not sir Lewis Hamilton in the thumbnail
My thoughts exactly!!
Girl my stomach dropped when I saw it lol
“ I apologize chuck.”😂
His critique was positive... others were compared to him and found wanting
After waiting all this time, im glad that he was nice lol. I was so scared for our babygirl
Lewis Hamilton’s outfit >>> I love that he gave real depth to it
Yes, I agree!
Agreed! I like that it was a thoughtful and specific interpretation of the theme rather than throwing ALL the ideas into one look.
Hamilton is big into fashion, so I expected him to deliver 😍
@@marloeslovestea I love that and I love him
@@pearlngozi2818 totaly agree !
Taika and Rita went as two pieces of furniture off marketplace.
Taika as the big,old brown vinyl couch and Rita as the beaded curtain that separates the kitchen from the lounge room.
Love it 😂😂😂😂 it was painful to look at her dress 🤦🏻♀️ and his leather outfit - for some reason I feel like his skin wouldn’t be able to breathe and he would sweat so much in it 😥
@@karina.kagramanova Haaaaa, totally! He would’ve been sweating puddles into his matching brown loafers
I would actually love to see Haute Le Mode react to some of Lewis Hamilton’s outfits in general. His F1 paddock fashion in particular is always so cool compared to other drivers.
Same! Would love to see this video.
I agree. He is so cool, makes the paddock his runway every time.
Maybe not the rest of the grid because that could be brutal but I am all for a reaction of Lewis especially during a GP weekend.
My favorite part of this Met Gala was just hearing Jeff Goldbloom talking so passionately about the theme and short story. It was so cute.
That was so wholesome and charming to see 🤧
I believe the flowers embroidered on his jacket are native to Wales or can be found in Wales. Also the thorn necklace is supposed to represent the chains of slavery since John was brought over in slavery. John was also one of the first Africa Welshman to have his life well documented. There were Africans in Wales before him, but his name and life are the first fully documented.
Ed Sheeran looks like the theme is "Midwest Prom 1973"...so edgy !
He’s dressed like Carrie White’s prom date in the 1970s movie
I don't think any of Stella McCartney crowd did the theme....they were all there promoting sustainable glitter or whatever.
That's actually IN theme! A boring interpretation of the theme, sure, but better than 2/3rd of them.
EXACTLY!! I wore a mint green tux in 1978!!!
“Gays holding hands”
Just send me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
giving nothing tbh loolololol
When even the gays fail at MESS gala? It’s bad. 😵💫🫠
For a second I thought that they were like twins because they looked too similar or tried to look alike and then he says “gays holding hands”. I think that one of them must shave.😅
😂😂😂the tittle
I loved Iris Law's butterfly dress! I think it fit the theme well, and it was one of my favorite interpretations. Of course, butterflies are found in a garden, but they're also related to time with their metamorphosis, short lifespans, and their delicate form. Changing and fragile, just like time, and one could argue, the Met exhibit Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. I think a butterfly is a beautiful interpretation of a sleeping beauty (a caterpillar sleeping in its cocoon, awakening as a beautiful delicate butterfly) that also fit in with Gardens of Time.
Agreed, this was one of my favorite dresses of the night
It was the only dress that counted... I think strategically law put it on someone the press don't know to make a point about being on a well dressed has nothing to how well dressed one is .
Definitely! I would have absolutely given her credit for being on theme.
it reminds me of the ice skating dresses
Reminds me of Zendaya's dress in the Greatest Showman premiere
I’ve been watching Luke for so long that I immediately said “Rita Ora why are you here?!🤦🏾♀️” When she arrived on the carpet🤭
I actually said that when I was scrolling through all the pictures on the Harper Bazaar website before Luke posted the first Met Gala video. 😂
😅😅😅😂😂😂❤
It has entered my daily lexicon and nobody understands 😅
😂🤣😂🤣
i did too lmaoooooo
“It’s inspired by my Grandma - SHE’S DEAD!” 💀. Never change I love the honesty we get on this channel.
I'm not a big fashion person but i like watching your videos because you are hilarious roasting these people AND I've learned some things about fashion and it's history from you and I LOVE history about anything!
