Maybe this was mentioned in the comments,I don't know, but I will pass it on anyway. At 35:00 you have a tip in order to avoid the ladder from damaging the shingles/drip edge. If you additionally add another piece of 2x4 of a length that fits between the ladder rails, the ladder will not slide left or right and makes it much more stable to that type of instability in addition to protecting the shingles.

I listened intensely to the video and hope I didn't miss it if you said it, but I never heard what the overall dimensions of the roof is that you worked on. I think you said you bought 25 squares of shingles and to buy 10% extra for waste. I am thinking that 25 squares covers 2500 square foot minus 10% would come out to 2250 square foot of roof. Is that correct or am I missing something in my calculations? Could you please let me know what the dimensions are? I would appreciate it. Thank you for putting together such fantastic videos. I am a new subscriber but already a huge fan of your work.
The roof required 22 squares with no waste and I ordered 25 squares including waste. The roof is 2,200 sq ft. I did have a few bundles left. You are welcome for the video. I appreciate you subscribing!
Why did you not install the ice and water shield on the entire roof and just the one line at the bottom of the roof? Unless I missed something- it looks like you only did that one line toward the bottom before you showed us the drip line installation and then installed the rest of the shingles directly overtop the synthetic paper…
This has really helped me. I'm still not sure what I do when I get to where I have my fall protection bracket installed. Do I just take my chances or is there a good way to handle that transition?

First video I’ve seen on this channel. This gentleman is an excellent teacher. The best teachers can share wisdom from experience that just makes things easier; which he does. Some things are common sense but still should be taught like how to put nails in your pouch, long chalk lines sag and don’t get your glue strips covered in gravel… these rules you often don’t know until you’ve experienced the resulting headache that follows. Good work, sir. I appreciate the detailed video.

Awesome, Josh, I have to replace 2 sheets of OSB on my patio roof, the previous owner didn't flash the end and now the edge boards soaked up rainwater. Need to replace about 16' across and 5' up the shingles and tar paper.

Hey, since you put the drip edge against the subfascia, what are the options to finish the fascia? Aluminum flashing that also gets tucked behind the drip edge or something similar I’d assume because actual fascia board would end up getting water behind it because the drip edge placement? Using your videos I recently was able to repair rotted fascia and soffit on my grandma’s house for under $200 doing it myself! Your content is invaluable!
In order to finish the facia, I got to put aluminum facia up under the lip of the drip edge. That will keep it watertight, and it looks good. I’m glad I was able to save you a lot of money and help your grandmas house out! Thanks a lot!
Hello, i am roofer and just would like to ask. A lot (Really a lot) of companies usually put bottom line of starter under the side line (in bottom corners of the roof) for beter waterproof. Even through that fact that water usually doesn't go there. Just want to ask your opinion, does it really make a difference?
Hey josh . my name is joshua the only I seen is you don't want the drip edge tight to sub fascia you a slight drip gap . but been following you since beginning and learnd alot
The drip edge is very flexible, and the aluminum facia will slide right up under the lip, even if it looks tight on the video. Thanks for following! I hope that helps!
I made it to 14:07 before I gave up... but ONLY because it wasn't what I needed. Which was a true instructional video to lay out a 10ac pasture with dead square lines and corners. I draw that line between information I can get from just buying one and looking it over myself, versus watching someone with experience and expertise evaluating a product and/or kit with the eye of an expert - with explanation for any features that causes you to "like" or "dislike", why, and what is standard or typical on that type and grade of product. Anyway - 1-3:10 stars as instructional material, 9:10 stars as an unboxing/first impressions video!!
Question for anyone who can answer.I'm building a garage for the majority, on my own. I installed the drip edge and ice&water barrier. It was a quite windy day and managing 10 foot pieces of drip edge was challenging. After all was said and done, I noticed a bit of a belly in the middle of it. eave ends stuck out from the sub-fascia at one distance and the middle of the 34 feet run it was probably 1/2-5/8 further. How should I go about running my shingles now? Thanks

I am watching bc I will be doing an over hang section of my roof and I’m trying to learn but I thought the drip edge was supposed to be 1/4”-1/2” off of the feisha board? I’m sure I butchered the spelling of that

Top notch educational video. I wish I would have watched this before starting my garage roof 😅
Very good video and you use a plywood to cut the shingles because a lot people cut the shingles over to the paper
Thanks a lot! It is always best to not cut the paper if you can avoid it. I hope that helps!

My patio has 2 layers of shingles so that's why I'm taking off 5' up and all the way across. Can't just do a simple patch.
After you complete the first 5 rows. Do you cut the pieces like you did before?
Yes, it’s the same pattern over and over again until you get to the peak. I hope that helps!
Question: why do you overlap your eave starter strip over your gable starter strip?
Great video!
I wonder about the safety line for the harness at 18:01

What’s the average profit margin for roofing companies? Would it be worth it to install it yourself?
Newb here who recently redid their garage roof, but I thought the drip edge wasn’t supposed to go directly against the fascia?
That drip-edge should go over the fascia, not sub-fascia, and nails only on top?
Is there a need to use wooden shingle molding if you use metal dip edge?
Doesn't the starter you laid up the rake make up for the stacking of starter and shingle seems?
What size staples and nails do you recommend for 3/4" boards with first layer of shingles and synthetic underlayment?

It is very satisfying to get that rhythm down that you are talking about. It is definitely a good work out as well! Thanks a lot for watching!
Thanks, Josh, for your informative video. It was very helpful. Thanks also for the tips on suiting up the fall-arrest system. It's a rarity for roofing videos; but, given the amount of deaths each year from workers falling from heights, it is much needed. Mike Pereira, Toronto, ON, Canada.
Never miss a moment of your vids 🎉, in a vally what layers of materials is best to install in the valley, is it the same ice & water shield🛡
Great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I will do my own roof and save a ton of money.
Thank you for this video
I am watching bc I will be doing an over hang section of my roof and I’m trying to learn but I thought the drip edge was supposed to be 1/4”-1/2” off of the feisha board? I’m sure I butchered the spelling of that
So after the 1st 5 rows of shingles, you went ahead and cut 10 3/8” & 16 3/8” again for the next 5 rows? Or just laid them out in full?
