"poor Max it's not his fault, it's all me" Was such an important thing to know! Realizing and admitting you are the problem is such an important step in training like this!
@koi°•^diki she absolutely was having not trained him properly at a young age but what I'm saying is that it takes a big person to admit to not having nicked a problem on the bud earlier for the wellbeing of their animal. She was so sweet about it and worked hard to take that mistake, learn from it and rectify it.
Exactly! I'm so tired of people blaming the animal for THEIR mistakes! Its not the animals fault YOU didn't teach/train them properly thats on you the human not the animal I am so glad she took responsibility for HER mistakes!
I mean I even saw how adults wolves set boundaries with their pups. It's the same with dogs, they need to learn boundaries. Especially large dogs like that.
When I managed a pet store, one of my favorite encounters was with an elderly, fragile lady who came in with her enormous Rottweiler. She needed a new leash for him - and selected a 1/4" wide nylon leash. Her dog was so well trained he never tugged, pulled or tangled up the leash. She weighed about as little as half of him, but had him under complete, loving control the entire time. Needless to say, they had both attended obedience/companion classes, and it showed.
There’s this woman on my street and she also has a huge well trained rottweiler. She’s old and frail but i still see her walking her perfectly trained dog with her having all control
I have a 160 lb St Bernard who’s exactly this way. In the yard we roped off half of it with garden twine and she has no idea she could easily get through it. She’ll sit on my feet but doesn’t get on the couch or anything. She’ll back up into you and tried putting her butt onto your lap. But she’s happiest to just lay around and watch me watch tv. She’s not a huge fan of long walks or the dog park (too much energy) but LOVES to lay outside when it’s cold outside. We don’t have a fence and she doesn’t even leave the property line. Dogs walking by don’t even notice her. She’s definitely the sweetest and most gentle dog I’ve ever had or been around. Even the vet remarks how well behaved and gentle she is. But she does enjoy rubbing her face on you and the slobber gets ALL over.😂 They are the best dogs.
This is why training giant dogs when they are puppies is so important. He wasn’t given any boundaries when he was small, now that he’s huge it’s impossible for her to manage.
@@abomination2024 that's shows a lot of intelligence, to be fair the dog I'm talking about was always gentle with the kids but man did he pull on the leash with the adults!
I was about to say the same thing. It's so important to set boundaries and give consequences when they are puppies especially if you know that It's gonna be a big dog. Constancy is a MUST to get a good dog.
I 100% agree- training, consistency, and communication are crucial. I've got a Great Dane who's only 16 months old but loose leash walks very well, and when she has infrequent momentary lapses because she sees a child or bird she wants to play with, she responds quickly to verbal corrections and then goes back to walking well, instead of dragging us down the street. She's in the public access training phase of service dog training right now, and she is doing great. A lot of issues are age-specific and pups will outgrow the behavior as long as they have consistent feedback. 99.99% of the time, the issue is with the humans, not with the dog.

We live by the beach and my dog has to wear a life jacket even though all the other pet parents think it's silly. Everyone else sends their dog straight into the water after a ball, and I'm like, whoa! I'm an excellent swimmer and I wouldn't go out that far alone without a swim buoy. If the dog gets into trouble, there's no way you could get to them on time! Most people don't realize how risky it is. If your dog is swimming alone in deep water, then Fido needs a life jacket!
I saw a video of two golden retrievers bounding out into a lake. Only a few seconds later, one of the dogs suddenly started struggling. The owner ran out and dragged the now lifeless dog to land and had to perform CPR. Luckily, the dog made it, but it was shocking how fast it all happened- and in a quiet lake and a dog bred for swimming. Good on you for making your dog wear a life jacket. A dog who accidentally inhales water or is swept out on a current, won't last long without one.

I'm in Vegas, and worked at a pet store in an area with a lot of affluent retired aged folks. The number of them who got golden retrievers, labs, huskies, great Danes, great Pyrenees, etc, is WILD to me. Especially when they have the expendable time and resources to start leash training and such from puppyhood and just, don't. Especially wild to me when they have mobility issues prior to getting powerful, pulling, large breeds.
