- Trey Sandhoff's 1989 GT has nearly 173,000 miles, but it drives like it's brand new! As you can see, it's been through some changes and has some very tasteful mods. An all Saleen exterior package, full exhaust, and some other goodies were installed.

Most impressive mustang ever put into mass production. Easy to modify, respond extremely well to bolt on parts, and the sound these cars make is pure Bliss.
Also brought drag racing back from the dead . In the early late 80's and 90 . No one was talking doing drag racing . Right after these cars came one . The racing seeen exploded.
Agreed the 5.0 with flowmasters is EASILY the best exhaust sound in ANY american muscle car. Fight me LOL. honestly I cannot think of a better exhaust tone.
@@cptnsolo77 not gonna fight you but I recently bought a coupe with flowmasters on it and I will definitely be changing it soon. Not a fan. My hatch on the other hand has a custom exhaust with some bullet magnaflow racing mufflers. Have had that setup for years and will probably never take it off.
cptnsolo77 the 4.6 New edge gt is actually considered one of the best sounding engines ford has produced. Mine has bbk Off-road X-pipe, bbk shorty headers and flowmaster 40 mufflers. It’s a symphony! The fox body definitely sounds amazing also, my buddy has one. ✌🏻
@@cptnsolo77 A 5.0 with the stock H pipe and the mufflers deleted is also amazing. It's nice and quiet until you stomp on it, and then it's a crack of thunder. Sure, the cats are restrictive as hell, but it just sounds so damn good I'm never changing it.

I was guessing 190 to 200 before i seen the results. What it made was fairly impressive, even with the few mods. Considering the car has almost 200,000 miles. Long live the foxbody.
T-5 cars generally would make 190 stock to the tires...this thing impressed me though with as many miles as it has.
The fuel injection on these is pretty good ripped apart a 230k motor to still find factory hone marks in the cylinder walls. It was a well taken care of car but still

That's not bad numbers at all for a 30 year old, mostly stock, 173k Fox. Impressive.
Yea right. Its great honestly. Rated 225hp and 300 torque new. Pushed more hp to the wheels then rated at the crank. Love my 92.
Damn...must admit I was surprised by the numbers. This reminds me of my 89' 25th Anniversary LX Hatch...same color as shown here. Love that car. This one here is well taken care of..
Fox body mustang's will always be my favorite. I've owned several of these and as any foxbody owner can tell you there is a special one of a kind sound the doors make when you open them. Its like this super satisfying click of metal.
Who would of thought my 89 GT made that much power, no wonder it was so fast in the day! Should of kept it as well as my 89 hatch, 94 GT conv. and now my fastest 08 Shelby GT500 conv.
That's pretty strong for a lightly modded Foxbody.my 89 with similar mods made 225 horsepower and 280 torque , at the wheels on a Dynojet
I remember me and my friend raced my at the time stock Z31 turbo vs his at the time stock Gt fox and we were neck to neck til I started pulling on him after 80mph, fast forward to a few months ago, were still almost stock, he has headers, gears, and straight pipes and I'm running a dumped exhaust, and stock turbo on 12psi on my boost controller (stock was 6psi on the 85 I have) and he started pulling ME after 95 mph, we raced til around 125mph and he was ahead of me by half a car. Both Impressive cars with little to nothing done. My car made 205whp and 265tq with just dumped exhaust and boost controller. Not sure what he makes on his but I'm sure its about what this one was.
Had an 88 LX myself. One of my favorites up there with my s197 coyote mustang. Crazy how far we have come. I own a 2020 Honda Civic Si now, it makes similar power and with a tune about 240whp/290 TQ while getting 40mpg.

