You can avoid the hole in the interior wall by just drilling through the masonry and fishing from the outside to the hole below on the inside. If you run the wire along the top of the baseboard, you can avoid removing it.
@@cameranmanner4701 You misunderstand what I meant. Drill the hole behind the doorbell camera and run the wires down the inside of the wall, then drill a hole inside at the bottom of the inside wall and pull the wire in and run it along the baseboard to the transformer. This way you avoid the extra hole inside that needs patching.
When I used to work for (Vivint), I would share the same power for the panel for the doorbell. You can tap it and use off the wall fish and then tighten them behind it. It would be a clear insulation you take off the ADT panel. Then you can run 18 to off the security panel to the doorbell because probably a new master bedroom closet or in the garage wherever that power supply is located will be strong enough power to run the doorbell and the panel.
My first thought was the same about just wiring directly to the AC power source. Then both outlets would be usable without a random wire coming out of the wall with a plug. Then I thought about it and figured the reason he didn't tap into the power directly was because the plug adapter to the ring camera converts the ac current down to dc current. Without the adapter plug doing this, his ring camera would probably be irreparably damaged by too much voltage.
I sure appreciate your video. I have snaked a lot of wire through walls but I did not have the magnetic type and i'm gonna get one of those. In the instructions for the ring doorbell it says you can connect the wires from your original doorbell to those 2 screws which is what I did and my battery has been on 100% for almost 9 years. That is a good idea for those without a working doorbell in that location.
This is very good to show people who are not electricians how to install a ring door bell. But for an electrician this is something straight forward and doesn't need to be taught. By the way ring door bell supplies the transformer with the door bell so you don't need to buy a new power supply
So, you have a choice on hard wired or non hard wired. So buy the non hard wired so you can rip your house apart to convert your own hard wired door bell. The guys a genius.
I have an extra ring battery and it only needs changing once every two months. Not bad and I don't mind it. What you did was good but a lot of work. I live in a Coop and the door is metal and hard to drill through. But more than that, we cannot make holes in the door. I have the Ring Door Bell attached to the door with strong double sided tape. There is not much activity on my floor and may capture a neighbor leaving an apartment once or twice a day. If you are constantly having to change and charge your ring battery it means it is doing a lot of recording all day. If you can change the ring door bell settings or buy an extra battery and keep it charged .
Great video my only thight is instead of cutting the driveway and then feeding to the ring drill the hole for the ring feed the fish from outside then pull wire directly from outside
Great video. One suggestion though: instead of making that top hole on the inside, just stick the fishing line directly from the outer hole down to that lower hole. You can then attach the wire and pull it directly outside. This will prevent the need for any drywall repair (no need to drill all the way through in the beginning).
That's usually not the case in most walls because exterior walls have insulation. And you could have removed door molding one hole to the ring bell with drill bit on a diagonal...
Nice video. Instead of patching the hole in the drywall behind the Ring, if you don't think you are up to the task. you can simply fasten a blank switch plate over the hole - or a light switch that isn't connected to anything and does absolutely nothing.
I was thinking of ripping up my drive, laying a cable down and then back up and into a substaion, when ive built it,then run an extension lead from the sub to a junction box next to the doorbell, and then a cable from the junction box to the bell, all WITHOUT a power source and so simple to do. !!! 👍😂😂
You could have drilled a tiny hole in the outlet faceplate at the corner and fished the wire through it before fishing it through the wall, then the wire would not have run under the edge of the faceplate 👍🏻 just an idea 💡 😊
Great job. Trouble with UK plaster, there’s plaster dotted all over the rear of the plaster wall and even with a meter to identify them, that does not always help. Will give it a go thought 👍

Nice idea!! Question: Can you leave the ac transformer plugged in all the time or would have to unplug it when you see the battery if fully charged. Just wonder if it overcharge the battery.
Cell oxidation occurs with lithium-ion batteries. This is an inherent result of using Li-Ion batteries and occurs during the charging process. Eventually, too many electrons are moved to the point that the battery retains “full” power, but actually unable to deliver it to the device, which results in reduced capacity. So it’s “better” to leave a device permanently plugged compared with charge and use.

Short what leads ? It's only 2 wires caring 24v . The ring doorbell is rated for 24v . The only way to short the doorbell out is to mistakenly put 120v to it. So , what are you talking about ! Explain yourself about the resistor !
@@anthonydukes5832 old doorbell buttons were just a switch shorting the two leads. Some new doorbells do the same thing in order to sound the old original bells in the house. so you need a resistor so you don't short the power supply.