I dont blame the lady for owning a giant dog it takes alot of responsibility and he seems like a very chill dog its just adjusting his behaviour and tweaking a few things to make his quality of life easier on both the owner and him. but he seems so happy and he seems to adore his owner im glad Victoria helped this person. Most people would have taken him to a shelter because it becomes unbearable or too much burden im glad this wasnt the case
How he walks off with that shoe as an unexpected war trophy is hilarious! 😂😂😂 I agree with Christine: I couldn’t give him up for the world either! ❤️🐶❤️
I used to have two saints. Both of them loved to nap outside in the sun in the middle of the summer in Phoenix Arizona (110 degrees plus). I was always amazed. They had a doggie door so it was completely their decision.
Man. The difference of training that victoria does and cesar does. It's amazing how she can train dogs without hitting, kicking or physically hurting them any way, which cesar does. Prove me wrong though. But Victoria's ways of training are way better than cesar's 'training' ways.
I haven't seen Ceasar, but if he is behaving abusively he should be reported. Also, if he is violent with dogs, it makes me wonder what he is like with people. It sounds like he has a serious, unhealthy issue with power and dominance.
@@daniellamcgee4251 Hes a quite famous 'Dog trainer'. But I really don't think he's training them in a good way AT ALL. He thinks its completely right and would get some better ways to train dogs by reading a book.
Caesar's 'Alpha' method has been disproven by behaviorists for a long time. Pack dynamics are much more nuanced. Victoria's techniques of using loud noises to redirect and positive reinforcement are gentler, more natural, and more effective than 'establishing dominance' like C does.
Cesar uses negative reinforcement and "alpha" dog theory (which has been scientifically disproven). Victoria, to my knowledge, uses positive reinforcement only
there's nothing wrong with this giant pup... he's just a massive concentrate of love and excitement, as every healthy and happy 2yo dog should be. the only thing missing here is some basic education, a few boundaries and some consistency in applying both. with Victoria's advice, the adorable Max will become a model citizen in no time ❤ edit: can we take a moment to appreciate the sheer amount of tongue of that dog? that alone weighs more than my neighbor's Yorkie... 😅😍 ... there may be a little prolapse involved thou, so I'd check with his vet, just to be sure
Max is such an gentle giant....I have a golden retriever ....I can imagine how hard to train big dogs...but Max is a quick learner.. Both moms are very kind and happy to learn Great job Victoria
They never gave him boundaries or training when he was a puppy. That's why he walks all over them, and he's an entire male which can make them more strong headed. I'd never let anyone walk my dog if they didn't listen to my instructions either. Who in their right mind leaves a lead on a dog while it goes swimming and stands there saying "you're a naughty boy "...unbelievable! 🙄
I love Victoria. She has such a passion for teaching people and helping them connect with their animals. I've been watching her and following her career since the early 2000s.
I love how this was handled by the show host, honestly. She was clear and firm about what the ladies needed to change and improve, and didn't make them feel too bad. That drastically increases the chances of the training sticking. For the humans, most importantly! But I love that the trainer let her come to her own realization that she hadn't taught Max the right things when he was small. So wholesome! (Just realized I only remembered the name of the dog, lol. You can tell who I was paying the most attention to!)
This is one of my favorite episodes I’ve seen. These women raised a very sweet big boy with just a few issues and they took right to Victorias lessons. Love it all ❤
We have a 10 month old Great Pyrenees/Lab and I strongly relate to this but my dad and brothers are all over 6ft tall and we all are training him and he's definitely learning from our other dogs', Bear Gentle Giant he is already bigger than all 3 of our big dogs (pitbull; Blue Heeler/Lab; German Shepherd) but we have a giant fenced in back yard and I'm home all day every day (aside dr appointments or grocery shopping) It's learning on a curve for sure
I relate to this too! I have a 9 month old Great Pyrenees/ Saint Bernard mix and she's already over 100lbs. Luckily for me she's usually pretty mellow but when she gets excited it's like a bull in a China shop. But she really is the best, I absolutely love big fluffy dogs!
