I love the simplicity of plate holders here in Germany, that have multiple combinations of holes to match the holes in each and every cars bodywork. And then you just put the plate in the holder. Job would be done in one minute each end of the car. No drilling, no scraping, no taping.
You can’t use a spirit level. The car will be on a un-level surface roads are cambered and drive ways could be miles out too so a level will only make plate look wonky
Super useful, as I’m about to do the same on my Hyundai Kona - which I got before green plates came in, so I bought and am fitting some subsequently. Well done for going EV :)
Randomly came across this video just now while looking for videos about UK number plates but some great advice in this video, I did the same thing with hairdryer after reading it a lot scrolling through pistonheads forum posts saying similar method with sticky pads. I used 3M VHB tape and it held on for over a year but then my car ended up in a rear end accident. It stayed on even through that though!
I have bought my custom designed plates, but I am sourcing the green caps. I only need two for my 2 ev's. Where can I purchase them please? I also need screws and sticky pads for four plates. Thanks for your excellent video. Hair dryer will be essential.
Hi Really like your video. I have a Renault Zoe and the number plates are riveted on. Would really like to change number plates to the new green style. Any chance you could do a video showing how to remove the rivets? I saw your video about removing old bits of rivets from a Zoe which was excellent as usual. Thanks Bruce
Is there any valid/legal reason for adding GREEN to a number plate now? Or is it simply a some kind of "statement?" Electric vehicles: Motability = 650,000 customers. After 2030, where will the majority of these people charge their mandatory vehicles???
Some of that was useful but I nearly missed the grotesque irony of heavily promoting the “green” message by replacing perfectly good numberplates and throwing away the old ones.
So many things wrong here starting with wrong pronunciation, and way too long a video.Has he left the peel off backing on back of plate? Spirit level??!!!!!!! Use WD40 or petrol to soak that residue off the back!!!! Razor blades and metal scrapers!!!! Let's see you drilling the metal bodywork! Cheating using the pads 1st before screwing! And drilling holding the plate!! You must do this on a work top!!! 🥺
Clearly not watched it properly as I didn't use a razor blade or metal scrapers and said no NOT use those. The scraper was plastic. The plates did not have a backing on them. The solvent I used was Autosmart Tardis, but of course your average home owner is not going to have this or want to buy it as its expensive stuff. As for drilling the metal bodywork..I'd never do that - that's the point of showing the alternative way of fixing. Anyway, thanks for watching!

That was really useful, thought it was just a couple of screws but sticking it as well is a great idea. Thanks Matt. 👍
WD40 helps to dissolve the adhesive, it also helps to use some iso alcohol cleaning spray on the surface to get good adhesion with the car!

I prefer the original registration plate with the EU identifier to the green one, great video, very informative!.
Brexit ;)
The green stripe is optional, and just for EVs.

He was replacing registration plates which are in a very good and perfectly legal condition with green plates. Not green at all.

1:59 i like the way you said Peugeot lol
😅 so now not just Skoda and Hyundai 👍
NEVER drill plates by just holding them in your hand! Put them on a bench and clamp them. That's an accident waiting to happen!
Got the opportunity to change my plates today. Just happens to be the coldest day of the year at minus 3... damn !! Time to get the heat gun out
Yes, not good weather for working with anything that's sticky. A heat gun or hair dryer makes all the difference, regardless of the weather/temp.
Thanks, Matt. Very helpful (and slightly scaring)!
Thanks good video. Keep the green plates going
Let's not🤣🤣🤣
Just changed my plates, great, helpful video, I really need to emphasize that the hair dryer is imperative.
Thanks again
Good vid , you've fitted them before 😁
What happened to the "GB" on the green plate?
Optional.
@@GoGreenAutos Thanks! Can you also add the UK flag now that the UK is out of EU?
@@limonhossain7092 Yes from this month. See www.eveningexpress.co.uk/motoring/eu-flag-removed-from-uk-driving-licences-and-number-plate-designs/
@@GoGreenAutos thank you!!

Well done Stephen 🤣
Good video very helpful
Very useful thanks
I spray with Mr Sheen...it reacts and softens them
brilliant job
I wouldn't recommend using a spirit level to position the plate.
A car isn't always perfectly horizontal.
sorry to be a pain....how long would you say is the whole process of changing 2 plates on a ze van, just so I allocate enough time.
It very much depends how the original ones are fixed and how thorough you want to be. It could take 4 mins, but then it could take 45 mins.
@@GoGreenAutos thank you
Brilliantly helpful - so clear with so much good advice - thank you !
Unironically pronouncing it pew-joe. I like it.
I’m sorry, how did you pronounce Peugeot?
He pronounced it wrong🤣🤣🤣

Drill them out with a HSS bit. Just drill the centre of the rivet out and it will fall apart.
@@GoGreenAutos super thanks. Plates arrive tomorrow so good to go. Green plates rule. I think I will go for stick on. 👍💚
Thanks 🎉

Theres nothing green about replacing perfectly good plates with new ones.

Screw holes in the top corners look best to me... 15mm in from the edges.
The Mercedes way
"So, getting rid of these. This. Is. A. Pain."
If it wasn't for this video, i would have totally struggled
Glad it helped
Nice one very informative
Thanks for that, very helpful indeed.
Wasn't that good John🤣🤣🤣
Use WD-40 to get rid of the sticky tape
'Peeuwjo'
😅😅👍
Another good video would be to show how to change a 12v battery on a ev 👍
There are on this channel.
Petrol will take that sticky stuff off in a heartbeat

whys it green

To promote another false crisis
Cosit lectric.
So you promote environmentally friendly vehicles and waste plastic unnecessarily just for your branding. There was nothing wrong with those plates.
Seriously, 19 mins long. Get to the point.
