Seriously Dude, THE most comprehensive review I've seen of the M50. You've earned a subscriber for your thorough, frank and delightful perspective! Keep up the brilliance! ^_^ X
That's very kind of you to say, thanks very much. I would like to, but had to return it to B&H. I tried to borrow one from Canon Canada, but they have none to lend.
I’ve watched a bunch of reviews on this camera, and I feel yours gives the best overall impression of the camera from a photographer’s perspective. Well done.
Very Thorough!… I'm enjoying mine, even though it's pitched as a beginners camera, I'm finding it is a godsend. Initially I got is for street photography, but I've tried it out in events with the EF adapter and it slays!… I left my 5D2 at home, shot just with the M50, and the quality is superb. It takes a bit of getting used to, using the EVF and not seeing the flash! which is a bit weird. On the Street, silent mode it actually silent, (once you find where it's hidden in the menu) and the autofocus is superfast. Sometimes, I've found the EVF takes a second or too to come up from sleep in eco mode, but the camera still fires and takes the picture irrespective which is great. Night images are clean, shot some with a 70-200 f2.8 with the EF adapter, I'm absolutely loving the vibrant colours, the weight and as a result, this camera. Only downside so far is the battery. Having said that, It's teaching me to pace myself with just one battery, particularly on the street. It's like having one role of film; you got to make every shot count. I'm considering getting rid of my 5D, 7D, and 70D's…
Dodi, I think the image quality is better than the 5d mk2. Having said that, I've decided to keep the 5D2, for events, as the battery life on it is way better than the M50. I'm learning that you really need an arsenal of cameras in order to get the best all round. M50 for street photography, 5D2 for events, 7D for wildlife and sports, and 70d for video… You can get all those bodies for around £1500. I'm still after a 6D2, as I love full frame, and the lens selection it offers. Prices on the 6D2 seem to keep falling as people slay it online. That's good for me, I'll probably trade-in one of my 70d's to get it, and my line-up will be complete.

Great review I have no experience with dslr or mirrorless cameras I record with a camcorder but it’s time I upgrade having problems what would you recommend this or the sl2 I only need it for UA-cam videos thanks
Sure, either is a good choice. The SL2 is a little more versatile, as it supports standard Canon lenses, but that also makes it a little heavier. Mirrorless cameras are generally a little more video friendly.

Thanks, I appreciate your kind words. In general, all mirrorless cameras have inferior battery performance to DSLRs, as they always have to light up one screen or another. The exception are Sony models that use the new Z battery, which have the best battery life of all.
No frills review, loved it. Learned even more about my M50! Hi Marteen! I already watched a lot of reviews about canon m50 and your review really detail & informative (for me).. I like the way you review this stuff.. Warm regards from Indonesia
Hi Maarten. Cheers for the video. Very informative and helpful. I'm going to buy the M50 (body only). I'm currently undecided on which lens I'll buy for it. It's between the 10-18 and the 11-22. I'm aware that the 10-18 would require an adaptor which will cost extra. But the 11-22 is more expensive than the 10-18. Ultimately the pricing works out exactly the same (the adaptor + the 10-18 costs the same as the 11-22 alone). I plan to shoot the majority of my videos indoors (either with natural light from the window or with light from soft boxes). Which of the two lenses would you recommend? Do you know if there's much difference between the quality? I read somewhere that the 10-18 performs better for indoor shooting as the 11-22 doesn't do so well in low light....Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
I would suggest that you would get better performance from a native lens, particularly for video. I haven't had the opportunity to compare side by side - so can't really provide much guidance.
I had great trouble connecting my camera to my smartphone but your instructions, out of a number videos, was the one that worked for me so thank you very much ☺
Maarten Heilbron I am really into GX85 and the only factor here for me is the articulating screen. I no longer consider the E-PL9 due to its lack of viewfinder and the screen swivels downward which is not useable if in the tripod.
Thank you for your kind words, appreciated. I'm afraid that's a question that even Canon will have trouble answering. The release of the EOS-R may have them rethinking their mirrorless strategy.
Hi Maarten, I am considering the m50 or the 77d. I prefer the m50 because I see mirrorless as the future, but the lack of lens is troubling. The 77d however has a wide variety of lens available. What do you recommend?
I would not choose a mirrorless camera for that reason - however, if the reason is weight/size, or that you shoot more video than stills, mirrorless can be a better choice. If you are concerned about lens selection and quality, I'd pick the 77D.
