    Hello BC.....looks like the XCP is a clear winner and you are correct...the price varies a fair bit....... Looking forward to the bike review...... also definitely looking forward to the MZ rebuild! It was the main thing that got me on your channel but all things come to those that wait eh? keep up the good work and as always....thanks for the vids and yes put me down for the comp! cheers

      Hi Adam, good to hear from you. I apologise re the MZ, I've not given up on it and now I've got the last bearing out of the blind hole in the cases I can start putting it back together. I've got a few points where I'm going to call on the MZ group for advice but once I've done the two Transalp videos tomorrow, then it's full speed on the MZ. Fingers crossed I don't do anything daft lol :) Cheers, Jon

    Fascinating stuff. Who’d have thought ACF would be so far down the charts. Thats what I love about these real world tests. Thanks for taking the time to review. I’d certainly like to try the XCP Pro 🤞🏻

      Hi @TheDervMan yep, an interesting outcome, especially as I'd championed ACF50 over the 'newcomers' for some time as I thought it was the best out there. It's simply a different kind of product though, a sticky oil vs a thin grease / wax like product. I'll add you to the list, good luck on the 16th Dec!

      @@BikingChap I’ve got into the habit of applying ACF with a compressor as it creates a very fine spray. I wonder if XCP is available in a bottle so it too could be applied with a compressor 🤔

      Hi @TheDervMan , it is, I had a quick google and found quite a few places that sell it in 5l packs. Much cheaper than the aerosols if you need a larger volume. Shout if you can't find it and I'll send you the link.

    Wow that's been 2 months already?! Great real life review. What a difference between them all and my bike has not seen anything other than getting washed. Just goes to show you you really need protection in the worsening months. I, like plenty of others would have gone for the ACF50 due to other historic reviews.
    Put me in for a chance to win please and if I'm unlucky, I know what I'll be buying soon.

      Hi @hotdoug1000, thanks for dropping by! I have to say I was surprised by how quickly the rust started to form, especially with the ACF50 which I've used for many years too. I think it just goes to show that the paint on bikes is pretty good to keep the corrosion at bay and not all these sprays last as long as we might have thought! Just need some ideas for future test now! :)

    This is a good review. Just how it should be done. There is a restorer and french polisher outlet in Warwickshire that I have used a few times and they do the same thing with timber protection products. Each product such as oils and varnishes are applied to a piece of timber and left outside. So anyone can actually see how they fare. Great Stuff. I will now be spending a few bob on some xcp.

    Very interesting results. As I’ve said before ACF has worked for me for years now, but I do clean the bike and reapply regularly. It might be time to supplement that with an additional product in some areas. Put me in as interested please BC.

      @BikingChap  7 місяців тому

      Thanks for the feedback Keith, @keithallan8200 , much appreciated! Like you I've genuinely used ACF for years and thought it the best out there. This test was pretty severe, the environment here is very salty and the samples were obviously bare steel but they were all treated the same. Ultimately it's a bit like chain sprays, the spray oils creep better (so better on a chain) but the waxes are longer lasting where they're not squished out.

      Hi @alanoakley4092 , don't be too frustrated, this was on bare steel sheet and in near constant salt spray from the coast nearby. Take some comfort from the fact that XCP Pro Clear Coat still out performed ACF50 which i thought was pretty much the best product out there prior to this test :) Will add you to the drawer on the 16th Dec, good luck!

    Greetings BC,excellent experiment with a surprise conclusion. A pal of mine always uses the Scott 365 product to ‘dose-up’ his bike for winter riding but he does tend to reapply over the winter months. Cum the spring & his Suzuki Vstrom always looks in great shape though. I was wondering if it was easy to obtain the XCP products as I’ve not come across it in my part of North Yorkshire. Would Amazon be the place to go first? Really glad you’ve got the Transalp & looking forwards to the head to head with the NC.

      Hi John, @johndavy8801 , thanks for the feedback, the results surprised me too! Yes, you can get the XCP products through Amazon or Sportsbike shop: www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/279751
      Bear in mind this was on bare steel and exposed to the south coast salty winds continuously for 2 months, if you reapply the other products regularly they'd probably be fine :) Had an initial ride of the Transalp and trying to dodge the rain to get some on bike footage today, wish me luck!

      Hi John, @johndavy8801 , I was lucky with the weather today, I only got dumped on once but the wind was another story and made it's presence felt on the Transalp! The challenge I'd have with kit reviews is the funding, to be blunt. The bikes are either hired or one off loans (like the Transalp) so getting clothing to review might be hard as I'd either have to pay for all the clothing or persuade the manufactures that as a small channel they need to give me some kit to review. Hmm. Leave it with me...

      @BikingChap  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi, no i haven't but i hear it's a great product. I think the XCP Pro Rust Blocker is more like a light Waxoyl product and the next level up would be products like Lanoguard. While there's excellent as a protective for car chassis etc they might be a bit more of a heavy coating that might not look great on many bike surfaces. That said i did use black waxoyl on the upper edge of my Yamaha's swing arm and it was tucked away and the heavy coating was nearly invisible. Horse for courses?

    • @garryfoster2928

    • @BikingChap

      @@garryfoster2928 exactly, I think that's the way I would play it. Use the lighter weight products where it's more on show (and easy to reapply if needed) and then the full on wax products like lanoguard where it's hidden and less easy to re-apply regularly. Good luck!

      Hi @kevindarkstar , yes I did watch the Bennetts test which they did well i thought. What I was keen to see was how in translated to a real life environment here in the UK. I was also keen to include the Muc Off HCB-1 because I think that was released after Bennetts did their test. It was reassuring to see broadly the same results. :)

    • @kevindarkstar
      @kevindarkstar 7 місяців тому +1

      @@BikingChap yeah I believe you're right on the muc off, but it's helpful to actually see what works and what is not so good, I believe it was said that xcp came out with the clear coat because customers wanted something which wasn't as sticky as the original rust blocker, as I believe muck and grit stuck to it making the bike look a lot dirtier, so they came up with clear coat as an alternative

    • @BikingChap
      @BikingChap  7 місяців тому +1

      @kevindarkstar yep I think I've read that re the Clear Coat too. I think in fairness it's a question of using the right product for the application. You *could* spray everything in Waxoyl and then use gallons of paraffin in spring to wash it all off but I wouldn't recommend it. I will leave the various bits of steel out in the garden to see how long it is before the weather does break down the original rust blocker, if it survives the winter I might find other uses for it.

The only experience of that I had was FS365, many years ago, which I sprayed nearly everywhere and the overspray on the seat rotted the OEM seat covering after a short period of time. • @BikingChap
      @BikingChap  23 дні тому +1

      Good question! The Orange can sits somewhere between a wax coating like 'Waxoyl' and a traditional product like ACF50 that leaves an oily film. The Clear Coat I tested is significantly thinner and less effective. That said there is a new Mark 2 Clear Coat out now and I'll be testing that shortly. In answer to your question I'd happily use the orange can on a new bike but perhaps try to avoid using it for a while after applying it to minimise the muck that will stick in the coating.
