Do you really think so? I mean I think what you're trying to say is that he is in your opinion a really great drummer, and I would agree! However my impression is that Haken is one of the bigger names currently in prog and that they are well known for their musicianship. So unless there is some kind of wide spread obliviousness towards the bands drummer specifically, I would say your statement is categorically false. Anyway, my comment here is definitely nit-picky and quite irrelevant but i see this comment made about a bunch of musicians and would like to know how your internal rating system functions. Oh and in this case you even specified "in prog", while others I think often mean to say something like: "this musician should be famous instead of [ insert famous pop-artist(s) ]". Aaaanyway
@@Hamring Ray is like one of my favorite drummers! Haken is my in my top three favorite bands! It’s insane what they’re able to do. Of course the other two favorites are rush and dream theater!😁
@@the_vinson you're absolutely right. It's not the same as playing a Whitechapel song, for example. The challenge here is like playing a "tongue twister" at an nightmare level, as if DT's "The Dance of Eternity" was just a standard warm-up!
I really can't believe how much Ray's drumming improved on this album (and into Virus as well). I can handle most of the stuff on drums before Vector, but this? Naw.
One of my favorite things about Haken has been seeing Raymond get better and better on every album. Aquarius is like beginner prog rock, and now we have stuff like this from him. It’s been incredible following him on the journey (minus the fact that every new album is harder than the last to follow on drums...)
Yeah his progression (pun intended) is phenomenal. The leap between The Mountain and Affinity is insane. If ya didn't know of him, you'd probably think they had two different drummers over their career.
My god.. That look of accomplishment at 5:41. Goosebumps during that wide fill section. That must feel so rewarding to play that bit towards the end. It's massive!
The last 2 minutes of this song gave me chills. I can't believe I had never heard of this band before. You're such a beast man. Thanks for introducing me to this band as well. 😆
Just discovered them from this video too. So far I've listened to The Mountain and Vector and I just checked out some tracks from Virus tonight before coming back to watch Rudi slay this song 🤘 but yeah I'm now a Haken fan for sure.
@@1987lildrummer I'm still listening to Aquarius. I'll listen to Visions next.
@@michaelberresford4291 Yeah, the main vocals reminded me a bit of Native Construct, but not as theatrical, which I liked. I wish there were more harsh vocals though, like the way Between the Buried and Me does. I'm still listening to Aquarius though, so I can only speak for that album.
@@BoogieWoogieCat There are only a couple songs in their catalogue that have harsh vocals, Streams I'm guessing you've heard thinking there might be more, and Architect from a later album which features the vocalist from Leprous for the harsh section. 99% of it is clean vocals though. I believe Ross is part of another band that does more growls, I'm just not into that vocal style.
It is a great band, I have been fortunate enough to see them a couple of times. Ray Hearne went godly on the drums from The Mountain and forwards. Their newest, Virus, is absolutely insane.
Discovered Threat Signal, and decided to go digging around and found that you JUST covered a legendary song by one of my favorite groups... GOOD SHIT DUDE!!!!
Don’t know what to say 🤯 I always knew that rays Drumparts are off the roof and sick, but it gets an entirely different spotlight SEEING it played! Great work, Alex! Loved it as always!

Favourite drummer at the moment he just keeps blowing me away, he's not super extreme like tech death (doesn't mean he don't do nuclear blast though ffs I'm so shit) but the complexity is getting close to Portnoy/Manguini levels of bullshitery, as is prog😁. But for me personally, I really like the groove in a lot of his parts, I just really like his style.
Man that drum and cymbal mix is beautiful. Great cover. Also love all the little stories with a breakdown of your gear. I'm a bit of a gear nerd myself.
As a big fan of both Rudi and Haken, this makes me incredibly happy! As soon as the song came out, I started wishfully hoping that Rudi would cover it. I never expected it to happen though. Then one day, I saw one of his Instagram stories, and it had Nil By Mouth playing in the background. Fast forward a year or so and here we are - This is gonna be my new go-to drum video for awhile!
I am so obssessed with this song, the whole end section has got to be the hardest bunch of licks I've ever had the pleasure to hear, you also inspire too much in me Alex, I wish I'd never fallen out of drumming everyday
Excellent! Amazing one hand double and triple surface coordinated patterns. Outstanding and inspiring to say the least. Now let me get back to my RLRR LRLL.
As always phenomenal drumming. The best production. And man....the absolute cleanest drum kit finish on this one! That burnt orange and black hardware is..whooo!
Mad respect when Alex Rudinger says your parts are awesome. Ray doesn't seem like as big a name as some others in the drummer world, but i think i have as hard a time trying to follow his stuff as anyone
I've watched this video like 10 or 12 times already and I get mind-fucking-blown everytime. Can't go wrong with Haken! :D Alex, you made and absolute kill of a cover!! lml 🔥🔥🔥
Ray hearne is one of the most underrated drummers in prog

Maybe just in general

Lol

what are you talking about

Been pretty good so far; looking forward to those two minutes.
My mind is blown. I first saw Alex play-through of Dismantle the Dictator and my mind was blown then, too. Both Alex and Ray are highly underrated! 🤯
5:10 - 5:41
One of the best drum part of music history. FREAKING AWESOME!!
Totally agree
He looks like an octopus. Alex is an incredible drummer.
Absolutelly amazing .drum part from hell this is... both drummers deserve to be kings of world
That part at 5:28 was amazing, love how you could tell how happy he was after he got it perfect, wonder how many takes this one took
Watching Haken playing this song live was craaaazy, one of my best memories
Ooooo please do more Haken! I'd love to see you play "Prosthetic", "Carousel" and/or "1985".
Yesss need to see him play Carousel!
Finally some Haken love!

This makes me want to practice and at the same time stop playing drums forever
Ditto! :D
Agree mate :)
Legit 🤘🏼😭
one of the best drumkit compositions, ever, period
It's always really cool to see ACD pedals, Dennis makes such incredible stuff.