Great review. Love the part about Canon's baffling M Series naming system. In my opinion your review of the on screen menu system is the most helpful part of the review. I own the M 100 and I find navigating the menu screens challenging, if I'm not carrying the user guide. I hope you will review the M 6 II when it's released.
One of the best video out there, outstanding job! Just one thing, at 6:16 if you want it to act as a light meter you need to half press the shutter and the indicator will show you how many stops you're under/over exposed
@@MaartenHeilbron But i can use the adapter on m50, don't I? Sorry for so many questions. I'm really confused about which one to pick. Since 80D costs around 400$ more. I really need to know if it is worth that extra 400$ :)
@@wavesofnature Yes, but using an adapter is a compromise. In my mind it would be - but you can find other Canon DSLRs that are less that would also be better.
Thank you Maarten, you made this easy to follow. I made the decision to buy one based on this review. I have seen several, you made it very clear to me why I should.
If you liked the camera from this review, nothing about this camera has changed in the interim making it any less attractive. And thanks, it was a pleasure to read your kind words.
Without a better understanding of your style, needs and intentions it's not possible to suggest which is better for you. They are both fine cameras that create high quality images. If there's an edge, I'd give it to Sony that has a better selection of higher quality native lenses.
Thanks for your kind words. I was trying to test the tracking, but could not get it to lock on - in the video you see one of about a dozen attempts with varying approaches. I even tried stopping the train, locking on and then restarting it.
I don’t know. What would the beginner like to do with a camera? Is weight an issue? Does the beginner understand or care about the difference between mirrorless and DSLR?
Hii sir.. Thanks for giving useful technical info... Sir I'm planning to buy dis I heard by someone dis camera had focusing issue.. Is it real? It's best for short films making?
Thanks for your review Maarten. One subject no one has touched reviewing this camera is the video quality and bit rate: How good is it? From your video it seems that it is mired with false color and moiré. Is that so? Would you recommend it as a video device or is money better spent on some Panasonic model?
Always my pleasure. I clocked 4K at 120Mbits - better than average, but as you note, video quality isn't great. For video, you probably get better with Panasonic.
Panasonic fundamentally has the legacy and history for video in mirrorless cameras. Currently I have the G9 which does 4K/60p. That is perhaps the next best after GH5/s
Thank you for this outstanding review. How does this compare to the Canon SL2? If you using the adapter for ef/ef-s lenses, is there any size advantage of the m50 over the SL2? Is there one of the two you recommend more? Thanks.
Thank you so much for your response. I always have to rely on youtube reviews, like yours, especially since fewer and fewer stores have cameras on display. Your reviews are outstanding. Thanks.
Great review. Just purchased one and you explained so many features my head is spinning. I wish someone would lend you one for more detailed...and slower.....explanations! Agin. Great job.
Many reviewers out there prefer to demonstrate themselves and waste the viewers' time by talking bla bla bla nedir getting to the point. This video is great: focus on the review not on the presenter, info to the point, informative. Great job sir!
good day sir maarten..i just wanna thank to all those tewching you made for photography.. i just recently bought a camera 5days ago.. a nikon d3400.. thank you.. ive watched many photography videos on youtube before deciding to bought a camera.. and one of those are you... as a beginner ive learned a lot of things on photography because of you... god bless and more blessings to come... from philippines...
Hi Maarten! Would you recommend this or an X-T100? I have ordered an X-T100 but having done more research am worried about the AF issues people are having, and can't decide if I should change to this before it's too late
Although either is fine, I wouldn't change until you've seen it. The internet seems to encourage people to make large issues of every errant thought. It's not for action sports photography, but its focus is more than capable. The X-T100 has several advantages, including Fujifilm's simulations - have you watched my review? ua-cam.com/video/H2RJYD3brb4/v-deo.html The disadvantage is the limited 4K video mode. The Canon is a good choice, with better (24 frame) video, but still not ideal. Have you considered the new Fujifilm X-T30? It's autofocus is amazing, and the video mode is outstanding.
@@MaartenHeilbron It was actually from watching your review that I bought the X-T100! I think I'm just massively overthinking the purchase instead of looking forward to getting my hands on it, as I should be. Would love the X-T30, but it's outside my price point at the moment. Thank you so much for getting back to me, I really appreciate the detail, I'll let you know what I think of the camera!
