Best 1:22:46 I've spent in a long time! I totally understand the frustration, but LOVE the T-Bird.... I hope JD keeps and tweaks the car for his DD someday! Great video!!! A+++++
You bet he will, I think it's a good one for him to learn body and paint on!
@@PoleBarnGarageWhat a awesome car. I actually had two 65s T-birds. The first one my uncle left me when I was a kid and he went off to Nam. I loved that car... A.C. am/FM radio electric seats. Disk brakes. Sequential directionals. The passenger seat would fold straight back , that came in handy with the girls. . the 2nd 65 I had when I was around 35 and lost it in a divorce.. I'm 67 now and wish I can turn back time just to have my first 65 back. Best damn car I ever owned.
❤❤
My Dad intentionally made me buy a '61 Alfa Romeo Spider left in a cow pasture when I was 18. After a year of sweat, $ and tears, she was running. He showed me how to do everything on that car, because it needed everything, engine, body, wiring and more. He said "George, now you will appreciate having a car and know how to fix one for the rest of your life". Watching you and J.D reminds me so much of my experience, it's great to watch.
Nice! Your Pop did u a solid for life’s lessons! Respect!
i wish my dad taught me how to fix cars I had to teach myself throughout the years!
@crisismcnoodle The ones from the 50's and 60's were extremely well build. The 80's ones are let down by wiring, cheap plastic and electronic fuel injection. I've got an 1968 Duetto 1750 that has been crashed several times, the engine and gearbox are original with 130 000 miles and it still runs good.
@crisismcnoodle Those are great engines that kind of mileage on a all aluminium DOHC conceived in the early 50's and pumping stock over 1hp per cubic inch is quite an achievement.
There are 3 ways to make it run 2 side draft Weber, one downdraft weber (on a 1300 intake) or a Spica mechanical fuel injection.
@crisismcnoodle You could have dual webers and pass emissions thanks to Thunderhead289 Carb Cheater. Once it runs good, a small high flow cat could even bring it to modern standards.
Man JD is growing up right before our eyes. Keep up the good work dad.
Can't wait for the next episode of COPS featuring Pole Barn Garage.
That would be epic! A shirtless Dalton, the officer asking "what's that in your pocket, sir?" Dalton answers, THESE ARE NOT MY PANTS, SIR...
Only a matter of time.
@wes11bravo Dalton would most definitely say "officer I'm just happy to see you!" When asked about what's in his pocket
All I can say is...awesome 😂
@@wes11bravo He would find a pocket full of self tappers.....
That is so badass you are building that with your son. My first ride I ever built with my dad was a 53 Ford F100. It was supposed to be my first truck but the truck driving school he worked at closed their doors. We had to sell it. He promised me I would get another one. 6 years ago we found a complete 53 Ford F100 again. 5 years ago my dad went to sleep and never woke up. You two cherish these moments because they don't last long enough and can be taken away in an instate. I can do these type of things with my son, he passed away when he was 2. Love every second you all share. Rock PBG!!!
I’m not a ford guy but the old thunder chickens are truly beautiful.
being an ausie, we have holdens. scurge of the earth.. very few chevs.. but the holden guys like 327, 350, 454, LS. with, a 9'' diff.. there holden hq racing, use ford cranks. so, after 1.4 mins of contemplation, i drive ford, & keep, it all ford.. had an american mag, with a centre fold, of chev, ford dodge. chev was basically, buy an 010 block, then give your bank details to the speed shop.. i also own a dodge challenger, 340 r/t. i like chev body design, its just the running gear thats wrong.. mate back in 70,s. bought a jag, saloon. was going to fit a 360 dodge. but no kits available, so he had to poke his eyes out, take his brain out, find an 010 block, & give his bank details to the speed shop & machine shop.. clevo heads, what chev guys dream of.. the LS , looks like an old re vamped FE.
Good sound to hear the Frogs in the background sign spring is on the way finally.
This car is in shockingly good shape. Could be much much worse for a 66
It's extremely rough lol

@@PoleBarnGarage oh my bad. Nvmd lol
@@PoleBarnGarage🤔🤔🤨🤨 NO.... FREAKING.... WAY!!!!.....THAT WAS WAY MORE THAN 1500...
