      I can see it being to limiting to the field of view and still be effective to see who is coming to the door. But it may be great for others who can block parts of the camera and still maintain the benefits of recordings. Thanks Robert for checking out the video. Have a great weekend.

    Another reviewer said that you can answer the Ring Video Doorbell 3 right on an Echo Show device and that when someone rings the doorbell, it "automatically" shows the person at the door on the Echo show device without even having to tell Alexa to show the door. Then you can talk to the person by tapping the microphone icon on the Echo Show device. I think that is a very nice feature.

      I got rid of my Ring and switched to Eufy because the previous winter temperatures of just 10F made the camera useless. The batteries would die and would not charge and you need the batteries to run the camera even if wired! What?

    I’m thinking the blackout zone is good depending on the shape of your house. If your door is on the side but facing the street it may also be able to look into a window of the house. Some old houses here in MA are built like that.

    One thing I have found to be an issue on my Ring DB 1st gen. is some times I miss the bulk of an event because the camera did not turn on soon enough, not a huge deal for me but I guess I'll have to see what the new devices have to offer. Thanks for the update on the RDB Craig, great video Sir.

      Hello Tim, I know what you mean about that. It is annoying in my opinion. Like Diego said the doorbell pro fixes that. If it is possible to hardwire the doorbell, I definitely think the pro is the way to go. You see a pre-roll already. The doorbell caches so much video and then adds what happens right before the doorbell or motion sensor is triggered. It’s nice to see the full event. Thanks for checking out the video. Hope you are doing well.

    One advantage of the Doorbell 3 is the removable battery. I would get an extra battery and keep it charged so that when the installed rechargeable battery is low, I just pop in the charged one. With the older battery powered unit when the battery is low I have to remove the unit and bring it inside to charge it which takes several hours, all that time I am without the Ring doorbell service.
    Thanks for great review.

    Here in the UK, the whole issue of privacy is getting bigger, if your ring phone faces a neighbours home then the neighbours don't want to be recorded by you 24/7. E.g. for me, my doorbell could record their every movement in and out of their house. Hence these blackout zones are needed. We even have legal cases of neighbours suing neighbours for spying on them.

    Hi Craig
    In Denmark and probably also in most of Europe, it is not allowed to film on the street via a video camera or a doorbell. Therefore, blocking is part of the screen when you record, something you have to - the law ... but if you do, it's probably up to you ...;)

    The new Ring 3 Plus vs the Ring Pro - I am looking to get one but I am not sure which one would be better for me. The doorbell would be facing the street which is about 20 feet away. I like the pre-roll but I think they both have that. It will be wired as I have an old NuTone intercome there now. I like that the Pro I can make custom motion zones where the Plus does that have. Any comments would be most appreciated. Craig Thank you for the video.

    I'm getting notifications all the time. I'll have Amazon stand right in front of my porch and take a picture and it doesn't go off and then also get 15 notifications for car's going down the street even though I have the zone settings halfway up the driveway. Even at that when we're coming home or leaving we typically only get a video that shows someone about to walk into the house or have just walked out of the house. I'm pretty aggravated with it right now.

      It sounds like you are having a similar experience to what I had with the original battery powered versions. I've been setting up 2 houses, hundreds of miles apart with echos controlled devices. So far I can control devices in either house from any echo regardless of location. Love the all echo integration Now I'm looking at camera's.
    I got one that works ok as a camera that I can access with there app. Even Pans. Poor instructions. And it said alexa comparable. But hooking it up to alexa and anything else it looks like a monthly fee. Defiantly no where was that clear.
    I want what we all want. Motion activated, snapshot or video recording, locally stored files. Power wired indoor camara. Notification to phone and alexa. Remotely accessible to view, talk and listen, from phone computer or alexa. Remote access to download the captured files to phone or computer. Files should standard formats. No service fees!
    Any recommendations? I'll keep looking.

    Hi Craig, I am a UK viewer of your video, which I found very helpful. I was about to purchase the "Plus" doorbell, but your video has made me hesitate. You obviously have a lot of knowledge about Ring doorbells, and seem to favour the "Pro" version. I have a main road approx 30 feet from a possible doorbell. Would the Pro be best to prevent continuous triggering, or what Ring variant would you recommend. I am now seriously considering the Pro version, depending on your response. Many thanks.

