Funny you mentioned Napster and the music industry, because if Microsoft manages to make gamepass the main source of games for most people, the videogaming industry will be drastically downsized as a result. Which is exactly what happened to the music industry.

I'm curious to see what happens if it doesn't go through does MS start a bidding war or buy a ton of other companies (because that could be worse in terms of a monopoly) it's kinda obvious why Sony doesn't want to their biggest competitor to own the largest 3rd party publisher especially after MS bought Bethesda for 7.5 billion
It’s honestly kinda hilarious that 3rd largest corporation in the world based on market cap ($1.7 TRILLION btw) is trying to play the humble underdog. If antitrust and antimonopoly laws weren’t a thing, MS could probably acquire Sony, Nintendo, and Valve if they wanted to.
Like the largest company in the industry crying about companies tying up exclusive games, while tying numerous exclusives to theirs. Ff7 remake Ff16 Forespoken Etc Stop crying Jim Ryan 😭
People always say that it is undergoing a heightened level of scrutiny now, even though a phase 2 investigations was expected from the very beginning. Nothing out of the normal has happened yet, outside of Facebook getting blocked recently
It almost definitely will go though. Even if the CMA hypothetically blocked if they don't have the power to prevent it since these are 2 America companies. All they can do is block the sale of Microsoft products in their country (which will never happen since it would basically course the UK to sink considering how important Microsoft is) or fine them, the only regulatory system that can block this specific deal with American ones. But let's say it is blocked hypothetically, I think Microsoft will actually see Sony as a threat finally and go out of their way to crush then by paying most 3rd parties probably including Activision not to put games on PS cos considering cloud and the metaverse these acquisitions seem to be important to Microsofts future not just gaming
As someone who doesn't care for a shit about all this ordeal, it seems that the probability for the acquisition are currently quite low standing the "experts" in matter ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@sulwhale3171 there are some leak, that state MS might bring COD to switch. Especially Warzone mobile which they can optimise enough for switch to handle. This is a pretty inside leak for the community so if don't engage with CLD community enough, you may not know this.
CMA has no power to stop the deal by themselves. If both EU and the FTC have issues with it that would be more significant. But even then Microsoft will cooperate with both of them. Making any concessions that need to happen for approval. PlayStation won't end up packing up as a business because Call Of Duty goes to Game Pass.
It’s honestly fucking hilarious watching play station, a company known for having a shit ton of exclusive games, freak out over Microsoft trying to buy activision
Honestly, I really hope this deal doesn't go through. It would put Microsoft well on the path to having major control over the games industry, and a deal this big would further normalize the industry's consolidation by investors as a whole. And for what, just to get WOW and StarCraft on Game Pass? It's not worth it.
I just think it would be cool if xbox could take some old Activision ips and make new games with them or make available some of their older games that aren't currently.
I will start by saying I went with a Series X this time round over the PS5 just because of the value with Xbox. I think this video is on point. Fact is, for consumers competition is the only thing thats good for the consumer. Thats the only reason I hope MS wins this. I would like to see a company that can stand Toe to Toe with Sony as they have been pulling off very bad consumer practices for too long. I really want to see them taken a peg or two down from where they sit. I want to see MS and Sony battle for money gaming money for the rest of my life time.

@@burst_xofficial2579 complete opposite, Sony on multiple accounts have payed companies to not release games/dlc on other platforms, while Xbox stated they don't want to make it exclusive, and there are no facts that state Xbox would do otherwise then common sense. Going back to the original Xbox I wonder how much money Microsoft has spent on Xbox and after all that they are third place. That's why there is only 3 major players not 4 or 5 like in the 90s. You would need a couple billion just to get to the starting line.
I do think Microsoft gaining Activision would be the lesser evil because that would mean Call of Duty would land on Game pass and as someone who uses game pass and could play a ton of games that i would otherwise could never afford because of it. I think it be best for the consumers or at least the poor ones like me.