THAT WAS A BUDDY DEAL !!!...
THE CRACKHEADS BRAINS WOULD EXPLODE BEFORE THEY WOULD LET THAT CAR GO FOR THAT LITTLE!!!
@PoleBarnGarage Still cleaned up decently though. The floor and the trunk are quite bad, unfortunately. But as you said, it's not worth investing a lot of money if the value of a pristine one is only around 6,000 dollars. Get it safely driveable and all the switches working properly and it'll probably soldier on for quite a while.
That shot under the car seeing all the self tappers coming through the floor was just priceless😂
Jess always does a great job on everything you give her to do Dalton, she’s amazing! Never complains, neither does JD! She never minds getting under the car or cleaning the inside! Can’t ask for more than that brother! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hell of a woman

Just joined the low buck club, my wife and I have been watching your videos for about a year and love your videos. If you're ever in the Tulsa/ Stillwater Oklahoma area and need a hand give me a shout. I've been working on junk since 1993
Cool!
Tasty jam, stopped movie night to see this. Put it on TV. Do it live. " hold up, pole barn posted!"
Aye welcome to the community!!! Around here all we do is use self tappers and make shit work!!
omg jess shooting self tappers... that almost brought a tear to my eye hahahah she has been sworn into 'Self tapper garage'
Dalton, I emailed Priority Tire from my personal email and with my Business email as well. Good Luck Buddy!
Awesome 😂
Love that thing. It's the epitome of 60s styling, really bold, characterful interior, iconic body style. Runs nice, sounds great, has all the traditional Ford stupidity you could ever want (and some Dalton probably doesn't want too!). And I just love the random extra screws stuck in the original seam sealer in the floor. Shows there weren't no robots makin' cars in 1966! I can see why JD wanted one, and might I say, he has an excellent taste in cars, although I'm mildly concerned he seems to be turning into a Ford guy... xD.
I was just wondering when you were doing to footwell sealer that putty scraper looked like it was stuck down pretty good, forever immortalised under the carpet like a little "Dalton was here, 2024".
I loved watching drunk Dalton work on those expensive brakes lol. I suggest everyone to join the club!
Drunk Dalton is ok I guess… But drinks a lot Dalton is my favorite superhero.
@@FORCE_PBC your so right!
It seems that you and Mortske have stuff in common juvenile delinquent lol
A nice trip down memory lane. I inherited a 65 Galaxy 500XL from my grandmother when she passed. It had only 42,000 miles on it. It had the T-Bird interior too, same seats but slightly different console. My mechanic put a lift thru the frame while installing a new fuel tank, I was so sad! You're also doing an amazing job teaching JD to wrench and not be at the mercy of the shop hacks. Looking forward to seeing JD drive this some day soon!
A running '66 T-Bird for $1.500...in that condition? What and absolute steal. Sign me up.
Uh.. It's pretty rough lol
@@PoleBarnGarage Good thing I like it rough!
@@PoleBarnGaragehere in va every tbird ive seen for that price is just as bad but missing so many pieces of trim on the outside, as well as the inside that would make it a net negative even if you got the thing for free.
In SC, I haven't even SEEN one that's got enough of anything left to make it worth trying to fix.
@@Dwendele I concur.
He doesn't do the best repairs, but honestly he's bringing these things back from the dead. He's doing really well-- and his kid is so natural on the camera considering his age--- most kids really can't seem to open up like this. I really like watching your content Dalton. Your family is so much fun!
As a former happy owner of a couple Jaguars in my lifetime. I do crack up each and every time you say, "The Jag."
Jaaaaaaaag 😏
Your son is the enbodiment of hands on learning. Smart lad indeed. He spotted the fuel system needed a buff and practically knew what to do without the manual in front of him. You got a golden nugget there man
Man, i always say if u find a woman that will work on a car with u then u have a keeper. So Dalton, U HAVE A KEEPER SIR!!!
Weirdo
Amen. If she’s willing to work on your junk, you’d best get interested in whatever she’s passionate about too. “We’re going to the museum Saturday? Cool!” -and, try to mean it
I've found that on frozen spark plugs - usually carbon, if it can move even 1/16th, a shot of aerokroil down there and about 30 minutes, it'll come right out.
Dalton your Son is Amazing you are a Damn Good Dad.
