A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ UA-cam. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of UA-cam I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on UA-cam won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This UA-cam channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different
This is a reaction video used to educated and give my feedback on the song and artist

Linda Perry is a badass. This was their only album, but she went on to become a big-time producer/writer for Pink and Christiana Aguilera and a bunch others.
That's sad. She's much better than they are.
@@christinerobinson9372 That ain't no lie.
Glad she found great success with other pop artists, but this is her best song.
Yep! She’s in the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame. She’s had quite the prolific career, and deservedly so.
I think Linda Perry is badass too and she is much better than the people she produces such as pink and they all look up to her those people she produces but she's so talented I wish they would do another album and thank you for your reaction room
I just imagine people in their car singing this at the top of their lungs every time it comes on. I know I do.
I still do, it's in my playlist
Same!
Same!!
Yep , it was my friend groups favourite song back in high school , when it came out ! Lol
Most definitely.... I sure do🤘
Someone mentioned Concrete Blond. I second that. Their song Joey.
Joey is great but also love God is a Bullet
Yes to both!!
@@tackle47 Tomorrow Wendy will fuck you up! Or get real freaky and go with Jonestown!
Tomorrow Wendy is a ridiculous over-the-top melodrama fest and it's awesome!
Johnette Napolitano..wow
At this point we all need to take a step outside, take a deep breath and get real high and scream from the top of our lungs, "WHATS GOING ON!"
Great comment
What's Going On - No better words spoken for today.
Sadly so. This song is nearly 30 years old. I would have hoped the world would have change somewhat since then :-/
@@redahroun I so agree with you. 🦋💮🌼
Nice comment
I like the meme from the lyrics of this song "And I scream at the top of my lungs. . . FUUUUUUUUUU. . . " 😎
Linda Perry is so nineties. She even married Darlene from Roseanne. Doesn’t get more nineties than that.
Sara Gilbert
I did not know that. 👍
@@Jelsick yeah. Sarah Gilbert & Linda Perry were together for like 20+ years. They split 2-3 years ago or so.
If she married Daria, that would be more nineties.
@@ce3586 They weren't together for 20+ years. She split from TV producer Ali Adler in 2011 and began dating Perry after that.
That singer Linda Perry- this is their only album HOWEVER Linda Perry has a long career as a music writer and producer working with Christine Aguilera and Gwen Stefani and Pink. She’s no slouch.... great talent for writing and working with several big name artists in the industry.
even Dolly Parton
I used this song to inspire my kids when they were little. They loved it! They (we)sung it at the top of their lungs. Those were the days. 👍I'll never forget😌💖🤗 Thanks for playing it. 💕
This was their biggest hit. Linda Perry is a beast!!!
Their only 🎯 hit LMAO 🤣🤣🤣
@@rhondamcbath6279
I was thinking they were a one hit wonder.
But she wrote a few of Katie Perry's hits
I think they only had one album, but Linda Perry has gone on to be one of the biggest songwriters around.
I saw them at a small park in Cincy. They were booked when they were small, but this song had become a huge hit in the interim. By the time we saw them, the small park had to hold 10,000 people!!
I was there as well. Eden Park. I used to work at the Baldwin building and went to the concert after work
I saw them in 93 at an old converted theatre that held 800 it was insane!
Can you tell by what they are wearing it's the 90's?
This song was EVERYWHERE!!!
This is one of the first CD's I ever bought. At a PX in Baumholder, Germany.
I've been in that PX, '88-90.
Ok. Now play "Faith No More - Epic". You are in MTV land now.
100%
Old school MTV. I miss those days, dude
What a voice. What a song. Just perfect
We've been asking that question since Marvi Gaye...
Excellent observation
Yep, that song (as you likely know) was why this song is actually titled "What's Up?" rather than the actual chorus question.
This is actually more ‘alternative’ rock than Rock and Roll. Definitely more early 90’s Grunge.
