I smoked a joint with this dude outside the Rave in Milwaukee. Super humble and chill guy, he also gave me a drumstick at a different show where they played with BOO and AtB at Knights of Colombus.
Oh my god dude that's great. But I understand how you feel. But I have played on both right-handed and left-handed drum sets. It's weird being a left-handed and doing something backwards but the kicker is I play right-handed guitar.
Many left-handed drummers play on right-handed drumkits, that's why we think there aren't so many. Thomas Pridgen is a good example of a left-handed top drummer playing like a right-handed on a right-handed kit.
Same. A big reason I bought tickets in the first place was because I thought they were gonna be playing all their old shit. They even advertised the tour using all the bands' older album covers(Rareform, The Common Man's Collapse, The New Reign). Kinda tricked me.
Whoever mixed the audio for this did a HORRIBLE job!!! The cymbals are barely audible and those drums sound like crap. And Tama are good drums too wtf!!!!
Favorite core drummer next to Matt Kyukendall. Theis is one the drummers that help inspire me to do better at drums. I wouldn't have educated feet ike i do if weren't for drummers like these.
1.) The bass is louder than nearly every piece on this kit. 2.) Did somebody just scoop the treble on this recording or does it just have no high end at all? Sounds like it was recorded through a potato. You're a really good drummer but somebody clearly cut you short...
Nick Alexander Here's what I mean: At about 1:45, he does a roll that ends with two cymbal hits that aren't in the actual audio, and throughout the breakdown starting at 3:33 every time he hits the snare in the recording he clearly hits a different china than he is riding which doesn't happen in the video. I know he wrote it and he is clearly a talented drummer, but those little things bug me.
Nick Alexander In fact, toward the end of that same breakdown he is clearly riding a crash in the audio, yet he maintains riding the china in the video.
Sam's face the entire time - -_____-
Yeah, because their old shit was actually intricate and difficult to play.
SpermyWormy2 their shit is still good
SpermyWormy2 and this was off their first album so the point is invalid...
Sam is probably one of the most consistent drummers in metal. He really holds these guys together.
first time i heard the bass in a VOM song ever
I never thought a guy who looks like he sells corn cob pipes would be one of my favorite drummers, but here we are. Sam is wonderful.
I smoked a joint with this dude outside the Rave in Milwaukee. Super humble and chill guy, he also gave me a drumstick at a different show where they played with BOO and AtB at Knights of Colombus.
Its a right handers nightmare
Yeah man, you don't see many left-handed musicians in known bands. I love to see my kind in the spotlight
Oh my god dude that's great. But I understand how you feel. But I have played on both right-handed and left-handed drum sets. It's weird being a left-handed and doing something backwards but the kicker is I play right-handed guitar.
Ian Wood Dominic Howard is left handed, and he plays in one of the biggest bands in the world!
Surely it's no more difficult whatever way round you play.
Many left-handed drummers play on right-handed drumkits, that's why we think there aren't so many.
Thomas Pridgen is a good example of a left-handed top drummer playing like a right-handed on a right-handed kit.
holy FUCK that splash cymbal murdered my ears
The best way is watching the video from a mirror.
gotta come back and watch this every now and then
Christ, those over heads barely made it into the mix wtf.
yea dude like @ 3:28 on the snare pops it's picking up the china and making it louder than the overheads
looks like they arent even mic'd
DanTheManMillan it's because he is playing the China and it's on a crash in recording. He isn't playing the same cymbals.
Did this person mix the bass only because the bass is louder the drums and guitar haha
Unique style! I love it.
Liked. MOAR PLAYTHROUGHS!
That is amazing. Yeahya........
beautifull kit and skill...BEAST..
Awesome as always, Sam. Insane drummer.
awww thank you! 😂😂
engineer loved that splash
I was so upset they didn't play this for the Sumerian 10 year tour.... Definitely my favorite VOM song.
They still killed it though haha
Same. A big reason I bought tickets in the first place was because I thought they were gonna be playing all their old shit. They even advertised the tour using all the bands' older album covers(Rareform, The Common Man's Collapse, The New Reign). Kinda tricked me.
Pure awesomeness.
Whoever mixed the audio for this did a HORRIBLE job!!! The cymbals are barely audible and those drums sound like crap. And Tama are good drums too wtf!!!!
+Michael Moore terrible audio engineer
+Michael Moore yes, there exists more potential.. he didn't take care about that drum record quality
amazing drummer
this dude should be on a band he is so good!
haha Good ironic joke :D
left handed?
Nice work.
You had me at "Knees collapsing..."
Awesome! Y'all should do some bass, guitar and more drum playthroughs
Favorite core drummer next to Matt Kyukendall. Theis is one the drummers that help inspire me to do better at drums. I wouldn't have educated feet ike i do if weren't for drummers like these.
watching him play left handed makes it seem 1000 times harder to play lol
I had no idea he was a lefty! That's rare.
Brutal!!!
oh shit, toby from office rocks hard and shit
Omg he does look like Toby!
Psshhh psshhhh psssshhh says the stax! :)
I
Lol
Hail veil of maya!!!