My heart m e l t e d seeing Mr Maxi's own private swimming pool... Growing up, there was a much *beloved* St. Bernard named, "Butterball," in our family...Living on a large lush vegetable farm...All we kids wanted to do, was play with Butterball because he was so friendly, playful & so much fun...He really loved all us cousins...Some of my favorite childhood memories are times we all went running & trying to keep up with him, & teaching him tricks...God bless Max & his two sweet Moms... 💥 ❤ 💥
That dog is gorgeous and super fluffy, I understand she wants to cuddle him all the time! 😍 They make a lovely couple! So happy to see they're doing better!
St. Bernards are giant, but they aren't fighting/guard dogs. They were bred to be super social and helpful, so they act like labradors. They just want to be cuddled and played with. I'm glad Victoria encouraged the mini-pool. Most larger dogs love it!
Victoria was my idol growing up. As a little girl, I loved seeing an adult woman being assertive and smart, while at the same time drastically improving the quality of life for dogs and their owners.
I grew up watching this show while having breakfast before school. I love how effective her training tactics are. When I get a dog, I'm going to use what victoria recommends
It always makes me so happy when owners realize that they're the problem and not the dog, because it never is. It's all learned behaviours. Max is super loved and I'm so happy for him and his owner.
I have a st Bernard and a neo mastiff, so I have over 300 lbs of dog. I've had my neo since a puppy and got my St Bernard at 6 months old and the difference in their manners is astronomical. My St Bernard is getting better but is so important to train them young.
That mother is a MOTHER !!!!!!!! All that pain he caused and hes still loved. Max is awesome though hes just doesn’t know his weight. ☺️hes really big imagine😍😍😍
I have a 70 kilo dog and he was my first big dog. My vet tech is a big dog mom and she told me early on that he needed to know I'm the boss. Fast forward and Bernie is my mobility assistance and medical alert service dog. He also does volunteer work with domestic violence victims. He's a frequent flyer and prefers flying over cars. His favorite seat is 1A but he's content with a row as well. He's absolutely the best dog ever and I'm so blessed to have him. He's the epitome of gentle giant . He thinks he's a lap dog but he has excellent manners. He loves being mom to baby kittens!❤❤❤ The first year he was a handful 😂 he thought I was a kite and he was in control of the string. Thankfully, I never got hurt but i took quite a few flying lessons😂😂😂
His markings are so beautiful! 👑 LOVE the pool they have for him now. Hopefully they can find a life jacket to fit him properly and take him down to the water/pool so he can actually swim because it would burn off a lot of energy and it great exercise 💪🏼
Something that makes me watch this show is the amount of love on Victoria's face when she sees a dog--its amazing, and you just know they're in good, or at least loving, hands.
I don't agree with never letting him paddle around in the shallow pool. I think Victoria should've taught them a good recall and then still allow him in. I understand being worried about deeper water with an edge he can't get out of himself, but a shallow pond with a low edge or a lake with a beach or something should be fine. He clearly loves the pond and a little kiddie pool isn't going to replace that. It might cool him down, but it's not as exciting. Just work on recall, so you can decide when playtime is over.
My BFF growing up, her older brothers had St.Bernards. They had 23 puppies. Only one female, you could pick her out.because of her color markings. The puppies were really sweet and loving. Max reminds me of their Father!!
I just started watching Beckman’s dog training on UA-cam and found these videos too. 😄😊I actually remember when this show was on tv.😄I like Beckman’s dog training videos as he’s good at training and fixing dogs and he’s nice about it while also being assertive. It’s fun to watch his videos because he goes into dog behavior and what it means and how you can make sure to fix it. 😊😄I like her style too because she’s mostly very calm and kind in her approach. 😄
Speaking of big dogs not knowing their own strength our Rotti broke the back door yesterday he just lent against it and "pop". Just one more thing that needs fixing.
The pool is not deep enough. Because of Max's size, the weightlessness of being submerged in water is probably part of the draw for him. The little pool only gets his paws wet.