Loved the video, subscribed. I am considering buying a camera for future travels and this one is at the price point I could afford. I'll really consider your review when it comes to the time of taking a decision. Thanks a lot!
I would recommend either. Quality is about the same, features and operations are different. The variety and quality of lenses available for micro four-thirds cameras (Olympus) is better.
Canon Canada has not been very cooperative with review loans recently. The factors for making your decision are all related to your preference - cost, size, lens selection and design preference.
Maarten reviews each camera based on its own merits and doesn't do the whole fanboy thing where one brand is better than the other. He answers the questions I want to know with a pleasant personality and a little humor.
Thanks for the review! I recently got the M50 and feel it will be an excellent travel and family camera. I prefer the Fujifilm cameras for fine art work though. Keep the reviews coming and visit us in Bisbee Arizona one day!
How I'd love to come to Bisbee - thanks for the kind words and the invite. It is an excellent travel and family camera. Let me know if you use the hybrid digest mode.
Thanks for this awesome review. Subscribed because of your unbiased review. But, I am confused between M50 and Sony A6300.. I need a camera for photo and video both but in a budget. Please suggest me...
Maarten Heilbron defo opened a bottle already -) I still have to decide what to replace my 5D2 with, leaning to Panasonic ... the M50 is amazing with a 1.4 32mm I checked on Flickr ...
The most technically in-depth review on youtube about the Canon M50! I will have to watch it a couple more times after I buy the M50. (80% convinced to purchase the M50) The only Question is for Vlogging is there any other camera in your mind that will compete with the M50? The 3 crucial points for me are:- 1) Autofocus 2) Flip Screen 3) External Mic input. Kudos & Thanks Maarten.
Wich one could you help me to choose? 1. Nikon D5600 2. Canon M50 3. Fuji XT 20 /30. I want a camera por everyday shooting, street shooting and travel & vacation. Mi first camera y a Nikon D7500 but it is a little bit heavy for daily use and travel. Wich of the 3 mentioned or any other in your expirience should I consider? (No matter price) Thanks in advance. I admire you because you are very honest and love your great reviews. Greetings from Mexico.
The D5600 won't be much smaller and lighter. The M50 is limited by lens availability. I would choose the X-T30, I'm just finishing my review and find it to be outstanding on a number of issues.
Thanks for detailed review......plz help which one to buy canon 80d 0r m50.....i want to use for video purpose.....does it heat while recording continuously.................plz reply ....i want ur opinion
If video is your need, you'd like be better off with a mirrorless camera - it's less fuss. It did not overheat in my experience, shooting at room temperature (about 22C) for over 30 minutes.
I thought it was a great review, appreciate it. I also think you have a really pleasant voice, which is not always the case on UA-cam. I read in another comment that you use a Sony a6300. While the canon is cheaper and might not be a great comparison, what do you think of the m50 as an alternative to Sony?
I appreciate your kind words, thanks. I shoot (video mostly) with the Fuji X-T2 and Sony A6300. I think the Canon M50 is a reasonable alternative, however, the Sony is a little more feature rich for video. There's also a larger selection of native e-mount lenses. For better lenses you'll end up with Canon's adapter and (mostly) larger EOS lenses.
Just got a Macro manual focus lens for mine, works really nice. I had hell trying to find where you turn off "Allow shutter to operate w/o a lens. Finally found it under the wrench menu. I really like my M50.
would the M50 be an upgrade if i already have and EM5ii with 12-40 2.8 and 35-100 2.8. im looking to upgrade because i want a camera with better dynamic range and lower noise at higher ISO. or would you suggest to get a Fuji ? thank you, i love your videos
I guess ... what is there about the M50 that you find more appealing? The larger sensor might give a little better performance at higher ISOs, but you might be disappointed. A full frame sensor like the A7 III might be better, but.
@@MaartenHeilbron i like the M50 because of the Canon colors Jpeg and the dual pixel AF. The Cankn EF-M lenses are smaller than the M43 now. I get noise on my olympus em5ii on ISO over 800 specially in thr blacks. I would go fuji also but the lenses are too expensive and their zooms are big.
Can I use the eye level viewfinder with eye autofocus in continuous focus mode... In other words, if I am shooting a portrait using eye detect autofocus, will it automatically lock on th the closest eye?
