@@andypsa5131 He never actually admitted to being ever gay. He was fascinating character.
"Williams often said that he was asexual and celibate, and his diaries appear to substantiate his claims - at least from his early forties onwards. He lived alone all his adult life and had few close companions apart from his mother, and no significant romantic relationships."
He was more in love with himself and the idea of sex with a man or woman repulsed him.
Its a mistake to think he was gay. Unlike Charles Hawtrey who was openly gay and had many lovers a week.

@@andypsa5131 I alway believed he was but apparently not. In the documentary and his diaries that he wrote all his life showed nothing. He was in love only with himself. Like i said he was a complex character. The idea of sex repulsed him. Not saying he was not an odd ball but he was not gay.

@@martinjones5965 He was a very astute man and could hold an audience captive with his amazing wit for hours. Agreed his sexuality does not matters. He was addicted to himself and had little time for peoples opinions. He was apparently very self obsessed.

I grew up in the late 70’s /early 80’s when Jackanory and the Carry On films were staples on TV. Watching Kenneth Williams in 2024 I’m still bowled over by how good a reconteur he was. I could listen to him for hours and indeed thanks to UA-cam I have done. It’s not an exaggeration to say he was a true original.

Kenneth Williams still warms the hearts of us who had the pleasure watching this unique and beautiful talented man when alive and to this day what he left behind puts a smile on our faces. I hope the new generation can appreciate his special talent and his personal and hidden pain that he made light of for the next 100 years. He should never be forgotten and always be a bench mark for similar actors who strive to overcome their demons.

I used to work for a tour operator located round the corner from Williams' flat. He used to book with us and though I never spoke to him directly, he would entertain everyone in the shop while he was there. He had his demons but he made so many people incredibly happy. We don't seem to appreciate characters these days, everything is bland and uniform, but I'm glad he and I were alive and in the same area at the same time. Thank you, Kenneth.

It's occurred to me that these days, I believe ppl in the limelight have it too easy in some ways or think that it's too easy and then just play the game to make it, hence we lack the true originals who know how hard it was and had to strive to make it happen. Williams was a perfect example of someone who strived through his own torture and made it happen and lived for it without having an ostentatious living abode.

Nowadays most whites kids in London speak English with a hybrid Jamaican dialect which is very different from the anglo saxon dialect of English which was spoken by Kenneth Williams.
In the early 2000's, young white kids on council estates in London became JAMAICANISED.
This is when they starting speaking with English with a hybrid Jamaican dialect.
For example, Essex county is the only place in Britain where the cockney dialect/and or accent is still spoken.

I had the great pleasure of meeting him at the Royal Festival Hall in
London December 1985 at a book signing for his new book 'Just Williams' £8.95. I found him fantastic just for a couple of minutes and an occasion I will never forget. he was very nice, kind and civil and extremely witty. I am sure that we all miss him and of course Michael Parkinson who has just left us. I really loved Kenneth William's favourite anecdote about Mae West who was given explanation about all-in wrestling, the half nelson, the full nelson etc and started to get bored and retorted 'Honey, if it's all in why wrestle'. Very clever I thought.

I'm glad they're gone - they lived at a time when there was more freedom in the UK and you could be yourself. If they lived nowadays they'd be cancelled, harassed by the authorities and SJWs and kept out of showbiz. They had the best years, if they could see the UK today they'd be horrified.

What i loved about Parkinson was that he never interfered with the guests once they got going. This is typical example of allowing the very great late K.Williams do his stuff.
Not like these days when most hosts are allways butting in!

There's no one like Kenneth Williams now. He was a genius. So witty, so knowledgeable... I love palari, such an original nd inventive, secret gay language that is all but lost now that Kenneth Williams and Hugh Paddick were fluent in. Check out the 'Julian and Sandy' LP (clips and full LP available on UA-cam). They are hysterical!

I'm not sure whether 'innocence' is the correct word. Many of his friends said he was rude and often socially offensive with his humour. I liked him immensely, but there are two sides to his life's story.

If there was a person for whom the English language was made for, it would be Kenneth Williams. He could wax lyrical on any subject and was the undisputed king of 'Just a Minute'.

Love how he speaks precise, and concise. How we need people like this in society. Love wordsmiths like this, as they know how to entertain by words. By the way, he was not joking about the red-hot needle up the nose to culturize. My brother went through the same as he suffered from nose bleeds.
