I went to visit my brother at college, went to eat pizza, got in the car to leave and this song came on! We jumped out and danced and horns honking as we blocked cars but a few did join us to dance. A forever memory for all involved!!! Though God never put a restriction on dancing. Most Baptist groups are more Bible adherent than a lot of other denominations out there, but Baptist is not one denomination either. There is one Baptist group called the Primitive Baptists that reject playing with musical instruments, but only allow singing accapella and old hymns (the other denomination is called The Church of Christ) -- though the Bible says to play on all the musical instruments and to sing to God a new song. So many denominations would not exist, not even Roman Catholicism, if people were following God's words above the teachings of all the teachings of the denominations which contradicted His words.
Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. - Psalm 149:3, KJV
And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. - Exodus 15:20, KJV
And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick. - 1 Samuel 18:6, KJV
And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy. - 1 Chronicles 15:16, KJV
And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals. - 2 Samuel 6:5, KJV
As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee. - Psalm 87:7, KJV
Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps. - 1 Chronicles 15:28, KJV
And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps. - Nehemiah 12:27, KJV
More verses on link (really there is just too many), and a few things the Bible says not to do is to add or take away from the Scriptures, and those who take away the approval of God and call unclean or unholy what God has called holy, are rebelling against God's words. Jesus was not happy with the leaders of the Sanhedrin for restricting things that God Himself does not even restrict, and they thought of themselves as self-righteous, and He point blankly said that they were like white washed tombs, like those who clean the outside of a cup but leave the inside dirty, and so forth... and it is no wonder that they hated Him, because He exposed them for what they were... hypocrites.

Artist was Kenny Loggins. In the movie, the town had banned any form of dancing. The kids tended to get in trouble because they needed some form of “outlet” and they fought to turn the law to make dancing legal. This sequence is their school dance. It’s intended to look like many can’t dance, because they weren’t familiar with doing so, and didn’t know how. But the point was that they were finally able to have fun and just let loose. Where I live, this song is actually requested at nightclubs and people do go nuts. There’s no judgement on whether you can actually dance or not, because it’s meant to be crazy and fun.

Back in the 80s all of our school dances were like this. The curriculum was different back then. Once you got to high school you didn't have to take stuff like English and Math anymore. You had to take 4 dance classes per week, Elementary Collar Popping, Aqua Net 101, then Advanced Mousse Techniques. They often had ESOL Eyeliner Application, and depending on the school, remedial John Hughes appreciation. The kids who had no rhythm had to go to summer school. The trouble kids had to make all our leg warmers. In order to get your diploma you had to ace the standardized Sticking It To The Man exam.
But now there's Common Core and people wonder why everything is fubar.

We had red abs white jump ropes, red skirts, white shirts and red and white nike shoes. Had a jump rope routine to this song. We took 1st place in the parade that summer. I can still remember part of the routine. Throwing our jump ropes into three air, spinning around and them catching the jump rope. Continue on jump roping. Good times! Bro, I been with you since long before the channel blew up (congrats btw) and I just wanted to STRONGLY recommend you, as a dude who clearly loves dancing and grooving, roll up a half dozen doobies and enjoy watching the original "Footloose" movie from 1984. It's about a city boy who gets moved to a small and very christian town that literally bans dancing, and he kinda brings this city energy of rebellion and what was "cool" at the time. Once you're properly lifted, the parts that might be a bit goofy just become more funny and enjoyable. It's literally a city slicker putting a bunch of farm/small town folk onto dancing.

The second part is a remake of the first movie. The person that can't dance is Chris Penn, Sean Penn little brother. The first and original movie Footloose was the best (worth watching). Basic of the storyline is a young boy dies in a car crash after he go's out partying and drinking. So the the star of movie Kevin Bacon moves to the town where no dances or parties are allowed. They finally arrange to get a dance going and this is the result people having fun and dancing they're ass off.

Gotta remember, hon, this was done in the mid-80's. And the story behind the video is that the kids all grew up in a town that banned dancing. So no school dances, no prom. Kenny Loggins is the artist. This "final dance" is the hard-won senior prom. The kid who told his partner to just watch him couldn't dance to save his life before the guy who became his best friend took pity on him and taught him some moves.

Yup! The reason why it makes sense to start off with the kids not knowing how to dance and then getting used to it is because of the movie's plot. It'd been how many years since those kids had been allowed to dance? Yeah, the remake's dance glossed over it too quickly because they wanted to spare more time for 'ooh, pretty and good and talented'.
