    I have 2009 traverse with 182k miles. It's been a reliable vehicle for our family for the last 15 years . Daily driver and our vacation vehicle.Just regular maintenance, oil change every 5k miles . Still looks good and still runs strong like the first day we got it.

    Yea have a 2017 Chevy traverse and I have not had any major problems. Only a wheel alignment and light bulb change. Got it with 40,000 miles on it. All I have to do now is replace tires. I’ve had it over a year. It drives great.

    Let me say first and foremost...1AAuto is by far one of the most reliable sources of information for anything automotive. You all are very efficient and effective in what y'all do...especially this young man for thoroughly going through every single issue I have or had with a gifted 2009 Chevy Traverse. Let me say again every single issue he went through are the issues I have minus the tailgate that was fixed when it was purchased. It does run and drive very well overall with only 138k miles on it. I now have the knowledge to address and fix these issues.
    Thank you very much for everything y'all do!!!

    My 2011 Traverse has 240k on it. It still has the original engine and transmission. I’ve replaced the front struts, water pump, camshaft sensors, VVT solenoids, and catalytic converters. I do 10,000 mile oil changes with synthetic oil and Lucas oil stabilizer. I never have to add oil between changes. Considering the horror stories that I hear from other traverse owners, I feel like we’ve been blessed with a pretty reliable vehicle. I never expected to get this much service life out of it.

    Just bought 2014 Traverse AWD in August, 2022 for $21.5K. About 108k miles, suddenly my wife says she can’t go over 25 mph. I immediately think to myself “Drivetrain.” Thank God we put $5000 down to qualify for the 3yr warranty for transmission and engine replacement in the event of failure. I’m already very sketch about this damn vehicle with such a few miles. UPDATE: mechanic says he can’t find anything wrong with it!! Then we get it back and break down again. Now it’s BACK in the shop

    From a Traverse Form…
    I have a 2012 Traverse that started using oil about a quart every 1000 miles. I removed the air tube from the filter to the throttle. Oil was inside. 2012 doesn’t have a PCV valve, just a metal unit with small inlet hole and two small exit holes. This plugged and pressurized the engine and oil was pushed into the intake. I replaced this can and increased hole sizes almost double. Stopped my oil consumption. I don’t know if the 2019 has the same. Check for oil in the air intake, if it’s there, probably the positive crankcase tube is plugged. I also spray a little cleaner into the rube to this every oil change.

    • @jamesmadison9244
      @jamesmadison9244 2 роки тому +5

      Exactly! This tiny breather valve is the cause of excess oil consumption, gummed throttle body causing stabilitrak problems, timing chain issues and gummed valves. I can’t believe this has not been fixed with a recall.

    Forgot the main problem with the Travers/Enclave/Acadia - the POS 3.6L V6 and its need to have absolutely perfect oil condition and level at all times unless you want to replace timing chains. Seriously, if you have one of these behemoth piles of junk check your oil level at least every other week and don't follow the maintenance guide on oil changes - change the oil every 3-5k (depending on driving style). The 3.6L is too small of an engine for the weight of these and any stress will cause timing chain stretch and premature timing chain failure

      @neustkg 3 роки тому +8

      I have a 2011 Traverse. Has 215k miles. I'm pretty happy with it. But I agree, you do need to watch the oil level and use full synthetic oil (I like Penzoil Platinum) and a very good oil filter.

    Wish my dealer watched this before replacing my purge valve. Problem remained, they said there was a valve at the tank and it would be really expensive to replace.
    I wasn’t driving the car much, so I thought maybe the valve gummed up from aging gas. Put in two bottles of Techron in a full tank and took a 200 mile round trip over a weekend. No problems since, that was 3 years and 30k miles ago.

    2012 Traverse: Ive got the front struts, transmission slipping hard, and difficult to open rear hatch arms. Sometimes the engine sounds like it's skipping a beat when in third gear. Also, Rear AC lines I have found to also be a common issue on forums. There is a plastic coolant line bracket on the back of the engine that breaks, allowing the coolant line to rub against the Rear AC high pressure line and blow it out. Aftermarket AC lines from AutoCoolingSolutions and $400 labor got mine fixed. But then the lines to the condenser blew out on the drive home from the shop that very same day. I wont be getting a Traverse ever again, it seems that everything is failing all at once at 115k miles

    I've had 2 issues with my wife's 2017 Traverse. She went over the service life on the transmission fluid and it started to slip. Changed the fluid and filter and did a flush, reset the shifting on the TCM and it fixed the problem. Problem #2 was the engine coolant temp sensor. It is right next to the front exhaust manifold. It made the ac stop working, too. When i squeezed the electrical plug to disconnect from the sensor it disintegrated in my hand and I had to replace that too. The pigtail was triple the cost of the sensor. Ridiculous!