If Max wants in a pond at 168lbs he’s getting in a pond . I’d let go too. It would take the two of the women plus Victoria to keep him out.
Na but when she said "I'll give lip service to that" that threw me the f*** off I don't know if that's something the British say or if she actually said something dirty LMAO
@@Psychedelic-City
I think it just means "I would have something to say about that" or something along those lines...
@@sophiefilo16 makes sense 🙅
@@Psychedelic-City pretty sure lip service means simply that you'll say you'll do something, but not actually do it.
I’m so glad she didn’t blame max for pawing and realizes that it wasn’t his fault
“You’re not listening Max”
Max: “I know” continues wading in water
😹
Max isn’t a bad boy at all, he’s just a big puppy who needed to be taught boundaries
They probably get them for protection (even cuddly big dogs are naturally intimidating), and extra cuddles.
He really is just a big bundle of love. He just needed training and guidance.
How he walks off with that shoe as an unexpected war trophy is hilarious! 😂😂😂
I agree with Christine: I couldn’t give him up for the world either! ❤️🐶❤️
I'm very very happy to have someone who is .. You know, NOT Casear doing a dog training show. Thank you Victoria, we need you.
I really like this lady, she is very kind and patient with the dogs :D
May i know why you seem to dislike cesar??
Caesar is cool though
What’s wrong with Cesar??
Cesar's dogs have killed other dogs. He's just a TV star and nothing else
Cesar uses negative reinforcement and "alpha" dog theory (which has been scientifically disproven). Victoria, to my knowledge, uses positive reinforcement only
there's nothing wrong with this giant pup...
he's just a massive concentrate of love and excitement, as every healthy and happy 2yo dog should be.
the only thing missing here is some basic education, a few boundaries and some consistency in applying both.
with Victoria's advice, the adorable Max will become a model citizen in no time
❤
edit: can we take a moment to appreciate the sheer amount of tongue of that dog?
that alone weighs more than my neighbor's Yorkie... 😅😍
... there may be a little prolapse involved thou, so I'd check with his vet, just to be sure
god the shot at 4:27 with victoria rubbing the dogs arm as he lays down…it’s so cute how much she loves dogs.
I have 2 saints, and they don’t realize they aren’t puppy size anymore, lol…. But I’m good with it🐶❤️🐶
No you are not. You know it.
@@carriespider8438 u really showed them
@@shplorf1977 lol!
But are your guests good with it?
Ehhhhhh
That lady loves her dog and it's so wholesome
Max is such an gentle giant....I have a golden retriever ....I can imagine how hard to train big dogs...but Max is a quick learner..
Both moms are very kind and happy to learn
Great job Victoria
That tongue 🥰 I love how it’s always hanging out. He is so adorable!
Finally someone who doesn’t challenge Victoria, I love how they are so sweet and polite!
Such pure innocence here. Giant doggo thinks he’s tiny doggo
That dog is enormous! I see why they’re letting it get its way.
Same
His size doesn't matter, any dog regardless of size will over run anyone who can't give the authority they need.
@@m6666 she didn’t let him he pulled towards the pond and she let go. He is 168lbs if wants in he gets in whether she holds on or not.
@@SF-ob8tj I guess the choice was to take him on walks away from the pond.
This poor rhino thinks he's a chihuahua 🤣 what a sweet boy, and it obvious his owner loves him very much
I love Victoria.
He's a really good boy. He just doesn't know his strength. Lovely dog!
This is one of my favorite episodes I’ve seen. These women raised a very sweet big boy with just a few issues and they took right to Victorias lessons. Love it all ❤
We have a 10 month old Great Pyrenees/Lab and I strongly relate to this but my dad and brothers are all over 6ft tall and we all are training him and he's definitely learning from our other dogs', Bear Gentle Giant he is already bigger than all 3 of our big dogs (pitbull; Blue Heeler/Lab; German Shepherd) but we have a giant fenced in back yard and I'm home all day every day (aside dr appointments or grocery shopping)
It's learning on a curve for sure
Just watched the pawing portion; I thought he just bitch slapped us for play, oops 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shepherd not shepard
I relate to this too! I have a 9 month old Great Pyrenees/ Saint Bernard mix and she's already over 100lbs. Luckily for me she's usually pretty mellow but when she gets excited it's like a bull in a China shop. But she really is the best, I absolutely love big fluffy dogs!