Games coming out on game pass is the same as movies coming out on streaming services on launch, its not sustainable in the long term, which is what microsoft and their infinite money is counting on, in the future, after they take over the industry with game pass they can easily jack up prices and make money since all competition will be gone by then and microsoft will be the amazon of gaming
@@youyou01101 They'll do a biut of both: they'll jack up the prices a bit and they'll also lower the quality of the games developed. It will happen what happened to music. When Sony says that putting first party games on a subscription service will harm their quality I believe them.
Quite frankly I have no sympathy for Sony or what they think about it when they are basically embodying the “you took my only food, now I’m gonna starve” scene in spongebob
I don't really want either side to win but there's no situation in which that happens except the deal is blocked and the regulators start going after sony for locking so many games behind their own platform exclusivity deal. In the end, I guess I'm for Microsoft ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Their a terrible company about to launch hardware level DRM globally but hey, they at least have the decency to let me play my games on my existing machine without wasting $600 on a new console that they haven't bothered to properly regulate so scalpers buy up thousands while regular people waste months waiting. Better than sony whose never really done anything for me as a gamer and whose locked so many great games I'd love to play behind a platform I have no interest in beyond those games. Platform exclusives need to die. If that's not happening, I'll settle for the platform that still supports PC.
Whenever I say I wish we just had Steam Deck style simple PCs that play literally every game ever made I get people saying they want everyone to have those games on their preferred console, and I feel they couldn't have missed my point harder.
I'd like to throw EA in there for all of their old franchises and also Ubisoft, not because I think they're valuable but I just want someone else in charge of making their games
@@atypicalpinetree4212 EA has actually been backing off on destroying good projects for no reason. They released a bunch of smaller titles like Lost in Random (super underrated) and Unravel 1 and 2. Like they still do shitty sports games but they're not actively murdering their games anymore.
@TheHoratiosvetlana Yeah but it would still be nice to see a revival of series like Guitar Hero, Skate 3, and honestly too many titles to name. I agree with your point that they aren't actively killing anymore
No, Sony purchased smaller development studios, most of them had relationship with Sony and nearly all of them were single-team devs. Many of them were also brand-new studios that Sony purchased before they even had a game, and then built em up. Sony also started up several of their own. MS on the other hand, is going after entire publishing companies with dozens of multi-plat titles. Entire franchises. They could have went after smaller studios but didnt. Personally, I dont care for wither Bethesda or Activion, but I know people who do. Or at least Bethesda. It does set a dangerous precedent. What else will MS buy? 2k? Embracer? EA? They can dry up the inustry and then extort PS and Nintendo. Similarly, how will Sony respond? SE? Capcom? Team Ninja? Will Nintendo buy Sega? Consolidation is a terrible thing.
Regarding your disclaimer, It's great. It is on point both in terms of word count and in video length appearance. I'm not sure what you meant by "Vapid" idiots, but I'll live just fine not knowing this. Anyway, Thanks for the entertaining content on both of your channels
this is standard for every massive corporate takeover, this happens every time, if Disney can buy 20th Century Fox in a small industry like the movie industry, Xbox can buy Actisivison Blizzard in an industry that's way more diverse in terms of market share.
I always figure the console war is because of exclusives. If you buy a Playstation, you want that to be the "best" console. That way you get the best exclusives. You don't want games to be XBox exclusives, because then you either can't play them or have to also buy an Xbox. Something you might not have the money to do.
The problem isn't that Microsoft is acquiring Activision it's that they are the only ones that can. No other company in this space can compete with this amount of money and the Games division itself couldn't afford it. It's only palatable because Microsoft is in the gaming space. You don't want to just automatically set a precedent that leaves us with the Amazon PS6 and Google Switch 2 down the line. Companies just absorbing other companies simply because they have more money is dangerous. So oversight is fair
On one hand, someone else running Activision could mean better quality games. On the other hand, the idea that Microsoft can outbid literally any competitor it feels like gives it an unfair advantage against the whole industry. They have enough money to theoretically buy Sony and Nintendo, worth roughly the same price as Activision. And they can shrug it off as nothing because they’re worth _trillions._
I gett pissed every time some idiot trys to convince me microsoft are the good guys and they would nver abuse a monopoly... where do you think their money came from?
