If you've heard Doug Stanhope's stand up bit on Peta, you might find it slightly ironic that they interviewed him.
You guys do know that Doug Stanhope is behind PETA zero percent right? I'm really blown away that you would have this on your official channel.
Sober Doug is a sight to behold.
Funny how he never mentions PETA by name in this clip. I wonder if he actually approves of them using it. I know he eats meat for example.
Saying he supports Peta is kinda of a stretch.
Unnecessary cruelty against animals solely for the purpose of entertainment is to me obviously wrong. This seems to be Doug's agenda here as well. But PETA's agenda seems to me to be a tad more far-reaching.
the shame is that no one follows what Doug says.
I only just discovered this guy and I like him more and more.
I love Stanhope so much. He's my hero.
I respect Stanhope and of all the Peta rambling and madness Id have to say THIS was the most sobering. I didnt hear him say anything aginst the eating of meat...but definatelly against the torture and exploitation of animals..and who couldnt get on board with that? But as for eating meat, how can that NOT be natural. If no other animal in exsistence ate meat other than humans I might look at it as if we were doing something unnatural. But that's not the case.
@Citizenthirteen Yes. All those things are natural. Nature encompasses everything in existence.
He actually seems like a really chill guy
I'm 100% positive that has a few choice words about his "support" for PETA.
Shh. They're listening. Can't talk here.
stanhope never said he supported peta specifically. learn to notice something out of context
Hahaha good for keeping the last bit in 🙂
who says he's sober, Doug is righteous sober or not
And that's why i drink
That's really cool that he rescued those animals. It makes me sad when people don't take care of their pets. Why the fuck have one if you're gonna beat it and leave it out in the cold?
You're right, we're asking people who can make a change to make that change. Most of us don't like in remote Alaska :).
We'd still encourage you to leave all animal flesh off your plate.
I love the way he speak, hahahahah
Finally Peta, something that I like that comes from you.
Doug is the man. Anyone who is for the animals and all the creatures that are less fortunate then us, is alright in my book.
Or instead we can just allow people to hunt thus reducing the demand for processed meat. This is a benefit for two reasons. First off, not as many cows and chickens are needed to be raised to be slaughtered, living a truly artificial life. Second, it's better for the economy. States can raise dollars provided by hunters instead of spending it on sterilization techniques. I understand heavily populated areas might need it but it's a money pit if spent throughout the state.
Who knew?
These are good points, but i dont see how they defend PETA
Stanhope is god. He's my next favorite person after myself.
He never said he supported peta, he just doesn't want animals to be abused for fucked up reasons.
P.S.: He also complained about some crazy peta protests including blood being sprayed on random people on streets.
And don't forget, people are animals too...
It's in an animal's nature to reproduce. It's not like you can pass a law that says they can only have one litter in their lifetime and expect them to listen. And I've never heard of hunting being ineffective in controlling population. I often wonder why hunting always seems to be an issue when it has been a way of life not just for humans, but for every other carnivore or omnivore throughout history. It's not killing for the sake of killing. It's a way of life.
Well if that were the case, I'm sure millennia ago our ancestors would have stuck to simply being farmers and gatherers. Sure humans in colder climates needed those pelts to survive, but in tropical climates, they still hunted for nutrition. Given their technology, I'm sure gathering and farming was easier than hunting yet they still found that activity necessary. Sure there are people that live vegan lifestyles, but I'm not sure that would be possible across the board.
We're sorry you feel that way. If you have any questions about what we do, visit peta.org
Very True. Also local animal shelters and alike must be supported, which includes independent rescue leagues and alike. WSPA and ASPCA and WWF are good ones.
I kill an animal for food only, then thank the animal and find use for each part. I have deer skin clothes because I had to find a use for the skin from the deer I killed. I used it's bones for stock, and made a venison soup. Afterwards I used the bones for tools. I ate most of the organs.
Doug is always cool.
We think you have your numbers wrong. You can see our financial reports at PETA.org. Let us know if you have any questions!
Interesting to hear Stanhope sober
Thank you man, thank you
I love this guy.
Of course! Happy to have the discussion!
We eat plants (which are living organisms) because they do not feel pain, fear, joy, etc, like humans do. Animals do, so we choose not to eat them. We do not believe there is an ethical way to eat animals.
We know for a fact that people care about the suffering of others, even animals. Many who were hesitant to consider the welfare of animals before gladly went vegan (or vegetarian) once they discovered how easy it was.
all that he says is true.
he has a great joke making fun of PETA, and it's true also :P
That is correct BUT I'm talking about hunting the wild animals that already exist in our world. Not raising animals for slaughter. Hunting actually goes a long way in preserving the crops we grow for human consumption. If hunting were no longer around, food prices would go up as more and more wild animals would be around consuming farm raised food. It's a supply and demand issue.
lol you can tell he hasn't had a drink yet. he's the man
As much as I understand people not wanting slaughterhouses, it also much be noted that hunting is essential. Humans made a mistake by killing off natural predators like wolves and now if hunting becomes morally objected, the only thing that will kill off herbivores is either starvation or high speed automobiles. I have seen the perils of areas with significant hunting regulations. Walking those woods I found numerous winter kills due to starvation. Gotta keep the numbers in check somehow.
