    Longines has some kind of bizarre commitment to ridiculously long lugs. Fifty mm lug to lug with male end links is NOT going to fit a small wrist. I don't care how beautiful the dial is, if the dimensions are this preposterous.

    • @deekydeekydooda
      @deekydeekydooda 2 роки тому +2

      Agreed. Tried on a blue one as it seemed an ideal watch. The face - perfect. The lugs - bad. I've a 6.25inch wrist and it's too big for that

      @@Mister_Phafanapolis I'm afraid their customers enjoy over hanging watches.
      And the big wrists who want to buy a smaller watch still wants it to feel as close as possible to a Hublot.
      It's a sales thing. A cross sales, actually.
      Hamilton and Longines are in every boutique on Earth selling a piece a jewelry and a watch.
      Their typical customer is the rather wealthy, in his 30s and 40s, who wants to buy his first automatic watch like dad and '' big boys '' do.
      He's familiar with those boutiques, he probably already bought jewelry there, and lets the salesman guides him to that safe choice Swatch has built for him. The amount of people who knows the brand names Hamilton and Longines is enormous, by their parents and grand parents.
      Little bit of nostalgia, common knowledge that '' Swiss make good watches '', wears as the magazines say it should yet more classy than that smart watch he has.
      Boom, it's a deal.
      Same process if it's a gift. They're intended to be sold to people who are not much into watches but kind of want to be.
      Longines is a bit more refined thanks to some models that save them from a total failure, albeit the fact that those models are from 5 to 7 decades ago.

    As many have already said, a gorgeous watch that is just not sized right. If I was at the helm of Longines, I'd make it a 38mm diameter with 20mm lug width and 46mm lug to lug.

    Longines is on a roll, I think this is a beautiful watch. It is quite pricey which may make educated buyers think twice before buying it as a used IWC petit prince on a leather strap is a bit more expensive but not out of the way. My reservations with modern Longines watches come from having seen the fabulous watches they made in the 50's and 60's. They were serious competitors of Omega back then and had beautiful in-house movements. A tough act to follow.
    Now they're part of the Swatch group and contain ETA movements.
    All something of a letdown from those 'glorydays'.
    Nevertheless, this is a fine watch. The 'explorer' type case will make it a BIG 40mm (personally I'd prefer a 38mm with this case); whatever.
    The dial is excellent, together with the WR and screwdown crown.
    If you've got 3k it's a worthy contender.

    • @Treveljan
      @Treveljan 2 роки тому +5

      Sure, it's an ETA, but it's a modded 2892 (like the omega cal. 1120), not your avarage 2824 copy. And: it's ETA, not Sellita (like TAG Heuer, Oris, Squale etc.), at a great price. This movement is even upgraded in some ways (like the longer power reserve). I would consider Longines watches with this movement the best value proposition in their price range, simply because their movements are better.

    Expensive? Yes. But one gets a lot of applied goodies on that superbly gilt dial. Then it runs into the brick wall known as “The Swatch Group Conundrum.” Omega? Completely unaffected and thriving. Breguet? What the hell is Breguet doing in the Swatch Group? Longines? Perception that there is absolutely minimal distinction between Longines / Hamilton / Tissot /Mido / Certina. Solution - Be patient and buy the Longines from other-than-AD sources, and pocket that 28 to 35%.

    • @Mister_Phafanapolis
      @Mister_Phafanapolis 2 роки тому +1

      I cannot understand buying from an AD and paying more for nothing. The WIS conundrum is that these watches are an iNvEsTmEnT and will last for a thousand lifetimes and will be passed down to the alien invaders millennia from now BUT ALSO you need a two year manufacturer's warranty to cover this product. An asinine inconsistency.
