Easily one of the best television shows in history that, unfortunately, was canceled far too soon by short-sighted network executives. These outtakes are "radio" gold! Thank you!
@@rileyvilla6276 Well, not exactly. That "issue" became more of a problem after original licensing agreements expired once the show went into syndication. Basically, as I noted, WKRP was cancelled because of poor network management. They NEVER really gave the show the promotion & scheduling it deserved. Heck, even when it was canceled, it ranked in the top 10.
@@rileyvilla6276 Well, not exactly, that became more of an "issue" years later after the show went into syndication. Make no mistake, network executives botched WKRP's promotion & scheduling almost from day one. Even when it was canceled, WKRP still ranked in Top 10.
Gordon Jump nails it: there has never been a cast like this. Eight characters, and every one is likeable and integral in their own way. Their are no minor characters, and none of these great actors could have ever been replaced in this particular ensemble.
The fascinating thing about KRP is it didn't take time to develop like many sitcoms did. This show was fire in a bottle from the get-go. The turkey drop episode? Season 1, episode 7...
I was only a teenager when WKRP aired. From week to week I could never figure out who I was crushing on harder, Loni or Jan. But I also thought it was funny, and very heartfelt at times. I was VERY disappointed when it was cancelled. The new WKRP that aired some years later was a pale imitation. You can’t recapture lightning in a bottle. A perfectly cast show.
I started working in radio in 1976. In 1978 I returned to my hometown and went to work for the #1 top 40 station. It was like WKRP in every way. Our news director was so much like Les Nessman it's scary. (He couldn't say the word "nuclear," so, when a story would occur about a nuclear plant in our area - He'd call it the Atomic Power Plant.) The morning guy was merciless. Our office manager was more like a Mom to us unruly DJ's. This show was so well cast & researched.
I was never officially with a station, but in the mid-late 1970s, I hung out with a bunch of guys from one of the first FM AOR stations - KSHE in St. Louis, MO. Great people and great times. Just to brag on them for a bit, KSHE has been broadcasting since 1967 and has NEVER changed their format. They are the longest running rock station IN THE WORLD. Rock on, people! 🤘🏼
One of the best shows ever on television. For someone who watched when it aired for the first time on CBS, I have become disgusted that the licensing for the music was not renewed. Now it is a shell. You would think the higher-ups would have realized that keeping the original music-The Stones, Coasters, Eagles, etc.-would help trigger a young person's interest in the music of the Rock era. and increase their record sales for
I totally agree with you about the “funniest show” part and I have some great news for you…the original music is finally back! The DVDs are available online with the original music. Some cleaned up video to go along with it. Now you truly can have…”more music and Les Nessman”! 🤣
The Shout Factory box set has 95% of the original music restored. Shame the lawyers had to play that game. This show actually put a lot of bands on the map.
Algo - happy new year(even tho it’s just worship of Janus and April is the new year ) I digress - hope u are well !!! - I recall this show on days I wld lie to stay home “sick” and late nights when I cldnt sleep - that’s so funny cuz it’s like we are all our own dj now 🤔 Miss u friend ✨
One of the best shows ever, the Turkey episode is still the funniest thing ever shown on television-CBS needlessly really killed this show, could have lasted another 3-4 seasons
loni andersons hair was INSANE, just a perfect unmoving helmet of hair....obsviously Trump picked up a few hair pointers from her...and makeup pointers now that I think about it.
Loved Soap! Every character on that show was funnier and stranger than the next! If I had to pick my favorite, it would be a toss up between Burt and Jessica, with Chuck and Bob coming in third (or would that be 3rd and 4th?)
I was happy because that Show actually Cast Soap Veterans to be part of the Ensemble. For instance there's the strange case of two late "Somerset" greats in Miss Caroline McWilliams (Hubba, Hubba!😍) and Ed Winter ("Colonel Flagg" Himself!😂). She connives with a young Waiter named "Randy Buchanan" to unalive Her husband "old man Delaney"😂 with a Pillow. And who Played the young treacherous Waiter? Gary Sandy, who of course Played "Andy Travis" on "WKRP" (and as was Ms. McWilliams a Castmate on "The Secret Storm")!😂🤣😂😉🎤💃📻📺B.W.

Enjoy the good things while you can. They never last in this realm.
The cancelation was caused by record companies demanding more money which made every episode more expensive.

This show was ahead of its time and there will never be another WKRP
One of the greatest sitcoms ever! Brilliantly written and cast!
Couldn't agree more and it should have run for five more years.
While Loni Anderson was indeed beautiful, Jan Smithers was definitely the cat's meow 😻 😸
Jan over Loni any day of the week and twice on Friday…night! 😉
Ginger/Mary-Anne.
@brettfavreify Marry-Anne
Finally, a Jan lover.😃
So hot!
Loved this show !!
Those were the days, takes me back to my childhood.....
I have never seen this before! Thanks so much for posting! 👍
Welcome, it was a fun show.
One of the great shows ever, and one of the great writers and ensembles as well.
Man, I love that show. Long live WKRP. (I just got my WKRP 1st Annual Turkey Drop t-shirt.)
Oooo, I didn't know they made such a thing. Thanks for your comment. I'll find one for next Thanksgiving.
As God is my witness... I just got that t-shirt a few days ago, too!
@@ajvonline Great minds and all that!
Jan Smithers ❤❤
She was my first crush! 😅😅😎 She was so brainy too! 😁

HUGE crush on Bailey!
Every hetero male with two working eyeballs had a "huge crush" on her.
Still

Great video! What a terrific show that was. Had a major crush on Jan Smithers as a kid. Too bad it went away too soon.
Yes it was!

That is a life well lived. Great share.
Radio looked SO fun...so, I went to school...and did 25 years on-air at multiple stations! Ya know what? It WAS fun!😂

Right on!
fellow St.Louisan here!KSHE since the 70s@@FDJT-sj7id
Herb and Les always played well off of each other
Great show. And it has aged better than a lot of others from that era.
For sure, Nessman was one of the original truthers.
This is great! I hadn't seen it before, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching

Excellent point. Maybe the A.I. isn't programed to think that way 🤔
Cold Case is worse...all the music they used to set time in stories is copyrighted.

One of my favourite shows, ever.
Oh this was freaking awesome. Loved it!
I'm glad to hear.
Notice the name Andy Ackerman at the end? He went on to do quite a few Seinfeld episodes.
Loved the show! Classic gold!
The best!
This show absolutely made the Monday nights of a Western NY high school student from 1978 to 1982, leading right into Monday Night Football
One of the best and funniest shows ever
