Ours is Millie. Miss Millie. Sweet, stubborn, devoted Millie. She is 7 now, a bit of Border Collie mix so she tops out at 60 lbs, but all the St. B coloring and freckles etc. It was love at first sight.
I have an eleven week old Saint Bernard names Presley. He’s doing great. He knows how to come, sit and give paw. Almost completely potty trained. Thanks for the video
i know im randomly asking but does anyone know a method to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost the password. I appreciate any help you can offer me
My pup is calm and stays out of trouble for the most part. She caught on to indoor training after a week. Very interesting breed. Mine is a mix so hopefully that helps with health issues.
My Saint is named Brandy. She is very sweet, but stubborn. You will get a great greeting every time you enter the house. Their fur tends to mat under the ears and on their back legs. They don't like being alone so hope your dog gets along with the cat. And it's always good to socialize them.
A little late to the party, but we just got an 8-week-old St. Bernard. We named her Nola after New Orleans, because we loved living there, although we're back home in Colorado now. I've always had huskies in the past so this is a new breed for me. Thanks so much for the informational video! It's great to have some advice going forward.
Great video! Funny, my name is also Morgan and growing up i had a St. Bernard named Maisy as well. Maisy was my best friend 😀Great dogs. It’s been 9 years since my last St. B and I am looking for another one hopefully soon 😊
When my Saint Bernard puppy has something in his mouth that he shouldn't have, he knows it . He will stare at you and if you try walk about to him to take out that item, he will run away which is annoying but funny and he will not drop it so I have to try to get it out and he just keeps his mouth closed 😂😂 and it hurts when you try to remove your fingers because his mouth is still shut
Hey Morgan and Maisie! Thank you so much for sharing! I'm about to get a st. bernard pup myself and was curious what food you're feeding her! I have read a million different dog food blogs and they all recommend something different for a large dog breed puppy! I would appreciate any advice/ recommendations! Thanks!
Hi Suzanne! When we brought Maisie home we were fed her Diamond Naturals Giant Puppy because that's what the farmer we adopted her from fed her. We switched to Science Diet because that's the brand our cats do really well on, that made her itchy so the vet recommended we try royal canin and that is working really well for her. We also sometimes scramble up an egg or shred some boiled chicken for her as treats.
I grew up with a St Bernard, Sarah. She lived to be ten years old. And loved walks. 15 years ago, my son gave me a Beautiful St Bernard, we named her Bella. I have owned big dogs all my life and it is so hard when our family member passes on. The hardest thing about it, is that they don’t live long enough. Bella loved water, and her ears were silky soft. Sarah also loved the snow. Sweet memories.
I have a question I kind of seen in the video you moved your head anytime she would try to lick you is that a part of training our you just don't like to be licked
We taught her not to lick faces - I got bit in the face by a dog as a kid (by an otherwise very sweet loving GSD) and have a bit of a phobia of dogs faces close to mine. Having Maisie has actually almost completely cured me of my phobia now, so we probably didn't even have to teach her that haha.
@@sweetymonroe8187 It was, but now that I'm used to Maisie being near my face I can handle other dogs too. She has really helped! And I want to soon! I will try to sit down with her some day this week and see if she will stay still for a bit haha.
Good luck! Yes, the biting is definitely a problem when they're young because they're so much bigger than typical puppies. It took Maisie until she was about 6 months to be "perfect" with biting, but by 4 months she hardly would bite or nibble unless she was very over stimulated. Lots of consistency, and we always carried toys around to stick in her mouth if she was getting mouthy. Or bully sticks if she was being to crazy with it.
Beautiful puppy but I see you don’t really understand pack leader mentality and training obedience classes are better for positive reinforcement where’s at home the psychology part of training is better your not punishing bad behavior it’s a misconception and a lie on the other side of dog training what you actually do is correct bad behavior and reward good behavior like with treats tho I’d argue affection and petting when they’ve done something good. But one thing to understand is using other training methods rather then just positive reinforcement will not make you love them any less. So pretty much when it comes to being home and establishing rules and keeping a dog over all calm and submissive most the time pack leader training witch is pure psychology and in no way hurts the dog or makes them love you less. And positive reinforcement is better for obedience class and tricks that’s just how a dogs mine works and humanizing the dog can result in real bad behaviors down the road. And if you were wondering I do have dogs and I have a St. Bernard puppy named whiskey and with the methods I have used he’s been calm submissive sense day one and has progressed so much calm most of the time! and he’s getting better everyday lol! He just turned 5 months. On a last note cause I know I’ve been rambling is that I know first hand the breed is stubborn but where a lot of people make mistakes is thinking they have to live with it and you don’t aha I said that to myself when I got whiskey. But I’m just glad your at least focusing on having a calm dog I feel like most people don’t really nip that in the butt but anyways just thought I’d give you the best advise I could I am seeking to be a dog trainer and psychologist for dogs with behavioral issues and train in basic obedience class and have had almost a year of experience with a few different dogs and have gotten good results almost always
Thank you! I think she's beautiful, too! Luckily we work with a really wonderful trainer who has helped me fine tune my strategy for working with my sweet gal. I know every dog is different and responds to different training methods, I've felt very fortunate that Maisie has been so receptive to R+ training. Though if she hadn't been I'd have definitely been willing to try other strategies, and with any future dogs I might have to. I feel like Maisie is very unique in what motivates her to behave. Good luck in becoming a dog trainer and psychologist! You're going to be great at it!
@@MorganTimm that’s so good to hear saints are so special to me and I’m lucky to have one any dog owner who has one is as well your Maisie is beautiful hope she turns out to be the best family pet you strive for
