While you're saving money by buying Chinese products that came about in many cases from the "borrowing" of design and technology and intellectual property, the long term harm is that it stymies R and D by companies that actually try to innovate. Its unfair and we consumers carry some responsibility to let our money do that talking for us
@@anthonyng8800 I agree in some cases… however, this design is the Casey Currie U4, so Losi did no R&D for that. And other than the body, this is nothing like the hammer Rey 👍
I will never buy another product from Banggood they was a disgrace when I ordered something. The item was never delivered and they kept me going round a loop with emails trying to get my item or a refund. Had to get PayPal on the case. I only got my money back cos PayPal said out of goodwill for being with them so long they would refund me on this occasion. They are probably fine if your item turns up, but I will never use them ever again.
I bought the truck version. Quality is definitely a step up from wl toys. You really should take them apart and grease the diff (i used lithium). It does cog a little bit but it only seems to be a major issue in reverse. I noticed that the spur on mine is a bit chewed after only 2 runs- still perfectly functional though. the v2 have cvds instead of dogbones at the rear. Overall really good value for money!
I've had this car for a while now and I really like it. Things I modded: added oil in chocks, greased front and back gearbox, changed rear chocks, changed servo, added a gyro. The mod that really opened it up for me was the gyro. I couldn't handle it without it on 3S.
I think if they did away with the solid center shaft for a floating dog bone they would be even tougher. Have less worries about nose dives bending the center shaft or chassis flex pushing the diffs an shaft gears into eachother so they grind. I did the floating center dog bone swap on my 144 after a big hit that bent the center shaft , had plenty of big hits similar after the swap and no damage to the centre bone has occurred . That little bit of wiggle room makes all the difference to cost of repairs and won't ruin your fun if it takes a hit within the first 5 mins of play. Plus it will still drive if the chassis bends a little bit.
Nice, fun review. Really good little truck. I picked up one of these from a reseller on Amazon in July. Shipped out of China, so it wasn't a fast delivery, but worth the wait.
Bought one a month or so ago, on the hard wheels it's the only RC ive ever seen that'll (on tarmac) flip in a straight line, it starts to fish tail then it digs in and rolls, on 3s I found it near uncontrollable. But then I got an FS-GT5 transmitter with gyro stabilised receiver and it's made this thing an absolute beast, sand, gravel, anything. Important to fit the harder springs too, the blacks ones look nice but it'll slap the chassis from anything more than a than 6 inch drop.
I could use a new basher. Im not entirely over the ones i have, but this would make a nice addition to the collection. Might i add, at 60 + kilometres an hour, it rips more than my others ones oit if the box! Sweet as.
It's fine... you told me that whilst we walked together eating ice cream haha. Spares are pretty accessible on Aliexpress... shipping is way quicker than it used to be. However, you can't pop down your local hobby shop for spares
I have the HYPER GO H16PL, it can actually do 3s, at least according to its amazon description, but yeah, a ripper for sure, nearly gone through one set of tires on the first go, and that was on 2s.
My shocks blew out very easily. I replaced them with the ones off my mt14. Much much better, especially the handling. Also, I can rebuild them as well now.
MJX is killing it lately. They seem like such a good value. My only two hopes is that they get a bit creative and stop making mini versions of all the popular cars, and that they start making some big stuff. 1/10, 1/6, 1/7 , and 1/5 cars.
Agreed, I bought a 1/16 scale to get into the hobby and now I want a 1/10 scale for sure. The 1/16 is nice because they are small and tough but they bounce around pretty badly on anything that isnt pavement smooth. I can't even drive it on gravel, it bounces around so badly it just spins out constantly. I would love to have a 1/10 or bigger from them. I also agree about not copying the "Real" stuff. Just use what you can learn from the market and build something unique that is still cross compatible with some of the more well established companies or at least start making some relationships with some aftermarket parts companies to make upgrades
great review and i hope that you had a nice and turbulence free journey back home. 22 hour delay in pearson? yep..that's typical sometimes for my home airport. (i'm about an hour away from there). it could have possibly been delayed due to the amount of aircraft flying in for the air show going on this weekend in the Toronto area. get some rest after your trip and we'll see you in the next one! cheers Phil. take care for now.
All MJX with metal chassis have the better gears installed! This could calm down at 3s. They are compatible with all MJX (except the main gear & pinion). Very nice review!
There arent many small cars out there that id soend my hard earned in, but this i might do. It definitely has shades of the Hammer Rey, but the suspension is obviously different. Great little truck, and a great test on it. 😎🤘🏻
Nice work as always Phil. Your comment about favourite videos got me thinking. I'm not sure it's always about the car in the vid. Could be a number of things. Sometimes, for me at least, it's the chilled tone of things when you are trail trucking. Maybe I'm overthinking.
I can't wait until they do a larger scale basher. Use the best platform that they have out now ramp it up and make it bigger and make it like a Jeep body like the one year reviewing now. I think that'd be awesome.😊
Easy, but shortly it became my new passion. I watch your videos for few days and I like it. For a beginner in RC Cars what cars do you recommend me Phill ?
Can it handle deeper grass like what was next to the skate park? That's pretty typical length grass for most parks and in most backyards. I'd be curious to see how well cars do on grass like that. Not as the main focus but I think most people might want to know if a truck would work in their own lawn.
Not with the small/hard wheel/tyre and on the bigger/softer wheel/tyre it'll wheelie hard on grass, the chassis sits nearly an inch closer to the ground than the little monster truck MJXs so it tends to get stuck in long grass, it's more like an offroad "mini infraction" tbh (same 1/14 platform). It rips on sand and gravel, but it's hard to keep in a straight line without a gyro.
Yeah, this sits a little low for the longer grass. I think there Truggy version would be better m, or like mentioned above, one of their monster trucks
Really like MJX, I have a few of them. Thinking of getting one of these buggys, on a side note can you tell me how you attatched the rear of the Phat body on to the WLtoys 144001 / 144017 buggys on you brushless conversions ?
I'm going to use my "poam box" to add to my crawler course which my first crawler will arrive in, soon! Woop! MJX is killing it too. Making the big boys look bad. I'd honestly rather have this than my $250 Losi. At least this comes with extra parts, a bumper, and takes some abuse.
arrived this week and box is labelled as the v2 verasion, no idea what the differences are though ,It's great 1/14th truck tho , need to find some sand !@@TomleyRC

They need a 1/10 scale like this
I'd take this over a 1/8. It has a great time 90% of the things around my city.
Search for "1/10 Hammer Rey U4". A nearly $500 USD bigger twin brother.
Not Worth, there exist already overpriced Hammer U4 REY.
The Hammer Rey is 1/7 and it’s on sale now… almost half price last I saw

My Christmas list usually starts around February 😆
I love you, and your videos. 😉 The biggest question, for all of these lower cost models, is how is the parts support?
It's fine... you told me that whilst we walked together eating ice cream haha.
Spares are pretty accessible on Aliexpress... shipping is way quicker than it used to be. However, you can't pop down your local hobby shop for spares
The main issue for me is that you can’t go to a more established company for upgrades so you need the stock parts to be durable all around.
@@TomleyRCAliExpress currently only taking a week on choice items...and waiting for spares is why we have multiple vehicles as backup fun 👍😀
