$2400 for this beauty is an absolute steal. The headliner hasn't fallen, the seats are pristine and even the old tube radio works! But maybe I'm biased because the bodywork is in such amazing shape (especially for an unrestored car) and i *hate* doing bodywork. I'd much rather work on something with bad mechanicals and tgats in good cosmetic condition than vice versa.

Don't know if you're a dad or not, Norman (I suspect you are). For me, a milestone moment in fatherhood was when my daughter began to confidently engage in some good natured "bustin' balls" of her old man. I had one of my worse nightmares as a child and that car was my hiding place in the dream. This vlog was a real treat for me as I've told you before, watching you is almost like reliving my childhood. You look similar to what my father did when I was JDs age, smoking a cigarette whilst working on cars and teaching car repairs at the same time, uncle's and other family hanging out around cars. That's what we need in this country again. More car controls and less remote controls.

My dad started selling Fords in 1957. This is quite the decked out rig for 1959. Padded Dash & Power Steering were not that common and the Cruise O Matic is definitely a rarity as the Ford O Matic 2 speed was still prevalent. Love that color! I don't recall seeing that coral as much as the blush pink of the era. You should love her, and if that car for that price crossed my path, I'd have it in my garage.

I'm not a Ford bloke by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm really taking a shine to the pair of '59s, mate. JD's beast still looks great and the Coral beast is such a fantastic example of a survivor. Hard to believe it sat for so long in the way the beast just got up and boogied like it was driven yesterday. Watching it do the long pulls from a distance while JD was filming from the side of the road was a magical thing to behold - even with a missing hubcap! Great video to watch, mate and a reminder than sometimes the old stuff is still far better to work with than the new, be it parts or the cars themselves. Shoes do take a few miles to wear back in on the drums and feel good than pads do on discs too. Had to remind myself of that fact just recently as well.....
It's gotta be a proud moment to see the young fella working to correct a problem on his own vehicle too, eh Dalton? What I found particularly telling was that he can now lean over the front fenders and reach things in the engine bay and his feet still touch the ground, whereas when the Fairlane was built, he'd have to hike himself up onto the fender and balance himself there to work on it. They don't stay young (or little) forever, do they? I remember my youngest helping me with the brakes when she had to have the seat pulled right forward and hang onto the steering wheel to push the pedal. Now, she gets in, adjusts the seat back a touch and has a quick and / or sharp rejoinder for any comments I make, while comparing my classics unfavourably with her own! I can see that starting already and more so in your own future, eh....! All the best.

Watching you beat those dents out of the rear quarter reminds me of an adventure last fall...
I was on my way to the fire station responding to a call one night in "Megabomb III", the $500 Honda civic. I came up to the first crest on a hill, saw a deer, and said (out loud of course, to the deer on the side ov the road) "you'd better stay there. No f@#%ing chance I'll be able to stop if you-"
And the bugger jumped right in front of me, landed on the hood and went up over the roof.
I let off the brakes, car kept rolling straight... I touched the gas, motor still running... no signs of smoke or odd behaviour... no lights on the dash... so I just kept on going.
It was a false alarm, so the first truck was already on its way back, so a buddy followed me back to see where the deer was, we found it about 30 feet off the road, dead.
I spent the next morning prying up and beating on the upper rad support until it looked good-ish, then laid the hood on the lawn and started wailing on it with a 2x4 until it was straight enough to latch.
If it weren't for the inner reinforcement on it I probably could've got it looking pretty decent... but it was good enough for a $500 car that would never pass another safety inspection.
...and not too much later, buddy shows up at the post office where my wife works and dropped off a bunch of fresh deer steaks and deer burger for us 😂

    I'm 77 now and in 1964 I had a 59 Galaxie 2 Dr hardtop.
352 inch with a three speed and overdrive...bought a blown up 427" out of a drag car with a broken rod wrapped around its neighbor...took the engine to Junior College machine shop and rebuilt it with parts from a junk yard.
First time I put my foot in it the tranny exploded...back to another junk yard and got everything from the blowproof bell housing to the nine inch rear end for $275.00
Removed the five spoke mags and replaced with steel wheels and stock hubcaps..only tell was a set of "cheater slicks"
Left the column linkage in it and would place a leather jacket over the 4 sp. Shifter.
Drag raced Chevy gassers and won...told the drivers it was all stock 352...the look on their face was priceless!
We called these kind of cars "sleepers"

Definately keep this 59. Put on new shocks, rebuild the front end and do some cosmetics and you'll have an exceptionally cool car. Love your videos.

I'd imagine that dash had been padded with foam at some point, but being foam from the 50s it probably went the way of... well... foam from the 50s and turned into a fine dust shortly after this car was first parked. My uncle had some Lionel trains from that era and any foam accessories (mostly the foam cleaning pads you'd use on the track cleaning car) were basically powder by the time I got them in the late 2000s

@@PoleBarnGarage, For matching old paint, I have used those paint match color camera/guns that you put on the car and take pictures of the paint and bring that information back to a paint dealer/part store, and they'll mix it custom for you. I have had very very good success with that, And there isn't extra charge unless you want to have them put that paint in rattle cans.

We had a 58, green and white beast, as a little kid in the early 60,s, when you was messing with the brakes, I can still hear my Dad,s voice YELLING ,when my Mom would back out the driveway, NOT TO STOMP on the brakes, it tightened them up and used gas and wore them out faster, LOL. The old 58 and Mom never got along well, especially when cold and the choke would come off, and when the points would close up, I can remember getting pretty damn cold walking home about 6 miles one winter. The craziest thing though, Dad worked at McDonnell Douglas in St Louis Mo, every year I can remember Mom and Dad getting the old car loaded up with a Wenzell tent, prepping the car, new oil and repacking wheel bearings ,adjusting brakes, and off we would go out west for 2 or 3 weels, to Colorado, Wyoming , Utah etc, and standing on the " hump" watching gas prices, in gas wars, I can remember 26.9!! Coming down Rabbit Ear pass one time the old 58 Ford sounded like it dropped a rod or something, KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK like some one taking a ball peen hammer to the inside of the engine, I will never forget the look on my Mom and Dads face, and then the knocking quit, he pulled over at the bottom of the pass and checked things out and never done it again back to Wentzville Mo!!

Just happened upon your video after watching another video about a 59' Ford. This brought back so many memories. My first car was a 59' Ford Custom 300. It had the rounded rear windshield, less chrome, the 4 chrome birds on the rear quarters, and mine had the 292 Y block V8. Very quirky and terrible top end oiler engine.. Normally I think they came with an inline 6 at this trim level. It was my grandparents car they bought brand new, handed down to my dad and driven to California from North Dakota in 69', then I started restoring it with my dad in about 85'. I graduated in 87' and drove my grandmother to my graduation in her old car at about 85% restored. I love that your son has one. They are such great cars and, yes, total tanks! Mine was two tone green with a medium green bottom and mint green roof. I still miss it. Loved watching you guys work on this one and it's great you both have father / son matching 59's! Oh, and you stole it for $2,400! If you can even find one out here in So Cal, you'll pay through the nose for it. Probably 5X what you paid for yours in its condition. Thanks again for the video guys!