I am still deciding between this M50 or the M6. M6 is cheaper, more compact but solid build, more button/dial. M50 is newer, digic 8, EVF,more focus points etc. 4K and articulating screens doesnt matter for me. The price difference is about 80$ Can you give opinion? Is the M50 worth the 80bucks?
Thank you Maarten. I will get the d5600 as I already have Nikon lenses, the 16-85, 50mm f/1.8, 40mm f/1.8 and Tamron 70-300. Thank you so much for the feedback. I really do appreciate the knowledge which you pass on through your videos. Please keep it the great work

@@sajjanmedayil1428 I don't really have any experience to offer with M lenses (other than the kit), and the selection is limited. I think the 32mm prime would be best for interviews, and the 11-22 is probably best for general shooting of scenes. Hope this helps.
Hi! Good day Mr. Heilbron I would like go ask if what's better between xt100 and M50 in terms of photos and a good video shooting for a begginer ? Thank you so much
Either would be fine, it depends on your preferences. Be guided by your wallet, your hand (how it fits) and your heart, which may prefer the look of one camera, or one brand over another.
Amazing video! Thank you for this informative explanation of these features. I haven't decided upon a camera yet; however, this has been extremely helpful with my research. I'm currently leaning between the Canon M50, SL2 or T7i.
Another question. M50 vs xt100 vs a6000 These are the mirrorless cams that are within my budget range thats available in my country right now. Mostly into pictures and seldom on vids. What can u say on which choice is best. Mainly looking for good UI and easy changing of manual settings.
Yes, about the same, image quality is more dependent on lenses, which you prefer is likely based on your familiarity with the system or the availability of a specific feature.
That was very thorough. Thank you. And nice to see the Distillery District, City Hall, and other T.O. landmarks (wish the weather would cool down, though). The M50 does seem to have a problem with 'rolling shutter', in the 4K mode.
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. Rolling shutter is fairly typical of cameras in this class - you'd have to be a demanding film maker to be bothered by it.
Hi Maarten thanks for this review. I've been considering this as a replacement for my M3. Just want to ask, I heard it's possible to extract 8MP images from the 4K video, is this true? I tried this feature (4K Photo) with the FZ1000, and I love it. But due to the small sensor, I was not impressed with the Panasonic's overall image quality. Having that feature on the M50 would make me consider it even more.
Always nice to have your comments on my videos - thank you for your kind words. If there is an in-camera way to extract stills from a video, I haven't found it. I wouldn't put a great deal of value in that feature, as the appropriate shutter for video (1/60) rarely yields good stills.
Mr. Heilbron, I just want to thank you for your honest reviews on all these cameras, specially the M50. I have noticed Canon has a Marketing machine that owns a lot of these so called camera experts. Keep up your great reviews, sir!!!
Thanks for the kind words. Honesty is the best policy. However, Canon's Canadian media relations isn't being very responsive in trying to arrange a loan of the EOS R ... is there a correlation?
Oh no, Mr. Heilbron, there is not relation what so ever. It is just an observation of my after leaning more about different cameras and watching different reviews, specially on Canons. I think Canons are great cameras yet I find most reviews in UA-cam a bit overlooking shortcomings of these Canon cameras. In all fairness as it is said, "there is no perfect camera" ...yet lets be objective and try to provide the whole picture.
For beginners like you, all are good choices. Use your wallet, your hand (how they feel and fit) and your heart (which brand or design you prefer) to decide.

Always my pleasure - and you've decided on the M50 over those two? I get the Pen9 - no viewfinder - but what was your decision point on the GX85?
Maarten Heilbron I am really into GX85 and the only factor here for me is the articulating screen. I no longer consider the E-PL9 due to its lack of viewfinder and the screen swivels downward which is not useable if in the tripod.
Thanks for adding those notes.
Thank you for the very comprehensive review! I just purchased this camera and learned quite a bit from your video!
Great to hear! Always nice to know viewers appreciate my content.
This is very helpful. I just ordered my canon m50 and I'm very excited to try it out
Glad to hear you enjoyed my video, thanks for the kind words.
As always, this is another great work here. All the best from Poland.
Thank you very much! Please say hello to all my friends in Poland!
hey Maarten, I love your work. Thanks for making these helpful videos!
Always a pleasure to hear from a viewer who appreciated my videos, thanks for commenting.
