So I am strongly considering buying one of these watches from my place of work, I had it on my wrist today, and the long may be the deal breaker for myself too. Still thinking about it.
However, it's worth mentioning, there is another reasons for the increased price on the Prestige edition, other than extra straps. The bracelet on the L3.810.4.53.6, the 40mm non-prestige black dial, has a very slim butterfly clasp, opposed to the folding clasp featured on the one in the video. The regular version also does not feature that quick release clasp mechanism. For those considering this watch, the regular version 40mm black or white dial both start at $2,150 USD.
Great review! It didn't click in my head why it was more expensive until I went back and watched your unboxing.

That's some great information, thank you very much! My AD has not received the regular version yet so I couldn't verify beforehand. The Longines website does show that the quick release mechanism is only on the "Prestige" edition

@@engineer_wannabe Yeah that is the big one I would say, that quick release is some cool shit. But they do not show the different clasps, those tricky bastards! But hey works for me since I lean towards butterfly clasps, avoiding the big scratch plate on the bottom of my wrist.
I will decide by the end of tomorrow if I want the Spirit. I'm also pondering the white dial Record with roman numerals, or the Master bi-comp chronograph. I'll keep ya posted!

Long do you mean long lugs, if that is the case, yes I see what you mean. The lug to lug is something they need to address. Perhaps 2 versions would do it, I can wear upto 52.5 mm, after that it's a bad fit but they need to consider the audience with a max 49mm, if they really want global clients. It does appear a bit long on your wrist but not too long. I haven't seen you with the bracelet, it might be better or far worse. Edit: this is the second time I'm watching this vid, something that I don't usually do. Especially the black dial is amazing and I must have it. Yes, I noticed on bracelet it's a bit long for 6.25"/6,50" wrist. But it still gorgeous and if the wrist can accommodate this length, it's a must have.

@@engineer_wannabe hey! I ended up grabbing the Master Collection Bicompax Chronograph, Ref L2.629.4
One came up for a super good price in new-stock used condition and I grabbed it for $1500. I love it, maybe more than my Omega. Super comfortable, and a really slim modular chronograph movement, the case is only 11.7mm thick.

I saw this watch yesterday and it's stunning. I'm trying to decide between it and Sinn 556i. Two very different watches, the Longine's with all of the bells and whistles, or the completely utilitarian Sinn. I had a IWC Spitfire but for whatever reason it never did it for me. I fear history may repeat itself if I get the Longines, more visually stunning but I don't know if it'll feel at home on my large wrists while I'm casually dressed. I guess it's a fun tough problem to have.

The 2 are absolutely gorgeous ! I must admit I prefer the charcoal grey dial, looks great on it's bracelet, instrument like on cognac nato - amazing contrast and for every occasion the choco brown. The watch was very well reviewed, shots from all angles, but the profile shot was the best. A complete harmony, lugs rising to the case and at the peak, the domed crystal. Crown, amazing , bracelet/clasp 10/10. Strap clasps, nothing that reminds a $2000-$4000 accessory, more suitable a $5000-$7000 watch. I've bought (sold many) really too many watches in my life time and at this point not easily impressed, this watch amazed me. Longines has a very long history, I see a come back. A very noticeable come back. I only own 3 Longines, the only 1 I truly enjoy is the legend divers. I'm looking forward to a review of the Chrono but I'm seriously tempered next week to grab this particular version if it's available, either way it's a totally different watch from the Chrono. Price wise, and I'm saying this in all honesty, I believe it's a value for money. This watch worths every last cent. Many thanks for one more great review, looking forward to the next.

Thank you very much once again, Matthew, you are far too kind.
I do see Longines knocking it out of the park again but I fear they will always be under the shadow of Omega...but, you never know.
The next review will be a short one on the new monopusher chronograph from Longines. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

    • @mathewazzopard8100
      @mathewazzopard8100 3 роки тому

@@engineer_wannabe 1st off I'm just stating facts, your reviews are clean, well worded and cover the subject spherically. Without any bias or favor to a specific brand, make. That is important to the viewer, an audience that seeks info on a watches/s or motivation as to which piece should be next or simply the watch lover that appreciates watches. Keep your reviews in that spirit and the channel will grow. Back to the watch now, despite the fact that the monopusher some consider it primitive ad it is the early version of chronos, personally I love them. I only own 3, one of them is really unique. I am actually excited to hear there is a Longines monopushoir on the way and would love to see a review on it. Omega has done some very serious marketing. It came into Bond's life right after the 1stRoger Moore Bond, Live and Let Die. They have invested seriously in the Olympics, and although there was a period that it stayed, how shall I put it, in the shadows, they made a serious come back. Right after Rolex's ceramic insert, they quickly picked up the upgrades race. Screws on the bracelet Instead of the outdated (and horrid Amen to that) pins and so on. Looking at their past 30 years, one can safely say are here to stay, not to mention they are aiming higher. That tho shouldn't concern Longines ad they offer a good yet affordable product. If they keep this up, will form a league of their own. A league that will reflect their own come back, because what is Longines doing for the past 15 years, is to revive or reinstate their presence in the world market. I currently see pieces that are not inspired from other brands, but clean and unique designs, if that's the course, they will have a solid spot. The competition is high, nothing can be taken for granted and there should be a constant effort for innovation, improvement, fair pricing and respect of the buyer.

Pretty good review of a very nice watch. But why do so many UA-cam reviewers begin by claiming they want to do a "quick review"? As in, "Hey guys, [Name] here, and I just want to do a quick review of [name of product]". What does "quick" review even mean? BTW at 3:50, it's not a "silicone" balance spring; it's a silicon balance spring. Silicone is a kind of synthetic rubber. Silicon is a metallic element.

nice review! longines and nomos are really battling it out for most annoying lug length. the bracelet hides it pretty well but the strap exposes those massive ‘claws’ imo. you’re right, it’s a very charming watch otherwise.

If your wrist is around 16cm in circumference or more, the bracelet should be able to accommodate. Plenty of removable links. I would suggest buying the bracelet and adding a leather strap later, if you plan on selling it in the future. You get more for your money during the purchase and you will get more money back when you decide to sell it.
If you plan on keeping it forever, then yeah, the leather strap is fantastic!

Nice review bud. These are great watches. I just got one (black 40mm on bracelet, non prestige). Fortunately it fits me, but they do have a big wingspan (bracelet overhangs the lugs). I've medium/large wrists, but for medium or smaller it will wear big - a shame they don't make smaller models, but maybe they will. The quality of finish is very good, just a slight step down from Omega, but for much less. If you're in the market for a very well designed, quality watch (and you have medium or larger wrists) these are great. Prestige edition is totally not worth it.
