FX IMPACT VS CLAY - BEST Hunting Ammunition for .177 Caliber Airgun
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- This is a test of 9 different pellets and slugs to find the best ammunition for hunting with an airgun.
The test is done at 20 m against a bar of clay using the FX Impact MKII
Im testing the cavity, penertation and the expansion of the pellet.
Please give me your thoughts and do share your own experiences.
Best regards

Thanks for the video. Like seeing .177 videos. Everybody is going bigger nowadays.
Thanks Justin 🙂
Here in Denmark we need a licence to buy bigger cal than 177, but with the development in the availability of slugs is seems to be enough 🙂
It's nice to see a full power .177 video. It seems everyone who's making videos these days, who shoot full power guns, shoot .22 and larger. Most videos in .177 are in a sub 12-foot pound velocity range. I have a Weihrauch HW110 in .177 and my gun shoots extremely well with Hunter Extreme's 9.57 at 980 and JSB 13.43 pellets at about 860. I love the .177 caliber. I do own a Weihrauch HW 110 in .22 but I prefer the .177. Great video, keep them coming!!!!
Totally agree whit you
Most of my Air Rifles are .177 spring and PCP but, just recently bought an FX Crown in .22 not yet tuned but shooting 31 Ft/lbs from the box with JSB 18.13, it's a great time to shoot Air Rifles, and much cheaper ammo than my .308 powder burner, thanks for the testing, always good to watch.
I tried the KO’s in .177 both 10.03 & 13.43. Not pleased with the 10.03 but the 13.43 are shot like laser beams!! Tried them from 25m all the way through 120m. You can push them even further in my opinion!! Keep up the good work with your videos!!
Thanks buddy 🙂
I have my faith in the 13.43 as well. The 15 grain seems ok, but the reg needs to be set quite high. 12,5 is good, but something in between makes sence.
At wich velocities did you shoot the 13.43?
@@VikingAirgunner At an average of 1000fps
nice to see impact 1 77now a day all about bigger caliber...... i also own an Impact 177 and I also test a lot of pellets and slug...my gun love 10.34 and jsb hades, and H&N Baracuda .... using 13.43grain its only good @ under 70m and 16.20 @ under 30, and some Slug i test also under 30, But JSB 10.34 and H&N 10.65 it soo accurate even at 100yard, not a problem... I never satisfied when the pellets and slug if they only perform good at
under 50.....
Cool that you can have 10.34 shooting well at 100 m 😎
177 will be much more popular in the future with technonology improving and slugs cheaper and more available.
I have been testing KnockOuts the last couple of days and a new video about it commin out within the next 24 hrs 🤗
Thanks for your comment 🙂
But no power thats why if we can shoot 16.20 good in longer ranges it will.be very fun.... My Px 177 and kral jumbo can shoot slug and 16.20jsb very good but this impact 177 can't , impact is an expensive gun i wish it can shoot good the heavier pellets and slug....

You're the only person I've ever heard of getting good results with .177 Hades, people at the range are giving them away as they're so inaccurate, strange as the .22 is the most accurate pellet in my Fx Crown mk2.
Very nice and super informative video on penetration/expansion, the best I have seen on the subject.
I tested the NSA 15g in a few 5 shot groups with my Zbroia Kozak FC. They didnt group quite as good as the JSB Beast (which my rifle LOVES), I was shooting at 30 meters and some say that slugs do not group well at short distances, so I will give them another chance at my next session. I also ordered 18g and 19.5g HP DB slugs from Wildman, and look foreward to testing them.
Hi Brian. Thanks for your comment. Your support means alot to me.
The Beast is a fantastic pellet. They group better for me too on the shorter distances. Shooting them at around 940-950 fps. Outperforming the NSA and the new KO 13,43 from JSB. But I guess that the slugs are taking over at 50m+. 18 and 19,5 gr are some serious slugs 😀
Very nice test. Thank you.
Thanks Bruno 🙂
Thanks for watching 😎
Nice video very well presented BUT .
I understand that for you those were the speeds you would choose from your gun .
But it was far from a fair test between the pellets and slugs .
Some projectiles u shot at 16 fpe and others 32 fpe .obviously this can't be fair .do it all again but this time keep the muzzle energies the same (20 fpe perhaps) and then do again with the velocities being the same say 900 fps .
You will learn far more and help more people decide and what's right for them .
Ps the barracuda extreems performed amazingly at what I presume was around 17 fpe . A clear winner in my opinion
Well I would say that the test could be done better yes, but it would mean lots of tuning - and to be honest I didnt wanna bother with that.
Testing a slug that flys best around 980 fps at below 900 fps would be a complete waste of time where as testing a pellet that would perform best a 885 fps at 900 is close to a non excisting difference.
But yes any test can be done in many ways.
Thanks for you comment - I really appreciate different approaches
Best regards