You need to check out The Cowboy Junkies "Sweet Jane" I thought 4NB were them at first.
thank you for reminding me of them :)
Anything by the Cowboy Junkies! A. Ny. Thing!
I was just listening to that. Great song.
Mazzy Star-Fade Into You
From the same era and a highly underrated song
Seconded - amazing.
It is in no way underrated. The album spent 58 weeks in the charts. This video now has over 1.1 billion views.
Man, I haven't heard this since my childhood lol
You’re making me feel old. 🙁 I was 26 and the whole world was still ahead for the taking!
I haven’t heard this for a while either. I have heard Adam lambert cover it a couple of times.
The Bangles are also an all female group with some great taste!! Hazy shade of winter (a cover that sounds oh so different to the Simon and Garfunkel original), Walk like an Egyptian, Eternal Flame (only after those try Manic Monday)
I love The Bangles, but Walk Like an Egyptian is not only terrible, it's a song that's universally hated by every member of the band. Most of the hate comes from the fact that they didn't write it, there's not a sound in the song that came from any of their instruments, it was a song written and produced by record producers, with their singing voices thrown in, and 2 them had their contributions end up on the cutting room floor, entirely. It also galled them that it ended up being their biggest and most recognizable hit.
@@Wungolioth it's fun and their voices do sound great. But hey eternal flame is my fav. Hazy shade of winter is a fantastic intepretation. No qualms.
This was their biggest, but I love that whole album. A couple more great songs off it, to me at least, are Spaceman and Superfly.
The Bangels and The Divinyls are some other fabulous female groups you mighy enjoy
Divinyls!! I Touch Myself
@Gerald H maybe i should have said that have a strong female performer
@@RalphMasielloArt do you want to put quotes around the song title, or were you just making a general statement? XD
@@greenpeasuit you’re a comedian
I just love the song!
I play this song at work. And I can usually get a few co-workers to sing along at the top of their lungs. This song is always a good time.
The reason certain songs get suggested suddenly is that we’ll see another reactor do a song that we love and then we want other reactors to experience as well.
Saw her years later in a small bar in Vegas. She still kicks ass vocally
Loved this song since it was released. Greetings from England, love this channel
This is the best song to sing in your car alone. I know the people next to me laugh, but how can you not try to sing loud and hit every note? I fail, but man I sound good in my own mind. Great song!
I love being in a bar and this song turns into a full bar sing-along
This whole album is great. Every song is unique and good.
One of the best "one hit wonders" ever.
The Netflix series Sense8 will make you really, really love this song.
Agree 100%!!!
If you can overlook the gross perversion that was shoved in your face.
If this song doesn't take you right back to a particular summer and the friends and girls/boys of that moment in time in a rosy haze of nostalgia then you are young!
Yes! They were all over MTV!
This song was the shit when it came out in the mid nineties and for many years after.
Classic.....
Morphine and Chocolate another great song by 4 Non Blondes.
Their Album. Bigger Better Faster More! Easily in the Top 10 albums of the 90s
I still have this album. And yes, basically a one-hit winder. The singer, Linda Perry, went on to produce and write songs for other artists.
Since you dug this check out Edie Brickell and the Bohemians "what I am"
I heard the first verse and chorus from this song in my car and turned the vehicle around to head for the record shop. I played that cassette non stop in my car for months.
Lita Ford and Ozzy Osborne's Close my eyes forever song. A need to hear song
One of the best female vocals! This was my recovery song after my first husband died.
Linda wrote the song, Beautiful for Christina Aguilera
This is one of the best feel good songs ever.
"Brandy" by Looking Glass. You'll dig it.
Oh what fond memories! One of my favs, mix between a little grunge and rock/pop. Still remember mid 90's, my ex husband, sang to this song to a crowd at a bar, San Diego, Pacific Beach strip (to a tough crowd to please)..he hit those high notes...received standing ovation. Brings tears to my eyes...he's been recently diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease.
