Very thorough review, thanks! Answered my questions except about durability, which you explained. I didn't like the feel of the one ply Remo silent strike heads. Too flimsy and bouncy. Like the feel of the Roland 2 plies, but I think I'll try these, so thanks!
Thanks for this great review. I just bought a Sparedrum snare head from La Baguetterie in France. I really like it - it feels and rebounds like a real drum head, triggers really well, and is very quiet (the 'buzz' is minor). I'm surprised Sparedrum is not talked about more! I found most high quality 3-ply mesh heads were too expensive to buy and ship from the U.S. (e.g. Billy Blast, UFO, Extreme Drums), or Europe/UK (e.g. DrumTec, Jobeky). But because Sparedrum is so low cost, it was the most affordable option, even with shipping included. It is unfortunate that no retailer in North America carries Sparedrum, even though they're made in Taiwan. Note, I previously tried RTOM LV mesh heads (ordered from the U.S.) on my snare and kick drum. Some reviews said they had good feel, however they are designed to give you some 'tone' when practicing and I found them too loud. I now have an Evans dB Zero on my kick and Sparedrum on snare.

Maybe a good comparison would be the Jobeky 3 ply. They sell two versions of those
I have the Jobeky 'prestige' 3 ply, and the feel/rebound is much better than Roland powerply, or than the alesis strike ones.
I have never tried drumtec heads
Next time I'm in the market for another mesh head I'll see about picking one up. It might end up sooner than I thought, the Alesis drum I put one of my old Roland heads on seems to have bent the hoop of the head...

Hello Luke, thank you for this review, Did you tried the real feel on Roland pads, especially Toms (I have PDA100L and PDA120L) and I would like to upgrade them with 3 ply mesh heads, do you recommand it ? Maybe I''ll just need to increase sensitivity on my TD-27 ?
Hey! I don't have any experience with those pads. I only own a couple of Roland drum pads, pretty much only PDX-8 pads and the digital snare. But Real Feel heads do work great on the digital snare for me. My guess would be that they'd work fine, but it is just a guess since I've not tried it on the pads you mention.

KZs are very good for money. I only have the ZS3 but I like them and only paid about $15. Do mesh heads stretch or wear out assuming no stick tears? My Roland heads are ancient but still going strong. I use nylon tips also.
I've not tried the ZS3 but for that price it sounds like you can't go wrong! No, I've only ever had to replace mesh because of damage or because I fancied a change - they don't typically wear out unless you get a tear, use a felt kick drum beater directly on the mesh or damage the hoop somehow!

Drum tec pro would be a good option for a practice drumset with Low Volume cymbals? Or even to loud for L80s?
Those drumtec Heads are expensive: but so are mylar Heads. And the Mesh Heads last a Lot longer!

It's hard to say as I don't know how loud they would be on the drums you intend to put them on (can depend on the materials etc) and how loud is "acceptable" in your situation. They're definitely significantly louder than any other mesh I've tried, but I've only used one on my kick drum pad, no others, so I'm not really in the best position to judge. At a guess, I'd say if you can tolerate your kit being at least twice as loud as other mesh heads (Roland etc) then the Pros might be ok for you, but if you're not sure, it's difficult to say yes!
Sounds Like A Drum did an episode where they ran 7 mil resos under mesh - but his mesh heads looked like Pearl - single ply, coarse weave. I'm definitely interested in these - or even just sewing a closed weave cloth head. On a pancake depth drum, a closed weave mesh over very low mass resos might just be the ticket for 'a little bit of drum like noise' at apartment levels.

Hello, Thank you for your in depth review of the sparedrum mesh heads. I am in the middle of building my A to E kit and I live in America. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a retailor that sells these heads to the US market. I used your link you provided for the woodbrass US site, but when I went to check out it displays this message, "Oops there is no shipping available to the selected country". Can you help me, im trying to purchase these but i keep running into barriers, any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much.
Hey! Ahh no, that's a shame! I'm not really sure what other suppliers there are for these heads - I'd only seen them on Woodbrass and Bax-Music before now. It appears SpareDrum have their own website but I'm not 100% sure if they sell directly to customers or just suppliers. It seems you'd have to make an account before ordering and they'd review it. I'd maybe reach out to them through their website, or maybe Woodbrass customer service to see if they could help, as I only know of those places.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop Thank you for your reply. I appreciate all of your help. I did go to their website, and it's really strange the way they are setting everything up. First it requires you to create an account before you can add anything to your cart. Then, after they verify your account, you have to add items to the cart. Then once everything is added, you have to "confirm" everything you want to purchase. Afterwards they send you a email totaling the price plus shipping. I'm still waiting for them to send me that email. I'll let you know how everything turns out, thanks.
You're welcome! Ahh ok. I've seen some other companies that operate a similar way with their order process and it also happened to be a supplier that usually deals with businesses rather than direct to customers. I think they might have to do it this way as there's distribution deals in place with companies for certain countries so they'll probably need to check the order isn't going somewhere that breaches those contracts or some other trivial bureaucracy like that. So rather than having a proper e-commerce platform, they deal in invoices and what not. Whatever the reason, hope it pans out!
@@TheeDrumWorkshop Success!! So they contacted me, and apparently they work with a company in Europe called VBV international. So VBV sent me an invoice, and I paid it. And Sparedrum said that they are shipping my order from VBV in Europe this Friday. So I really want to say thank you for your content. Your information has been crucial in my pending decision's on which heads to get. It was a bit frustrating, because, between Drumtec, GOedrum, Prism, Billy Blast, Jobecky, and UFO, all of these mesh heads, it gets a bit confusing which direction to move on to, based upon feel and price. And it's not like we can try them out and decide which one is right. Keep the content coming brother, I'll let you know when I've completed my ekit conversion and I'll show you how it turns out.

In terms of Mylar playing feel, how does the Roland PD140DS 3ply Mesh compete against the DrumTec thick 1ply mesh head?
I've only tried a drum-tec Pro head (the thick single ply) on my kick drum, so I couldn't say unfortunately! I'd like to pick up more at some point to try out on my other pads but it's not a priority budget-wise at the moment!

I did an A to E conversion and the 2 ply mesh heads all buzz when struck. I converted a Yamaha Stage Custom set and have Roland PowerPly heads on all drums. Is there a way to alleviate the buzz? Any tips?
I saw someone saying they had success dampening their buzz by putting a piece of moongel/drum honey on the head (somewhere out of the way like you would on an acoustic head, I imagine). Suppose that's worth a try if you have anything like that lying around! I've not really had to try and get rid of it myself as I've not found it intrusive enough but I may have to experiment if I get chance!

So interesting, I’m looking for drumtec alternative since it’s quite expensinve and shipping cost also my biggest problem.
But is that mesh head turns ‘yellowing’ after a while? Previously I had GoeDrum and now it turned yellow after 1 year, while my V drum mesh head and remo silentstroke are still white.
I've not had any issues with the heads going yellow, no!
I like the bigger logo to be honest. It is bigger but it looks good designed and i work with logos professionally and it looks well rounded in metaphoric way.

Haha it's all good! Yeah, to be fair, it's probably more the size that bugs me and makes me dislike the logo. If it was scaled down I probably would've thought nothing of it. And I didn't have a lot else to complain about 😂
