the angle changing clamp is something i wouldnt even think existed.
I like your stage set-up. Well thought out.
Such a great video. Exactly what I needed as a custom rack is the direction I think I am going to need to go. BTW I continue to be very impressed with the comprehensive detail you get through in your videos like this. Thanks for going through all of the work that goes into this.
I’m saving your video series on rack expansion/ elimination. The many links are extremely helpful and yeah most of those things I’d only hoped existed! Now I have every option possible! 👍
This was highly informative. thank you!
Great suggestions, thank you. 👏👏👏
Awesome tutorial and great set of links! Thanks for this!
Thanks!
I use a rack and many stands, I love my setup so much! Spent over $10,000 on the damn thing! Much Respect brother🙏🏼 Thanks for all your hard work!
THANK YOU!! Awesome topic and video... very informative.
Thanks for watching! :)
Pearl make square clamps for the TD17 square bar that fit perfectly. I got one and added another cymbal.
Ahh, that's great to know, thanks! I remembered seeing square racks by a manufacturer but couldn't remember which and didn't know they were the same size.
Good video. I'm a Gibraltar fan. Now have an Alesis rack I'm modifying and love the Gibraltar pipe end connectors for holding cymbals and other things.
Very useful, thx!
Great video, I built a full custom rack from Gibraltar for my TD50
Was thinking about buying another rack because my current rack is not very stable. This makes me realize I can add T legs to my current rack to stabilize it. Thanks!
I have a second Roland MDS-6 frame coming in today to add to my existing MDS-6 frame. This video really gave me some new ideas on setting them up that I didn't think about. Very cool and, like any drummer worth his salt, perfect timing.
Thanks! Brilliant stuff, have fun tinkering!
You need this video now ua-cam.com/video/_IwStHiQa_Q/v-deo.html
Another useful vid 👍 I’m planning to swap my TD17 compact rack for the wider MDS9 then use the old one for additional parts. Some of the things in this video are really gonna help 👍👍
Thanks! Awesome, let me know how you get on!
how it went? im in the middle of planing to do the same thing.
For me, I like to play with my stool very high and my current rack is set low so I I have a few ideas for how to raise things up or ditch the rack and mount my kit to just stands, like in the previous video. Good info. Thanks!
This is really cool. I spent 400 bucks on a full low profile rack from Gibraltar and haven't used with my acoustic kit since buying the crosstown aluminium hardware. I can swap the low profile rack with the crappy Yamaha DTX-10 rack and it will look cooler. Love these vids!!
Thanks for the suggestion about removing that horrible square bar in the middle of the compact rack. Cant ever get my toms where I want them. Definitely going to do that. Also that connection for mounting a cymbal arm on the end of a pipe looks extremely useful I'm always wishing I could move my right most cymbal further to the right but I cant because it hits the clamp on the end of the bar, but if I use one of those I could move it another 6 inches to the right which would be perfect!
The annoying thing about that rack is that they used to do the same style rack but with a proper middle bar but replaced it with that. I imagine it was either to save some money or to drive people towards an upgrade.
Yeah, the end post mounts are super useful! There's also the option of using an adjustable multi clamp which could be mounted off the vertical pipe then the angle changed so your cymbal could still go upwards rather than horizontal. I went into that on the other rack video if that's of any interest/use! :) Thanks for watching!
Nice vid and nice explanation! I have a converted TAMA C-Jam Pancake kit, and i use 2 sturdy cymbal stands, and many clamps that holds my 3 small toms, 2 crashes, 1 hihat, 1 ride, and alesis sample pad pro 4 :) I'm totally fine with this. But you have great ideas, that i can probably use in the future
Hey just so you guys know, big boxes like Home Depot or Lowes sell like 10 or 12 foot sticks of metal conduit pipe that are super close if not exactly 1.5 inches and work great with my Gibraltar clamps and also work with my old Yammy plastic clamps of all types. I’d imagine any kind of drum clamp works. Haven’t figured out a way to paint galvanized pipe a good way but if you want cheap or long tubes or just want to DIY your own rack projects and don’t care about the color of the tubes then it’s a great way to go.
Great tip!
I just use a standard MDS-12v rack, but I'd like to extend the crossbar like 6 more inches or so, lol.
Nice video!! I don't really care for the rack that came with my Strike Pro SE. It doesn't feel sturdy. I'm looking forward to your video about converting to all stands as I may consider doing that or maybe just buying a whole new rack system from Gibraltar or somebody.