This is one of those songs that has always been on my playlist since it came out. Cassette. Burned CD. Mini Disc. ipods. Smartphone. Always bring it along. One of them songs you sing badly at the top of your lungs when you're in the car by yourself.
Every time I hear this song I get nostalgic for the '90s
Speaking of nineties... Still suggesting you listen to Nine Inch Nails. There are literally no bad NiN songs, but a good starting point would be "Ruiner", or "We're in this together, now". Or you could watch the original of "Hurt" that Jonny Cash covered.
There were a bunch of great females in rock in the 90's. Melissa Etheridge, Alanis Morrisette, Four Non Blondes, The Cranberries, Garbage, and probably others. The 70's and 80's also had their share of female rock singers/groups.
I Love Linda Perry!❤️ She has such a crazy awesome voice. And she is so amazingly talented. Since we are in the 90’s, let’s fast forward a year. To 1994 with Blues Traveler - Four. The obvious songs to react to would be: “Hook”, “Run Around” and “The Mountains Win Again”. But the most amazing song sonically would be “Crash Burn”. Then we can move on to around 1996 with a group that I haven’t seen many people people do... Tonic! “If You Could Only See” would be great! Love the 90’s music.
Linda Perry (the singer here) does a great solo song called it F u c king hurts and Fill me up it'll touch your soul!!!!
fill me up is one of my all time favorite songs.
I love this song so much and the entire album.
Was huge when I was in college!❤️❤️
Singer also produced/wrote some of Pink’s stuff and she’s now married to Sara Gilbert.
This song is standard for any local group with a decent female singer. I hear it a lot at festivals
The Ultimate 90s Anthem Period
I danced with my best friend to this song at her wedding :) just her & I in the middle of the dance floor singing this song like we were driving in her car on a high school road trip - great reaction
I wouldn't go so far as to call them a one hit wonder, but this was far and away their biggest hit. I always loved the song. It reminds me of 60's protest music and it couldnot be more appropriate for today.
Song was ahead of its time. This has been my go to Karokee song for 20 years.
Great one-hit wonder from the 90's....
This entire album was pretty damn good. Songs like Morphine and Chocolate, Dear Mr. President, and others kick ass.
Pink said she used put her speakers in the window and blast this song to the whole neighborhood, singing at the top of her lungs. Recently, during strict lockdown, one of my neighbors was doing the same thing. I thought, "We've all had this moment in our lives."
I'm going to show my age but I don't care. As soon as that chorus started, I started singing. This song took me back!
such a timeless song. This song could come out right now and be relevant to the times...
I've always loved this song. Linda Perry's voice is powerful and this song is amazingly written. There have been many different types of rock, such as, Punk, Hard, Soft, Heavy Metal, New Wave, Grunge, Psychedelic, Blues Rock, and Alternative Rock (which is the category that 4 Non Blondes falls into).
I just love Linda Perry so much. Her and Johnette Napolitano got me through my marathon chemo infusions.
It's just one of those songs that no matter what your genre preference is you can't help but sing along
This was a huge hit and was all over the radio and MTV when it came out. I still hear it on the radio from time to time.
I just did a reaction to this one last week... and was surprised it got blocked,...lol.... I had to do a dispute.... did you??
this was their first,,,,,,and only...album..
4 Non Blondes may have been a one-hit wonder, but Linda Perry was a hit maker! Her song writing abilities are legendary!!
Linda Perry is an incredible song writer. She did quite a bit of work with Dolly Parton in the last few years, on some soundtracks. Incredible
Both my mum and I love this song. I remember us both pumping it while cleaning when I was a teenager.
Every track on this album is great. Consider doing "Dear Mr. President"
The one and only 4 Non Blondes studio album (1992) was a great album. Fronted by the incredibly unique and talented Linda Perry. Linda recorded a solo album called Linda Perry “In Flight” (1996) which is also full of great songs and performances. Later she collaborated with musician Tony Tornay to form the two person Rock band Deep Dark Robot. Their album “8 Songs About A Girl” (2011) has killer songs with tons of raunch and attitude. All great stuff by Linda Perry worth checking out.
