Longines have bided their time in launching a comprehensive line of wrist-ready pilot watches that are suited to any occasion. While their historical contributions in aviation can’t be ignored, working alongside gargantuan names such as Amelia Earhart, Charles Lindbergh and Philip Van Horn Weems, the Heritage lineup of watches that Longines have sold for years are undoubtedly niche. The vintage-accurate style is a boon for a lot of collectors, but the average watch enjoyer generally just needs something that will seamlessly blend in with whatever they’re wearing, and in that sense, the Spirit range truly captures the "spirit" of what those early pilot watches were - legible, reliable, and suited to their era.
Now, there’s a healthy variety of Spirit watches available in a range of sizes, materials, and dial colours, ensuring that customers have plenty of options in finding their self-expression within the collection. The details and finishing of these watches is really what sets them apart from the competition of daily-wear watches, with a dial that just keeps rewarding you the closer you look. For a deeper dive into the world of the Longines Spirit, along with some drool-worthy macro shots, check out this video breakdown.

The good thing regarding the titanium option, is that it omits the date window, and has a number three numeral. This keeps the symmetry dead right.
    An awesome looking watch.

I really commend Longines for not taking the cheap route with the titanium model. By that I mean their decision to use grade 5 titanium vs grade 2. Not only is it harder, it looks more like steel!

Thanks for this in depth video, phenomenal camera/lighting work, and a great review. The footage was great. The Titanium model has me really interested, and it's on my consideration list for a big birthday purchase for next year, due to so many things you called out - the anthracite, the gilt, red tipped seconds, and the Titanium all just gel together so well. It reminds me of the Black Bay 58, but somehow with more personality. I do want to try it on, though I'm not overly worried about the lack heft. I have worn the Tudor Pelagos (also on my contender list), and found the weight of that to be wonderful. I don't mind a bit of heft, but also find myself not wanting a heavy watch.

The Longines Spirit Titanium is a really awesome timepiece. I loved the look of the original stainless steel version, but after seeing the beautiful no date symmetrical dial on the titanium, I'll have to dig deeper into my wallet now. I'll be getting the 42mm version for my birthday present to myself in a few months. Perfect for my 19cm wrist. Actually has shorter lugs than my old Pulsar chronograph from 2005. Hardly a problem, as they're curved over the wrist in any case.

Thanks for the review. I purchased the Longines Spirit 40mm in blue this past spring. I love the blue color and blue leather strap, but I really like the titanium without the date. I would prefer that if watches are going to have a date, keep the face symetric and put the date at the 6 o'clock position.

I have the 40 mm version in steel. I have to say that I tried the 37 mm 3 weeks ago and I prefer the 40 mm even I have a small wrist. My explanation:
It is an aviation style timepieces so you can wear it on the sleeve of your jacket as well on a nice NATO. I don't agree with small cases in aviation watches. You take it for this reason. Also the crown is bigger and more impressive, it has screw down crown and the 37 not, blasted hands in 40 mm and polished in 37 mm version. All in all I prefer the 40 mm version!

Beautiful watch and great review. Strongly considering the 40mm version in black. It would be helpful to know the size of your wrist. My wrist is 7 inches (about 50 or 51mm wide) so wondering if the lug to lug on the 40 mm would wear well.

  • @irawolf

This seems like a great daily watch by the specs but I can’t get past the five stars and ancient winged logos. The five stars remind of local police chiefs in the news with five stars on their collar. Unless you’re a real five star general, don’t wear five stars. As for their winged logo, it looks like a space ship from a 1930’s Flash Gordon serial. I much prefer the no-logo dials on the Longines Heritage Classic line. If they only had 100m water resistance and screw down crown…

  • @llcharl1e