If you’re into learning about how fashion was historically made and used, I highly recommend Bernadette Banner’s UA-cam channel. She is a 16-18th century fashion historian who makes clothing, skincare, and haircare using 16-18th c ingredients and methods. I also recommend Erin Parsons as well. She delves into ancient cosmetics and recently made a video on Elizabethan lead makeup that was very interesting.
To Brooklyn Beckham: Dressing like your daddy will not make you Daddy™️, even if he is Daddy™️.
you are the real daddy for saying this
How is he dressing like his father ? He's wearing a suit like most men sometimes wear suits.
@@3l3llala13 Luke said in the video that Brooklyn explained that the inspiration for this look was a look his father once wore (I don’t know if it was to a Met Gala or a different event/carpet).
the nepo kids with no talent/creativity can only rely on nostalgia haha
He looks a lot like his dad
I think it could’ve been super easy and fun to see if any designers had archival pieces that just weren’t preserved well and were past the point of saving and just doing a ‘last hurrah’ for that piece with good styling
Yay I'm so glad you explained and liked the story behind Lewis Hamilton's look!! It might not have been incredibly extravagant but it truly had a lot of depth!
Not extravagant but I'd kill for that coat! ❤
@LailaVieiraMartins straight up, I think I'd commit crimes for that coat and my city doesn't even have winter
I have to say Jaime Doornan (sp?) I thought was actually on theme of the exhibit. The beading gave me a pilling texture in the spirit of the natural occurrence of wear and tear with your knits or soft dressing. I thought it was subtle at first glance but actually quite existential and very smart.
Are they allergic to FASHION?
i've been waiting over a week for "Rita Ora why are you here" and Luke delivered
Can you please explain? I don't get it 😢
Wait! You didn't know Charlie Hunnam who was in the original Queer as Folk?!? The og tv twink?!? Yes, most ppl know him from Sons of Anarchy but his history starts with breaking the mold for LGBT television. I actually thought Charlie tried more than a lot of guys. The pearls were a nice touch.
I loved Alex Newell's dress, kinda wish it was in a different color.
Donald Glover looked like Steve Harvey and I can't unsee it!
I think Lewis Hamilton has one of the best stories. Black stories especially from the UK during slavery are often overlooked. I literally had a argument once in college about Black ppl being in the UK before the 60s. Literally had to bring a book called Black London (about pre 1800s Black life there). Finding the story of a Black child who was a slave becoming a prominent gardener to me hits the theme more then others could ever!
Lewis Hamilton killed it and looked great. Fantastic mix of classic men’s tailoring and being on theme in a unique, thoughtful way.
Lewis won the Met Gala for me this year. He put so much thought into the outfit and absolutely stunned with the backstory - just imagine if everyone put so much thought into it. Another nice fact is that recently a new rose was discovered in the U.K., and they named it after John Ystumllyn.
Just a nitpick, the rose wasn't 'discovered' as if it was always around, it was bred by a nursery that specialises in breeding new rose cultivars
@@majorclanger8857 yes you're right, thank you for correcting it :)
Luke is giving Paddington Bear chic (jk it's a cute coat).
Host roast
If I had gone to this event I might have chosen to be very ghostlike, as if I’d been buried in my favorite gown, which was fraying, the embroidery coming undone, missing sequins, etc. Died too young. It wouldn’t be creepy tho. More ethereal. Very pale face but perfect makeup. Maybe scattered with the roses thrown on me?
Mrs. Havisham - yeah - I can see that
I get that! Ethereal and ghostly!!❤
Honestly? A vibe
I know you would’ve loved Chloe Sevingy’s outfit more if she had Pat McGrath makeup
I enjoy your commentary so much. I always smile, laugh and learn.
I think Jeff Goldblum dressed as Count Axel from the short story "Garden of Time" with white gloves and everything.