Phenomenal review. Do you think Canon will bother making more m-series lenses or is the seven (?) they made up until now going to be it?
Thank you for your kind words, appreciated. I'm afraid that's a question that even Canon will have trouble answering. The release of the EOS-R may have them rethinking their mirrorless strategy.
Verrryyy helpful and so detailed! Thank youuu!! I've been searching for a video like this on canon eos m50
You're very welcome! A pleasure to read your kind words.
Thanks for the kind words, they are always appreciated. I hope to review the M6II also.
One of the best video out there, outstanding job! Just one thing, at 6:16 if you want it to act as a light meter you need to half press the shutter and the indicator will show you how many stops you're under/over exposed
I'm thankful for your kind words, thanks.
And thanks for the tip. Most cameras show without the soft press.
Hey, that was a great review.
What would you suggest between m50 and Canon 80D for 'photography' considering the price and value?
I'd absolutely take the 80D, a substantially better camera that offers lots of lens availability for every purpose.
I was using Nikon. Finally after watching this video, I bought today one m50. Thanks, Kebede Dache from Ethiopia! Cheers
So happy to hear that you found my video useful, thanks for commenting. And please say hello to all my friends in Ethiopia.
one of the best reviews. direct and specified!
That was very kind of you to say, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thank you Maarten, you made this easy to follow. I made the decision to buy one based on this review. I have seen several, you made it very clear to me why I should.
It's great to know that my video was useful for you. Thanks for commenting.
What an amazing review. ..great job...so is that camera still good for 2020??
If you liked the camera from this review, nothing about this camera has changed in the interim making it any less attractive. And thanks, it was a pleasure to read your kind words.
Maarten Heilbron thanks .
Maarten Heilbron i mean if there is another camera that compete with in 2020 ..anyway ..thanks for your reply .
@@manazdays Then, and now, there's lot of competition. Consider the Sony A6100 or the Fujifilm X-T30.
Maarten Heilbron thanks
Hello Maarten . If you had to choose between m50 and sony a 6300 ? What should you choose for UA-cam videos .. ?
The viewfinder says that the M50 is the better choice for UA-cam videos.
Thank you so much Maarten
Always happy to help.
Very informative video.
In your experience, what's it's better, sony a6300 or canon m50?
Thank you in advance
Without a better understanding of your style, needs and intentions it's not possible to suggest which is better for you. They are both fine cameras that create high quality images. If there's an edge, I'd give it to Sony that has a better selection of higher quality native lenses.
Thanks for the review Maarten. Did you test the focus tracking in video with the train? That would be a good test too.
Thanks for your kind words. I was trying to test the tracking, but could not get it to lock on - in the video you see one of about a dozen attempts with varying approaches. I even tried stopping the train, locking on and then restarting it.
Which one is better deal between canon M50 and Panasonic gx85 for travel and family photography?
Thank you
Both are good choices for all kinds of photos.
for a beginner which is a better buy, this canon eos m50 or nikon d5600?
I don’t know. What would the beginner like to do with a camera? Is weight an issue? Does the beginner understand or care about the difference between mirrorless and DSLR?
Hii sir.. Thanks for giving useful technical info... Sir I'm planning to buy dis I heard by someone dis camera had focusing issue.. Is it real? It's best for short films making?
Always happy to help, thanks for your kind words. I did not find a focussing issue.
I'm anxious to review the G9, however, Panasonic Canada doesn't share my enthusiasm and I'm still waiting for a review unit.
Thank you for this outstanding review. How does this compare to the Canon SL2? If you using the adapter for ef/ef-s lenses, is there any size advantage of the m50 over the SL2? Is there one of the two you recommend more? Thanks.
I would probably recommend the SL2. Using the adapter and the larger lenses puts the m50 off balance.
Thank you so much for your response. I always have to rely on youtube reviews, like yours, especially since fewer and fewer stores have cameras on display. Your reviews are outstanding. Thanks.
I'm always happy to help - and most grateful for your kind words.
Very well put together, and fun to watch with the applied humour. Thank you. Subbed
How kind, I appreciate your comments and the subscription.
This will be my first camera!
Woohoo!
Great review. Just purchased one and you explained so many features my head is spinning. I wish someone would lend you one for more detailed...and slower.....explanations! Agin. Great job.
Thanks for your kind words. Please note that this was a review, not a tutorial.