Keep In mind it’s not an unfair advantage if they r more innovative, have better quality products overall, are more dominant in other industries or are better at an entrepreneurial level. They deserve to use their greater funds to gain an advantage since they also invested more money and innovated more while Sony sat there trying to make a underperforming “elite” ps4 controller
Hey, so what happens if Apple, Amazon, Meta, Disney buys Activision? I know it's a defense that Microsoft has used in the past but, would it be possible? The fact that Google killed off stadia makes me doubt it but, I don't think it would be impossible if we are moving to that all digital future and the "cloud" becomes more integral to gaming and media in general. (I'm thinking, Spotify, Apple TV, Netflix, HBO Max) if the subscription model is the future and all media is streaming, then I could see Apple making that pivot to cloud gaming in order to diversify their company further and find a way to make it stand out in only the way Apple can before other platforms copy it. (Think power brick and headphones are no longer in the phone box and I bet the lightning port disappears altogether on iPhone 15). TL;DR. Apple or Disney buys a game studio in the future and regulating bodies move too slow to do anything about it.
Honestly, I’d rather we go back to fully finished physical games without any need for download required to have a full game. It’s a pipe dream, I know, but still.
Microsoft doesn't deserve Activision. They need to stop buying studios and just work on making games with the studios that they already have. Buying studios doesn't mean anything if you aren't doing anything with them in the first place.
Just because with Phil in charge Microsoft is "the good guy" right now, doesn't mean they always will be. They haven't been in the past, and they likely won't be again at some point in the future. Sony, most definitely, isn't "the good guy" right now. They have been in the past, and they likely will again, but right now, they're massive jerks. Console wars are dumb. Just play the games you want on your console of choice. Your console of choice doesn't have the games you want to play? Then, why is it your console of choice?
This whole ordeal is liking watching two kids scream over Yu-Gi-Oh cards while a third kid (Nintendo) just sits in the back and stares at them awkwardly
If you want to do business in another country you must appease their regulators as well. Microsoft and Sony want access to the profitable EU market, so they have to listen.

MS declined but Sony said yeah. Marvel also sold game rights to SE, EA, and a few others, whilst Sony also purchased the rights to Wolverine. Again, MS could have done it. It should also be noted that that MS started the timed-exclusivity schtick.
@@kevinthunder3375 yea, and who's the one taking advantage of the timed exclusives lately? Yea, Microsoft still does it, but not as bad as Sony Also, i believe that started 20 years ago whenever Microsoft consider Sony a real competitor. Sony wanted to make the "computer in the living room" and little scared of Sony at the time, they made a console, and if you want to jump start your console product, you'll probably need a game like...halo. so at the time, it was okay 20 years later Xbox is establish, ((one could say, they lost console wars to sony and netendo but 3rd place did do wonders for them)) they're ready to move on. Theyre not scared of sony, pc is future, and cloud is future, maybe meta ((not facebook meta but the idea of meta)) So past few years, then been making steps to establish them in more into the pc, subscription and cloud market. One could say, leading the industry. As for exclusive portfolio, I disagree entirely, why I should not be able play ratchet and clank on my Xbox in 2022...oh yea, that's right, you gotta buy the 500 dollar box to play it. I think what you meant by that was "build up thier ips". I agree to extent, halo, gears, and forza ((ig technically minecraft insince they are adding updates and making new games with that ip,)) but at the same time, I don't want them making a "banjo Kazooie" if rare wants to make Everwood let them, i want see what they do with that. Also Disney exclusive games, ehhh, idk, like other than spiderman....maybe iron man? I don't really care about marvel games, like, I rather have devopers make thier own games and worlds than selling thier devolpers out to a bigger franchise. I think we had our fill marvel after endgame, and I'm good with that, and then you ask about star wars. Microsoft would rather build halo ((even though failing at it)) than rather work on a almost identical franchise...or that's how I would see it... Also, Microsoft doesn't need to do anything, Xbox is like, thier 3rd job. Sony biggest money maker is a console. And if Microsoft wants to rip away consoles ((or break the exclusivity by pushing sony into a corner))...good, I'm tired of spending 570 dollars on cinematic story game. And then sony is going to down hill ((like they have been)), I rather seem them do Sega 2.0 that makes great games, than "our third party games is our bread so we're going to double down on timed exclusives, like we have been because we don't care the Xbox consumers"
now, this is the most exiting part of the whole Console wars Life cicle: When the consoles are already sold and at home... I don't care about shitty activision games, 2 years ago I bought a box that plays 60fps for 299 and i'm having the same joy of a livetime i had the day i spent less for a Ps3 just for 30 fps ... i don't care who wins, because who really won this generation is Crossplay, and this hurts only the companies, not the users, now everybody is free to choose
When it comes to _War Of The Consoles_ I've always found the Xbox hardware choices and details fascinating and the Sony choices weird, dumb or boring. I'm always looking forward to deep dives into the software engineering behind using those cool features. And then Microsoft... barely use them. Which is annoying.
