- Feb 2023 Toy Fair Tamiya Releases!
After the Toyota Celica Leak last week, has it happened again, or is this official? This news has just dropped and as it's 1:00AM in the UK, I have little info to go on apart from the Kit numbers and a basic description.
Also the announcement talks of new chassis, BB-01, and MB-01. I am off to bed but hopefully tomorrow we will have more solid info on this.
I can see the appeal of a new TT02, but I personally (if I was Tamiya) wouldn't be so hasty to replace it. It hasn't been around ten years yet, and is actually a really good kit. It has the versatility to be a usable street basher, road racer, drifter and rally car, and is a great platform for loads of different body shells. And lets face it, whilst us geeks get excited about wanting a rere Falcon (which everyone will complain about if they release it anyway), what has the ability to actually bring people into the hobby is when they see a RC version of their favourite race / rally / street car, and I'd guess the cheapest and easiest way for them to do it is with a TT02.

Great to have the Abarth coming out again. I have one built , but was never happy with my attempt at the body .. a spare body set and decals will be fantastic.

Interested in the BBX-01 and the MB01 m-chassis replacement or so it appears , especially with the Fiat 500 corsa body from the original m01. The mb01 incidentally was chassis code given to a Tamiya 4WD buggy that never made production. Cool stuff
Going back to your last years release video you did, it seems we missed a couple, wasn't a falcon meant to come our in 2022. I might have to go back and look at that. Thanks for keeping us up to date.🏎

Gav, I’m excited for the news but at the same time, I’m skeptical. A replacement for the TT-02? I get the chassis is almost 10 years old next year but I’m not so sure when even TT-01’s are still being made and raced and I doubt they’ll replace it just before the 2023 TCS series even begins.
If anything, they’ll announce when the TT-02 SRX will go on sale.
@rckicks - one thing I did notice is that you said you liked the Golf, but wasn't keen on it being on a TT02, but I think it says that Golf is on the MF01 chassis.

Super thrilled for the Abarth, but if you look up MB-01, you'll be quite shocked to see that the chassis is a sort of toy-like buggy. Hopefully they'll re-re the bodies separately...

Golf sounds great, also the Yaris - perfect for my Rallye Car Collection. The Porsche might be also a great addition - maybe Race Car? maybe 100% OEM style? don't know

The Yaris was mentioned when the latest Blockhead was announced, want that body for mine.
However biggest news is if the TT-chassis replacement is now here as that would lead to a fundamental shakeup in their core architecture and global competitions.

That's what I have always thought, but recently I have been having second thoughts...if Tamiya really did re-re the holy grail Blazing Blazer, they would likely use some inferior chassis and it would end up tarnishing the image of the iconic original.

Keen on the 911 though these bodies look so nice seems a bit of a shelf queen as be gutted to damage it. Will that be the current Yaris WRC car as the image shows the previous version? About time Tamiya or someone did the new LR Defender 90, love a robust RC version of this. Have a great Christmas!

That Fiat Abarth will definitely be on my list next year though I did have the original on the M01/M02.

As a Tamiya newbie. What's wrong with the TT02??
Its normal for Tamiya to release something new just so that people have a reason to buy a new model. I think the benefit is mostly for Tamiya, unless they are going to surprise me this time.

TT stands for Touring Trainer, so hopefully YES, we will! It works as an entry point for anyone into the hobby. The bigger the hobby gets, the more bodies and models the makers can produce, as they'd make financial sense.

Like others, I'm sick & tired of all these great bodies being released on the tired, old, WAY-outdated TT-02 chassis. Yes, the TT-02 is a 'hobby' grade chassis...but, when you really think about it, it's just barely a step above 'toy' grade - the plastic is low-quality, LOTS of "slop", all those garbage JIS (ie. Phillips) screws, no real bearings. I realize Tamiya needs to keep a "low price" chassis kit in production, but I'm 99.9% certain people would gladly pay more for something that could TRULY be considered an "inexpensive hobby-grade" kit - give us something that includes hex screws, bearings, higher-quality plastic, and parts with tighter tolerances (ie. little-to-no slop). If Traxxas can do it with their 2WD Slash kit, there's NO reason Tamiya couldn't do something similar for a TT-02 replacement (TT-03?).
That's where your TT02-R, S, RS, SR, SRX series comes in...
@@YoShImUrA53 That's where those USED to come in. Unfortunately, Tamiya appears to have all but discontinued those 'trims' for the TT-02. They make (some of) them for their other platforms..but, not-so-much for ther TT-02...at least, not anymore. The one BIG exception to that will be the SRX, which they officially announced last month. I say "will be", because it still isn't available...plus, from what's understood, it will be a chassis-only kit (ie. never to be released with any bodies). I MIGHT get one of these (along with ordering the McLaren Senna body)...but, the Senna is probably much better off on a "higher-level" chassis.
@@robbryan3044 either way, as far as it has been published, the SRX will be on a very high price point, which at that point I have to agree there are much better options out there, especially if you get the body aside from the chassis

@@YoShImUrA53 On one hand, I want to agree. But, on the other hand, if someone is just getting into the hobby, something like the TT-02 might not be the best option. The thing is, for someone just getting into RC, getting a kit without any electronics could be 'problematic', as the person won't know what ESC to get, how fast/powerful a servo they'll need, what kv motor to get, etc. When someone just getting into RC asks me the best kit to start with, I always tell them the same thing - Traxxas Slash 2WD Kit. For $200, or includes everything except paint (for the clear Lexan body). After that, then I suggest a Tamiya kit.
