My fan nut had cracked so o had to chip and break away the plastic so I could get enough clearance to hammer away the plastic fan and housing from the motor. Then I use the crescent wrench to hold the back of the motor to twist off the nose exposed fan nut. Thanks for the tip I was stumped! Now fixed!
5:33 I had to cut off the front of the housing and then used a propane torch to melt the plastic away. The alloy nut must have separated from the plastic. Had to use 2 locking pliers to grab the shaft near the front (under where the blower fan wheel was) because holding the back of the shaft didn't work. Crazy annoying job but it's great now.
I’m having a very difficult time getting the big nut off of the shaft of the motor.To confirm it is supposed to come off so as to facilitate putting on the new blower wheel?? Any help is appreciated Thank you in advance
Sometimes they seize on, and need to be cut off. Try spraying threads with liquid wrench or tri flow first, if that doesn't work you'll have to carefully cut it off.
My Kenmore (aka Frigidaire) gas dryer is 20 years old. My blower wouldn't turn at all. Thanks for the tip on chiseling out the plastic to get to the nut. That said, that long metal nut inside the blower was "fused" to the spindle of the motor. I tried to cut it off with a Dremel, but it was as if the metals were fused together. Had to buy new blower and a new motor. My drum is stainless steel and still good. One part I could not find was the WHITE bracket Spacer that supports the drum. My old YELLOW one does not extend to the drum rim. Do you know know the P/N or a source for the WHITE spacer in your video?
I don't know the part number. If its the spacer at the top your talking about it is not necessary to keep. Half of them don't even have it to begin with. I think it is just for ease of manufacturing purposes
My wheel looks just like this and the blower housing and everything are the same. The blower wheel looks like it has a plastic 'nut' on it, but it looks as though the plastic nut is a fixed part on the entire blower wheel itself. How do I remove the blower wheel?
Its either a left, or right hand thread. This means you need to determine the direction of loosening. Typically there's an arrow on the blower wheel to loosen, or tighten the wheel. There's too many model variations, variables to mention. I use the proper size socket, and a vise grip to grab the motor shaft. I couldn't say which style threads you have, generally speaking I have the replacement part on hand, and inspect the threads for handing direction, and go from there. I also own a pair of vise grips that have been modified over the years to slip into the tight motor shaft spacing that helps tremendously. Hope this helps!

My issue is that the 'nut' that I have looks like it is a fixed whole part of the entire blower wheel and doesn't seem to come off for some reason. It is like one big wheel with a plastic solid front shaped like a nut. Very strange. But also my motor does this sharp half-second scraping sound when it is first turned on, so I think the motor or motor bearings may be going. I ordered a used replacement motor with housing already attached because I can't get the blade off from the housing. I've been checking various videos and some have commented that they had to burn away or chip away the plastic down to the nut because they couldn't get the wheel off any other way and it was fixed together somehow.
Yes, the blower wheel in this video comes built in to the housing, its not possible to separate the 2. I don't recall exactly the nut configuration, but it may have a steel nut inside the bigger plastic nut. I have had to dremmel those off of motor shafts in the past. If that's the case caution must be exercised to not damage the threads on the motor shaft. But if your motor is bad the. It doesn't matter much. Hard to say what the motor noise actually is. As I mentioned with the blower nuts separating, that can create a noise. I would remove the blower assembly then run the motor by itself to test.

Loosening this SHOULD be a clockwise turn, but it won't budge for me. Were you just having trouble because you were turning counter-clockwise (I'm looking at your reply below). Any advice is appreciated -- this thing is STUCK! 😮

Did you have to turn it or how did you get it off? Mine is on pretty darn good
along with the ball socket- i would lube the tensioner pulley shaft and the motor shaft where the centrifugal switch rides

How did you get that big nut off of the motor after chipping away all the plastic? Mine is stuck on.
Dremel with a fine cutting wheel works best.
