    Note about lighter tripods and the M50, it's really only well suited when using wide angle lenses at long exposures. Putting a telephoto lens on it may tip the scales up to be just a bit too much for some lighter tripods, especially once you mount a flash on it.

    We shot all of our latest travel videos on the M50 and we are very happy to have chosen that one as our first "real" camera as a step up from a smartphone. The thing that could be better though is probably the IS. At the moment, I feel there is no competition at that price point for an all-around video Vlogging cam. What do you guys think?

  • @kofuzi

    interesting take. but canon's decisions to only go so far as 24fps for 4k and only 60fps for 1080 are weird to me.

      @TheEverydayDad  6 років тому +3

      Its not only 1080p 60fps, you can do 24, 30, or 60. I just use 60 the most when I'm out and about because I like slowing footage down.

      What?

    • @TheEverydayDad
      @TheEverydayDad  6 років тому +7

      That's not necessarily true. Some cameras have no problem 120 fps. But in an effort to not overwhelm memory cards or require more memory cards some cameras drop the bitrate of 120 fps.
      So sometimes that's true but not always.

    If Sony just put in a flip out screen, we could all rejoice ;) Canon would have to add in a lot more features to compete, since it's the only feature they have right now over Sony. It's a deal breaker feature too, can't believe Sony hasn't caught on yet. If the a6700 or a7s III don't have it, I give up hope for Sony.

      I'm not sure what Cannon offers in the department of remote shooting, But Sony has a Play Memories app that gives you a live view and quite a few settings right on your phone. So the articulating screen not as big of a concern for occasional self shooting.

      We would have more zombies walking around with Sony's horrific blue and green tints in picture quality !!! M50 with lenses murders the Sony in terms price and picture quality and easy of use!!! The Canon is so easy to use that I just keep shooting all day and mess around with different settings and features!!! What's the use of having better specs but don't perform as well in the real world??

      @andykirby 6 років тому

      The Everyday Dad yes true, from my experience you need a fairly big lens with OSS in the lens too for it to work best. The 10-18 f4 works best for run and gun vlogs, or if you can handle the size of the 18-105mm it really gives you flexibility with its extra reach.

  • @TNRVG

    Can the M50 be plugged into a power bank while recording to extend battery life? I do that with my Sony HDR-AS50 which extends its record time almost indefinitely (based on how may external batteries I have with me and sd card size). It's one of the last things I need to know before I start my "saving money for M50" phase of life.

    • @dtlim88
      @dtlim88 6 років тому +1

      From my deep research, and I mean deep, since I'm also planning on getting one, No. It does not support recording while plugging in to an external battery. You're just gonna have to buy extra batteries.

    • @TNRVG
      @TNRVG 6 років тому

      That sucks. The Sony HDR-AS50 I have been using can be hooked up to an external battery. It's going to suck if I am in the middle of a fight and have to change the battery out.

    So I'm an a6500 user and I actually agree with everything he's talking about here. It's a beautiful camera the a6500 but isn't meant for vlogging and UA-cam work, it's on another level when it comes to quality, and maybe this is an exaggeration but you wouldn't use a Red Camera for vlogging either, it would be redundant. The same can be said for the a6500, as a camera, it is a better camera than the M50, that's not even up for debate, it's more powerful, has a better image, better 4K, IBIS e.t.c. - however that's not what he's talking about, we're talking "UA-cam Camera" not "Cinematography", which is what I primarily use the a6500 for.

    • @nightdonutstudio
      @nightdonutstudio 4 роки тому

      It is 6k downsampling to 4k. It has more detail than regular 4k sensor camera. And it has slog2 slog3. I see no issue for a6500 to create cinematic image. The only issue might be no 10 bit code.

    • @PetrosofSparta
      @PetrosofSparta 4 роки тому

      @@nightdonutstudio Made an entire film here on UA-cam that has over 1.7 million views now with an a6500 (and it's bigger cousin the A7iii for a few shots). So yeah, not really about the camera, it's about how the tools are used. But it sure helps to have the right tools.

    • @ptcjones1968
      @ptcjones1968 6 років тому

      The only time the screen needs to flip out to the side is taking a selfie. All other occasions, the screen can be folded back flush into the body of the camera. It's great to turn the screen inwards when traveling or using the EVF for protection.

    • @chloescanlon1107
      @chloescanlon1107 6 років тому

      Wrong. What about if I want to shoot from above or below? I don’t want to be having to pull it on and out all the time like an idiot. The flip out screen is an absolute pain, but to understand this you really need to shoot it in a quick moving, high pressure situation.

    • @Chibling

It will be shooting be shooting alongside I can't in 5D mark 4 and 90D, all using the Technicolor Cinestyle profile for beautifully-matched color. Although this camera does not have it's not have the best 4K for me (I output 30fps), it is intended exclusively for 1080 gimbal work. • @FarEastSurvival
    @FarEastSurvival 6 років тому +2

    a6500 has in body stabilization. It shouldn't overheat recording 1080p. It has a mic input. Many websites prefer the image quality of the Sony a6500 vs the M50. Sony has a weather sealed body too. Canon has the flip screen and that's about it. You dont need the flip screen for vlogging because you should be using a wide angle lens when you vlog so pretty much you will always be in the frame. Just some thoughts..