the exclusivity of cod was like a playground tug o war that playstation took too far by holding dlc for a full fucking year kinda wish they would lose cod for a bit just to salt the wound
I am a Microsoft shill but I would love to make sure that I’m not ripped off on my money, but I also want to make sure that PlayStation does become good for the people
Activision is more than COD, it's a collection of well-oiled studios run like clockwork ('cept for Blizzard) They are the envy of the industry. Had I been in MS shoes, I would make COD a bi-yearly franchise instead and use 'em to develop more diverse IPs.
yeah but that doesn't make money and that's what they're concerned about, like any company. Although, It's kind of funny actually seeing these two companies squabble like kids over COD rights as that's all either is concerned about with the company.
I hope they will buy activision .Xbox gamers haven’t got any special bonuses for playing on their Xbox. While playstation always has bonuses for players. That is such a dick move from Sony (well at least it was when I played COD)
I'll never give a crap about this stuff until Microsoft stops letting xbox games on PC, because having a PS5 and PC let's me play pretty much everything.
I find it stupid that regulatory boards ignore the fact that MS is orders of magnitude bigger than sony and has way more money. They could easily monopolize the gaming industry with he money they have. That is a big worry for me from an antitrust standpoint
Yep. Honestly though, I hate both sides equally. I don’t like Sony’s constant method of making every game, especially if it’s from Atlus or Square Enix, an exclusive, and I hate how Microsoft is trying to play the role of some kind of underdog.
1:22 tbh I think both consoles are fun but as a more leaning xbox player it's just fun to talk big shit to the "other team" basically a gamer version of I'm for the political party you dont like troll
CMA is about that customers gets the best value. Playstation gets cod and Xbox gets it on gamepass which makes good value for customers. But we know CMA probably have people behind them with stocks in Sony or whatever the issue is that makes them " sony favorite ". But in the end they can't defend it. They even say Nintendo is not a competitive console with playstation and Xbox (cause more kids owns a Nintendo console) lol. Nintendo has more adult games then other console 😂 The cloud thing is funny. Sony had cloud stream before but it was putted down cause they couldn't make it good or didn't see a future in it. Now Xbox done it and seems to go right direction with it. They losing money on it but it's the long run that counts. This ain't monopoly when Sony tried and failed. They can probably get back into it but they probably don't want. Cause they ain't about making cheaper for customers. Xbox idea with cloud is making every people around the world doesn't matter where but if u have a phone u can play games aslong u have decent internet speed. Plus the subscription is cheap something Sony don't wanna have either and launch titles day one. They can compete anytime but they don't wanna. Instead they wanna like childish and like a victim. Sony had so many chances while they were almost only one on the hill as console king. But they just wanna dry out every person on money (the customers) with high prices on games, accessories etc etc, it's so see through with their market ideas. They had their chance but wasted it. Sony whining about locking cod out from them etc when they lock count on MW2 right now that's kinda funny. Playstation spread their market into PC now too after Xbox done it. Why didn't they do this way before they would be even stronger. This deal will go through. Xbox and Microsoft wouldn't put this big sack of money without consider how it will go through the deal and all stuff around. I'm sure Microsoft/Xbox are sitting on facts they just wait till moment when they really need to use it against Sony. Cause right now they just playing softly and Abit silly what they saying. But in court im sure they make Sony look naked. I loved playstation when i was kid but Xbox has now