Does it have the utility software that allows you to see live what you are shooting?
Although I didn't try it, I understand that Canon does provide software to allow tethered shooting.
Many reviewers out there prefer to demonstrate themselves and waste the viewers' time by talking bla bla bla nedir getting to the point.
This video is great: focus on the review not on the presenter, info to the point, informative. Great job sir!
It's always a pleasure to know that viewers appreciate my style and my content, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Excellent and very informative video - I'm waiting for my M50 to arrive and will be delving back into this video again. Thank you very much Maarten.
I'm thankful for your kind words - am I wrong, or is the M50 turning into a bit of a sleeper hit?
Here in South Africa there's a three-month backlog on M50s, they sell out as soon as they arrive. I can't wait to get mine.
Yes, I understand it's a very popular model - we saw a lot of photographers with it on our last trip.
good day sir maarten..i just wanna thank to all those tewching you made for photography.. i just recently bought a camera 5days ago.. a nikon d3400.. thank you.. ive watched many photography videos on youtube before deciding to bought a camera.. and one of those are you... as a beginner ive learned a lot of things on photography because of you... god bless and more blessings to come... from philippines...
How kind of you to say, thanks for taking the time to comment, appreciated.
Always happy to help. I'm sure you'll pleased.
Loved the video, subscribed. I am considering buying a camera for future travels and this one is at the price point I could afford. I'll really consider your review when it comes to the time of taking a decision. Thanks a lot!
Always nice to read that my videos are useful and appreciated, thanks!!
Maarten do you recommend the M50 or the Olympus OM-D E-10 Mark III? It would be primarily for travel and street photography!
I would recommend either. Quality is about the same, features and operations are different. The variety and quality of lenses available for micro four-thirds cameras (Olympus) is better.
Cheers Maarten!
Hi Maarten, I'm torn on deciding between the Canon M50 and the SL3 for vlogging. Please help! (Possible comparison video?)
Canon Canada has not been very cooperative with review loans recently. The factors for making your decision are all related to your preference - cost, size, lens selection and design preference.
I like your reviews, descriptive and honest.
That's very kind, thanks for commenting.
Maarten reviews each camera based on its own merits and doesn't do the whole fanboy thing where one brand is better than the other. He answers the questions I want to know with a pleasant personality and a little humor.
Maarten was very pleased to read your comments, and thanks you for your kind words.
Both are good choices for those tasks. Choose with your wallet, your hand (which feels better) and your heart or brand preference.
Great video! How is the dynamic range compared to the Canon SL2? Thanks!
Thanks for your kind words. I don't really have the tools to compare - you'll find excellent detail at dpreview.
man he really REALLY knows his stuff! sheesh I've watched this 3 times already
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words.
This is an amazing review/instruction, no one covers so much so fast!!
Thanks for the kind words. Is it time to call Guinness?
Maarten Heilbron defo opened a bottle already -) I still have to decide what to replace my 5D2 with, leaning to Panasonic ... the M50 is amazing with a 1.4 32mm I checked on Flickr ...
hehe - was referring to the Guinness Book of World Records ...
The most technically in-depth review on youtube about the Canon M50!
I will have to watch it a couple more times after I buy the M50. (80% convinced to purchase the M50)
The only Question is for Vlogging is there any other camera in your mind that will compete with the M50?
The 3 crucial points for me are:-
1) Autofocus
2) Flip Screen
3) External Mic input.
Kudos & Thanks Maarten.
Thanks for the kind words, always appreciated. You might also consider the Sony A6400, its autofocus is outstanding.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you. I will review the A6400 & let you know what I bought.

Wich one could you help me to choose?
1. Nikon D5600
2. Canon M50
3. Fuji XT 20 /30.

Wich of the 3 mentioned or any other in your expirience should I consider?
(No matter price)
Thanks in advance. I admire you because you are very honest and love your great reviews.
Greetings from Mexico.
The D5600 won't be much smaller and lighter. The M50 is limited by lens availability. I would choose the X-T30, I'm just finishing my review and find it to be outstanding on a number of issues.
Maarten Heilbron thanks a lot for your answer! I'll be waiting for your review!
Thanks for your patience.
By far the best review of the M50 I have seen. I subscribed. Thanks.
A pleasure to read your kind words, thanks for commenting.
