Well this was a surprise to say the least. Bob Todd was my great Uncle, he died a month after I was born so I grew up hearing about him often, it was so nice to see this. However the real treat for me in this was seeing my grandmother (Joan his sister) once more. She passed away in 2013 and I really didn’t expect to see her in this 🥲 that was lovely
Condolences to you, but also sending healing light. Your great uncle touched a lot of hearts. Glad this footage can be a warm blanket for your memories. Peace.
Hello James. I met your great uncle Bob as a young lad with my parents at a Christmas pantomime in the 1970's. He was a really nice kind man. May his memory be a blessing to you and your family x
It makes me so happy, to know, that good old Benny, chose to have among his staff, not only good artists, but also men, with integrity, as well as war veterans...people, who unlike their counterparts today, weren't afraid, to sacrifice, and give their services, not only to their nation, but also to all the rest of us, so that we can enjoy our frreedom today! One such man, was Bob Todd. We learned, how to love him, as acomedian, through Benny's show, when we watched it, here in Greece, but now that we know about his personal life as well, we also admire him! May God rest your soul dear Bob.
Omg he didn't choose him because anything to do with the war bet that never came up once & he joined up because there was a war not like the idiots now that join up to invade countries like Iraq etc making the world unsafe Last time anyone fought for this country was WW2 & we owe them everything shame the Right Wing/ Torys / the Rich etc shit on them They fought so Especially the right wing (fake patriotism) & their views would Never Exist again
Benny's not so subtle dig at Davidson was hilarious. Nice to see the second banana get the credit he deserves. Fond memories of Bob Todd, Henry McGee and all the other actors and comedians that played second fiddle to the stars but added so much to shows.
@@EdinburghAndy I wonder what that was all about? I know some comedians dislike one another because of their type of material/delivery (ie Lee Mack on Stewart Lee) - just wonder what ground Benny's gears about JD
@@monkeymanbob I think it's similar to his earlier 'feud' with Bob Monkhouse in the '50s/60s where Benny would use Monkhouse's name as the butt of any insult gag that came up - they were great friends in real life so it was just patter. I'm guessing he started using Davidson as the butt in the 80s in the same way to keep up with the times.
@@EdinburghAndy I could see that - apart from that quote I couldn't find any animus between the two. I guess I could ask JD, he's on social media - but he's a bit bust trying to get a peado outta prison.
Yes famous but very down to earth person Bob was!! like so many of his generation they did not make a fuss and were respectful and respected and worked bloody hard to get somewhere in life. 😁
I recorded this on vhs when it was broadcast, then loaned it, and never got it back.. not seen it again until today. Thank you. Cooper and Todd brilliant!
He was good but not as good as Peter Cushing! I remember talking to his Granddaughter on the internet some years back, fantastic actor, one of my favourites as a child, mainly due to him fighting evil! would love to watch all the Dracula films again.
This man has been one of my favourite performers since I was a child. I first noticed him in a TV show on ABC in Australia called 'What's On Next'. Then I discovered him in The Benny Hill Show which I wasn't allowed to watch as a kid. Thank you Mr. Bob Todd. It was wonderful while we had you here. I'd love to know what fibs his family & friends had to tell him to get him to the studio for this show. He thought it was a show for Barry Cryer.
As a youngster I always looked forward to an appearance by Bob.Just watching his reactions to everyone who appeared showed what a genuine warmhearted man he was. Straight into routine with Cooper, what a consumate professional, Bob's timing is perfect. And like so many who went through that war, those who did the most, said the least about their contribution. Thank you Bomber Command. This may be the perfect episode of TIYL.
One of the few This is Your Life shows to stick in my mind over the years. A huge amount of comedy talent on there with Benny Hill making a rare appearance for a man he clearly admired. I have been looking out for this hoping someone would be able to post it. Thank you so much.
This was a real treat to watch. Thanks for posting it. Bob Todd was such a naturally gifted comedian and clearly very modest. I didn't know about his war record. By the sounds of it he had Post Traumatic Stress but his wife helped him. A great line-up of guests ❤
I miss this time. When real character actors were not overly concerned with the aging of their faces. When Benny Hill appeared, I lost it. Comedy in the 70s and 80s was so good!! So many talented actors kept me in stitches over the years. The Golden Age
Bob Todd was a true gent. In 1980 he accepted an invite from some shabby students at City University to make a personal appearance [unpaid] at our fundraising event on a gloomy Saturday morning in a London park. At the time his style of humour was being displaced by the alternative comedy scene but he was very gracious and tolerant of us young smartarses. We didn't appreciate he was part of this glorious comedy tradition. Thanks Bob.
Wow haven two greats here even here in united states BOB REMINDED ME OF SO MANY SKITS OF PEOPLE IN MY LIFE. THE WIFE AND HUSBAND SKIT ON BENNY HILL WAS LOT OF MY PARENTS. I LAUGH SO HARD THANK YOU BOB. BENNY AND PATRICK. ALL REST. WHAT SURPRISE TO SEE BENNY HILL SO FUNNY. NATERAL. I MISS THEM.

Seeing Tommy there, scared me just now, because two months time, he’s going to pass away in Royal Majesty Theatre where Phantom of the Opera is, I was baby, I did not see it when I was baby, but my parents were in at our Family friends house in Walthamstow and saw it live, I was shocked when I found out and I saw the footage, very traumatising, I felt sorry for him and his family, before I knew when he died, my mum said he passed away in 1982, but it was 1984, very sad 😢😢
Just saw this for first time..as a kid I laughed at this man's humor on Benny Hill..he was an all time favorite..RIP sir. And thank you for making a kid sneaking in a small TV so I could watch Benny Hill Show..laugh to the point where I cried
True, but he was in another 1960s Eric Sykes silent short "It's Your Move" (1968/9, remade 1982). Looks like Eamonn's researchers got their wires crossed!
@@ftumschk I don't think there actually is a 1969 It's Your Move. It is listed on the internet, but has EXACTLY the same cast as 1982 It's Your Move. Unfortunately I think there is only one It's Your Move. All clips and photos of It's Your Move 1969 are in fact from 1982. A idea of a 1969 version is a bit of a myth. However, there was Rhubarb in 1969, and there was a remake called Rhubarb Rhubarb in 1980, with a different cast. This remake DID star Bob Todd, in a major role.
