Hi John, I have started a new UA-cam channel dedicated to brilliant cars, edited and filmed all by me This is John from the Jaguar Breakfast Club (Steve’s son with the red svr) Keep up the great content and keep the cat clean 🙂
Thank you for your video .I'm thinking about putting one on but I was wondering about road tax as that's registered with you current number plate many thanks garry
Great video! Might be a silly question but do the registration plates get sent to you? Or do you need to get them made somewhere? If so how long does this take? :)
Hiya thanks for watching and commenting! Not a silly question at all, but no you don't get the plates sent to you, you have to purchase them yourself either using your new V5 document automatically sent by the DVLA when the new registration is registered, or by downloading the certificate of entitlement (I think thats covered in this video?) take either to a decent auto parts store and they should be able to make them while you wait.
Nice video and cool that you showed a process where you bought a plate yourself too! Interesting why you chose JB51 rather than JB05 or JB06 but a great personalised plate choice
Not exactly sure, it says as soon as possible, but would have thought there will be a couple of weeks overlap to allow for the making of the new plates
So the personalised number must be available then you can buy? For example I want something like GH 007 or G007 When searching I can’t seem to find them and there isn’t an option to buy it
Your best bet for a specific plate is to contact the DVLA, they may be able to release it for sale if not assigned to a vehicle, even if not currently shown for sale
I actually had mine fitted to, I also have a Jaguar XK, its been 2 days since I have had the permission, I noticed they have changed the MOT details to this plate but the Road Tax still has the old Reg, will that change too?
One question, I would like to buy a number plate but it seems to be a normal non-personalised registered number plate used on someones car which is still running to this date. Is it possible for me buying this number plate from them?
I am a Little Bit surprised to See, that in the UK you must pay 399 GBP for a personalized number plate. In Germany you can get it for 12,80 €. The only thing is, that you need to stick at your hometown initials. Such as „VAI“ for Vaihingen, and then you can choose XK50... and that‘s it. My number plate therefor is: VAI - XK 50. for My Jaguar XK5.0 convertible
How much grace time do you have between receiving your new V5C and getting the new plates installed? Eg if getting a garage to make and install them, you’ll need to drive to the garage with your “old plates” even though DVLA have swapped to the new on their system?
Great video. One question from me, I've just purchased the car and the V5 is not in my name yet. Do I wait for the V5 to come in my name before I am able to transfer my plates? I've purchased the car and new plates just yesterday. Thanks
Thanks for watching. Good question to which I am not entirely sure. You may be able to if you have kept the new keepers part of the old V5 form. Id be interested in hearing if you do manage it
is the Nation badge (e.g UK badge and letters) compulsory or compulsory if you travel out of UK. I mean i dont intend to add Nation badge to my custom plates
Visit the DVLA website and follow the link for removing a private registration. The original will be automatically assigned and the private reg put on retention for later use, or you can assign it to another vehicle
What’s the process for putting your old plates back on? Is it possible to swap in between the old and new every few months? Great video very informative 👍🏼
Thanks for watching and commenting. I've not done it that way around before but I think you can put the personalised registration on retention (Meaning you keep the rights to the reg number) , and your original reg is reassigned back to the vehicle by the DVLA. You'd probably have to pay an assignment fee everytime you swapped so wouldn't be advisable
One more question. So why is it not available to completely buy your own words no matter the cost. I.e why can't I have my name N N A M D I or N N 4 M D I if I am ready to pay for it, instead of only available permutations and formats
Ultimately and sadly life is about getting what you need. In 2001 a space Odyssey a group of apes realised that by hitting the other group with bones you could get more than what you need. Life has since taken this path and you either pick up the bone or become bitter that you didn’t.
There is a cross over period, not entirely sure how long though, They say to put on the new plates as soon as possible, but they obviously allow time for the V5 to arrive and you getting new plates made. I cheated a bit and had standard looking 'show plates' made on ebay. So I had them ready to go on. I'd estimate there will be a few weeks where you can still drive on the old plates
@@MovesLikeJaguar how does that work with the insurance company though? Reason I asked is because I planned on switching them over online, driving to get them made and fitted next day then when I get home call the insurance.
I’m trying to by a plate, however it keeps saying “service unavailable”. When I refresh it says someone else is viewing my plate. Any tips or advice would be appreciated!
If you choose not to retain the number, the original is taken back by the DVLA and usually reserved to reinstate on the vehicle if or when the vehicle is sold in the future
The DVLA do not issue the actual plate. You have to visit an auto parts store with either the new V5 or the downloadable certificate shown in the video, who can then make you the plate hopefully while you wait
@@MovesLikeJaguar yeah that’s reasonable, thanks for the reply again. And to be perfectly honest I’m probably going to order mine online. The gov website postcode search is terrible

The original number goes back to the DVLA but is usually reserved to go back on the car in the future

One question, I would like to buy a number plate but it seems to be a normal non-personalised registered number plate used on someones car which is still running to this date. Is it possible for me buying this number plate from them?

How do people get super specific ones, I've seen plates which match no style shown here, where do people get those?
With a lot of luck and in most cases, money! Check out the DVLA site for the options available. Fewer letters and numbers command higher prices
Sir i can use space between characters but how yours have a space after 4th?
That's the legal requirement in the UK for that particular layout
Perfect, just the job! Thanks very much!

Great video! After purchasing the registration when you receive the V750, do you have to pay another fee when assigning it to your vehicle?
Thanks for watching! No further or hidden fees if you buy from the DVLA. The price you pay includes all transfer fees to assign it to your vehicle
@@MovesLikeJaguar Thank you, would that mean the only other fees so on is if you transfer it to another vehicle?
Simon Alvey yeh if the plate is already on a car then you’ll have to pay £80 to transfer to another car or to put the plate on retention
