    Throughout the 2000s, the Gosselins unknowingly set the blueprint for UA-cam family vlogging with their TLC show Jon and Kate Plus 8. After nearly two decades in the public eye, we can now look back on their tumultuous history of fame and analyze what rampant exposure can do to the children caught in the middle.

      He also pointed out it's not fair. I think the guy was warning Jon he needed to be careful what he said publicly because it could be used against him in a custodial battle. Because it could be. It's called parental alienation. It doesn't matter how justified it is, a family court judge almost always looks down on a parent who says bad things about the other parent even if the bad things are all true.

      I'm so curious of the psychology behind that.. You're so right and I related it to every child abuse case i've read about, viewed in person or via shows. Why, what makes them choose one? It reminds me of the Simpsons when the bully could smell Lisa Simpson under the desk

    • @ndawn90
      @ndawn90 5 місяців тому +44

      @@tumble0weedToxic families often develop a "scapegoat" to serve as a single point of blame for the toxicity within the family. The scapegoat essentially allows the rest of the family to maintain plausible relationships with one another, because anything that goes wrong in their relationship can simply be blamed on the scapegoat. Children often join in on the targeting of the scapegoat as a protective mechanism, because if the scapegoat stops existing, they might become the scapegoat themselves. Additionally, children are often unaware of how toxic their family dynamic is, because they don't know anything else.
      The choice of which child is the scapegoat is usually arbitrary, but your odds of becoming the scapegoat increase if you are different in any way from the rest of the family, i.e. if you're neurodivergent, if you're a different gender, if you have atypical gender expression (particularly if you're an effeminate boy/AMAB), or if you look different from your siblings (different hair color, eye color, etc. You're also extremely likely to become a scapegoat if you have different parentage from the other children, especially if the main adult abuser is not blood related to you.

I couldn't count the number of times I've imagined feeling relief when she dies, but the reality is, I will never have had a mother who loved me unconditionally and who made me feel safe and valued. Her death won't change the heartbreak for me. I know why she is the way she is, but it doesn't excuse the behavior. She's had years of opportunity to have healing for herself so that she could be a better person. That's on her. I feel awful for kids like us who had to endure mothers like ours. The deep pain never really goes away, but you can heal enough to do better for your own kids and you can learn more about why mothers like ours are the way they are. I have learned to have compassion for my mom and her deep rooted issues, but I will never understand why she didn't choose to overcome it for her own children. That's the part that hurts the most, just knowing they didn't want to deal with their own trauma in an effort to have better relationships with their own children going forward. They're just stuck in a world where they will always be a victim and everyone else is the reason they act the way they do. To all of you who have moms like this, I see you, and I'm so very sorry for the hurt you've endured. However, you ARE valued, and you ARE enough, and you ARE loved.