    • @ptcjones1968
      @ptcjones1968 6 років тому

      Comparing websites is no guarantee. I've seen fanboys post stuff that has made me realize not to trust everything I read or watch. They usually understate positive attributes and overplay the negative, a bit like your comment, in fact. The M50's biggest criticism is the 4K, which if that's your thing, is a legitimate concern and you may want to shop elsewhere. However, for casual users, crop factors can be overcome with a wider lens such as the 11-22mm because the price factor of this camera allows for that over the competition. My favourite feature though is the Bluetooth and how I can geotag my photos using my iPhone. I can also access my photos anywhere, even with the camera off and in my backpack, to email when I'm out and about.

    • @the808trader7

      @@ptcjones1968 I genuinely don't know this, but doesn't Sony have an app that does the same thing? I think it's called the play memories app store. Looks like they have geo tagging, transfer over network to phone / camera etc. I've never owned a Sony camera or tried to use these apps so I don't know how well they work. I'm actually researching between these two cameras and found this comment thread interesting. Let me know what you think especially if you have experience using the Cannon transfer features and geo tagging

    Hi mate!
    I am looking at either the Sony A6300 or the Canon M50.
    it will be my first camera and i will be using it for Vlogging, video in my room for youtube videos, recording daily activities either selfie mode or normal mode, recording activities, sporting events/me playing sport, family/social events and also taking pictures however priority will be video with photos being secondary.
    I have managed to come across the A6300 with the kit lens for $1090 AUD and the Canon M50 with the kit lens for $699 AUD. (offer for a short time only)
    My initial worry and still is the heating of the Sony cameras, we're not able to refund the item here in AUS as we don't have the 30 day return/exchange as some stores in the US do as ive been told and heard about. So buying one is crucial. Given all that data mate and your personal experiences which should i go and which would you go personally?
    4K at times would be nice but not needed on my end tbh, either all both 4K is terrible given the timing limit on Sony and the crop on Canon.
    Any help is greatly appreciated mate! Look forward to hearing back from you shortly.

      I like both cameras and I used the a6300 myself for a very long time as my primary camera. It will really boil down to do you need that flip screen or do you want usable 4K? If you want 4K get the a6300, if you really want the flip screen get the m50 👍

      @@TheEverydayDad Thanks for replying!!
      The m50 is normally 899 AUD down to 699 for a few days and i got a store to be competitive and offer me the sony a6300 for $1090 including the kit lense (1199 body alone and 220 for lens normally).. whats worth the money in your opinion? is the Sony worth the extra 400 dollars considering i live in Australia (hot climate) and might have to worry about the heating issue everyone seems to talk about in every video? Or is the M50 bang for buck and at the same level if just under the Sony?
      Question does the heating occur during 1080p videos? at a high FPS? im hearing mixed reviews online..

      I can’t say which is better for you personally. But again the big question is do you want usable 4K? Then the a6300 will do it but you’ll have heating problems. Or do you want the flip screen? I personally use an m50 over the Sony’s for my out and about camera but that’s because I don’t need 4K when I use it.

      @@TheEverydayDad Yeah thats fair enough - but i was wondering is it definitely worth spending the extra 400 to get the sony for its features and functionalities?
      I wouldn't mind using 4K to capture some quality B-roll but i'm guessing 1080p will do that fine also? again sorry mate, this would be my first camera on a budget so trying to get the best out of the camera as possible and need all the assistance possible.
      How do the two work in low light situations for the M50 and A6300? are you able to expand on that? If i was outside after sunset say 8pm or so, how would the two cameras record/respond?
      Thanks again for the quick responses mate - greatly appreciate it!

    Good job on the comparison of the two cameras. I agree that the both have strengths and weaknesses. My biggest frustration with the a6300 is that the screen does not flip, and just as bad, they do not have full touch screen. Why can't Sony add the ability to change menu settings from the touch screen (especially with all the Sony tabs in the menu)! I know the a6500 has touch focus, so why they limit it to just focus is beyond me. Thanks for the comparision.

    While I think the M series is underrated a bit this camera misses a bunch. Mushy 1080, mushy 4K, POOR lens selection. No AF in 4K. There is no denying touch screen capability is great, but so is Panasonic, and it has flippy screen with great video, and useable but not great AF. M43 lens selection also destroys Canon M. I’m glad you like it but don’t personally see the value.

    It’s amazing how pathological the hate against the M50 is. People can’t accept it’s actually an amazing value camera. Personally I think the hate comes from canon being the “Big brother” and Sony and Panasonic being the little brothers in terms of group perception. So this develops into a pathological irrational attachment to the underdog brands, because it’s human nature to want to challenge the alpha, or leader of the group.
    It’s just bloody tribal, some people just aren’t woke enough to see this.

    • @Al-qf1jj
      @Al-qf1jj 5 років тому

      The sad part is that most of the "haters" have never even used the camera. They are simply repeating what they read/hear. Then there are the fanboys who believe that anything they own is the best. The truth is that you can use virtually any decent camera to shoot great video. What sets the pros apart from everyone else is their vision and artistic eye. I have seen horrible videos made with $6000+ cameras. I have also seen amazing videos made with "cheap" cameras. The difference? The person standing behind the camera.