They did dyno a near stock new edge gt recently. It actually put down less power then this 5.0 with about the same miles. Real shame
@@racequad9 should of looked a little harder, thanks for the reply. I agree its sad that a decade newer and its still much slower. The 5.0 combined with its lighter weight was just a torque monster, 2vs just feel like dogs with the extra wieght, and the stock gearing. They wanna go fast but they just run out of steam. Still sounds good tho.
@@hunter415 The 2v are indeed faster. Stock ones make around as much as this fox or more. Stock fox body's run low 14s high 13s if you're lucky. New edge are the same way low 14s high 13s. Good luck getting out of the 12s with heads and a cam on a fox. Heads and cams on a 2v have gotten people into the 10s. A cammed 2v with some weight reduction, gears, and a tire went 11s.

What a difference painting the mirrors the body color. My LX has all body colored mirrors doorhandles bumper strip and of course the pillar around the window because it’s a convertible. But it makes all the difference in the world it’s such a subtle thing you have to point it out to people and then they realize how cool it is he should do the doorhandles to and white

Like the video. Can you do a power comparison between a 1993 and 1987-92 sometime? I've owned a 1991 and have a 1993 notch back now and do not believe it has less HP. I know all about the different pistons and stories about Ford changing the way they measure the HP. Can you settle this once and for all? Thanks, Steve
The pushrod 5.0 was no joke back in the day. Compared to the Chevy 305, it was a BEAST.
That's pretty damn good! I just rebuilt the engine in my '97 cobra and outside of catted xpipe and flowmasters, it's stock. I wonder what it makes also but dynos are so expensive! I do like these stock dyno videos though. Do a video on stock 96-98 mustang cobras!Thanks LMR!

My 89 LSC with same mods and underdrive pullies is surprisingly fast.

I don't care what anyone says. Nothing sounds as good as a Foxbody with exhaust.
89 5.0 lx sedan with 5 spd. Exhaust, ignition and a 150hp nitrous kit. Yes, I crashed it.

Very healthy number for a peak under 5k rpm. It doesnt drop off hard either. I bet that thing would be AMAZINGLY fun to drive
I'd like to see that same setup except with a cobra intake or a slight intake upgrade of some kind to flatten out the top end even more

Could you guys put together a video doing back to back dyno tests of an aftermarket h pipe and x pipe. As much as the two are compared I've never seen any videos that actually show real hp and tq differences.

I agree but it isnt stock it has a maf, a filter, full exhaust and an aluminum driveshaft. None of those do a whole lot themselves but together they add up to what you see in this video. In those days a high flow cone filter actually would pick up 5-8 whp nowadays it dont do anything to most cars ecapecially with a stock tune.

That's close to what my coupe made with similiar mods. It made 236 rwhp 318 tq.
had a 89 5.0 State Trooper car with headers, exhaust and good tune up, pro 5.0 shifter, would lay waste to anything

I can't believe how far we've come. Pathetic numbers by today's standards. Heck even back then. Japan was producing 2 rwd imports at the time that made over 300whp. I really think that made us step up our game in the US. Now we have LS, LT, Coyote, Voodoo, and Modern Hemi engines that produce crazy power from the factory.
This car made more power than the 93 cobra and the 2004 GT you guys tested not too long ago. Strange

That dyno is very generous if thats a stock engine. 290 ft/lbs of torque yeah ok
@@RadDadisRad yea they usually make 180-190 but this car isnt stock. It has maf, high flow filter, full exhaust and an aluminum driveshaft i could easily see the car picking up 30-35 whp with those mods. Nothing new here go read some old mm&ff mags and learn something lol

Honestly these later year Fox Mustangs are well documented on the dyno at 190+ HP to the tires. So it's a little more interesting to see what those mods do to the rear wheel horsepower numbers
Would hardly consider the body kit and seat update as part of the upgrades. Clearly for appeal or comfort rather than performance. He's got less than $700 in performance parts that affect the Dyno run...

It looks so good and sounds great but it will get beat by soooooo many new stock FWD 4 cylinder vehicles.... Avoid stoplight racing.
stock v6's and turbo 4's. that make 300ish hp at the crank. probably.

Theyre the same thing. Forget the rating fox and sn both dyno about 180-190 to the tires bone stock with a 5 speed. Torque should be around 260-270 on a dynojet. Numbers will be less on a mustang dyno.
