I had this same problem. After I cut away the housing, I went ahead and cut the fan apart. Around the shaft was the nearly 1" nut that the fan was supposed to grip. With the fan out of the way it was easy to get a pipe wrench on it. A little torque is a wonderful thing.
Thanks, my dryer the plastic housing came off and that silver piece was stuck on the motor shaft. Even my son couldn't get if off, I had in sitting in wd40 for a day and no luck either. Great idea!
Gosh I thought I was the anomaly! I had it sitting in WD 40 spray last night, no luck. I’ve tried everything! I’ve posted on Nextdoor for someone to come save this damsel in distress. 😆😆. I’ve changed the thermostat, thermal cut-off, etc, just need my damn new blower in (it was hell removing the old one some horrible design for real even on the Kenmore elite front loader) so I can put my drier back together. I’m not too cheap to call it a lemon but I know it ain’t a lemon …. Yet.
Awsome, very good idea. I have the opposite scenario, I'm replacing the motor and that darn plastic nut broke, cant get the wheel off the motor. Only thing I can think of is having to replace the blower wheel as well.
I had the exact same problem but had a metal housing. Got it replaced but the motor went soon after. Replaced the motor and it’s been running good since.
Mine doesn't have a bolt like that. It's got this metal clip that holds it tight with a metal bolt like whats In the center of the one you have. The clip is pushed down by the bolt and up by the fan an it sits in it's spot an makes a hurricane. Well the part the clip sits in is what was broke. At first I put it together with lots of super glue and as expected it worked pretty well for like 20 minutes. So I took the dryer back apart and used a good glob of JB weld. That time I build an earthquake machine I should've sold to the CIA, because Im pretty sure I felt the trailer roll. But the second I built something like an old school 84 delta 88. Not quite a caddy but shes still pretty smooth. It's been dryin like that for a year at least probably 2🤣
Take the back panel off reach in wile spinning plastic fan feel the big nut put a socket on it remove plastic fan clockwise put new one on replace back panel done.
Thanks for the great tip! 20 years and I’m still patching this old washer/ dryer set up.
Good deal!
"Incase youre in this same spot" Thats exactly why im here! haha im in that exact spot
Bad engineering lead us all to that exact spot :)
Omg I'm so close. 8 don't have the tool to get the metal piece off. I'm going crazy. But I do have a will. There will be a way!

Sounds like a plan!

Unfortunately, that's all I could think that would be possible. Bummer!

I need help.

Get a chisel lol
Didn’t work for me!
Angle grinder is more macho. LOL