Running into this issue trying to combine the parts from my td-11 kv kit and a td-4K kit I picked up the other day on FB marketplace for only 250$ us w/ brand new dw throne. Trying to figure out a unique way to setup those Roland mds-4 racks has been a major pain in the ass. Thankfully the td-4 rack did not have the square bar connecting the two longer poles. Still trying to create a new setup has been aggravating. Yesteday I rage quit when I became so frustrated with I. Going to try again today. I absolutely love the module rack. Gibraltar makes an Edrum rack that is very similar to what you built. I’ve been tempted to buy that rack online today, however it’s chrome and all I have are black Roland rack Bars and that might look weird. Normally looks aren’t a big deal if it gets the job done, when mixing black and chrome I just don’t like the look
I use an acoustic kit and interested in customizing my drum rack to add room for an 18" Ozone cymbal
Your videos are extremely useful. I’m recommending them to all my drummer friends.
Question: What type of clamp can I use to connect a hi-hat stand to a Roland v-drum rack? I have a 3-legged DW 3000 series hi-hat stand, wish I’d have gotten the two legged model! And I have a Roland TD-17kvx kit, with a DW 3000 series double bass pedal, and want to group the hi-hat pedal in closer. I’ve seen drummers connect hi-hat stands directly to the down tube of the Roland MDS-Compact rack. I just don’t know specifically which clamp to buy to do that.
Excellent video. I have an Alesis Strike I recently purchased used got a great deal, the only thing is the rack does not fit my space. Can you suggest something for me please? 2 rack toms and 2 floor tom pads
Great video as always! At the 50 second mark, what is the brand of tom mount you have shown? I am looking for a mount the allows me to extend further from the rack clamp and this looks like it would work.
Thanks David! That L-rod is just an Alesis L-rod from their Strike line, held in place with a standard metal rack multi clamp. drum-tec sell them on their own pretty cheap under "Alesis Electronic Drum Rack L-Rod Pad Holder". They say Alesis only on them but I think that's just because they're slightly undersized compared to other brands but they work fine with most pads I've tried.
I've had the over the top "rack everything" setup to the stealth setups. While rack systems look amazing, let you place everything exactly where you want it, and they do free up floor space, they are a pain to load in and out and transport.
Disappointing.
Good stuff. Wondering if you have a Pop/Dance type kit in your arsenal for TD50 and where I can purchase it?
I've got a few that I use but nothing on the store as of yet. An electronic pack is on the to-do list but not quite sure when. If you find the first video I put out (Create Natural Electronic Drum Sounds), I do a walkthrough of how I made a couple, though you'd need to find a couple of samples or to use the closest-sounding stock sounds in their place.
Amazan sell Gibraltar black metal rack. Different size. I got two pcs. To match my roland rack. Clamps not include.
The Gibraltar racks are much better than the Roland thin metal ones, i'm always worried of over tightening a thin metal bars
Yeah, I agree there. Suppose it's not too bad with the plastic clamps on the thinner metal but they're definitely less hardy.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop yeah i just feel like i can pierce it with the metal 4 sided lug/bolt
Ufff, you talk to fast mate yet very well spoken even for non native English speakers 😀 & I understand you want to condense your videos as much as possible but one get lost at times LOL
Regarding the TD07 "square bar", do you know of such "good" BIG tablet holder & mixer holder for it?. You mainly cover usual oval bars. Thanks :)
He's literally English, and I can understand every word just fine. 😂
"Pimp your rack" sounds really bad if you drop the drums correlation lol
😂 absolutely!
Companies should be endorsing or sending you free hardware to review, honestly i don't see much about hardware on youtube
I just want to find an extension for snare drum stand so I can stand while practicing on a drum pad, searching finds literally nothing helpful.
Guess I have to go to the hardware store.
my advice ...skip everything and just get a pearl or yamaha rack ..my old roland rack was awful , but nothing was a bad as the alesis strike rack
i commend them for coating the pipes black ..its a great look , however, its a SMOOTH coating ...meaning ,,,
even gibralters road series clamps slip on these
..me , i'm waiting for my taxes and i'm making a pearl drum rack from sound odds and ends from my accustic rack ...no slip, no fuss, no muss ...
the plastic rack clamps , especially from alesis , just suck ..lol the DRUMS from alesis are just fine ...but i've had to pick my e-drums up off the floor too many times lol
The Alesis racks are slightly undersized so yeah, sometimes even good quality clamps won't prevent slipping!
@@TheeDrumWorkshop ohhhhh! i didnt realize.... that explains alot ...lol.
still i have these left over pearl bits so, i think i'll put them to use :) but thanks , that solves the mystery ...gibraltar clamps usually dont fail me so catastrophically .lol