You know Anna should insist that all attendees hand in their assignment designs to YOU, before they are made and attend. And then you could post your critiques giving out marks. Loving your analysis of their assignments this year : Also I dont know if you have ever seen King Charles when he was Prince of Wales he often wore clothes so much that they had patches on them, small ones to disguise the wear and tear. Its an Aristo English thing apparently -) x
Weirdly, I get a vague connection to the theme from ed sheeran. He's trying to reawaken the powder blue prom tux 🤣🤣
If he added some ruffles to the shirt and a tattered boutonnière, he would be on theme AND dressed like my senior prom date 😅
Hey, Luke! I actually grow orchids! There are thousands of pink orchid species but vanilla orchids are white, yellow, or pale green.
im simply choosing to tune out when you talk about mike faist
turnip away from the screen when it comes on 😫
The way you said, “I do hate this” was joyous 😂
21:03 on the Jeff Goldblum outfit those brooches are like military medals and the coar Isa bit like an army great-coat. Remember that encroaching army from "The Garden of Time" story? The garden, and time aren't the only available reference here; there is also the opposing force which is being held back but finally conquers.
Loved Jeff Goldblum, especially hearing him speak about why he chose his outfit. The guy is brilliant, btw 🙌🏼
Luke, your Met Gala roasts are my favourite part of the Met Gala. I don't even bother to watch the red carpet because I know you'll cover it for me and we'll agree 9/10. You also the only person I'm aware of besides me who gets so disappointed with people's outfits at the gala.
“Oh look gays holding hands” 🤣😂 Love you, Luke!
Donald Glover's look was "homage to Steve Harvey"!?
Steve Harvey INSTANTLY came to mind 😂
I can't unsee it
Bernie Mac (RIP), Steve Harvey, Michael Jordan etc. 😎
There aren't necessarily 'pink' vanilla orchids, but there are red vanilla orchids that are actually pink.
True, however if they are talking about one specific "vainilla" (that we all know and love in pastries) that grows in Veracruz... yeah, it's flower is not pink...
For reasons I do not fully understand, in a section of my southern California garden, many flowers that are supposed to be white end up a light pink or white with pink splotches. Something to do with soil acidity. While orchids are rarely just planted in the backyard, this is what comes to mind.
Flowers fade to different colors as they age and I think that’s what we’re seeing in her dress. The under layers are creamier and it gradually gets more pinkish as the petals get larger and more exposed. I think it’s well done
Lewis Hamilton doesn't deserve to be roasted in the thumbnail:
he was styled by LAW ROACH.
Watch the video my friend... Lewis was the high bar others were measured against
He was styled by Eric Mcneal
Lewis got Best Dressed on his list what you mean? Tell me you didn't watch the video without telling me you didn't watch the video. 🤣
@ladymissgd
Hahaha my internet was slow and I typed the comment prematurely, sorry! lol
@amandadublin3129
Hahaha my internet was slow and I didn't have a chance to watch the whole video! lol
Hubby asked what I was watching - my response was "gay fashion guy ripping boring Hollywood types to pieces" "sounds fun" LMAO I love watching you Luke.
Shakira really missed the opportunity to reference the Garden of Eden look from her Oral Fixation Vol. 2 album. 😭
I'm mexican and i confirm the vanilla orquide is KIND of pink but it's mostly yellow... so the white layers could have been on a baby pink or something... but i loved to see Eiza actually following the theme with a nice dress :)
Oh yeah I loved her dress and she did better than 99% of people out there
i'd say eiza gonzalez's dress does look like orchids that are native from mexico, just not the ones that vanilla comes from lol i love the look so its close enough for me
"I don’t know him... But looking at his outfit, I really don’t want to" 😂 I just love Luke
I agree about Eiza Gonzales' dress. There was a missed opportunity to use a really pretty shade of pale green, which is the colour of most vanilla orchids. This dress could have been saved with "interpretation" if they had taken a flame and singed the edges and maybe burned some strategically placed holes/tears in the fabric to emulate the markings, stripes and spots that are sometimes found on those flowers.
Lewis Hamilton, Eric Mcneal, and Burberry did their homework.
