That hat was destiny for her. I've seen this video countless times and I can't get over how perfectly it accentuates her own look; and also, how her own look, from her eyes to the shape of her mouth, especially when she smiles big (and don't take it wrong...I'm not 'perving out"...I'm talking aesthetically)....her own face compliments the look of the hat. Like...that was exactly the perfect hat for exactly HER face.

Lol it really is hard to believe. This was one of my first "favorite songs" that I remember recording off the radio on a cassette recorder. Somewhere buried in my grandparents basement is a box of those tapes. And one that says "4 mom blonds hey-ay" because that's what I thought the radio dude called them 😂😂
It's even harder to believe that music hasn't gotten better in 30 years. They say that societies tend to only get better as they advance, but music sometimes calls that theory a liar.

It's the theme song for anyone who navigated their younger years through the 90s, and it is a rallying cry for countless others who discovered this song years later.
I understand that you were attempting to express how meaningful the song feels, but using the word "underrated" is not the compliment that you think it is. It doesn't give credit to the impact that "What's Up" had on more lives than you can imagine. This song is not "underrated", it has been rated, and it has scored more points than we can count.

That was my song in the 90s when I was a teenager. I played that song so much on my Walkman and my first CD player (it was the first album I ever owned on CD) that my parents couldn't handle it anymore. Even now with 40 years old my 70 year old mom says, the first note of the song in the radio and she knows what's up (no pun intended 😝) and thinks of me 😊

i remember my dad used to play this all the time when i was little and i HATED it! but ohhhh boy how his music taste impacted me in life so much because it has changed immensely!!! Linda Perry is super underrated. She writes a lot of songs for a lot of different people, but the one solo album that I know of by her, "In Flight", is an amazing album and in my all-time top ten. She saved all of her best songs for herself on that one.

In highschool, drinking with my friends, this was always sung by us. Oh when we would pull a fire alarm we would sing "we didn't start the fire"
They say youth is wasted on the young. I say when we get old and put in some damn "retirement community" we treat it like high school again. Pull pranks on the nurses, start a rivalry with a competing nursing home, hold a prom that it's legal to get drunk at but we still have to sneak the liquor past the front desk, smoke in the bathroom, have really slow and careful old man fist fights by where the buses park. It'll be a blast.