What a phenomenal house! Great episode - Max is a stunner 😍
I call beautiful animals stunners too! 💚👏💚👏💚👏
these women are some of the most wholesome and adorable people I've come across, I hope they and their pup are doing well!
Aw a Saint Bernard they are big cuddlers 🥰
Dawn was a bit confused, but she got the spirit.
Max did well too.
My Irish Wolfhound is only 140lbs, but I have a lot of the same problems. I really needed this video!
I've had 3 well-behaved dog (mostly) and have walked others and I learned a lot from Victoria, too!
what a sweet story :)
God bless you and us all as well ❤ please can I ask you a question??
His face when Victoria said No Pond 😂😂
You sound so funny 😂 please can I ask you a question??

what a sweet dog & how refreshing to see an owner on this show actually say it's not the dog's fault
A lovely dog and a lovely owner open to help! Hopefully the training techniques made life a bit easier for them.
I imagine a too friendly dog is a refreshing change from the aggressive ones.
Reminds me of my belgian malinois Bella, she’s convinced that she’s a lap doggy.
Max is such a good boy❤️
isn't she a girl
@@akrrasiiaa think OP was referring to Max with that good boy comment.
Every single _'creature'_ in this video is so so so sweet. ❤️
Aw bless her. It would be very difficult to always be injured by your dog.
Great job as always Victoria
Aww man....I really loved Max🥺❤
And when the lady said "He is naughty and he loves water"....it described me perfectly too😅😂
That dog is gorgeous and super fluffy, I understand she wants to cuddle him all the time! 😍 They make a lovely couple! So happy to see they're doing better!
What a giant teddy bear with a lovely owner! 🐕🥺🥰
“left”
“no, no that’s right dawn”
HAHAHAHS HELP
Max is a very large sized puppy! Even behaving like a typical pup. But so happy that Victoria got to help!
Omg he is just a huge puppy ... I love him already!
I love how he has his tongue constantly flopping to the side... OMG SO CUTE
This lady doesn’t age! This is what, season 45 of this show?! 😁
Ikr love her 💗 was she a model or a ballerina?
That's what happens when you spend your life taking care of your body.
That is one GIANT dog!!! What a sweetheart.
Ponds are dangerous when you don't know what's in them. I would agree to a pet friendly pool, but can be very dangerous.
Or they could find a pool that allows dogs to use it.
Bless his heart! ❤ He is so precious and perfect, I would enjoy every second of his ownership!
I laughed so hard when I saw the gift (pool) she bought for Max. I didn't expect that, but what a great idea!
i love that dog and i love how gentle Victoria cares about dogs
That leash is amazing, I have never seen on like that - reign style.
I'll be investing in one for my cane corso.
I want to live in between that woman and Max, and her friend. They seem like wonderful people who would be great neighbors. And Max is a gem 💎!
What an adorable boy!! 🥰🥰 reminds me of my gentle giant (Great Pyrenees) Benny! So innocent and unaware of his size! 🥰
Max has a heart shaped spot on his coat, how cute😀
What a humongous ball of loveliness Max is, that tongue 👅 lol 🤣
Speaking of big dogs not knowing their own strength our Rotti broke the back door yesterday he just lent against it and "pop". Just one more thing that needs fixing.
The pool is not deep enough. Because of Max's size, the weightlessness of being submerged in water is probably part of the draw for him. The little pool only gets his paws wet.
Max is a lover, not a fighter! They're very sweet, but very powerful
What a sweetheart of a dog! Big puppy!
The pool is a great idea but I was also expecting her to take Max to a canine swimming facility
I love this owner. One of the best I’ve seen on Victoria’s shows