I knew Nicholas Galitzine would be part of your "boring list" and you didn't disappoint. I mean he looks great but yeah...Totally deserved! 😅
ikr as soon as he announced he was doing this video I thought uh oh nick is in trouble 😂
Yeah "Stop relying on Beauty"
He doesn't even look that good tbh. He has a long torso and short legs so he has the tendency to look boxy
when he was asked to serve, he thought to serve tables let’s be real now 💀
Love him on rwrb, sure Leave the acting to Nicholas galitzine, but we also should've hyped Taylor zachar Perez more to be on this appearances cause I know he wouldn't disappoint us like this
I really liked Hamilton's fit and story behind it, the man is always thoughtful and humble about everything
My man looked like ROYALTY. Sir Lewis gets 10/10 from me!
Keep being mean Luke! Honestly… WHOMPST?!!? Whompst else could and SHOULD be reading these slouches at THEE Met Gala??? It’s only you!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Don’t even respond or address the haters & any rumors they conjure. You’re a gawdamn fashion ANGEL… AN ANGEL!!!!
🌈🪬
You have really opened up a world of fashion for me! I have been binge watching you for weeks. You are snarky, smart assy and fucking hilarious. I’m living for it! This sesh had me cackling in acquiescence!! Thank you for the education, the new go to smart ass comments and total education of the fashion world. Color me obsessed!❤
I also find it funny that Miss-mam Anna Wintour thinks an all-black look is the blandest ever, but most men that come to this event are all in black, same shape, same same, same same. Lewis was intentional with his look and it showed!! But a black tux... it's the same from every other event! Show us shape, show us story, show us COLOUR! xxo
show us fashiooooon. the men are almost always not serving like wtf is that. a waste of time tbh 💀
Jamie Dornan: White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. The Rabbit in the first chapter is the allegory of Time.
It was a very interesting outfit! Wonder if the stylist was thinking about the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland.
needs bunny ears 🤭
I immediately thought aristocracy garden party, so I do think he's on theme
I the first thing I thought when I saw Kieran Caulkin’s suit was that it looks like it has paint stains/other stains all over it, which kind of does fit the theme. I think it definitely fits the exhibit theme, for sure!
These videos are getting me thru a double whammy of misery today (dealing with one of those cataclysmic-level stress times and then I caught a cold and am stuck in bed to ruminate with a scratchy throat) so I just wanna say THANK YOU! On top of the education and lovely production and personality of your content, it’s also the perfect thing to just hang out with to have some fun.
Mean to the men!! I’m so here for itttt
Sexism isn't a good look.
Yesssss! It's almost too easy, roast men's fashion more pleeeeeeeease 😂
I love your brutal, knowledgeable, honest commentary.
Ed Sheeran and Chris Hemsworth looked like dumb and dumber. Stella McCartney had awful designs this year. The gala was a mess
I'd rather watch a live chess match than these men !! Boring is an understatement
Okay but like chess is exciting! Although sexism is rampant
@@natnuss98 live chess match? U sure?
@Clara_taylorsversion it is actually 😅 shorter time controls especially!
excuse me one second now please… chess is exciting. watch bullet and blitz matches ❤
Chess can be exciting! 😢
“No no, I’m good.” And “Thank you SO much, for absolutely nothing,” have instantly been copied into my daily Lexicon. Such versatility, while giving SO MUCH SHADE!
You are SO informative! I really appreciate your informative content. I don’t think people understand how much work you do to put all of these videos together. Bravo Luke, I think you rock ❤
So bit depressed at the moment but discovering your channel has been a highlight - thank you the content.
OMG, I've loved this Met series, you get sassier and sassier and I'm totally here for it! You literally made me choke on my wasabi peas when you said, "Charlie Hunnam, don't know him, sorry Chuck" 🤣💀 Figuratively died, almost died for real. Love you!
“And she’s a therapist … I don’t know..”
😂 ..
28:24 Kieran Culkin and Jazz Charton.
I don’t understand why NO ONE did mushrooms! 😅. They’re the very definition of decay!
Loved Lewish Hamilton look and the story behind it. He also referenced New Jack City with his necklace, rings and bracelets. Well thought through. Lewis, Eric McNeal his stylist and Burberry did a good job
"I know I'm being mean but somebody's got to" had me on the floor 😂
I know very little about fashion, and I'm old. I just know what I like. However, I sense real intelligence and knowledge, maybe beyond his years, compared with intuitive understanding of themes, fashion history, and sense of style. Makes me want to watch the next one. This guy has me taking notes, and learning about fashion and fashion history.