Stanhope sounds good! I listen when he speaks.
Well we're pretty sure we know how smart humans are. We all have a choice in what we eat, and we encourage people to exercise their right to choose what they put into their bodies. As far as cows, it doesn't matter that they don't compare to humans in mental capacity. What matters is that they feel the same pain, fear, and joy that we do. Why cause them to feel so much pain and distress?
Team people.
Bravo Doug,
Hey! We feel that we should exclude ourselves from that because we can. To our knowledge, a lion cannot choose what he/she eats. We can, and it's a wonderful gift. Why not use it?
If population truly is the concern, there are other ways to keep numbers down, and there are parts of the country that practice these humane methods that don't involve shooting and killing. Additionally, hunting is often ineffective, actually causing bumps in population.
Animals currently raised for food would have to go to a reputable sanctuary, as human homes don't have the resources they need. Comparing euthanasia and terrifying, violent slaughter is unreasonable. They are completely different. The animals raised for food are bred to be killed by us, and they are raised, transported, and finally killed in horrific ways.
Hunting isn't restricted in most states now, we already allow people to hunt. While we agree that the lives animals live on factory farms are truly artificial (a great word to use), we're still contend that the best thing we can do for animals and people is to not eat animals at all.
It cannot be denied that plants couldn't possibly feel pain like we do, as they lack all the necessary parts (central nervous systems, nerve endings, brains). Studies have backed up this assertion. It also cannot be denied that animals feel immense pain, just as we do. When put in painful situations, they scream, cry, and act just as we would. Because of these two facts, we do not feel that one could ethically consume animals (unless you found an animal who had already died!). :)
ua-cam.com/video/YWOyhfgCppY/v-deo.html - This is what Doug actually sounds like.
Our percentage is so high because we don't take in animals who are adoptable - we send them to a local shelter. So most of the animals we see are the extremely sick/abused animals from the surrounding rural areas, or elderly animals surrendered to us by guardians who cannot afford to bring them to a clinic to be euthanized.
We don't think we need to worry about cows launching an attack anytime soon. They're actually very nice!
Malnutrition would not occur is meat consumption would become illegal (but it would spur a pretty big party at the PETA office). We can get everything our body needs without animal flesh. We appreciate that you're advocating for less meat consumption, but we would still contend that no killing is better than some killing. Thanks!
cows sure. cows are great! but llamas? we can't trust them.
i don' know who the guy is but he's fucking awesome ::)) he's so funny
Who is this guy? I like him!
It's actually far more wasteful to produce meat than it is to produce crops like wheat and soy. Meat production wastes land, resources, and water.
We don't think custom is a good enough excuse to keep shooting animals. Regarding overpopulation, some studies suggest that sterilization is an effective, long-term solution. A method called "trap, neuter, and return" has been tried on deer in New York, and an experimental birth-control vaccine is being used on female deer in New Jersey. One Georgia study concluded "if females are captured, marked, and counted, sterilization reduces herd size, even at relatively low annual sterilization rates."
Cool video, Love the PETA joke though
i don' know who the guy is but he's fucking awesome ::))
my favourite living comedian. go vegan, doug!
You're right, people who don't spay/neuter and breeders are the real problems. If we fix those problems, euthanasia won't be necessary anymore.
Humans are omnivorous creatures. It's my opinion we're best off eating MODERATE amounts of meat in conjunction with plenty of fruits, grains, vegetables, etc. I'll agree that 90% of meat eaters eat more than they NEED to but meat provides plenty of nutrients and helps prevent the kind of malnutrition that would occur if meat consumption would somehow become illegal. Again, I feel moderate meat consumption is part of a balanced diet.
is doug fucking sober?
True... If you wanna see a whale, get on a FUCKING BOAT!
Hey there, that's just not true. 6-8 million cats and dogs go into US shelters each year, and around half must be euthanized because there are not homes for them. We are so far away from any danger of extinction that talk of it is moot. We don't want the extinction of dogs and cats, as many PETA staffers and members are proud guardians to dogs and cats. If you'd like the real story on our work for cats and dogs, head to petasaves dotcom. Thanks.
Peta wanta ALL pets spayed or nudered, the enevitable result of that would be extinction of those species, my cat and dog are happy, and not spayed or nudered, you people kill more animsls than u save and u know it
I love this guy.
