!
I just scanned it but didn't see how you handle combustion and plumbing vents. Some synthetic recommends wrapping the underlayment around and over the edges of the roof panels about a half-inch shy of the bottom of the vertical flange of the drip edge. That way the absorbent edges of the sheathing is covered.
Thanks a million for your great tutorial. I am beginning my roofing problem with a replacement of a swamp cooler roof jack. Do you recommend any sealant product? Thank you again for your great lessons.
Great video. Quick question, where the underlayment overlaps either on the side or top; Can you just nail them at the same time rather than nail them individually? Thanks
Awesome videos. I'm going to use Titanium UDL 50 for underlayment and and Weatherlock Flex Ice and Water Shield, both my Owens Corning. What length of nail do you use for underlayment? I'm in Hemet in Southern California.
I would go 5/8 or 3/4. I like going the minimum length. Once you install your shingles it no longer matters cause the shingles hold down the underlayment.
@@RoofRepairSpecialist Thank you very much for the reply. I'm going to do a repatch of my clay tile roof. I went with the Titanium UDL 50 because it says it works well with tile. My house is well ventilated and built in 1991 and it wasn't a track home.....I should have "no breathing issues" with the Titanium UDL 50 you think?......And last question: What size of nail would you use for nailing the clay tiles? ....Thank you again for your information and time.

@@RoofRepairSpecialist Thanks a lot, could you explain shortly, what is the difference if an underlayment is athered or not while they both are waterproof ?
I had like 3 leaks after dry in, is this OK? We had rain so I was unable to place the shingles. It looks like all the leaks are where the osb boards gaps are. Also the leaks were small.
Leaks are usually not fine. You should find out what you did wrong. It might have been the wind lifting up the underlayment. Leaking between OSB is normal. Water finds the easiest route to escape.
Hello my name is Stacey and reaching out to another that can help my family when had are roof done by a company but unfortunately they didn't do there job the right way so we just need to friendly advice on what to do and we did reach out to the California license board but it seems like they are no in are best interested.i just a special company that would be willing to come out and give us help .
Thank you for watching! Let me know if there's any part of the underlayment installation process that we didn't cover👇
Such a time saving cool tool, do you have a link for that magnetic nail cap hammer?

Thanks for all these roofing tutorial videos, simple and to the point.
You are welcome!
I love how the one worker is so fast at nailing the underlayment. He's muy professional.
They are amazing. Muscle memory.
Underrated UA-cam roofing channel. So close to monetization though, just a few more subscribers left 👍
Working on it!
The synthetic underlayment is so good! way better than Felt/Tar Paper.
Agreed!

Its the little things that make all the difference.

No Problem
Is staples ok? My roof had staples and store sold me staples

I don’t think it is very critical, if water gets there you’re going to have a leak regardless.
What kind of hammer is used for the nail caps?

Most roofing supplies will have a similar hatchet

Glad it was helpful. You can watch my video on roof jacks/ pipe boots. If done properly the sealant used is not that important.

Can you use the nails with out the plastic just regular 1 1/4” nails will work
I haven’t tried but I think it will rip out very easily. I think there is no reason to try
overlap or underlap the other side of incoming corner
Yes
What kind of hammer is he using with those cap nails? I need one!!!
I should probably start selling them lol, I get asked the same question allot.

Can I used this with the roll instead of shingles
Not sure I understand. Do you want to use this instead of shingles? that wont work.
@@RoofRepairSpecialist I figured it out. I understand now. Thank you so much for your video!
At the eaves when nailing the underlayment, do you drive cap nails through the drip edge or stay above it?
We dont nail through the drip edge. No need to. The starter strip and shingles will hold the edge down
Does this underlayment work for Tile Roof as well?
It probably does work, but it is not made for it. I have other videos you can check out on Tile Roofs.
Are these underlayments reliable and waterproof under decorative facade metal sheets that allow the water to come under ?
I would probably go with a self adhered underlayment if you expect water to get on it. Something like a polystick MTS plus

How do you start installing a second layer of shingle over an existing one?
Do you mean installing a new roof on top of an existing roof?
@@RoofRepairSpecialist installing shingles over existing shingles?
You start by tearing off the existing layer of shingles.
We dont do that here
Where did u buy that Magnet hammer at

@@RoofRepairSpecialist It is unavailable now. Is there another one like this? It seems hard to find a magnetic roofing hatchet.