5:26 "Go on, give us nothing." Coin the phrase! It's the theme for a lot of the MG attendees.
OMGGG IM SO GLAD YOU DID LEWIS!!! AS A BIG LEWIS FAN, THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT ALL THE DETAILS! IM GLAD U FOUND IT JUST AS INTRIGUING AS I DID!! and yes i agree, most of these fits were terribly bland, but at the end of the day...our fault for having big expectations.
I audibly gasped at Jamie's ensemble. I personally thought "outfit made of sand!?"... so. There's that.
"Anywhere else I will be like..ohh wow... I like your little radish" 🤣🤣 34:44
jeremy is also playing dr. thomas stockmann in an enemy of the people on broadway rn, a play from literally the 1880s! maybe it IS method dressing
I was so incredibly nervous about what you'd say about Jeremy Strong's look but I knew my boi would CLEAR with no issue, that is my king.
A bonus touch on the poppy flower, they bloom for only 10 days, so it also fits in with the theme!
Rachel Zegler's fit is emblematic of the Fountain of Youth while referencing an iconic Marilyn Monroe moment-kind of a quiet jab at Kim K. pretty iconic to me
Best of the 3 Met Gala reviews! And they were good. You give me such pleasure with your informed entertaining work. Appreciate from Australia
I think most designers put their desire to have the celebrities just be mannequins for more mainstream sales ahead of the theme.... that to me is the consistent theme.
I love your reviews. Honest and straight talking and I’m here for it
Your reviews are wonderfully thorough and I know that I will learn something with every "roast". Thank you and keep up the amazing work. Love it❣️
Edd Sheeran... why are you here?
The yellow flower jewellery Lewis wore also references the yellow flower planted in honour of John in wales after he passed.
Wow, this was very interesting. Never thought I'd be into Met Gala and fashion, your delivery certainly was captivating and entertaining :D
I wish someone had wore a curvy, twirly shaped silhouette suit with gold vines and flowers, and like Nina bonina brown, used makeup and prosthetics to make their entire head an entire clock.
My personal opinion was Erykah Badu was serving that Comme Des Carcons dress. Loved it.
They all went in to designers' headquarters and said 'nothing too crazy'
I love the humor and the education. Thanks for providing both.
No Luke, don’t apologize for your criticisms. We’re not here to give out participation trophies. We’re here for the roasts 😌👌🏼
this is the ONLY content i need in my life, thank you
I'd be really interested to hear what Luke would have to say about some of the UA-camrs who did not go to the Met but made dresses on the theme. Are they better than the red carpet looks? I totally agree about most of these. Those men who think that just by turning up up an event wearing a suit is good enough and really they'd rather be watching sport on TV.
Loved and appreciated your acknowledgement of Gaza with the poppy. It was rather beautiful.
YASSSSS I just caught up to your part 1 and 2 & I am here for 3!!!!!!!!
I guess Naomi will be there. She was gorgeous as always, but completely ignored the theme. I was quite disappointed.
The thing about the vanilla flower is that it only exists for like a day. Vanilla growers often hand fertilize these flowers so they can ensure that they will produce. But I agree about the pink - they are not pink.
"I'm an equal opportunist hater" MEEEEEEEEE
You are right, Luke. These boring boy need to step up. The MET Gala is where a guy can express some creativity. School 'em, dude.
The way you used Sir Lewis Hamilton to get me to click lmao
“Congratsss…. Yay.. you did it” lmao 😅the shades is SHADING
I love the additional info in the added graphics.
Eiza Gonzalez dress is beautiful and so delicate, like the orchids are. For me the color is beautiful too.
I really appreciate that Lewis Hamilton did think about and interpret the theme in his own way.
steven yuen's boots tho- so good.
Keep up the good work- you're giving total fashion history + snark and I love it
i truly think someone should stand at the door to the Met and anyone, regardless of talent or fame, wearing a black and white suit with no kind of creativity should be turned away immediately
MY FAVOURITE saying of all time “Rita Ora, what are you doing here?” 😂😂😂
Are they allergic to FASHION??