I've worked at the Texarkana Arkansas Cooper Tire plant for 28 years and we've built many of the cobras. I still remember when they first came out. Keep up the good videos Sir!!
That's cool! Is it still around?
Yes we are around. Owned by Goodyear now though. I think a lot of the cobras/Avenger GT's are made in Mexico though. There's a few tires like these that are the same thing, just different names and tread patterns. We also own Mickey Thompson too!!
Another wonderful rebuild!
And those cringing at the floor rebuild, if anyone buys this car later, they can cut off anything Dalton has put in and slap on the reproduction floor pans and do it right, it's not big deal at all!
Good job !
Setting in a parking lot because I thought a store opened at 8 and not 9. Was going to drive over to Walmart and get some donuts. I'll watch polebarn instead.
Most people just say those T-Birds are turds, but that car was pretty sweet. Great video, you are a good Dad Dalton.
I love the way these looked, these are my favorite years for a Thunderbird personally. That ones in pretty damn good shape too (yes I'm serious, lol, most are completely rusted out). You stole it at $1500. Glad to see you getting it back on the road instead of on some prissy showroom floor somewhere in Beverly Hills. Cars were made to drive, not look at. Look forward to the paint and bodywork on this beauty!
They're often referred to as "Flair Birds"
I wish you would put that “Dalton Special “, paint job on the ole girl? Those 390’s were awesome engines in the day! The interior looks pretty good except the carpet, I guess! Teach JD the right way dad, he’s going to be a good mechanic like dad! I noticed that JD takes a lot of initiative Dalton, he needs to learn the shortcuts and old school techniques that you learned at his age! The Pole Barn Magic! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What a crazy coincidence. I have a 65 Thunderbird I bought and bought a new 390 and trans since my motor is stuck. I'm going to be restoring mine on my channel in depth. I know you have shorter videos usually and there are a few classic bird channels on UA-cam as these are becoming much more popular now and very hard to find. I can't wait to get onto mine after a year of screwing around. You are going to have a great time with this one. These cars are just pimp once they're done. I got mine sitting on a set of 2000ish Mustang Bullitt wheels and tires, 17's and fit just fine in the back, haven't checked the front spacing. But anyways. You guys are going to love this one. Check out Joernone or Vintage Thunderbird Repair on here if you have questions. Very detailed on these birds and their quirks.
Are you selling the seized engine?
Hey dalton, If you have access to a air compressor in the shop that will run a pneumatic. Harbor freight makes a pretty great little pneumatic impact that’s super tiny. I use it constantly on my Hondas… it’s called the earthquake mine was 60 bucks and it’ll break seized axle nuts on just about anything and you can use it almost anywhere It’s tiny. I figure in all your experience you’d try a pneumatic but it’s super handy for tiny spaces especially them caliper bolts and any front end work you’d want a impact for. Thanks man for all the great content keep up the good work my man. I always look forward to watching your videos it gives me something to look forward to during the week. Your videos are great man keep it up
Old thunderbirds are probably my favorite old school car. The styling was so futuristic.
Never thought I'd want to see a '66 Thunderbird restored but here we are
My grand dad had one for the longest time. Always loved how the interior looked. It was power everything. Such a cool and underrated car.
Oh, how I wanted to be a car kid! I’m retired, 67 years old, and when asked as a young child what I wanted to be when I grew up my answer was “A concert pianist or a car mechanic.” They both require fine motor skills so I don’t think it was much of a stretch. I did become a music teacher (like my Dad) and neither parent had a bit of motor knowledge or skills. I learned and did what I could, but I am thrilled you’re teaching your son how to rebuild engines and work on vehicles. I stopped doing my own bit of car work (nothing more than carb cleaning, rotor turning / brake pad replacing, oil changing and radiator flushing) at least 35 years ago. But I ALWAYS wanted an older Thunderbird and this video just made my day. Keep it up and love them!
