    Thanks, this told me what I needed to do. My only problem is that the fan has separated from the bushing, so I am going to have to find another way to remove the fan.

      If you are replacing the whole thing you can just cut off what ever is hung up. You can try a vise grip to hold the bushing while you turn the motor shaft, but if you can get the bushing off you may have to cut it off, just do not damage the threads.

    Thank you for this video. It was very thorough in replacing my part.
    Upon reassembly though, the dryer drum itself seems to be "tight" to spin. This was not an issue prior to part replacement. The motor fights to spin the drum so I turn off the machine before i seemingly burn it out. I tried the belt/ tensioner/ spring steps 3 different times with the same unfortuneate results. Any suggestions?

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  9 років тому

      craigg farnsworth I would double check everything is put together correctly. Make sure the ball on the rear of the drum is pushed down into the bearing if not the drum may sit at an angle and not spin, make sure the rear felt is not jamming it up, make sure the front felts are in good condition and the drum rides smoothly on it, with the belt off make sure the motor and blower turn freely then correctly reinstall the belt.

    thank you so much, my problem though, is that the motor bearings/bushings is worn, can these be replaced, or does the entire motor has to be replaced?

    A correction to your video. There are little plastic feet on the blower unit that must be positioned into the dryers slots in the metal bottom of the dryer or the alignment will be off and the blower will rub on the housing or wear out prematurely.

    • @WesPreston
      @WesPreston 5 років тому

      Agreed. The video kind of over-simplifies the "just put the blower back in". The shaft is obvious. I was struggling with aligning the plastic/rubber gasket that's around the shaft and between the motor and blower assembly - the one that needs to sit in the slot on the back side of the blower and is held in by the "plastic support clip". Once you see the plastic feet and slots, it comes together much more easily. Thanks Jonathan!

    3:36 Turn clockwise to loosen the fan wheel... but it may not come off ...if so: You may need remove the motor along with the housing to cut the blower housing off so you can cut the blower wheel plastic off. Then use 2 pairs of locking pliers... one pair on the hub (that separated from the blower wheel) and one pair of pliers on the shaft just behind the hub.

    • @robnation2475

      @@fessensj Unplug dryer 😉Remove old blower wheel from the dryer and use vise grips as I mentioned above. It's been a couple of years but I think I chopped off all of the plastic on the old assembly to get a good spot to lock the vise-grips on. Wear eye protection and gloves. (I almost lost an eye from flying plastic years ago😨). Just be aware of what you can destroy and what you need to reuse prior to your attack. Mine was "stuck good"! I was highly annoyed and swearing at it repeatedly. (I wrench on many cars, mowers etc and this silly blower was surprisingly a major PITA)
      I also used my air compressor and a shop-vac to clean out all the funk/dust/fuzz while the parts were removed. Good time to consider a solid dryer vent (instead of a flex exhaust hose) to avoid a house fire. Some high quality 3" vinyl tape is great to seal up ducts (factory duct connections allow for dust to escape).
      I got my dryer 15 years ago for $75 and I still use it every day😀. I even added 12" square sheets of noise deadening material on the interior walls and inside the door (took door apart). Same type of noise deadening material used for car stereo installs. I installed a new drum bearing when I did the blower since I had it all apart and I imagine this dryer will run another 15 years. Super quiet now. Better than anything you can buy new IMO. Have fun!

      @@fessensj I think I used a number of tools like a hack/jab saw, aviation snips and my beloved Knipex "74-250" diagonal cutters. Knipex pliers "88-250" are amazingly helpful to grab an rip off plastic as well.

    Is there another model that uses the same blower fan? I don't want to buy the whole unit I just want the fan. I have the plastic unit opened up by melting the plastic welds to gain access. Now I just need an interchangeable fan.

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  9 років тому

      THETOPGLOCK I think this style is only sold as the complete assembly. You can go to our website and enter the appliance model number to see how it is sold. Frigidaire is not really known for putting part numbers on parts but if there are any numbers on the old blower wheel itself, you can try to enter it on our site to see if it comes up as a part sold separately.

  • @2wheels1world

    Thank you! Great video, helped immensely. Problem I encountered is the threaded metal core of the fan is really stuck. When I tried to loosen the blower wheel with the 5/8s socket, it wouldn't budge and I ended up rounding the plastic 'nut'. So I chiseled the remaining plastic off thinking I could get a better grip on the threaded metal portion once the blower was removed. Unfortunately, I still can't loosen the threaded metal core of the blower wheel. I have used locking pliers everywhere I can possibly get a grip on, double checked I was loosening clockwise, used penetrating oil, checked again on clockwise removal, hit it.... ahem, tapped it with said locking pliers and still no go. Reviewed again the anti 'righty tighty' rule and started considering a small torch but decided to post a question first. Very frustrating as this is my first appliance repair and it was going so well!! Any other Ideas on how I can get this old threaded metal core off? I don't own a small rotary tool (dremel) (yet).

      @@elizabethmunoz4000 Late reply, but: I'm having the same problem. by the looks of it, your best bet might be to cut the old housing apart so you can get vice grips on the remainers of the bushing.
      Incredibly frustrating that the housing is plastic-welded together. Only my fan is broken. If not for the plastic welded housing, this would be a 15 minute repair.
