    What about sticking the cut edge down with a bit of mastic or tar? Being careful to NOT make a dam that would divert water further under the roof. I'm in Florida, need everything as windproof as possible!

      Probably not a bad idea. I would still use Ice and water shield I think that'll be most important. Try to find someone local to get advice.

      Yes, good idea, in Florida I would use two screws too, galvanized, Above corner area where you got mastic under, half ping-pong, but two inches in from diameter, center.
      Also, I would use mastic cement around pipe upper area even under ice shield too and on top of every nails left and right of pipe a foot area at least.

    Which kind of silicone or seal do you recommend to use when the shingles meet the wall ? Thank you

    So what happens when you install that on a seam and the tar line seals to the bottom of the boot causing tension water to back up during a soaking rain and leak behind the underlying seam shingle 😮

    Perfect presentation! Do roofers need to prepare a "cut board" to cut the shingles which need to be cut to prevent hurt another shingles already put on roof on the high slope roofing replacement?

    • @RoofRepairSpecialist
      @RoofRepairSpecialist  Рік тому +1

      I dont think so, usually a scrap piece of shingle or a scrap piece of wood will do the trick.

    for the vent you used mastic on top and bottom of the flashing for this you recommend ice/water....are they both acceptable forms?

    • @RoofRepairSpecialist
      @RoofRepairSpecialist  10 місяців тому

      Both are definitely acceptable. I prefer ice and water shield but both work

    How is it done with an existing roof, I'm installing a furnace in my garage, and i have to install flashing for a 6" pipe. Its an older roof, not sure whats under shingles. Is there a certain way to install the flashing on to an existing roof. Do you have a video on that. Looked beautiful what you guy's did but im not a roofer. Thank you for your help

    • @RoofRepairSpecialist
      @RoofRepairSpecialist  11 місяців тому +1

      I need to make a video on that. But concept is pretty h the same. You just need to remove the flashing first

    i think you should cut that felt and adhere the ice and water directly to the roof deck to stick better

    • @RoofRepairSpecialist
      @RoofRepairSpecialist  Рік тому +1

      That is a good idea. Never thought about that!

      No point, especially with synthetic, one hot summer will melt the ice and water base into the underlayment and directly onto roof. Test it yourself. Build a dog house and tear it off 6mo later

      @Roof Repair Specialist understandable...roofing in NE Ohio has given me that experience I suppose. The ice guard you put over the pipe flange was awesome....the thing is: ice can expand up under the shingles, keep expanding and eventually break the seal and then you have shingle blow offs once a decent wind comes through. Take care