    Our 2010 Chevy Traverse is a serious oil burner (we need to check it twice a month or it may go below minimum). It seems to be a very common issue on the direct-injected engines (the PCV seems to be designed for the much lower pressures of indirect fuel injection), which also wears out the timing chain prematurely (ours ended up needing replaced, even with us filling the oil regularly; it passed the point of no return). Another issue seems to be the headlights--we replaced both low beam bulbs last year, and one of them is burnt out again (and no, we did not touch the bulb shell).

Looked at mom and pop shops, $4200 for a new transmission with a 20k mile warranty. So i called chevy. $4500 including labor for brand new gm 6 speed with 100k mile warranty. I have a 2017 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE LT AWD with 130k miles on it, that has several sporadic issues with no check engine lights. Occasionally, when accelerating, especially at higher speeds to get on the freeway, shifting from fourth or fifth gear I get a loud grinding noise. Also occasionally when I accelerate the car has a shudder from 35-40 mph. As for braking, occasionally the car will shake (visibly noticeable as the steering wheel shakes) but it is not constant and there is no brake noise. While driving the car seems to have an issue with possible misfires or bad gasoline I don’t know which but occasionally as you drive down the road you’ll feel the engine sort of shudder. You don’t lose any power or anything there is just a random little shimmy every once in a while. Again no check engine lights and when I take it to the dealer they can’t get the car to replicate the issues.

    So I have a transmission issue, but I have been able to work around it for the past two years. I bought this Traverse from a friend and he made me aware of the issue before I purchased it. The issue is that one of the gears gets stuck and I have to pullover and put the vehicle in park and then put it in drive again. That fixes the problem. But, one of the things I’ve learned since I’ve had this vehicle is I that I have to leave the vehicle in drive and not hit the gas pedal for about five seconds to prevent this issue. I have to wait until I feel a thump before I hit the gas pedal. It almost feels as if the first gear has engaged. Once I feel that thump I can hit the gas pedal and the gears normally never get stuck. I notice that if I hit the gas pedal before that thump it almost always gets stuck. I can live with that since I’ve had no issues in the last two years, but I don’t know if there is a solution to that problem that is not too complicated. I have not changed the transmission fluid and I do plan on doing that soon. I don’t know if anyone has experienced the same thing and if they can share any suggestions.

    I have a 2013 Traverse bought new and I regret it because it cost me $7K to replace the transmission at 100K miles only!!!! And I don't even tow!!! I also have the strut problems as I feel every little rock on the road now. And I have the problem with the window controller. The other issue is electrical. The rear door struts are the easiest to replace if it becomes an issue.
    I do NOT recommend a Traverse because it's a money pit, although I have to say it saved my family and my life when the car hydroplaned at 60 mph in heavy rain. The wide profile ensured it didn't flip over as I went sideways at 45 degree angle on the bank and was able to correct myself turning the wheel towards the direction of motion. I feel a narrower vehicle would have flipped over.

Then I did a flush that seemed to be a temporary fix but in a short period of time the problem returned. I ordered a new transmission. until it was replaced, I had to start out in low gear until my engine got up to between 2500 - 3000 rpm and shifted into drive. It eliminated the shake and rattle but there was still slight hesitation in the high range. My new remanufactured transmission has a warranty of 300,000 miles.

    I have a 2016 Traverse and it’s been nothing but headaches. Stabilitrak issues causing it to go into limp mode, Wiring harness failure, replaced transmission, replaced computer system, engine stalling, misfires, you name it. I don’t even want to add up how much I have actually spent on repairs for this car. For YEARS neither the dealers nor private mechanics could figure out the issue.….if your Traverse is 2018 Or older, I encourage you to check a TSB from January 2018 re: a power steering leak. It’s due to a faulty design and power steering fluid slowly leaks into the wiring harness and other electrical components of the car, causing a majority of the issues I just mentioned. If you have a good mechanic, they can figure out a workaround, but there is no permanent fix. Mine “wrapped “the faulty hose, which allows the slow leaking power steering fluid to divert away from the wiring harness and other parts of the car. Even if you replace the hose, it will happen again because of the design. My mechanic only discovered it after taking a camera and going inside the engine and other areas to discover it was completely saturated with power steering fluid this short-circuited everything and created the issues I mentioned above. If you were having similar issues with your Chevy traverse, I encourage you to talk to your mechanic about the January 2018 TSB that discusses the power steering hose leak. Well it won’t fix every problem, it could be the root cause for many.
