  • Larry was a big fan of Gracie Fields, (her this Is Your Life) has been uploaded from 1960 to You tube. Larry and was in Rochdale during her final visit in 1978. Dorothy Squires he loved too and he and Tom Bunn went to see her in around 1994. They just went through the back door and sat at her table, they had phoned her prior to this, as she was mostly a recluse by that stage in her life. Larry had wanted Dot Squires on The Generation Game as a guest but sadly this did not happen.
    Dorothy told Larry many times," Why are you not a top star" years before he made it, and he never forgot her. Tom Bunn was a mutual friend of both Dot and Larry.
    This Easter ITV 3 are showing a documentary about Larry, my friend Thomas Bunn is a on screen contributor Larry was a close friend of Tom, and is mentioned quite a few times in his book "Sorry darling It's way Past Time". Many showbiz people from the era are peppered throughout the book. Noele Gordon is also a guest on TIYL as both Larry and Nolly were close friends.
    It is a delightful show when Television was quite intimate. I hope you enjoy this rare episode."Look At The Muck In Here".
    This rare TIYL has many famous people as guests; Noele Gordon, Danny La Rue, and Lionel Blair.
    On a sad note I visited Noele Gordon's grave a day after her passing, a lovely note on the flowers from Danny La Rue, read To a Lady and a fighter love Danny and Wayne.

    I met Larry when he stopped to talk to my dad just down the road from where he lived. He was very pleasant and polite. My dad then revealed that he had been at school with William Hammond as he was known then. My dad had kept in touch with Larry over the years and visited him when he was in hospital just before he died. R.I.P. Larry.

    I'm thoroughly enjoying all the This Is Your Life downloads. And I've watched many. But Mr Grayson, thus far, is the only person I've seen stand up for every surprise guest. That is testament to his personality. RIP LARRY GRAYSON

    I used to hate “This Is Your Life” growing up as a kid, but watching this now is a treat. Having seen Jerry Springer and Jeremy Kyle using ordinary ppl on TV to mock them and make them act to the worst stereotypes, this show has a myriad of normal members of the public who each contributed positively towards the life of a much loved TV star, and each accorded dignity and honour for the warm, positive influence they provided. It also shows the positive power of community in bringing forth the best from folks, encouraging and building each other up!
    In this era of social media and reality tv, we should appreciate shows like this and this demand better and more supportive media, instead of degrading sensationalist trash - where ordinary folks appear on TV to be mocked and treated worse than zoo animals. This upload shows how much richer we could be and lift our spirits by valuing and honouring eachother and our contributions

    I never thought this upload would be so loved? Larry was like Gracie Fields, a person who was humble real and came from a poor background. He was friendly with Dorothy Squires too so in my book he had great taste. I have written many blogs about various people, and Larry will be my next one. Thank you all for such lovely comments they prove how much Larry was and is loved.

      Dorothy Squires was from Llanelli, and was married to Roger Moore. More accurately, Moore was married to her. In fact, it was she who opened many doors for Moore as she was a huge Star at the time of their marriage. Without her assistance, who knows how far Moore would have got in the world of show business.

    'Celebrities' are ten a penny in 2019, but that my friends, is what you call a STAR. Gosh Larry Grayson is much missed - his comedy and charisma are timeless, wish he were still here to show all those reality TV nobodies (and Ant & Dec) how it's done!
    I'm disappointed his great pal Diana Dors was not a contributor to his This is Your Life - maybe they hadn't yet forged their great friendship, as he hasn't long been famous here.
    Yet again I'm left puzzling - how on Earth did Rod Hull get away with physically assaulting people like that??? He'd be arrested by the Yew Tree squad today!
    When Hull and his bird were on the Parkinson show with Billy Connolly back in the 'seventies, the Big Yin watched his antics with Parky (the Emu grabbed his crotch, messed up his hair and whizzed him round in his swivel chair til he was dizzy), then told him: "If you try that crap with me I'll break its neck, and your arm!"

    • @williamf4544
      @williamf4544 Рік тому +1

      I agree - it always reminded me of those bullies you got who did nasty things to people "as a laugh" their target would want to seen a killjoy and complain same with those watching - the emu malarky always made me feel uncomfortable - and dont get me started on him grabbing mens crotches thats a whole different conversation

    • @glamdolly30
      @glamdolly30 Рік тому

      @@williamf4544 Absolutely! The 'seventies were a dreadful time for male celebrities using their fame to behave outrageously and even criminally. As we now know, Jimmy Savile raped and assaulted literally hundreds of children and adults in a criminal career spanning 60 years, and many people with the power to stop him did not.
      BBC stars Stewart Hall and Rolf Harris raped and sexually abused young girls for decades, like Savile fully confident they were above the law and untouchable. Max Clifford was an agent but his ego meant he became a celebrity - all while seeking sympathy for his disabled daughter and conducting himself as a sexual predator.
      There are obviously many other stars who got away with their offending, because the case was too cold, and the victims/evidence too old to prosecute. We can only hope some lessons have been learned to make it harder for such dangerous men to thrive in future. But more recent cases like Harvey Weinstein show these sexual predators are always around, and their ability to bully and intimidate to get their way is an ever present threat to society.

    Thanks for sharing this, I really enjoyed watching... Always loved Larry as an entertainer and a genuinely lovely person. I'm a nurse and worked on the ward where his friend Dorothy Squires was admitted. (Although she was there as Dorothy Moore as she said that she didn't want to draw attention to herself...) But then sat in the bed with the curtains partly drawn either side of her, a face full of make-up and a big (and I mean BIG) red bow in her hair! Sadly, she deteriorated and passed away a while later. But while she was there, her ex-husband Roger Moore telephoned to inquire how she was...

    I loved Larry we all did and his friends like Gracie Fields, Dora Bryan and Dorothy Squires, a quality missing now sincerity and love. So pleased this is having such big hits on you tube.

    Lovely, a talent that was based on warmth and genuine interest in folk. Mr.Grayson could reduce you to tears of laughter with just a look and a cheeky innuendo, and he never relied on torrents of embarrassing and unnecessary foul language. Thank you for the wonderful post.

    None around like him any more. Fighting his way up via local theatres and working men's clubs. Brave, genuine and very funny.

    His best show was a few years away, the Generation Game, he brought new life to that show. Very much missed entertainer, I always thought he would have been a great soap character, I wonder would they have cast him today.

    He was a genuine down to earth person and did a lot for local charities around Nuneaton. He was also well loved by local people as he always had time to chat.