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  Рік тому

      Personally I would go for one of the pros
      Versions. Either the original like mine or the newer one. The hardwired with a 5 second video buffer is the way to go. You see all of the motion when it happens. Instead of someone practically at the door or waking away by the time the camera starts recording. The pro helped me with dialing in my zones so cars and people would not set it off. The zones are very accurate. First ring went off all the time with road and people traffic.

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  4 роки тому

      I get what you saying. But half the benefit of these devices are being able to review recordings. Especially if you have a package stolen or your house broken into. If you blackout the apartment door across from you, you are most likely going to be blacking out the person you want to see. Just picture a full person standing outside your door and see if they would be blacked out in a video if you blacked out the door across from you. I have thought about blacking out the very people I would want to see at my door when I made my initial comments about the blackout. I can see people blacking out things and then checking in to see who was at the front door only to find they can’t see the person because they blacked out that area.

    I have the original Ring on a masonry townhouse. The picture is pixelated and it's slow to load. Ring claims that the Wifi is better on the newer versions. Is this really true? My friend has the Nest Doorbell and it seemed lightyears better than the Ring in terms of picture quality. The only reason I want to stick with the Ring product line is that I have a bunch of chimes which wouldn't be compatible.

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  4 роки тому

      The nest doorbell is definitely a head of the first generation. I have not used the nest doorbell but have heard great things. You definitely need a strong signal to connect to ring doorbells quickly. The new doorbells can do 5ghz which is faster. But 5ghz doesn’t travel as far. So you still need a strong signal at the doorbell. I don’t think the masonry helps the signal. I don’t know for sure if it will help. The good thing is that you can order it and return it if it doesn’t work better. In your case I would buy it and get it all setup before mounting it. Since it is battery powered you can just use the batteries and run the setup process. If it connects quick and connects quick you then mount it. The new one if 1080p and the original is 720p, so the new one should look better. I hope if you get one it works better for you. I know my video doorbell pro is so much better than my original ring doorbell.

    Before I listen to the rest, right off - no, the Ring 3 is not as good as the Pro and for those of you who use a computer screen to check live view - the newer doorbells do not work with Windows 10. The older models still work with Windows 10 - sort of, but the only feature that works well is live view. Okay. Now I'll listen to the video. 😀
    By the way, if you use your computer screen for live view, the time I get connected after asking for live view is 2 seconds, the same as Rapid Ring on my phone. Like the computer screen view because of the size and detail that can be seen. On the other hand, Echo Show takes 6-7 seconds.

    The reason to black out filming areas: in Amsterdam its prohibited to film persons without their written consent, on public ground (the new privacy law). Even on own grown its punishable to film a burgler. I would do it anyway because then I get his address. Please show us the possibillity to black out areas. I live in the centre, directly at public walkway. Martin

      That makes sense based on local laws. They haven’t gone that far yet where I am. The fact you can’t film a burglar is crazy. I ended up cancelling my order and will not be able to do a follow up on this. I could not justify buying it at this time to have to sell it once I reviewed it. It is a step backwards from the Ring Video Doorbell Pro.

    Please don't take this as a bad comment. 250 bucks plus tax seem like a lot for a door bell. I just want to not be in the bed room and have to walk all the way to the door just to see a salesman. But that is just me. You spoke about distance and black out and all the work it seems that has to be done just to get like you like. What did you do before all of this lol. Anyway spend 50 bucks and no work and you don't have to go to the door to see a salesman. BTW we all love gadgets and me most of all bur I will pass on this one. Great info btw and thanks for all of your work on this and a lot of other things:).

      Same here but I was really hoping there would be enough new features to justify the upgrade! I’m hoping 🤞🏽 that we’re looking/comparing the wrong ring camera. That this new one is a comparison to the ring 2 and nit a comparison to the ring pro, and that later in will get a camera that is more of an upgrade compared to the ring pro 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

    So basically it’s not better than pro.. good to know since I am about go get a doorbell real soon.

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  4 роки тому

      I think the pro is definitely better with the customizable zones and the continuous power that allows for a small buffer to be maintained. That way it can show you the moment a few seconds before the motion was triggered. The new version is only good for those who can’t hardwire their doorbell. If you have power to your doorbell, i would spend $20 more that the 3+ and get a pro.

      Hello Maegan, I am sorry I don’t. I have not tried them yet. I have heard good things. They are an Amazon company too, but I think Amazon is good about letting these different companies operate independently. I have not heard anything bad about them from anyone. I also have not read any privacy issues with them.