Freshly brewed coffee and a PBG video. Today's starting off great ☕️🚗
Had a '65, bought it for $300.00 in Hollywood (1980-81), smoked like a mosquito truck, no wheels matched, but original white and burgundy red interior. 1st thing was new matching wheels, tires, found OEM hubcaps, then took it to a mechanic in West LA (near Century City where I worked) and said do anything/everything from front to back mechanically it needed. Several months and $2700.00 later (a steal) with about 20 pages of listed parts and labor, it was all new again. Then the paint job in Van Nuys came, took the chrome off myself and put that back on afterwards, it was like new all over. Loved it. Until I was on the 405 freeway going to work in backed up traffic (which probably saved my life) and the steering wheel started feeling loose. I gave it a push down left or right (can't remember) and the wheel spun freely around like I was trying to win a prize on a spinning wheel of fortune! Thankfully I was just creeping along. Then I pulled the wheel a bit and it started to come towards my chest and I said OMG what is happening?? I pushed back down and it went back to normal and clicked at the firewall under the dash. It started to steer correctly and thankfully, again, my exit was next. A few miles down Santa Monica Blvd I got the parking garage and work. Needless to say many weeks passed as I left it parked and to find someone who would install a used column from another bird I found. Never wanted to drive it again. Sold it to a buyer in Orange County a few months later. But I'd buy another one maybe. No regrets since, it allowed me to own several other cars I liked even more.
Something about these is just *chefs kiss*
I'll get my mom one, one day. She's a big fan.
I have a 1964 tbird that needs some work to get running again, It ran 6 years ago. But It needs a few parts seeing this running and being in far worse shape than mine gives me hope....
Everyone should join the low buck club. Its a steal of a deal, to watch drunk Dalton work on things, for only 99 cents a month! I mean, its worth every bit of a dollar!
Dalton! Raise your Patreon! Get that bag
I wouldn't think it fun to watch someone drunk working on anything WRT safety. Also, not a good lesson to teach a 12 year old boy. Let him learn to work on cars, but not how to drink while doing so. Would be good video evidence for custody or visitation to be revoked by the courts. Come on folks, time to be mature here for a little bit. Anyone who disagrees, do yourself a favor and remain silent. No need to make yourself look foolish. Dalton, don't get me wrong, I enjoy your videos, just don't start doing stupid things for views. You are gaining popularity as it is.
@@rickgaine3476 solid advice. I’ve thought the same watching JD film himself riding in a car with no floor pan. Mom might be a nice lady who it just didn’t work out with, but if she’s not he’s recording a lot to use against himself
@rickgaine3476 this lady would have a heart attack if she ever saw zipties channel
My coworkers think I am strange for liking the smell of pre ethanol varnished gasoline too. I use to get old lawnmowers full of the stuff.
I literally commented a week or so ago about wanting you to make a video with a 60’s thunderbird, and you delivered!!!
Is this what love feels like…?
This is what it sounds like when doves cry.

Dalton, Jess may now have you beat in how to do fine body work on a car - the body working segment was priceless. JD is a trooper and does mechanical work that most men cannot do and he understands what he is doing. Again another great entertainment episode - you do not disappoint. Would love to see more work on your Thunderbird tank - such heavy duty metal.
Ah the bad smelling gas core memories of the childhood. I always associate it with dad time and a 1968 f100.
Thanks for reminding me Dalton.
I feel your pain on the fuel pumps, I'm finally giving up on my 81 CJ7 and putting in an electric one. It doesn't matter where you buy them now, they're all junk, they'll last for a few months or a few hundred miles and that's all. A decent electric pump will run you $40-$70 and frankly the one you put on it which is about 15 bucks on Amazon will last a long time if you give it a good enough electric source and don't melt it. The good news on that TBird is if you get sick of it, all the trim and bits and pieces are worth a lot, most of that stuff is one year only and hard to get, plus hot rodders love the seats and gauges. You'll get your money back if you sell it.
Being watching your channel for a while now, I like a lot getting those old cars from their supposed resting place and bring them to life and make those transformations makes me feels at ease, me being riddle with depression and anxiety. Thanks a lot for sharing and God bless you and your family!!
Awesome work man. You are indeed the Bob Ross of car repair. Just do what you like and it's all good. 🙂
What a hoonigan lady, I enjoy this whole thing
I never realized how much a 64 Mustang looks like a Square Bird. I like the way you treated the floor to save money but got new carpet to hide the patches in a good way.
