  • For many airgunners wanting shooting slugs in .177 they can be difficult to find.
This video is to determin if the JSB Beast is an alternative to slugs.
Im shooting them at various distances to see if they match the slugs.
I hope that you will enjoy and give me some constructive feedback from your own experience.
    Best regards

Welcome to the group of dissatisfied users of JSB Beast pellets. I have also seen my groups fall apart in the same way as you at longer distances. It is known to me that the pellets begin and fly in spirals.
I have experience that JSB Monster pellets make better groups at longer distances, especially the Monster Redesign version seemed successful.

    • @VikingAirgunner
      @VikingAirgunner  2 роки тому

      Ahh that is good info!!!
The Beast's are quite speed sensitive, so when velocity drops they would spiral much easier - where as the Red. seems to be more forgiving i terms of velocity 🙂
At wich speeds have you been shooting the Beasts?

    • @TheLandbo
      @TheLandbo 2 роки тому

@@VikingAirgunner Oh, the speed I can not state exactly as my experience comes from a Diana Stormrider and a Gamo GX-40, which are both unregulated. A gifted guess will be between 220 and 250 m/s. I have also shot them in my new FX Impac M3, but only up to 50 meters at a speed of around 290 m / s. On the impac, I just found that they shot excellently with an energy of about 37 Joul without experimenting further.

@@VikingAirgunner I will try to shoot JSB Beast the next time I have lined up for 100+ meters on my FX Impact M3. Right now there is shiny water on the pitch but I hope it disappears again soon.
I think I have found a way and make a pellet very visible when flying in the dark using glow paint. Unfortunately, it looks just now that the weight of the pellet increases by 0.3 grain, but will experiment to get the extra weight down. Hope to be able to get the extra weight down to only 0.1 grain and still have such a thick layer of paint that the end of the pellet will still shine brightly until it hits the target.

Hey, like your channel. So curious it be great if you could list your stats of where you are at with your .177 impact build and how well you are grouping and the settings. So I watched you video but kind of have to piece it all together of what you are shooting and the best settings and what is on your rifle. So if you could give a build out of what your best groups are and what you are using. Seems like you have a mini diary of your progress which is great. I am looking at building something similar but I keep having to go back through your videos to piece it all together. So one example you could put this information on your about area of your channel or in each intro of your videos pin it our something like that. Like current 100m group size .89 inches with this build. Some of the info I would love to see.
    1. best slugs,
    2. speed of slugs,
    3. best 50 100m groupings size
    4. Barrels length,
    5. liner type, tuner type. ,
    6. regulator Settings

It strikes me that these pellets are too long for the twist rate of your liner. Long projectiles need faster twist rates to keep them stable. You can see from the paper target that they are tumbling by the key hole shapes they make at long range compared to the round holes at closer ranges.

Hey, just got done with my first round of testing my Maverick .177 500mm barrel. This is bone stock. I tried all the .177 slugs and the best seem to be shooting the JSB knockouts 13.4 grains slugs. Curious what your most accurate slug is ?
The next best slugs were nelson 15 grn. I just tried the groups at 25 meters so not much room. I was shooting these knockouts at 1043 fps avg over 20 shots.
Three things I need to do in the future
    1. Clean Barrel
    2. Put in carbon Sleeve
    3. Put on Barrel Tuner
    4. Ret-tune Regulators
Any thoughts on something I am missing ?

      Hi Jay
It seems like you are well on the way, so keep up the good work.
As for my best slugs I have made videos about the NSA and the KO, so you can perhaps find some info in those videos. Also there is a video with the STX vs Superior Liner.
If you are not running the Huma Dual transferport I would suggest you looking into that. It is a HUGE gain!!
      Some comments on your list:
Clean barrel - I never clean my barrels.
Carbon liner sleeve - Great idea!
Barrel tuner - also a great idea, but wait untill you have the best tune you can get without it, and then install. If your gun is not tuned it is just another variable.
Reg tune - tune foraround 25 fps over your target-fps and then turn down the hammer. Ernest Rowe does some great tuning videos.
And if you can get a longer shooting range. I would suggest at least 75 yards with no wind. Here you can really see the change between the different settings and your ammo.
I hope that this will help you.
      Best regards

I tried the 15 gr NSA - I have made a few videos on them and I found them to perforrm about the same as the 13 gr Knockouts, so with the prices much lower on the JSB´s here in Europe they won the match 😀
I had to use a higher reg preasure to obtain the velocity on the NSA´s aswell, so that was another factor. But I might have to give the 20 gr a go at some point. My buddy Stefan showed me some Wildman slugs in 21 gr (think it was) HUGE 😀 I could easily imagine them being interesting.
I tried the Beasts at speeds from 800 fps and I only had them grouping well a 920+ fps.