Thanks for detailed review......plz help which one to buy canon 80d 0r m50.....i want to use for video purpose.....does it heat while recording continuously.................plz reply ....i want ur opinion
If video is your need, you'd like be better off with a mirrorless camera - it's less fuss. It did not overheat in my experience, shooting at room temperature (about 22C) for over 30 minutes.
im leaning towards Sony A6000 and then i saw your video... im torn now.. anyway, it doesnt have a remote infrared ?
What are your needs that require an infrared remote? Maybe Canon's remote app provides the function you require.
Great video. I just purchased a M50 and with a 22mm lens it produces gorgeous videos for vlogging and takes fantastic night shots.
Thanks for the kind words, I'm so happy to hear you've found a camera that pleases.
On most cameras that setting is not where you expect it to be.
@@MaartenHeilbron for sure
Great video!
Nice to hear you appreciate my work, thanks for commenting.
Nice video. I want to get a camera, should i go for the m50 or t7i, please advice.
I'd take the T7i.
@@MaartenHeilbron thanks a million.
Always happy to help.
can we somehow compare mirrorless to mirror cameras ? is the picture qualisty the same ?
Given the same/similar sensor and lens, there is no difference in quality.
Hi, I am having issues to match pictures from c100 with Sony 6500. Maybe in this case M50 is better option for b cam for c100 mkII?
Have you tried using a colour reference chart? I often use the DSC labs Chroma Selfie: bhpho.to/2FeRpHC
would the M50 be an upgrade if i already have and EM5ii with 12-40 2.8 and 35-100 2.8. im looking to upgrade because i want a camera with better dynamic range and lower noise at higher ISO. or would you suggest to get a Fuji ? thank you, i love your videos
I guess ... what is there about the M50 that you find more appealing? The larger sensor might give a little better performance at higher ISOs, but you might be disappointed. A full frame sensor like the A7 III might be better, but.
@@MaartenHeilbron i like the M50 because of the Canon colors Jpeg and the dual pixel AF. The Cankn EF-M lenses are smaller than the M43 now. I get noise on my olympus em5ii on ISO over 800 specially in thr blacks. I would go fuji also but the lenses are too expensive and their zooms are big.
@@juanalvarado7794 Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Can I use the eye level viewfinder with eye autofocus in continuous focus mode... In other words, if I am shooting a portrait using eye detect autofocus, will it automatically lock on th the closest eye?
Eye autofocus does not work in servo (continuous) mode.
May I ask you M6 and M50 which one should I pick? I rarely take video. many thanks
Either, in quality terms they're close to identical. So whichever one is a better match for your hand or your wallet.
I am still deciding between this M50 or the M6.
M6 is cheaper, more compact but solid build, more button/dial.
M50 is newer, digic 8, EVF,more focus points etc.
4K and articulating screens doesnt matter for me.
The price difference is about 80$
Can you give opinion? Is the M50 worth the 80bucks?
That is a tough decision - Canon has made these cameras too similar.
Maarten Heilbron Yes. By the way, your video is so good and informative.
Thanks for your kind words, always appreciated.
Thank you Maarten. I will get the d5600 as I already have Nikon lenses, the 16-85, 50mm f/1.8, 40mm f/1.8 and Tamron 70-300. Thank you so much for the feedback.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words, it's always nice to know my videos are helpful.
Another question. M50 vs xt100 vs a6000
These are the mirrorless cams that are within my budget range thats available in my country right now. Mostly into pictures and seldom on vids. What can u say on which choice is best. Mainly looking for good UI and easy changing of manual settings.
I can't make your decisions for you, but of those, I'd probably take the M50, either way, it's an inexpensive entry level camera.
Very detailed in-depth review. Nice!
Thank you for your kind words.
Thank you sir. How does the Nikon D5600 compare to the 77d, is it about the same?
Ok then. Thanks Maarten.
always happy to help
What is the pressable button under the AF-assist beam next to the lens. Thanks
I think you are referring to the Lens release button.
Thanks for reinforcing my methods.
I have been waiting for your input on the m50. Thank you!
Alway my pleasure to know that my reviews have been worthwhile viewing.
Sir, no one review a camera as detailed as you, subscribed..
for beginners like me, better Eos m50, SL2, 800d, or lumix G7?
For beginners like you, all are good choices. Use your wallet, your hand (how they feel and fit) and your heart (which brand or design you prefer) to decide.