You've had a great time when the cops get called. It's called memories 😂
That's gonna be a beautiful Thunderbird when you finish the bodywork and a good wash. Dalton you sure have a fantastic pitcrew man in Jess and JD! We'll be seeing all of yall going on a long road trip in that T-Bird one day. Have a great weekend and I'll catch you on the next video. 👍
Dont forget about the swing away steering wheel! Put it in park, than lift up further than part, you can now swing the steering wheel to the right allowing more room to get in and out of the car.
Those old unibody fords had all those extra steel braces, because the body itself wasn't rigid enough. It isn't great engineering, it's sloppy or unsuccessful engineering they had to patch afterwards when it was too late to make massive changes into the bodyshell. If I remember correctly, they weigh approximately the same as the frame on bodied cars of the same era and size.
They may not be popular cars, but I always liked the Thunderbird interior, so ahead of its time and so comfortable. Keep up the good work! Watching you three work on cars together is awesome to see and really inspires me to keep working on mine.
Awesome car imo. Dont know why ppl think that they are not worth working on them. Good interior, good looking outside. Keepers for sure.
Welcome to the Please Be Good channel, where everything is a challenge. Awesome video. Every project that results in a fun time is worth the effort.
I had a 65 Bird. Loved it and hated it. This brought back a lot of memories. They were so prone to difficult to fix water leaks. The Power steering drives the wipers in this car. There are two hydraulic lines just below the lip where the fresh cabin air intake meets the firewall.
I really like that, back in the 80s, one of my buddies had a white 66 convertible and to this day I'm not quite sure how he got it cos we live in England, I was so envious.
32:13 You don't even have a building started yet, over the newly poured concrete pad for the non-pole-barn pole-barn, and already have gotten yourself the lifter columns for said new shop. Nice. The man knows his priorities, I love it :D
Great video Dalton. Looked up a 66 Thunderbird they go between $20k and $40k seen a convertible for $70 .
Have watched and enjoyed your antics for a long time but this episode was the BOMB !!!!!! 12 stars out of 10 - It's gonna go VIRAL (Love those old 'Birds)
I had a 66 Thunderbird. Yes the engine is miserable to work on. Think I might find another parts supplier. I know they work hard to get You Tube mechanics. If JD wants this. He would need to sell the Galaxy. The sequencer’s work. That’s a plus. That Interior is not to bad. The rusted trunk is not great. The exhaust maybe the manifold crack.Jess is always great on the detailing. Thanks Dalton for another entertaining video.
You have to add lead substitute to your fill up. Sounds just like my old 68 LTD she was a runner but brakes blew chunks. Loved those flip up headlamps alas she slid into a bigger hunk of metal service truck winter of '78. I guess I loved her to death.
Nah I've never once had an issue with non hardened valve seats, I'd wager I drive old cars more than most (daily)
Hey Dalton I like the t-bird but I really think the original hubcaps would look better on it than the dog dish hubcaps? The Thunderbird was a luxury car and those are nice hubcaps that it had I think it would look good what does original hubcaps my friend I know it's your car and do what you want but personally I think those look better the original ones.
I had 2 T-birds both were 65s. One when I was 18 years old and another when i was around 35 years old. Oh how I wish I still had them . I miss those cars and had lots of good memories with the first T-bird. If I could only turn time back.
Just had 4 teeth ripped from my skull, this ford content brings me joy
Oh , yes! The sound of this engine slowly reving up, is really good !!
Not sure where you are, but in the northeast the passenger side is always the rusty side because the road salt accumulates on the sides of the road
i just ordered 2 tires for my fairlane from prioritytire free shipping and the price was good just as dalton said.👍
Seeing your son helping you is a good lesson on how to teach and bring up children. Seeing his hoodie neck string dangling into the engine compartment however is terrifying.
Man that Buick was great that's what we useta run back in the day .
My brother er bought a 4-door Buick leSabra, drive it to work then gutted it for demo derby. Then the rear end went out in our old Gmc truck, so I pulled the Buick rear and the gmc, rear out took them to my high school, shop and torched the brackets off the truck rear and weled them on the Buick rear end.
rear-end then installed it in the truck.
Then the truck engine blew, so I pulled the Buick engine and Trans, out and installed it in the truck!