I love Sam's drumming but whoever mixed this needs to go to an audiologist
For real. Fuckin splash is the loudest piece on the whole kit...
KNEES COLLAPSING.
WE BOW IN ITS AURRAAAAAAAAAA
When's the new album comin out?? It's been too long man
ankle strength over 9000
We bow to Sam applebaum more like it
What is the name of the song from the beginning of the video?
where can I get those veil of maya drumsticks?
+Tim Brown i think they only make them for him, like a custom order for artists since its a regular 5B with his name on it
well theres only one place i know of but inought a pair at their merch tent during warped tour
what kind of nikes are those?
I think Air Max
Air Max Go Strong
Thanks
Sweeeet drumming
How much you smokeweed to compose this?
How much you smoke to compose this?
i cant be the only one wondering how he has that amazing beautiful sound on his floor tom
triggers
get you some triggers homie shits are fire
Is it a Tama Superstar Hyperdrive kit?
Yes
FUCK bro, you guys are too good... chill out
Those fuckin' shoelaces
OH wait. It was just a shadow cast on the shoes hahah
What is the first song?
Pause at 3:58 and look it his face lol
is he using Speed Cobras?
#leftypride #represent does anyone know what that intro song is called in the very beginning? Just recently got into VOM sorry
the song is [id]
Damn, this is sick as fuck!
So this is Sam i am?!... He can drum, and he can jam.. Sam i am is damn....GOOD
lefties ftw!! always made me love VoM that much more.
You gotta appreciate his right wrist when he's doing blast beats
Anyone know what pedals he plays? I know I could find it by looking at a few videos but I'm lazy. lol
Pearl Eliminators I think
Tama Speed Cobra
pedals don't magically make you play better/faster. That's all practice
+Bryson Dowell how in the hell did you get a movable avatar?
just a gif. didnt do anything special but check the file size :))
What was the intro song!?
the intro was [id], first track from the album of the same name
name of the song in intro
+Doge Mcknight from the Album [id] .. Intro Song [id] it's only 0:43 :(
They should get Matt Halpern to do a Drum Play through of Ragnarok!
I'd love to actually hear the drums
WHAT IS THE SONG AT THE START?
The title track off "id". The song before "Unbreakable".
Taylor Christy The song itself is also [id]
Siddhant Vetekar Hence why it's the title track.
Taylor Christy This one sounds like its remade. Which sounds so much better than the one on the album.
sup negus It's not remade at all. It's just two different sections cut together.
1:52
yeah wtf was that
Drew Thompson
won't....get...loud....enough
Talk about splash cymbal AM I RIGHT!
Thumps up for real drums :-)
if you'll put the video to 1.5 speed you can see the utlimate technical level of humanity.
Finally I find the correct mixing of the album
What's up with the mix on this? Everything sounds really muffled.
What is that meinl hihat? MEINL I want them
Josh Gotshall extreme metal hihats but they sound alott darker than that these are obviously mixed very well
JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH YHVH LOVES YOU!
that fucking snare kills me...what type is it??
little late but its a tama SC 6x13 B Snare Drum (Piano Black)
great video and drummer but it needs better recording at least for the cymbals
I refuse to label VoM a core band. Anyways.... one of the last good metal acts on Sumerian who hasn't sold out.
lefty guitarist seeing a lefty drummer with a left-handed setup is messing with my brain
Lefty kits just look so strange to me.
1.) The bass is louder than nearly every piece on this kit.
2.) Did somebody just scoop the treble on this recording or does it just have no high end at all? Sounds like it was recorded through a potato.
You're a really good drummer but somebody clearly cut you short...
The mixing could have been better. His drumming is amazing though.
In the grand scheme of Veil of Maya, this is a very boring song to choose as a drum playthrough.
Also, those cymbal inaccuracies were really annoying.
But he's the drummer of the band, so I'm sure he doesn't really care too much
I don't know what that means.
Inaccurate? He wrote the drum parts...
Nick Alexander
Here's what I mean:
At about 1:45, he does a roll that ends with two cymbal hits that aren't in the actual audio, and throughout the breakdown starting at 3:33 every time he hits the snare in the recording he clearly hits a different china than he is riding which doesn't happen in the video. I know he wrote it and he is clearly a talented drummer, but those little things bug me.
Nick Alexander
In fact, toward the end of that same breakdown he is clearly riding a crash in the audio, yet he maintains riding the china in the video.
The playing is awesome, the recording...not so much. Those toms are God, however!
Sick playing. Terrible mix, the cymbals are so quiet? Everything sounds dull and lo-fi. None the less an amazing drummer and crazy playing :)
Everything but the kick sound like ass on this kit
Jesus terrible mix...
Terrible mix
Good try on the mix. This could have sounded better haha. Why such an old song. I mean I love it but shouldn't they be promoting new toonage?
To be a drum playthrough this is a terrible mix.
what is the name of the song on the beginning plz ?
It's their intro off their album I.D. Search Veil of Maya - I.D
lefties ftw!! always made me love VoM that much more.
What is the song in the beginning?
Blake U [id]