Thanks for the reply .
Surely you must have been altering your gun between different pellets etc . A simple 1 setting on the hammer spring for all pellets would have been easier .? I appreciate that In a real world scenario the slugs would be shot with more energy than a light pellet
But I shoot 8.44 jsb s at 990 fps and they are very accurate out to 70 yds they also kill very well . to get my slugs( 13 grns ) to go that fast is just too much air usage and my shot count drops to much .
When it comes to hunting there are many factors to making clean kills. Not least a flat trajectory to help with changing distances to quarry . A 1000 fps projectile helps flatten the curve as does a high bc pellet /slug .
Thanks again .love your vids
Stu
HN barracuda is my favorite pellet, works great for what it is.
Gotta love the NSA hollowpoints in 15 & 20 grain .177 for me
Ohh yes 😎
Didnt know that they made 20 gr.
I have a video commin up - well actually 2 videos with the 15 gr 😃
Thanks for watching 🤗

Thanks for your comment 🙂 I aim to pass on as much knowledge as possible, so I am happy that you liked it.

After reading some of your comments I can tell you I can't tell any difference in hunting between the full power guns in .177 or .22. I have taken plenty of game, including woodchuck's (groundhogs) with the .177. A well placed head shot and these critters don't move at all. I have taken five without issue and none of them ran, they just roll over. Smaller game is nothing for the .177. The .177 shoots accurate enough to thread a needle. The right pellet choice and where you put the pellet is the key to humane hunting not caliber.
Very good and informative test you made the Peter 😎👍 and from that JSB Ultra Chock, its an impressive cavity from a pellet, I guess that thing is really good at turning off the light on the small critters 😉👍
Thank you Bjarne 🙂
I was impressed by that one aswell. Was always interested in it so it was fun shooting it 🙂
Hey Peter 👋,I have a high powered JKHAN iluda n400 smoothbore. 177cal
And it loves the JSB 16gr. The animals that I hunt with that setup don't stand a chance with a head shot
Nice presentation of the .177cal keep up the great work 💪
Thanks buddy, 🙂
Happy hunting 😎
Stunning video Peter thank you for sharing with us all, I guess it will be the Barracudas cross tops for me under 10 Gr, as in the uk its sub 12lb ft.
Great video. Thanks for sharing
Great video as always - but I'd love to see how the results would look (especially from the slugs) at 34, 75 and even 100 meters. Keep up the good work!
Thanks buddy 🙂
Yes that would be interesting. There was a guy on the FB group FX 177 Owners who tested the KnockOuts 13.43 at 50 m yesterday. They expanded to around 9 mm. After this video I tested the KnockOuts at 22 m and had an expansion of 10.21 mm, so kinda predictive 🙂
You are welcome to join the group 🙂
@@VikingAirgunner I actually joined the group after you mentioned it in another video, I will go and check out the 50m clay test!
The ultra shock are the winners in my eyes . They will be more available and better priced no doubt than the slugs ?
They are defenately contenders 🙂
More available for sure, but the JSB Knockouts in 177 are priced like pellets - but still very difficult to come by.
Thanks for watching mate 🙂
@@VikingAirgunner can I ask why .177 ?
I’m in the uk and have a .25 on my license. It’s great , I toy with the ideas of another high power , I feel like .177 has a lot of promise but I’m not seeing it in real world yet .
I feel like they need you build the slugs 2x longer and heavier to give them absurd BC or something .
And obviously rifles built to suit
@@mattsimmons3259 I would love to have a lager caliber, but it reqiuires a hunting licence. And that is typically a course lasting a whole winter.
And on top of that you need licence for the gun and a safe to store it in. And you are not allowed to shoot in in the garden.
Just too much of a hazzle.
@@VikingAirgunner that’s easy compared to uk licensing 😜
@@mattsimmons3259 Thinking about just getting the licence - but then again I would have two guns shortly after 😂
I have been enjoying your videos, especially about airguns and pellets. I liked this video a lot. I'm curious about your experience with the FX pellets. I normally shoot JSB 10.34 and Air Arms 10.34 which are almost the same and they both shoot great. How does the FX pellet shoot compared to those? Hard to find the JSB and AA in the USA during COVID. I can find the FX and will buy a bunch of them based on their similarity to the JSB/AA. Thanks!
Specifically asking about the accuracy shooting in an FX Impact M3 with the superior pellet/slug liner. Thanks!
Basically the FX has been performing well for me. I havent used the AA that much, but based on a statement from a shooter in the Field Target national team, the AA are more consistant in weight than JSB/FX. There are some videos of people visiting the JSB factory and they get the expalination of the difference between regular JSB and the FX (JSB produces the pellets for FX)
Im not really the right person to give a professional answer about pellets since my knowledge and experience about them is limited.
Thanks for your commet and thanks for watching 🙂
Best regards