I recently had a shot at a 66 thunderbird on facebook for $1000. Dude wanted to get rid of it bad. Now I am not a ford guy or thuderbird guy by any means. But i was intrigued by the price and the fact it had a running 390. But during some research I was surprised to find out it was a unibody. That alone killed the project for me... The only thing worse then a unibody is a 58 year old unibody....lol
I thoroughly enjoyed the floor repair. I appreciate the alternative techniques instead of completely welding in new floor pans. You have shown that regular guys like me can get it done!
Cool car and a heck of a deal! Personally I’d have to turn those white letters around to the inside because to me a Thunderbird is a traditional whitewall or black wall out kinda car… but that’s just me. 🤷♂️😬
Love the construction glue use! Yep that aint going nowhere! Love the channel an content, keep up the good work. Regards from Scotland!!
I have a "How to rebuild Ford FE big block engines" book. A '66 Thunderbird is featured in the book. There's a section in it pointing out how heavy the car is and making sure it doesn't injure you, working on it. I think the curb weight of the car was right around 4,300 lbs. That's about as heavy as a short bed '60s F-100 weighs. 😅😅 Aren't those brakes the old "power assist" one's? If so, the booster needs power with the ignition key to the "on" position.
This video has given me total confidence to brush off anyone who says my 66 is a junker and not worth putting money into. Love you guys' humor and sarcasm. Liked and subbed.
I'm glad to see Jess helping you on the car she looks like she's having fun 😂❤ love you Jess your beautiful 😻
Dalton I'm happy you and Jess found each other. She is definitely a pleasant addition to your channel. Thanks for the awesome content. Take care.
Dalton, I got a really good tip for you. You can bleed the master On the car. Just break the lines loose and have your assistant Push the pedal down And hold it, While you re tighten the lines and repeat as necessary. Works every time.
We have absolutely no fun bangers in Ireland. V8's are the devil's work over here because of the price of petrol.
Maybe try advance or even auto zone for parts they are way cheaper and the work for way less money
This kid is going to start high school with a 59 Fairlane and a 66 T-bird.
Is that as good these days as it was back in the 80’s? It has to be, right?
The people who wouldn’t find that cool are the people that aren’t even worth making friends with anyway
JD has the 59 Fairlane IIRC and now wants a classic Thunderbird.
Geeze the young man is going to be pulling into the high school lot in style a couple years from now.
Dalton V Karen yes.
I heard Dalton give the t bird to JD. So now JD has two cars.
I've dealt with aluminum hulls for over 35 years regarding pontoon boats, in Salt water. There has always been structural issues , mainly cracked welds due to pounding seas. Galvanic corrosion is also an issue. Barrier coat primers are critical below the water lines prior to antifoulant paint. Reliable antifoulant paints are questionable. JMO. Wishing you guys the very best.
i bought a 65 a year ago as a project i reverence this video alot just helped with the brakes tonight
Jess is a sweetheart thank you Jess for helping Dalton❤😊
that bird is a KEEPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YESSIR!
Holy crap. You just changed my life. I have a 2010 Camaro w/ 21” factory wheels. Pirelli wants $660 for a 275/35R21 EACH!! PriorityTire has some for $121 bucks. Same Y speed rating and 100 load index. Plus they’re rated at 45K miles instead of 28K! Now I’ll actually be able to afford to do some burnouts lol. Thanks, Dalton!
You can only get so much awesomeness in one video. This went by in the blink of an eye. Here’s looking forward to 200K. You guys deserve it.
not a fan of tbirds, but wow this ones a gem. easy cleanup and restore with this one. man, jd's getting older, thats wild. like yesterday he was a little kid
I love that dashboard. And the interior. They had some good taste in the 50’s and the 60’s!
This was a fun free Saturday morning for me sir! Waking up and watching your videos with my coffee! Thanks for this.
Have nice weekend.
After you got done with all that work it turns out to be my favorite car on the channel so far.
Seriously my favorite show . Love how honest he is and includes his son and ol lady. I love every build. Can't wait till the t bird is done. Thax brother.
I love it, it pulled itself off the trailer, did a burn out and runs really well. It might have been a pain to work on it but it's such a nice car to start with that its worth it in the end.
Love the Bandpass subwoofer box sitting on the back seat! Is that original equipment? Nice to see that it still has the 9" rear end it came with.
