    I use pressed plates for my VW it gives it a more German look plus the letters and number really stand out and are a lot more clear than the regular plastic ones so I say I made the correct choice

      Plastic plates are horrible actually. They are fragile.

    One can have any opinion about Brexit but it made these UK plates look more clean 😀 here in Finland we have only one government issued option and it is the traditional aluminium pressed one which I think is still the best looking because it’s not shiny and has that 3D effect. Here you can pay extra and you can get it without the EU blue thingy but you almost never see those on new cars.

      Mad you have to pay extra to remove it!

    There are many , many different styles of plate to choose from here in Sydney NSW Australia. All are only available via the RMS (our equiv to your DVLA) .... no other entity can produce / print plates other than the RMS. Makes the whole “whether it’s legal” thing redundant

      I think that is a much cleaner way of operating to be honest... but we get 4D plates 🤪😅

    I'm yet to hear a decent reason as to why UK plates are different colours front and rear.
    "So that drivers can tell which is the front or back of a vehicle" is a pretty scary explanation from the DVLA if true.
    If one can't tell the front from the back of a car they probably shouldn't be anywhere near a road.
    Where I live cars have big red lights on the back and white lights on the front. It's a bit of a giveaway.
    How do the Brits know which way a motorbike is going?

      You've a focus group back in 1970 to thank!
      It was already decided that front and rear plates should be reflective. UK number plates incorporate a highly reflective layer using a material also used in hi-viz clothing and traffic cones. This not only makes the characters easier to read at night but helps to mark the front and rear of the vehicle for safety.
      The original idea was to have black on red reflective plates for the rear to match the red rear lights.
      It was felt that a rear white reflective plate would be too bright and maybe dazzle following drivers with head lights on.
      Red was then discounted as the contrast between the characters and background was deemed insufficient.
      Furthermore at the time Southern Irish rear plates were black on a red background. So yellow was decided upon as a compromise.

    The gel ones look a bit like the old style pressed out plates so I agree with your choice! Again the blue wrap looks amazing on the Yaris... Are you using it as a daily driver? What sort of miles do you do on an average day and are you happy with the comfort overall? Sorry for all the questions 😅 feel free to ignore me lol

  • @tvnostalgia7477

    I understand the excess backing plate can be trimmed down quite a lot so the plates aren’t so wide. Might look better on the Yaris.

    • @JBCTR
      @JBCTR  3 роки тому +1

      Yup, they can. The Yaris has holes in the front bumper though, so you need the plate to cover them :(

    On the CEUK site, plates have normal font for their logo, but I prefer the CEUK logo you have on your plates. How do they come? Website pictures are a bit confusing.

    • @JBCTR
      @JBCTR  3 роки тому

      I would imagine they come as they were delivered to me :) May be worth a message to CEUK to confirm.

    The plates on motorcycles are crazy big....44ton truck rear plate size....until I found I could legally get a very neat small plate.....
    But I had to buy a new reg number.....has to be a 5 or 6 digit number....my bike is a 2020 Triumph T100....so had a 7 digit plate....horrible.
    I got a 5 digit plate....stating H3 thing thats a 1990 reg I think....only one company in the country making suitable plates....supply a card explaining to any copper that may stop you explaining the size....almost all should know but maybe the odd one.
    There is no minimum size for plates....its all down to digit size spacing and boarder size.
    My plate has the suppliers name post code and the spec number embossed.
    Looks great and not that expensive.birthday presi from my wife.
    Nick in Cheshire.

    Interesting, I'm intrigued about the legalities with shorter framed numberplates - I'm considering to get one for my Mazda MX-5 because at the moment, the current numberplate I have takes up a lot of space on that relatively small car! Keep up the great work JB CTR 👍

    • @JBCTR
      @JBCTR  3 роки тому +2

      Pretty sure the shorter framed number plates are legal. There is a minimum required for spacing around letters so provided they aren’t shorter than that, you are good. I’m not sure on specific measurements but worth a google 👍🏼

    Compared to America, UK number plates are not very adaptable personally speaking.
    The current style is boring ...it's needs a fresh and new approach to it's style and needs more characters like the USA or just have numbers like Qatar is far better than stupid letters.
    The UK is so Draconian in everything it does, a good start would be to Scrap the useless DVLA which is unfit for purpose, after all these years this lot cannot ever come up with anything that actually helps the motorist whatsoever!!!
    All they punch out is doom and gloom with obstacles after obstacles is their solution to everything...
    How they discriminate retired civilians is shocking yet they allow maniacs continue to do what they like...
    In all my life I've never seen so much deliberate discrimination especially the 3 year driving licence renewal which for me is terrible because iam 72 looking like 50 I just don't age and nobody ever believes me when I tell them my age...and more importantly I still ride fast cars and I ride a V4 Ducati Streetfighter... So what TF is going on DVLA your rules are hugely duscrimatory and biased!!!
    And my car well yes that fast too I utterly love my retirement doing what I love...
    The 3'year DL should be 5 years .. DVLA get your act together for god's sake this is like being banned from driving without actually committing and traffic offence ever!!
    This is a travesty if freedom and my rights to drive ..
    Get your act together and get this increased to 5 years.
    I've seen so many migrants driving dangerously in UK roads is now at pandemic level.. I guess these people do actually have a DLto drive .. it's always the easy target s from the DVLA.
    I'm sick to death of the DVLA duscrimatory behaviour towards ALL Young active retired ..it's time this is stopped!!!!!!

    The 4D plates are not classed as legal.. Whilst the number plate itself has been tested to certain criteria, the acrylic numbers themselves have not and as such makes then illegal..