Their whole album is great
Anytime I watch this, I am constantly aware that she's got crazy eyes XD. What a voice. This is so 90s it takes me right back. Amazing artist.
James you really need to listen to the HU (PRONOUNCED the who) especially if you like Baby Metal
Yes!!! Wolf Totem is amazing!!!
Wolf Totem!
need to check out Concrete Blonde
God is a Bullet or Joey are the best starting points
Tomorrow Wendy is another great Concrete Blonde song
In my opinion, this is one of only a handfull of nearly perfect songs from the 90's.
I watch you so I am reminded of all the songs I loved growing up in the 60s.
I bought this cassette when it was first released. "What's up" got a lot of radio and MTV play when it came out.
One of the best songs ever.....and it came out 2 decades ago++.....but got a new life after the Netflix program "Sense8" came out a couple of years ago....and it came back in a HUGE way! It is amazing and we danced, man, to this song for years! Know every word. Linda Perry, the lead singer and guitarist has written and mentored for so many people, namely PINK! Everyone has covered this song. Watch the video of this song from "Sense8"....a story of 8 people all born at the same moment from all over the world who are connected by their thoughts and actions and can be all together when they are apart...from Nairobi to San Francisco to Seoul to London...etc! Watch it. It's amazing! Pax!
Linda Perry is the 'leader' at least in this video, singing and playing the guitar. An Amazing person and performer. No one mentioned that most people think this should be called 'whats going on'... but out of respect of Marvin Gaye, they instead called it 'What's Up'... I was in my late 30's when this came out. We thought the band was going to take off any day... we worked so hard... MTV was hitting it..
This is the only song I know of by Four Non-Blondes, but I'd usually just listen to whatever got radio play at the time.
Great song.
Love love love this song! So good
The lead singer is one of the biggest producers in the music industry. She wrote or helped write most of Christina Aguilera's biggest hits. And would you believe she hated this song because of how the producers made it something into what it didn't start as? That is why the band did only one album. But she sought to change the industry and did for a time.
When this song hit in the early 90’s, we all knew it was a stone classic forever.
I saw them at new years show at The Berkeley Square when this song hit the radio. My roomates band was playing that night and bimped omto them backstage. Oh, my youth!
the 90ies were a pretty cool time. i wish i could get back too them sometimes.
What I like about it is that it is a lament about how how life is hard, but at the same time, the song is joyous, and the band is celebrating just being alive.
Still holds up just as well today .💕
Bizarre that this band became a one hit wonder with this song. So much talent.
When this song plays I sing so loud and man really feel the words!!
linda perry, the vocalist is a legendary songwriter. she was involved in many known artists. personally I love her work with courtney love the most. and she also worked with courtney for her 2010 comeback album, beautiful lyrics all over the place..
I used to listening to the dance mix of this version by DJ Miko I think and when I was a kid and it is fire :D
One of my favorite and most requested karaoke jams. So good!
Linda Perry is the lead singer. She mentored Pink's writing for "MizUnderztood" album.
Love 4 non blondes my mum use to pump this song on the weekend
This was her go to wake up and clean the house song 😂💗
They came onto the scene towards the end of the grunge phenomena. So, I think they could be considered Grunge Lite.
This song IS an anthem of the 90's. Have watched the video or listened to the song hundreds upon hundreds of times...
Other rocking all-girl groups that you'll want to check out include: the Bangles (Manic Monday, Walk Like An Egyptian, and their cover of Simon & Garfunkel's A Hazy Shade Of Winter), Indigo Girls (Galileo, Hammer & Nail, Closer To Fine), Calamity Jane (1980s group different than the 1990s group), and Cherri Bomb. But 4 Non Blondes makes me also think of the Cocktail Twins with their songs Carolyn's Fingers and Iceblink Luck.
4 non blonds is not an all girl group one is a guy
It’s always amazing having somebody react for their first time to freaking awesome music!
That whole album is awesome!