done alot right after Xbox One and Philip Spencer got the lead position. I don't see anything wrong with them owning Blizzard/Activision. Those 2 Companys were going downhill anyway and that's why Microsoft/Xbox putted out a price for them that they agreed. Good for Xbox customers and good for the company there's alot of software they will get and studios plus the mobile market. CMA is about customers and this deal makes Xbox stronger consumer friendly. And Sony gets competition to make their brand stronger with getting new ideas to continue show they are stronger then Xbox. That's competition and good for customers too. Without competition there's not much of consumer freindly for us customers. We want quality and value and that's what we get with sort of deals. This ain't monopoly just because Microsoft/Xbox has more money and can afford it. This wouldn't be Monopoly if Sony bought it. We all know Microsoft/Xbox gets shit for whatever they do. They are like black goat but they are the strong underdog.
Me personally I hope this doesn’t go through because of how shady Microsoft is and I’m hoping for it to backfire on them and hopefully it will signal the end of Xbox for good but if it does go through then I’m really hoping for Sony to grab the Crash and Spyro Licenses and get them back home on PlayStation while also getting Tao Feng and Quantum Redshift as well and Square Enix Europe or Ubisoft can grab Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater License because if not then Microsoft will sit on those games I don’t know about you guys but I rather Crash and Spyro be exclusive to PlayStation and get releases then it being Xbox Exclusive and being neglected example look at Rareware all those great games just being neglected I hate Microsoft with a passion for that man I would really love for Nintendo to buy back Rareware and get rights to all those games Banjo, Kameo, Jet Force Gemini, Perfect Dark and Killer Instinct and get Forza Motorsport as well.
Sony could just ask Naughty Dog to make their own military FPS, and will probably succeed, or just try to reverse the homogenization that Last of Us caused to their offerings (I'm only talk about SIE) in the PS4&5 compered to PS1-3. (They have really had to kill Japan Studios like that? Get Gravity Rush on PC. Screw the California World Order)
That's expensive. And risky. Better just spend a lot of money trying to block Microsoft from removing games from their platform. Irony not withstanding.
The problem with that statement is asking Naughty Dog to make a fucking video game rather than a movie. Besides, SONY HAS FUCKING KILLZONE, USE IT FOR FUCKS SAKE
I'm not sure I'd go to Naughty Dog for an FPS. And they basically did try this with Insomniac, and it didn't really work. Resistance 3 is a great game nobody played.
Also pretty sure COD style military shooters are a little burnt out for gamers… dont you think? Not like we already had 20 years of crap cod clones fps games, dont think anything sony makes will make any one want to buy a ps5 for it when all their friends still playing cod
yes console wars are just for me, fun. Some of the things posted occasionally get one or two good laughs out of me and seeing how these big corporations behave themselves purely for the "console war" is amusing to say the least. The parody from Chris voiceman "one game" is just plain funny, i highly recommend you give it a listen.
That's why if they don't approve it Microsoft is going to go the court way. The US government will obviously support Microsoft because just a few companies have the money to buy Activision/Blizzard and Tencent is one of them.
Don't worry pal, Thankfully Microsoft is confident on keeping cod on PlayStation, I wish Sony would share some of that wolverine with us pc players but i guess that truly is the reason they are so well known for console wars, because they are the scummiest of scum and as awful as they come.

If this organization is so concerned about CoD on consoles... can't they, like, force both corps to drop all of the exclusives as well? Useless.
So Sony is angry that Microsoft will do what they are currently doing?
Yes.

