    MESHUGGAH is:
    Jens Kidman - Vocals
    Fredrik Thordendal - Guitars
    Tomas Haake - Drums
    Mårten Hagström - Guitars
    Dick Lövgren - Bass
    Lyrics:
    Clockworks
    Dismantling the clockwork that makes me the cynic
    Pallet, wheel and click
    The properties of my indifference
    Reverse-engineering what makes it tick
    Dissecting the finetuned mechanism
    Rack and barrel, spring and pin
    Its synchronous characteristics
    To kill what makes it spin
    Disassemble this machinery
    Re-program these eyes, undo this design
    Labelled and filed, each part indexed
    Broken to pieces then thoroughly burned
    Deconstruction of what I am
    Buried to make sure he never returns
    Taken apart, defused, blueprints turned to ashes
    Eradicate the last remains, remnants of the insane
    Disintegration, the destruction of me now imperative
    To purge myself of this condition, complete this dissolution a necessity
    Break this deceitful machine
    A lie, what once I was, obsolete instrument
    An outmoded contraption, a malfunctioning device
    That callous self now extinguished, that malignant self now disused
    That conceited invention to nothing now reduced
    Complete disintegration, the destruction of me now imperative
    To purge myself of this condition, complete this dissolution a necessity
    Break this deceitful machine

    My two favorite drummers, Danny Carey and Tomas. Carey feels like an angel who descended from the sky with his intuitive polyrhythms and spiritual playing. Haake on the other hand plays like he's powering some machinery in the depths of hell.

Its weird.. but I can cover stuff like this no problem all of a sudden. I've always had metronome in my head, since I was in 4th grade and all I could pay attention to was the seconds clicking on a 1980s clock. . but when I started drumming at 18, it took me YEARS to finally just get it. • @manjay49
    @manjay49 7 років тому +246

    He is very relaxed. He is actually grooving the whole time, like an R&R or jazz drummer. That is the thing that separates him from other metalist/heavy drummers. And there are lots of ghost notes and subtle accents in his dynamics. He is also a composer and lyricist as well as being a highly accomplished musician. The volient sound and extreme nature of the music tends to "hide" some of these factors. One counter-intuitive way to appreciate him, and the the band more, is to turn the volume way down and listen attentively, as an "objective observer". Later, you can "get into it" and "go crazy". Peace.

    This seems like it should be beyond the realm of plausibility. I feel like this shouldn't even be remotely possible. It's like most drummers keep time with whatever their dominant hand is, but I'm watching him stop tracking time with his dominant hand and temporarily shift to his off-hand - but the fucking right hand is still going away steady while the other half of his cognition is off doing something else without it. And this is all just his hands! We haven't even talked about what's going on with the kicks. Holy fuck, this shouldn't be possible.

    Thank you Nuclear Blast & Meshuggah & Tomas Haake. This is exactly the kind of stuff real fans want to see. I don't take it for granted you guys posted this, you easily could not have but it is MUCH appreciated. We'd also love to see guitar playthroughs as well, maybe next time.

    Everything you hear here was recorded in one take, EVERYTHING. That's how good a drummer Tomas is, he doesn't need a band - he just plays and the universe answers back!

    Can I point out that the riffage is actually the sickest part in this. Thomas follows those insanely tuned and timed guitar-bass phrases and of course makes the whole thing bond and feel like a waterfall of steel pouring down on you. His technical ability of course is jaw-dropping. But it begins with the riffs.

      I think it depends on the song too. For example, for me as well, here it starts with the riff. But in a song like say demiurge I think it's the drum groove that the riff sits on top of

    • @chrismoran5201
      @chrismoran5201 3 роки тому +1

      yep, you nailed it. he's just creating around the riffs. hell i thought that's how ALL music progressed through times... LOL Guess that's just the guitarist in me. I have helped MANY drummers become WAY better drummers by teaching them a little theory and structure, but MOST important...??? teach em how to tune a guitar, THEN teach em how to tune their drums... you will see MANY lights come on after THAT session!!!

    Here's some advice to all drummers:
    Speed never matters when drumming
    What matters is coordination and separation of limbs
    And don't try to sound better than Tomas Haake, try to sound better than the way you played the other day because if you do that then someday you may even sound better than Tomas Haake because he didn't do this shit in one night
    Just saying this too cuz personally I haven't heard anyone say this is easy but I've seen too many people try it thinking they did it right
    But anyway this song is FIRE

      You will never be Tomas Hakke, you will never be Chad Smith, you will never be Buddy Rich but, you will ALWAYS be yourself. Do better only for you, nobody else. This way, you always see improvement, instead of striving for the impossible.

    • @nunyabiznazz2775
      @nunyabiznazz2775 5 років тому +4

      LOL Did you just say Chad Smith.....? Chad Smith bows to a Haake shrine every night offering baby sacrifices in praise and worship. No contest.

    • @MrLioncash
      @MrLioncash 5 років тому +7

      Chad Smith is a seriously recognised player, it wasn't a comparison it was a fact. Comparing players to each other or yourself is a totally pointless exercise. It's about expressing who you are and what you want to say to the world. Haake is a phenomenal player but you wouldn't find him playing the kind of music Chad Smith plays.. they aren't the same person. How else do you think music finds it's way to uniqueness?

    • @nunyabiznazz2775

      yeah ok man. thank you sir wise one. I will forever be enlightened by your extreme wisdom...………… LMAO dude I can probably slap polyrhythms around you for days..... I'm tired of your types, always something to prove LOL.... but thanks for the couple of absolutely retarded comments, I got quite the chuckle. Chad Smith doesn't TOUCH Haake. The fact you'd even mention them in the same sentence shows what level you are on. Tah tah grasshopper.