Thanks, it looks easy enough but how come you didn’t have to go through insulation? Wow what a lovely house you have. In England most us live in homes that are bilt in the Victorian age, so there are like 3 electrical sockets. Is thier away to power this by coal or steam?
Good video. Why not take the electric from where you have your switches? It requires some more expertise but it is a shorter span. Also if there is a basement, the power adapter can be located there and the wire pulled up up to the first floor.
Very informative video. THX. I have a different problem concerning the Ring Video Doorbell II. I have the hard wiring in place from my old doorbell, which is connected to the old NuTone Chime in the house. Wire extenders were added to the outside wires as needed. Connected the Ring Doorbell to hard wire it, But It does not properly ring the Chime. The Chime will DING, take 5 seconds (with the Chime buzzing) and then DONG. A number of calls made to Ring Customer Service were unsuccessful to get this Chime to work. Ring suggested via their web site a list of other Chimes that They say "should" work. The Transformer is the correct one. My question is this: If I disconnect the Chime's Front Door bell wire, wiil that affect the transformer's electric signal to the Ring Doorbell?? So, If I elect to replace the Chime with a suggested one later on, the Ring Doorbell will be getting power to trickle charge the Battery (That's How it works BTW). PS.... I tried YT videos from Ring that mentions either a Jumper for the Chime connections, or an adapator (that only works to adapt a Ring Pro not the gen 2 model), and I did use the Ring App to select mechanical Chime....NG. I have already purchased a new Chime ( a NuTone knock off form NewHouse) to replace my old NuTone thinking that may have been the problem - the new one did not work. Ned to return that and try one of the suggested ones. Appreciate anybody's advice here.
I have another solution, since you have power already going to your ring doorbell, why not just get a ring doorbell chime and connect it wirelessly to the doorbell it will work seamlessly rather than trying to get a mechanical doorbell chime
Just curious. Why can’t you use the incoming power from the 3 gang switch box? Just turn the 3 gang into a four gang box. Add a receptical. Clean....no baseboard mess, short run.

But those of you who have the skill or no better scenarios like I do, you have to consider that he’s doing something that average homeowner could do without too much trades skills involved. As soon as I saw his idea, I was like man they are better ways, butfor someone who may not have skills or doesn’t mind the aesthetic of seeing that wire coming out the back of the plate like that for the plug, it works. I give them credit for coming up with the idea. Maybe a grade C on creativity.
Thanks for the comment jason. You are right a lot of times i do things that i think the average diyer would be more comfortable with.
my house exactly same..what kind of door bell should I buy ? I can make hole for adaptor line to inside. should I order battery doorbell?
you can buy any ring doobell that fits your budget. they will all be similar
You did a good job so amazing Thank you for showing us a good way to keep the bell from going all the time. That's a good idea. It's amazing. Thank you for your time. I appreciate it my friend thank you god bless you
you are welcome
Can you use alarm wire? Thanks
Hi good night, I did mine just like how you did yours, however , mines stopped charging but it still had the charging symbol on it and it switched from battery source from hardwired to battery. Do you have any suggestions? I greatly appreciate it 🙏🏾
sounds like you need a new battery
@@DeaninItYourself it's the built-in battery, and ring send me another one and the same thing happened. And thanks for answering me.
This directly solves my problem. Thanks!
You're welcome.
The power adapter it to short
So since u know what you doing
Can I add a and wired the cables to the power adapters
Thank you
I’m thinking to get one is wired one better or without wires
they both work great the only thing is with the wired one you dont have to worry about charging your battery
I would av checked if there’s any free cores on the alarm panel keypad and used that to power or if going back to a panel else where to installed ac/dc unit. If this makes bit of sense
hmm ill check that. I dont think the panel is 24 volts though, but i will check
@@DeaninItYourself most likely would be 12vdc but at panel could install a 240vac (uk) out 24vdc inline psu inside panel if engineer done cabling neatly
Just confused ur adapter id dc or ac out put, you are not checking + or - while correct?
Thank you my friend for a very informative vid , appreciate your time and attention to detail , take care and of those you love
Thanks, you too!
Would it not be easier to remove the switches inside as one controls the outlet by base board and change the 3 switch to a 2 switch. Connect ring wires to wires you took off removed switch and you will have constant power to outlets and ring doorbell ?
maybe, but i liked this way better for me. its just a preference
Thank you for your video. I have another project in the burner.
you are welcome
Excellent and very clear video. Thank you so much.😊
You're very welcome!
I got the solar panel and it works great, battery always full. However the wire along the outside is annoying.
Thanks, it looks easy enough but how come you didn’t have to go through insulation? I have something like 30R insulation in my walls but you were able to drill straight through the outside wall without having to move any insulation. Is no insulation normal? It was an option when i had my house built so I asked for the most possible.
the outside wall is concrete, and the only insualtion is this foil faced insulation
Thank you very much prescient all the same permission to give out awesome! I do have a question though what about the two wires that go to the doorbell chimes itself? The ones I have do not charge the battery! So what can I do to get it to sound off let me know I truly appreciate you and I love you videos you're awesome
Can you use the power from a conventional doorbell?
yes you can
Wow what a lovely house you have. In England most us live in homes that are bilt in the Victorian age, so there are like 3 electrical sockets. Is thier away to power this by coal or steam?
thank you
Good video. Why not take the electric from where you have your switches? It requires some more expertise but it is a shorter span. Also if there is a basement, the power adapter can be located there and the wire pulled up up to the first floor.
This man is a beast! Thanks a million
Earned a follow for the 'borrow' them bit. dun know
From London that was so easy thank you sir 🙏🏿
Glad it helped
Great job! This will help folks.
Thank you bro. I was going to hire someone to do it at my mom's.
Will that work in the winter
One quick question
Is the power adapter you bought 10 FT long because I saw one but the ring brand for$25.00 10 FT long
Just curious. Why can’t you use the incoming power from the 3 gang switch box? Just turn the 3 gang into a four gang box. Add a receptical. Clean....no baseboard mess, short run.
That could work too.
Pretty easy project m gonna see how much my doorbell baytery last from there I will see if I make that project
Can this process be done with the 1st Generation Ring Doorbell?
