I’m glad I seen these comments because I’m wanting to buy the Ruger 22LR for primary carry. I have a Ruger LCR 9mm but it’s of course bigger and more difficult to carry on me. Ive watched several vids and they all say not good for self defense. But a bullet is a bullet and it would definitely slow someone down. I’m going to be shooting my attacker in 2 places…head & heart. What ammo would y’all recommend for self defense in the Ruger 22??

I only care about accuracy under 25 yards, and this gun is super accurate, and will stop anyone in their tracks..I have to paint the front sight soon, as it is harder to latch on target at dusk..I highly recommend this gun to carry once you find out it’s ammo appetite, and like trigger speed and accuracy for targets under 25 yards..

I bought one of these and I really like it. It's also great for older women like my mother. She has a bigger revolver but she has arthritis in her hands and the weight and kick make her unable to use it. She likes the lcp II .22lr because it is really light and doesn't kick too hard. It is perfect for those people and would stop a rape or the like with one nicely placed shot. I also really like it although I plan to pick up something bigger soon. There is a purpose for all guns and just because it's not the right caliber or gun for you doesn't mean it's not perfect for someone else. Danny Scobee Since seeing things I’ve been looking around and reading opinions and reviews. Seems it gets the “what’s the point?” vibe from many. I think a quality pocket pistol in 22lr from Ruger is a perfect gun to have around. Never meant to be the man stopper, more of a trainer/fun gun in my opinion. Cheap to shoot which means I’ll shoot it more. 🤘🏼

What is the purpose of this pistol? Years ago there were many many small pocket size and easily concealable .22 LR semi-auto pistols and revolvers. For some strange reason many were discontinued or took about a 12 year hiatus on production. That couldn't have been more dumb by the manufactures. These .22s were/are very very popular and often sell 10:1 to their other pistols. Nearly everyone should have at least one and needs one. They are cheap to shoot and are fun. You won't find a better tackle box gun for boat and fishing than a small .22 LR semi-auto or revolver. They work great as guns for doing lawn and garden work and farming for the same reason. It's hard to beat one for taking out the trash and quick runs to town or to the gas station. They work great for pest control and fill that role very well. How many times have you been working out on your property and saw a groundhog, skunk, possum, chipmunk, gopher, rat, raccoon etc...etc... that needed shot and you left your overpowered .45 ACP in the house? I know a farmer close to me that goes out to his chicken coop to feed his chickens and gather eggs with a S&W 317 in his pocket. He's shot countless raccoons trying to sneak into his chicken coop and kill his chickens. Everybody should own a "smallish" .22 LR of some type. While the larger target pistols work great for competition and target shooting they are too large to tote around on a regular basis.

Sweet little piece. I have had a number of .22 pistols. The Ruger single 6 in stainless and blue. Two 10/22 Sporters and few cheaper semi-auto pistols from no-name brands when I was first started out some 50 years ago. Of course, I have owned a Glock model 19 in 9mm, a S&W model 39-2 9mm and one of my very favorites was a S&W Model 41 short barrel, which I used for plinking and some none too serious target shooting. Not once did I have a misfire with the model 41. I ran all sorts of ammo through it, too. CCI high-velocity rounds, sure, but non-jacketed Remington and Federal rounds were not uncommon. A great gun that ! have regretted selling for about 25 years.

Just picked one of these up on Saturday. Price was $290. Cleaned it and put about 350 rounds through it the next day. It doesn’t like various Winchester rounds but not a single failure with cc’ing mini mags. Also the accuracy is far better than the 380. One inch bullseye at 50ft offhand consistently.

That being said, it doesn't make it optimal for self defense, not only is it less reliable (rim fire) it's a mouse gun. I think Ruger has made a fun trainer with this one.
The lite weight gives the 22 LR a felt recoil, the small sights teach point shooting, and as you noted there is trigger time.
If you have a 22 Bullet Catcher you can harvest all the 22 lead for casting & reloading other Calibers. The 36 grain 22 adds up when you put hundreds down range. Figure about a pound of lead every time you shoot (200) x 36 grain bullets [200 x 36 = 7200 grains ~ about a pound].

I have a LCP not an LCP2 and not in 22lr just a regular LCP in .380 .I never thought I’d like a gun so small since I’m a big handed man I like my full sized Glock 22 but I live in Phoenix Arizona so I spend most of the year in basketball shorts and athletic shorts ,I carried my LCP everyday for 1 year straight even in the winter because of how much I fell in love with it ,the gun weighs even in .380 just as much as my wallet or my iPhone and is just as big as my iPhone X and with the advancements in both .380 and 9mm in the last few years I found it a great carry gun. There was a firework stand owner just 10 miles from me here in Arizona last 4th of July he was getting ready to close up shop and a guy with a gun ran up on him demanding his money the firework stand owner had his .380 LCP in his pocket he took it out shot the guy in the face 1 time and killed him , the bad guys girlfriend was his get a way driver she must have saw her man get shot in the face because she got out of her car and ran away on foot screaming lol. I’ve only been robbed once and it was while I was walking into a bathroom in Las Vegas a guy pulled a knife on me and told me give him what I had in my pocket this was years before I was legally able to carry so I didn’t have a gun on me but if I would have had my LCP he allowed me to go in my pocket I’m not saying it’s always a good idea to fight back I’m just saying bad guys expect guns to come from holsters not the pocket.

You heard tell correctly. 10 shots dead on at any distance they'll leave you alone. If anybody argues that then ask if you can practice on them. Tell them to attack you at say 30 feet and you shoot em 10 times see if they'll keep attacking you. I think that at 2 or 3 shots they'll leave you alone.

I just got mine today and took it out to the range. It ran fine with CCI Blazer 38 grain round nose, CCI Stinger 32 grain hollow point, and Federal 40 grain round nose.
But with Winchester Super X 40 grain PowerPoint and Armscor 36 grain high velocity hollow point, I was getting primer strikes and no fire. Also had a few jams with them. The Armscor is one dirty ammo too. Every shot there was a cloud of smoke. I tried them both in my Walther P22 as well and still got primer strikes with no fire a few times.
I haven’t tried the CCI Mini Mag 36 grain hollow point yet but I’m hearing that it’s a great round for this pistol too.

With .22 rounds failing to ignite being a pretty common issue, you'd think someone would have made a gun with multiple strike firing pins. If it fails to fire you can rotate the round and hit the rim in a different area and they usually go off. So why not a gun that hits the back of the round at the same time with 3 strikes in different areas?

the problem is that rimfire cartridges are already hard to set off and need a slightly harder hit, therefore you need a stronger trigger which makes a heavier trigger pull, to pull something off with multiple hits that are hard enough you'd have a trigger that's so heavy to pull it's nearly unusable

Whether it was me, the dozen different ammos I tried or the pistol itself, I just could not get it reliable enough to carry. I would have a failure to feed/eject about once every two mags. Too high a rate. So I sold it for the LCR in 38 Special. 100% reliability with that, only one less round. This would be great for people with physical disabilities or like my mother who’s got terrible arthritis and weak hands.

7:56 To me, the biggest miss for this gun is that darn mag disconnect. This gun is perfect for carry (if one likes to use 22 for self defense), but no defense guns should have mag disconnect, IMHO. So I would research to remove that "safety" feature the first thing. But regardless, I want one :)