I always figure the console war is because of exclusives. If you buy a Playstation, you want that to be the "best" console. That way you get the best exclusives. You don't want games to be XBox exclusives, because then you either can't play them or have to also buy an Xbox. Something you might not have the money to do.

@@daRealB-Rex I mean, I love my Switch ti play games on in bed or PC. But true, there aren't that many exclusives for Switch :p
That's capitalism and free markets.
Amazon and Google are already in the gaming market, and Tencent is definetly capable of buying actvision, so yeah, microsoft is not the only one.
Microsoft did try to buy Nintendo once, but they just laughed at them.
Nintendo, doesn't give a shit, they don't want to get bought, and they don't care if microsoft buys activision or not.

Amazon's been think about buying EA so...
Microsoft doesn't deserve Activision. They need to stop buying studios and just work on making games with the studios that they already have. Buying studios doesn't mean anything if you aren't doing anything with them in the first place.
I paused to read your disclaimer, I liked and subscribed.
Just because with Phil in charge Microsoft is "the good guy" right now, doesn't mean they always will be. They haven't been in the past, and they likely won't be again at some point in the future. It should also be noted that that MS started the timed-exclusivity schtick.
@@kevinthunder3375 yea, and who's the one taking advantage of the timed exclusives lately? Yea, Microsoft still does it, but not as bad as Sony
Also, i believe that started 20 years ago whenever Microsoft consider Sony a real competitor. Sony wanted to make the "computer in the living room" and little scared of Sony at the time, they made a console, and if you want to jump start your console product, you'll probably need a game like...halo. so at the time, it was okay
20 years later Xbox is establish, ((one could say, they lost console wars to sony and netendo but 3rd place did do wonders for them)) they're ready to move on.

Sony could just ask Naughty Dog to make their own military FPS, and will probably succeed, or just try to reverse the homogenization that Last of Us caused to their offerings (I'm only talk about SIE) in the PS4&5 compered to PS1-3. Ahhhh! BoBbY!! Thats a throwback reference for you these days @whimsu !
Trust me they will
How does a UK agency have power over two US based companies?
I just want more crash games dude idgaf about this acquisition unless it does a uturn on putting all its eggs in the cowadoody basket
yes console wars are just for me, fun. Some of the things posted occasionally get one or two good laughs out of me and seeing how these big corporations behave themselves purely for the "console war" is amusing to say the least. The parody from Chris voiceman "one game" is just plain funny, i highly recommend you give it a listen.
I debated antitrust on the college debate circuit for the whole year last year so its really funny seeing this come up in the context of gaming
My question is how a uk company can stop this when Microsoft and activision are both US company’s
That's why if they don't approve it Microsoft is going to go the court way. The US government will obviously support Microsoft because just a few companies have the money to buy Activision/Blizzard and Tencent is one of them.
I really hope this doesn't happeb. I'm a big fan of cod and I really hope it doesn't leave playstation
It won't leave Sony massive lose for Microsoft plus it will go in game pass
it wont tho microsoft let minecraft on Playstation. Didnt they?
Don't worry pal, Thankfully Microsoft is confident on keeping cod on PlayStation, I wish Sony would share some of that wolverine with us pc players but i guess that truly is the reason they are so well known for console wars, because they are the scummiest of scum and as awful as they come.
I don't have a shred of trust in MS. I am 100% sure they will rip COD off of PS the moment they get the chance. They are desperate to use their financial weight to get ahead and crush PS. They've done it before. They'll do it again. This purchase should be denied no doubt
i just want neither of them to have exclusive content cuz i play on PC and i get the short end no matter what
Yea but getting COD and WoW on gamepass is better.
@@thegoat2985 but if they rip CoD away from PlayStation you lose 40% of the playerbase
i'm going to buy activision blizzard
WOOO YEAH YEAH BIG RED YEAH
@@OGSumo thank you, thank you 👍
now imagine if the person behind this account was actually a billionaire that could buy Activison. That would be fun
He said it! He will buy Activision!