I would like to see how hades and polymags stand up to the clay, slugs may be best but the cost is high.
Agree! I imagine that Hades would perform much like Hunter Extreme, but they both would have been interesting to have in the test 🙂
EXACTLY what I was about to comment.
First time watching one of your vids. Great job and plenty of info. I feel like Im always defending the .177 and people take it as a joke. Maybe more people need to see vids like these
Im doing my very Best to promote it aswell 😃
In the past I wanted a. 22 but now I would not change even if I had the possibility 🤗
I have had a little break in posting videos, but there will be some commin out pretty soon 🙂
I dont know why so many people think tha a bigger cal is always better. Im yet to own a pcp but have a break action (around 1000ft ps) and an underlever 1250ft ps).
Slug is the best choice for hunting.
Agree 🙂
Thanks for watching - have a nice day 😎🌞
Most accurate is the best choice for hunting.
Excellent.
Thanks Gary 🙂
Great test there dane :) Jeg er lige begyndt at skyde jsb beast 16.2 grain . og har rigtig god succes med dem at 890 fps. jeg har den første fx impact uden power petelum , men tror godt jeg kan skrue den yderligere op til 900+ , det må jeg prøves . tak for video.
Hej Kolbeck 🙂
The JSB 13.4 is the most accurate to 50 yards in my Hatsan at44
Its a really good pellet!
Wow! How many shots per fill roughly do you think you’d get with the NSA slugs?
I really wanted to give you a number, but I cant remember. Switching to knockouts and a superior liner gave me much more. That gives around 150 🙂
Best 👍👍
Thanks buddy 😎
@@VikingAirgunner you're welcome 🙏🙏

I think your regs too hight I've same set up but only 100b not maxed on hammer an valve at 1,1/2, am shooting 13.43 monsters an knockouts we excellent results,,,, 😁
You are perfectly right. The setup in this video was made to match the majority of the ammo. And since the video was not about accuracy I chose kind of a middel way.
Thanks for your comment 🙂
Har du prøvet at skyde ler på 100meter og se hva de laver af impact