    • @reyalPRON
      @reyalPRON Рік тому

I know. its a balance all the way to the target. The heavier the projectile the higher linear advance is needed to maintain the "stable trajectory". Also the barrel length is paramount to the muzzle velocity and spin ratio. For slugs over 12.8 grain in .177 there are two "sweetspots" in the 880-920 and the higher the grain value the higher the fps needs to be to counter the canter that the conical center builds up pr revolution of the projectile.
Hope that made a clearer answer for you :)

Try Eun Gin pellets or the pellets from Spain called Rifle pellets. Also you should always measure your barrel bore for precise diameters to the diameter of pellets. I've heard people shooting pellets over 100 meters accurately. You have to match the bore to the correct heavy pellets. JSB are good but may not be the ticket always. I do know pellets can shoot pretty far out but I don't know about the FX stx barrels or slug barrels on it. They are made strictly for slugz. The Lothar Walthers barrels and Diana are very good shooting distances with pellets. Also if you've been shooting slugz out of a barrel it's no more Good for shooting pellets because of wear in the barrel or liner. Ed da pro snippin backyard man💥💪😎

Hi mate!! Great shooting...until 75 with .177 cal....but after that WooooooW! 😂Lucky GoPro....but not so lucky tripod! Think the issue, is that .177 pellets are to lite and aerodynamically crap when passing the 75 meters marker.....you should try like 5 meters at a time, to see exactly where things start happening and the groupings go to hell. The bigger cal and heavier the pellets are the longer distance you can use them, until they screw up groupings. Just for fun, also put the chrono on next time to see if there is any difference in speed, also thinking of if you filled up the gun with air between changing distance.....Everything is a relative. 😉Thanks for a good show!

    Hi Peter,
It may be the air speed of the pellet has dropped at this distance, and the rifling spin it got at muzzle is still at that high rotational speed, that the pellet is being set off in to micro cork screwing, with in a larger vortex circle. Sometimes less rotational spin is better for longer distance shots. Also try dropping the FPS power and see if this brings this back in to play.
    Hope this helps

I was thinking of trying the Ultra Shocks and the Beasts , especially after buying an FX Chrono and discovering my favourite 10gr Zan slugs have a significant FPS variation in my UK sub 12 version, STX Superior M3. My favourite pellets so far are the JSB Hades and Exact Heavy Diabolos (4.52mm). However, the Zan slugs fly on a much flatter trajectory and are equally as accurate even despite the varying FPS, I'm guessing because they probably pick up more twist/spin in the barrel. After watching this video, I'm now thinking I might be better off trying the 13gr 177 Zans. Thanks again for your hard work and this great channel.

It has to do with center of mass and center of pressure. Normally with a lighter pellet the skirt is hollower keeping your center of pressure in the rear and mass forward. with the beast the center of pressure moves forward because of the extra lead needed for the mass, causing it to spiral dramatically when the gyroscopic spin stabilization slows down. Which you determined happens after 50 meters exponentially. There is really nothing you can do to fix this, and it's good for what it's good for. More speed will buy you accuracy for a touch longer till you reach the undesired spin rate again. Just my 2 cents.

I don’t know Peter the bc is not great enough would be my guess and you need more spin possibly to maintain the beasts bc more efficiently. Matt Dubber from South Africa Air to the rescue! Perhaps if you can get your request to for this information would be 👍🏼 great! Top notch fellow there!
Side note Peter, I have recently received my Wildcat Mk3 and what a joy it is to shoot and oh my the accuracy is unbelievably believable now! I am quite confused however because I believe the regular needs increased slightly however I think the adjustment location has been moved on the most recent Wildcat mk3’s released. The manual doesn’t reflect this new location in its wordage and I cannot be certain but the Maverick looks to have the same regular adjustment screw but I can’t be certain and do not want to turn any screws without fully understanding. My manual does say it is for the FxWildcat Mk3 / Maverick and perhaps is outdated. If you would have any information you could relay back about this topic I would be forever thankful!
Peter may I ask are you restricted to only 4.5mm in Denmark? Oh and again I must say you have a gorgeous area to target practice and looks very peaceful too!
Peter have a blessed weekend and I look forward to many more videos from you!✌🏼&❤️

      Hi man 🙂
HUGE congrats on the new gun 😀 I makes me wanna get a new gun too 😀 Said it before - the Wildcat is the absolut coolest gun that FX makes!!! If I get rich or lucky it will defenately find its way into my collection 😎 Saddly I know nothing about it. Wish I could help you, but it would be as good as hot air 😀 Thanks to TheLandbo for providing the right link 🙏🙏
The forrest is the best place ever - I told my wife that I consider moving us out there 😂
I cant imagine that I will dive much deeper into the Beasts. I doubt that they would ever perform well beyond the 50-60m. Some how I think that the Monster Red would perform better 🤔
The 177 is the only gun you can shoot without a hunting licence here in DK. Anything larger requires just that. Its a course that takes qiute a while. And owning a larger caliber requires you to have a permit for the weapon and you have to keep it locked up in a safe. And on top of that you cant shoot it in the yard. I just think its too much of a hazzle. So being able to shoot respectable groups at 100m, I really dont think that I need it. But if the laws were changed I would get a 22 tomorrow 😂
Have a great sunday man - and enjoy your new baby 😎🤗

Dra dem ned i 860 ish heller. Pellets stabiliserer helt motsatt av slugs, og høy hastighet får dem til å miste stabilitet etter noen meter.

      Hi Luis
I found the translation function so no worries about language from here 🙂 And sorry for me not knowing this.
I actually tested the KnockOuts 13.43 at around 1020 fps before I started shooting Zans and they did a really good job. And maybe you are right - maybe I should make a video where I test the KnockOuts at high velocities 🤔🙂

Don't know what to say about the group at long range. But, mate, a fat man's breathing? Are you kidding? I watched your free diving video and I'm sure you breathe better than most of us 😀 Even if it was 14 years ago.

Its kinda funny bcs I had them shooting extremely well at 980 fps in the STX, but I have not been able to make them work at that velocity in the superior liner 🙄

I could do better with ancient pcps and pellets for 80 yards. You need different sized slugs perhaps
